Chef Dan was a fantastic teacher who met us exactly where we were and made everything feel approachable and fun. Starting at the market and then cooking with fresh, seasonal ingredients really brought the experience to life. We learned new techniques, enjoyed an incredible five-course lunch with local wine pairings, and left feeling confident enough to try the recipes again at home! Erica was also wonderful to work with. She made the organization effortless and was incredibly helpful when we had an unexpected change to our group. We’ve already started recommending this immersive culinary experience to friends. Truly a five-star experience from start to finish.
We had a fabulous experience with Dan & Erica. We did a private cooking class while on our Honeymoon in Bordeaux. From first meeting Dan and then Erica we knew we were in for a fabulous time. They are both gracious, personable and quite knowledgeable about cooking, wine and Bordeaux. Being seasoned cooks we still learned some great tricks and techniques. The atmosphere was comfortable, fun and relaxed. We walked to the market, gathered our supplies and jumped in to cooking. Whether you are a seasoned cook or just beginning, Dan will guide you all the way to making a wonderful meal with outstanding wine pairing. Dan and Erica, it was such a pleasure to spend the time with you both and thanks for the great memories!
If you’re ever in Bordeaux, do yourself a favor and book a class with Chef Dan at The Gastronome Bordeaux. We learned the art of making Bordeaux’s signature pastry, the canelé, and Dan guided us through every step with patience, expertise, and unmatched humor. He explained the delicate science of baking and how to achieve that perfect caramelized crust with a custardy center. It felt less like a class and more like being welcomed into a friend’s home, except that friend happens to be a world-class chef. Even though he’s more of a chef than artist, his wall of the Bordeaux area marked with corks from the local wineries was a masterpiece! This was truly an unforgettable experience, and I cannot recommend The Gastronome Bordeaux highly enough. Thank you, Chef Dan, for sharing your knowledge, your warmth, and your champagne with us!
This place is magical! Every part of this experience from the booking process to the eating was exceptional. Daniel and Erica do everything to make you feel as if you’re right in your own kitchen. We did the full experience which includes an initial conversation about what each participant wants to cook/eat, a trip to the market to buy fresh local ingredients and then a highly entertaining and educational tutorial of how to make a multiple course gourmet meal paired with hand selected wines from the region. This was easily the centerpiece experience of our 10 day French vacation. Even if you’re not a foodie or that experienced in the kitchen this is an absolute must do when in Bordeaux.
Truly the highlight of our trip to the Bordeaux region! We went with our two 12 year old boys and our senior mothers and Daniel made it an unforgettable experience. His engagement with our sons made it a fun and exciting experience for them while teaching them culinary skills. The food was so fresh and delicious which was only enhanced by the wine. We cannot say enough great things about The Gastronome Bordeaux!
We had the best time at The Gastronome Bordeaux! The cooking class was incredible. Relaxed pace, flexible menu, lots of exposure to various foods and skills, and a veeeery filling and delicious lunch. Dan is such a fun guy and teaches well while keeping things light and interesting. We really enjoyed the experience and would absolutely do it again.
Fantastic experience - can’t recommend enough. Daniel was fun, friendly, and knowledgeable. We cooked an amazing meal and had some great wine. Great memories!
I had an incredible experience taking a cooking class with Chef Dan in Bordeaux. I ended up being the only participant, which made it essentially a private lesson. Chef Dan was kind, knowledgeable, and made sure I was involved in every step of the process — from shopping for ingredients at Marché des Capucins, to prepping, to cooking all three courses. The kitchen was cozy and well-equipped, and the pace of the class was relaxed but engaging. I learned so much about French cooking in a fun and approachable way. After we finished cooking, we sat down to enjoy the meal, and Chef Dan’s wife, Erica, joined us for lunch. She was so lovely, and it made the whole experience even more enjoyable and personal. If you’re in Bordeaux and love food, I highly recommend this class. It was one of the highlights of my trip!
I’ve waited far too long to leave my review, but I just wanted to come up with a perfect words! Unfortunately, there are none. This was a dream come true! A cooking class in France! From the moment I contacted them from the US until our departure from their class, Erica and Daniel were fantastic. Don’t second-guess yourself… Take the class, go to the market, enjoy Bordeaux!!!
We took two classes at Gastronome Bordeaux with Chef Dan and they were both the highlights of our, and our two separate groups of friends, time in Bordeaux! Chef Dan's knowledge and enthusiasm made for a great day of learning and eating. Besides learning new techniques and ingredients, he also shared a great deal of information about Bordeaux and France in general. Erica also shared her vast knowledge of the various wines in the region. The space they renovated in this beautiful old building works exceptionally well for these classes. Check out Dan's map wall of châteaux and their collection of vintage corkscrews. They are both truly warm and interesting people that you will easily enjoy a great time with besides bringing home the confidence to make these dishes yourself.
Truly exceptional cooking class experience with Daniel. We were greeted with coffee and freshly baked Madeline’s, exchanged experiences and discussed cooking favorites. Enjoyed a stroll to the quaint local market for ingredients and returned to enjoy meal and dessert prep. Exceptional hospitality, great meal and fabulous wine pairings
We did a private class for our small family with three young children, Chef Dan and Erica were wonderful hosts and made our family feel welcome from the first moments! We made the most delicious canele and gateaux basque. My kids (7,7, and 4) were entertained by the class and really participated in the experience. We are 100% canele lovers now and really enjoyed this taste of Bordeaux. Would recommend to any families looking for a fun, food-centered experience in a very cool, old building!
Took a pastry class while visiting Bordeaux for a few days. The tarts and pastries class was a half-day well-spent. I enjoyed learning how to use a pie pan and a tart ring, and learning to make flaky pie pastry as well as pate brise. I thought these were very versatile bases which I could use with a whole variety of toppings/fillings. So I'm really excited to try them out when I get home. Dan and Erica are fantastic hosts and I thoroughly enjoyed our chat over lunch (of the amazing pies and tarts that we/I baked). Dan shared many helpful cooking tips as well. Would love to come back for a different class some day.
Bordeaux is not without a shortage of things to do, places to go, and sights to see. But Chef Dan’s cooking class was one of the highlights of my trip. From the moment you step into this bright lovely space, you feel welcomed and relaxed. There is no pretentiousness here. Just great cooking explained and coached expertly. And always with a dash of humour and wit. On this particular day, I was the only one to sign up for the class. But that mattered none. We began with a walk to the nearby Marché des Capucins where the Bordelaise get their farm-fresh produce, cheese, meats, bread, seafood, and anything else you might want to be of the freshest and highest quality. Along the way, Chef Dan explained the history of the area and pointed out some interesting items in the market. We bounced from stall to stall and procured our provisions from the beaming mongers and were on our way back to the school. We quickly got to work on a very French, Bordeaux-heavy menu. It consisted of an entree (oeuf en cocotte), plat (magret de canard avec pommes “Sarlat style”), cheese course (specialties from Sarlat; just south of Bordeaux), and a dessert (DELICIOUS apple tart). His lovely wife Erica arrived and plotted the wine list for our decadent lunch. She masterfully hit the mark. Along the way there was much sampling of butter, jams, foie gras, bread, and of course, wine. The conversation was excellent as well. Dan and Erica are such lovely hosts. I really believe they go out of their way to make sure you have a great time and feel comfortable. The food is outstanding. The ambiance is beautiful. And the people are lovely. There are many tours you can take where a guide can tell you names, dates, events, etc. And you should do those. But if you want to understand the soul of Bordeaux a little better; what makes it move, what drives its people, then don’t miss The Gastronome. I promise you’ll love it as much as I do
Ducking Delicious From the moment my sister and I arrived, we were warmly welcomed by Chef Dan. His hand-drawn mural of the Bordeaux wine region is absolutely stunning and sets the tone for a thoughtful and immersive experience. The kitchen feels both professional and inviting, and the small class size (just four of us) made it easy to engage, ask questions, and enjoy the process. We signed up to learn how to make crispy-skin duck—and it did not disappoint. Chef Dan's teaching style is clear, relaxed, and hands-on. We prepped and cooked everything from scratch: peeling and chopping potatoes, making a rich red wine jus, and scoring and pan-searing the duck breasts to perfection. One of the standout moments was the duck tasting plate—foie gras, house-cured duck, and shredded duck with dauphinoise potatoes—all paired with a glass of pink Champagne, followed by red wine with the main. A special thanks to Erica, Chef Dan’s wife, for the thoughtful wine pairings. The 2–3 hour class flew by, and we left with full stomachs, new skills, and big smiles. If you're in the area and love food, The Gastronome is a must-do.
My husband and I took a pastry class while we were on vacation. Dan and Erica tailored the class to us (we are also professional bakers) which was incredible. They were super welcoming, knowledgeable, and made the class really fun. I learned a lot and highly recommend taking a class with them while you are in Bordeaux
Wow, what a great experience with Daniel and Erica at The Gastronome Bordeaux. Where to start? Before even getting into the actual day, we had various personal exchanges talking about the general approach and our desires for the theme of the cooking experience, and they were very accommodating about the menu and receptive to ideas. Once our group of four got there, the facility itself was top-notch. So well designed and welcoming within a classic centuries-old building. A very homey feel with modern appointments. Very conducive to a cozy and cordial engagement, and we received a very warm welcome on our arrival. After a discussion of the day’s activities along with some coffee and cake, which also included making variations to the menu plan, Daniel prepared a shopping list and we made our way to the Capucins market. He told us about the history of this area of Bordeaux along the way, and then guided us from stall to stall as we gathered the ingredients for our meal. Once back, we got to cooking. Everyone was assigned to various tasks under Daniels’s guidance, and things were sequenced so that we had things to eat as we worked through the entire menu. And of course there was wine, and we had Erica (the “Wine Whisperer”) to educate us about what we were drinking and other Bordeaux wines. All of the food was excellent (and we all did a great job executing – if I do say so myself). The food and the wines complemented each other beautifully, and we all learned something about the food and about the techniques used to prepare it. But it wasn’t all about “business,” as we had very nice conversations along the way and learned about each other, just like we were guests in their home. They also provided us with excellent insights about other things to see and do while we were in the Bordeaux area. It was hard to leave at the end, but we had made so much that we were able to take away some of the results as memories to be consumed later. Overall, a fantastic experience that we highly recommend to anyone who will be in Bordeaux, but definitely try to do it early in your visit so that you have time to take advantage of their insights into other things to do while in Bordeaux.
What an amazing class! If you’re looking to see how the local go shopping for their fresh produce and learn the essence of French cooking, this is the class for you! Besides learning new dishes, Dan & Erica are also just the most wonderful hosts, I had such an amazing time here, highly recommend!
Absolutely the best experience ever. Chef Daniel and Erica were amazing hosts - we learned how to make Macaroons, Canele’s from scratch. Best 3 hours If you had children - bonus you can take anything you make and the wine and coffee was flowing the entire time for adults. This is a MUST in Bordeaux
This was an outstanding experience. Great mix of learning and eating.
We have done many cooking classes and this was as good as they come. Daniel and Erika were so fun and so kind. It was a day filled with learning, laughing, and delicious food and wine. An unforgettable experience for sure.
Our children booked this cooking class for us a thankyou. How lucky we were. Daniel led the day and Erica joined towards the end of our cook. We started by finalising the menu then au pied to the market. Dan shared a lot of history on the way. The market produce was amazing and we had a chance to engage with various stall owners - with they and Dan explaining the produce and how to choose. Then back for the cook with Dan imparting his skill and giving us great insight. A lot of learning, enjoyment and a lot of fun. And of course Mae was providing great support. A great chat as we enjoyed our lunch with excellent local wine parings. Thank you Chef Daniel and Erica.
Four of us booked a private class with Chef Dan. The whole experience was fantastic. Dan made us feel completely at home - starting with champagne, a charcuterie board with fantastic cheeses and his own cured duck and great conversation. As we are all experienced cooks we loved being introduced to some of the local foods and specialities - while picking up a bunch of new learnings too! We focused, at our request on the classic french sauces (and how versatile and changeable they can be) and duck and fish. This was definitely one of our hightlight moments of our great 4 days in Bordeaux and I highly recommend for anyone!
I’m so pleased I booked a canelé-making class here while I was in Bordeaux. Wonderful class, lovely space and Daniel is just delightful. Highly recommend!
My 11 yo grand-daughter and I wanted to take a pastry class in French (we are at an intermediate level). Dan graciously accommodated us speaking easy to understand French and then also communicating in English to make sure we understood everything. He took my grand-daughter under his wing, and she enthusiastically made our canelés and Gateau Basque. We had a wonderful time. The canelés were also the very best we tasted. We will get copper molds and expect to replicate them using Dan's recipes. This session was a highlight of our time in Bordeaux!
Lovely experience in a beautiful space. Dan and Erica were engaging and informative. We enjoyed good wine with cheese and snacks all the while learning the intricacies of cannelles. Can’t wait to put this new understanding to use back home. Off the beaten path but easy to find and close to the metro. Definitely worth the visit!!
My husband and I experienced one of the highlights of our trips cooking with Daniel. What a pleasure getting to know Daniel and Erica. We enjoyed getting a mini history tour on the way to the market and soaked in all the great tips and tricks that were shared while shopping and cooking. I was really impressed with their attention to detail. We had a really wonderful time and plan on visiting again.
I had a delightful experience at The Gastronome Bordeaux learning the art of le canelé and madeleine. Dan, the chef speaks perfect French and English (and easily switched between the 2 for those of us non-bilingual cooks). The kitchen was gorgeous and fully stocked, enough room for several aspiring chefs to comfortably participate. But the best part was the fun we had while learning. Dan makes you feel so welcome from the moment he invites you into his kitchen, it was like cooking with friends! My only regret was not being able to take his full immersion class…I’ll definitely come back the next time I am in Bordeaux.
This was an absolutely wonderful experience. Chef Daniel provided superb instructions for any dish we threw his way and the food was truly incredible. Without a doubt, this is a must do if you enjoy food. His kitchen/area is gorgeous and very welcoming. Most certainly worth the price - there was so much food! We learned history and how to make very local special dishes. They also gave us plenty of recommendations for our remaining time in France. Thank you so much for teaching us! Santé!
Whether you want to try your hand at cooking local dishes or learning the skills of pastry making, The Gastronome in the old city of Bordeaux is the place to go. The kitchen decor is elegant and practical, but it's Dan's enthusiasm, humor and tips that made it such an enjoyable experience. With Dan's guidance we created a delicious tomato and courgette tart, as well as a yummy leek, onion and bacon quiche and a pear dessert. It was particularly rewarding when we sat down to enjoy the fruits of our labor along with carefully chosen wines. It is well worth a visit!
This food experience is a must do while visiting Bordeaux. Loved touring the local market shopping for our lunch ingredients and getting a little history of the city. The duck lunch experience was amazing! 5 out of 5 stars for sure. Thank you Dan and Erica for the fun day!
We had a fantastic cooking experience with Chef Daniel . It was informative and fun. We started out Discussing our menu, then headed to the market and cooked and had fun all afternoon. Highly recommend this for any skill level. It turned me into a duck lover!
The market tour and bistro lunch has been the highlight of our European adventure. Dan and Erica are the warmest hosts. Hitting the streets and market with Dan is the best way to get a feel for Bordeaux. Not only is he taking you to the best vendors for the freshest ingredients, he’s also giving you a history lesson along the way. He’s passionate about his craft and describes each part of every course and why he chose to include it. Erica is equally as charismatic as she offers thoughtful insight into the region’s wine history and explains why she’s paired particular varietals. As an added bonus, these two are a wealth of knowledge about the area and French culture. The food we made, the wine we drank and the company we kept were 5 star. We highly recommend this tour and if we find ourselves here in the future, we will do it all again.
Chef Daniel Bowers at GASTRONOME in Bordeaux is a culinary treasure whose expertise in tarts and pies is matched only by his warmth and hospitality, shared with his wife Erica. As a Michelin-rated chef, I found his class not only technically enriching but also deeply cultural, offering a glimpse into the soul of French cuisine through his innovative yet traditional methods. The intimate setting, combined with the personal touch of dining with dishes we prepared, made for an unforgettable experience. For anyone passionate about culinary arts, Chef Daniel is a hidden gem worth discovering.
Our family visited The Gastronome Bordeaux (steps from the Capucins market!) this summer. Dan led us on a eye-opening food tour of the city, introducing us to some wonderful bakeries and markets while interspersing informative bits of history about the city and its landmarks. He then guided us back to the beautiful property which he and Erica have restored as a food and wine teaching facility. We were treated to an educational lunch featuring meats, cheeses, breads, and canelés (a Bordeaux specialty) picked up on our tour. These were paired with different selections of wine. It was an incredible experience for the whole family. Dan and Eric were the perfect teachers, and the clean and bright and tastefully decorated (and air conditioned!) Gastronome Bordeaux was the ideal location. We will not hesitate to visit again!
Our family and adult children really enjoyed a private cooking class with Dan. It was a great family bonding time and the food was fabulous! The beautifully renovated kitchen space was comfortable, professional and a delight to visit. Dan was a knowledgeable and entertaining guide to classic French cooking!
Chef Dan and Erica were fantastic. The experience my wife and I had was wonderful. Chef Dan is knowledgeable kind and helpful. Erica is also lovely and very experienced wine expert. We loved our visit and would highly recommend.
We were lucky to be some of Chef Daniel's first official "small cakes class" students. We learned all about of how to make (my favorite) madeleines, and also the local specialty you see everywhere in Bordeaux, the cannelle. Chef Daniel was both very knowledgeable and amusing while he shared some small tricks of the trade. The little school is absolutely stunning tribute in a 17th century building inside a UNESCO historic neighborhood. Only regret is not having time in the this trip to take more classes Highly recommend!!!
My husband and I did the Canale baking class, and it was a blast. Chef Dan is knowledgeable and super fun to work with in the kitchen. The space where they have the class is in a great neighborhood and very well appointed with plenty of room to work. Highly recommended!
Wow!! If you want a unique and professional foodie experience in Bordeaux, do not hesitate!! You can take a pasty class, take a food tour or even go for a farmer's market tour and prepare a local dish in their beautiful space. HIGHLY recommend.
I have had the pleasure and privilege of attending one of the early sessions at le Gastronome under Daniel Bower’s expert guidance. He’s not only a great chef, he also understands very well how different people come at cooking and gastronomy with different baggage and ideas, and he helps them pick up great knowledge and skills. His wife Erica and he have transformed the vault rue de la Fusterie in a delightful space dedicated to cooking and living well. Full five stars.
Very fun day learning about local ingredients and food from the area. Dan is an entertaining teacher and Erica is very knowledgeable about wine. I highly recommend attending this cooking experience.
The Gastronome is a gem and Erica and Dan the most gracious hosts. They’ve created a beautiful, inviting space and really know what they’re doing, Dan is a fabulous, baker/chef/teacher—and raconteur! His knowledge of pastry techniques and how to apply them to actual dishes, expertly but without fuss, was superb—all the while, talking easily, imparting so much information, and facilitating our participation in the preparation. We made “upside down” zucchini and tomato tartlets, leek quiche, and a pear and almond crème dessert—all yummy! And with the extra dough, he had us make super-quick cinnamon sticks! I can’t wait to try out what I learned! He should have his own tv show!
We had a great time with family and friends thanks to Daniel and Erica! Highly recommended
Amazing experience!!! Dan and Erica were incredible hosts, the wine/food was delicious and we had SO much fun! Highly highly recommend!!!
We had a wonderful experience with Daniel. I would 100 procent recommend this to anyone visiting Bordeaux!
Very fun cooking experience! Chef is super funny and nice, would definitely come back.
Both owners are very personable and easy to talk with. Loved that we were able to make 2 pastries and try them as well. Champagne flowed easily and so did the conversation. English is both owners first language so it was easy to understand everything. It really was a joy to participate and when I come back to Bordeaux I will do the shopping and cooking class he offers.
My sister and I had an absolutely wonderful time in our private cooking class with Chef Dan. He made things fun and interesting and everything we cooked was delicious. The class was tailored to what we were interested in: we made duck, Canele, Gateau Basque, asparagus, and a delicious salad. We loved how the menu was shaped and changed by what was available when we visited the market with the sauce for our duck changing from a carrot puree to a pea puree when we came across the first spring peas of the season. We both highly recommend taking a class with Dan and Erica. We would absolutely take another one if we find ourselves back in Bordeaux!
Had a wonderful private lesson with Dan. Chose to learn how to make Rum Babas, Brioche, Tuiles and tempering chocolate. All delicious and very straight forward. I feel confident to do these by myself now. Dan was charming and very clear. Sat and ate some of my brioche with his home made browned butter. Unbelievably delicious. I am going to be making that now too.
This cooking class was the absolute highlight of our weekend in Bordeaux. Dan is an amazing instructor—he strikes the perfect balance between teaching, keeping things fun, and giving you the confidence to try things yourself. One of the standout parts of the experience is visiting the market beforehand to buy everything fresh. It really adds something special and authentic to the whole class. Dan and Erica created such a warm, welcoming atmosphere, and our group got along so well that we ended up staying almost two hours longer than planned—just chatting, enjoying the delicious lunch we had made together, and savouring the excellent wine pairings they had prepared. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting Bordeaux—it’s not to be missed.
I absolutely loved this class with Daniel. He took the time to work out what we wanted to achieve and pitched it perfectly to our needs. From the welcoming coffee and madeleine, a super informative market trip, to whipping up a delectable five course lunch with some lovely accompanying wines, it was perfect all the way. I came away with much improved cooking skills and wanting more.
On our recent trip to Bordeaux, we visited many beautiful chateaus and learned about the wines of the Left and Right bank. Midway through our 13-day stay, we took a cooking class with Chef Dan. What a treat! We met Chef Dan at his cooking school near Basilique Saint-Michel, discussed the lunch menu and then headed out to the nearby Capucin open market for some fresh bread, mushrooms, crème fraiche, figs, and cheese. On the way to the market, Chef Dan shared a little history of old Bordeaux. On the menu: fresh bread, creamy mushroom soup, pan-roasted duck with bordelaise sauce, roasted potatoes with duck fat, an almond torte cake with figs and chantilly cream, and a cheese plate, oh my! And of course, wine! Chef Dan was an excellent instructor. We felt right at home in the centuries old building that now housed his very modern kitchen, equipped with the ovens, pots, pans, burners, and gadgets to pull together our delicious meal. We left satiated and happy as we headed toward the old Pont de Pierre bridge to walk off some of the calories. If you plan to visit Bordeaux, you must spend a half day with Chef Dan!
Great experience!! Late to post, but I am looking to travel back and cant believe I forgot to trap this one in the reviews. My daughter and I took a bakery and market tour with Chef Dan during our Bordeaux visit last fall. What a blast! Chef Dan was very informative, funny and told us many stories about the history of the city. Dan's experience, historical and cultural knowledge alongside the humor, made the experience that much more enjoyable. I am a bakery and patisserie kinda girl, so I very much enjoyed stopping in and tasting along the way--especially with my persinal translator (Chef Dan). He and his wife Erica not only have command of their city, the languages (French and English), cooking, wine, pastries, but they provided recommendations for us AND....were patient enough to allow us to stop at our hotel to address a wardrobe emergency 😅 We ended the tour in the Jardin Public where we enjoyed a delicious picnic of market goodies and breads we picked up along the way. I recommend to my friends to do a either a food tour with Chef Dan, or, like I'm planning next...take a baking class at the Gastronome’s new location when we visit Bordeaux in 2025! The madeleines look dangerously good!!
In Bordeaux for 2 months so took two groups of friends to Gastronome. Hiighlight of their visits to Bordeaux! Superb food, excellent instruction and a great time. Dan possesses enormous energy and culinary knowledge which carries the group through shopping, preparation, cooking and enjoyment of the food. Truly wonderful experience!
I had such an incredible time learning how to cook with Dan and Erica! What a grand feat it is to keep the attention of a group for a whole day of learning, but Dan managed it with wit, charm, funny anecdotes and excellent information from start to finish! Erica providing her own vast knowledge of wines and the region - intelligent on the subject and friendly. The group was also wonderful to hang out with, it attracted good people from all over the world who love the finer things in life - ie. food and wine! - and I felt like it was an excellent family style day of learning and cooking. When travelling alone, these moments are precious. Would highly recommend the classes that these two create, and cannot wait to come back again!
My mom and I took a cooking class with The Gastronome Bordeaux, and it was an absolute pleasure from start to finish. Chef Dan is incredibly skilled, patient, and made the entire class both engaging and fun. The small group size made it feel intimate and collaborative. We had wonderful classmates, and the hands-on learning was a highlight. One of the things I appreciated most was how Chef Dan allowed us to customize the menu based on what we were excited to cook and learn. The visit to the market felt like a true adventure as we explored local vendors and selected ingredients together. Our final menu had an amazing variety - from duck to fish to a beautiful fruit tart. The meal we prepared ended up being one of the best we had in all of France! Erica’s wine pairings were absolutely perfect and elevated the whole experience. I left with new skills, inspiration, and so much joy. This is a special space crafted with care and passion. It is truly a unique cooking class that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Bordeaux.
My husband and I had an amazing experience with Dan and Erica. We are well traveled, having signed up for all sorts of local “cultural windows” around the world and trust me, this one is unique! When you meet Dan and Erica, you feel like you’ve known each other for years, within minutes. Their hospitality, sense of humor, and local cultural knowledge are incredible. Wait till you see this historical space they’ve created to share with you. Warm, inviting, and right in the historic center, when you walk inside you forget the rest of the world, wrapped in the scents of French cuisine, fantastic wine and warmth of friendship. We highly recommend this place if you are looking for a special way to spend time in Bordeaux!
We absolutely loved both of our experiences with The Gastronome. Super talented, fun, and relaxed, Chef Dan was a joy to watch in the kitchen. We did both the Duck and Dune Blanche workshops and had a fantastic time learning. We were encouraged to participate as much as we were comfortable with and what we produced was incredibly delicious. The facilities are gorgeous both inside and in the "Romeo & Juliet" style courtyard. A perfect way to experience the great cuisine and friendly environment of Bordeaux. Highly recommended.
Daniel and Erica have created something beautiful and full of life. Taking this class was the highlight of my trip and I would 100% recommend for everyone visiting Bordeaux. I learned so much about both the city and the culinary arts and it was just incredible.
Our experience with Chef Daniel was amazing! He was so kind and welcoming. We were able to pick our recipes for the day with a nice discussion before heading out to purchase ingredients. The market tour was really insightful and wonderful. Once we were back, we got right to cooking. The class was great for all experience levels. 10/10 would recommend!
We had such a blast with Chef Daniel and Erica. They were educational, informative, and fun! Daniel took us to the markets where we created the menu based on our preferences and what was in season. Daniel gave us history of the neighborhoods and of the Bordeaux region. He did a strawberry tasting so we can try the different varieties. We learned some cooking techniques and ate very well paired with yummy wines from the region. Erica gave us tips on where to go for the rest of the day since we had limited time in the city. They were super friendly and we had a wonderful time. We highly recommend this experience.
A highlight of our trip to Bordeaux was a cooking class with Daniel. What a highlight it was! The trip through the local market was amazing and inspiring. Daniel also gave us some nice history of the area. When we arrived at the "kitchen' we felt very comfortable and we knew we were in for a great experience. Daniel and Erica did not disappoint. The cooking technique, the talk of the food culture and the food itself all exceed expectations. It was a great day, with everlasting memories and new friends. Would like to go back for seconds!
Had a wonderful cooking class at The Gastronome Bordeaux. I like to book a cooking class or two when I travel internationally and found this class on-line. Though they had been open for only a few months it sounded perfect for us. Chef Dan is flexible and asks for preferences and tailors the class to your likes and dislikes. We choose fish as the main course and he came up with a great sauce to go with it. I am all about the sauces. He even surprised us with duck two ways since we did not have time to do the duck only course. We enjoyed the market trip and seeing what was available given what we wanted to learn to cook. He gave us great instructions and even our novice cooks had fun. We drank lovely wines with each course as we discussed other ways we good modify or prepare the dishes. Learned to toast the french way and laughed and enjoyed our time with Chef Dan and his wife Erica who definitely knows her wines. While he is serious about cooking good food, he does not take himself too serious and makes the course fun and the dishes easy enough you can do them at home. Highly recommend this class. You won’t be disappointed. Merci Chef Dan.
This was our first cooking class and definitely won't be our last. But I'm sure all the rest will be compared to our time with Dan and Erica. We felt like we were stepping into a friend's house when we arrived. They make you feel so welcome. It was a fun experience to visit the local market and then come back to cook what we were able to find there. We learned a lot about the local foods and all the dishes prepared were delicious! We even got to try a special treat Dan had whipped up ahead of time. Fabulous!!
I attended a wine tasting/cooking class with a wedding party i was with and we had the greatest time at The Gastronome! Chef Dan and his wife were wonderful hosts, teaching us to cook delicious meals as a team and drinking amazing wines. I would highly recommend this to any small or larger groups looking for a unique experience while in Bordeaux!
Dan and Erica were so gracious and accommodating, treating us like friends for dinner. Dan was fun and informative. We decided on the fly what were to make during our market visit and Dan was adaptable to our choice. I don’t think there is much Dan can not pull out of his arsenal of recipes to cook. We learned some new techniques. It was such a fun and very memorable experience.
The cooking class at the Gastronome with Daniel was the highlight of our trip to Bordeaux—an experience I would even place above visiting the vineyards of Saint-Émilion and Médoc. His passion for French cuisine, joie de vivre, and deep knowledge of the region made the day unforgettable. I was especially inspired by a fellow American who so clearly loves France, masters the art of cooking, and shares it all in a relaxed, joyful way. Daniel shows that the best food is born from love. From choosing fresh produce at the local market to curating cheeses to finish a meal, every moment left a lasting impression. He reminded us that with simple ingredients and a generous spirit, anyone can create something extraordinary—just as the line from Ratatouille says, “Anyone can cook.” I returned home with a renewed desire to cook for those I love, carrying a little piece of Bordeaux into my own kitchen.
Learning how to make the perfect canele was priceless. Chef Dan makes it look easy and we left armed with great tips on making these perfect gems at home. Also got to make Madeleines -yum! Chef Dan makes the class fun and you eat and drink your way through this great experience.
As soon as we entered the building, Chef Dan made us feel right at home, like we were stepping into his house. Chef Dan introduced us to some cooking vocab and regional specialities. It was a hands-on experience, with some food and wine tastings in between as we waited for the main course to be ready. We did the duck class and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed duck smoked, salted and then as a filet, the fat also being used to make gorgeous roast potatoes. Great company, great conversation and of course, great food! A really fab way to spend your morning and then enjoy your efforts for lunch. Put this on your Bordeaux To-Do list. I will be back for another class soon.
We will never forget our trip to Bordeaux and a big part of it was due to the magnificent experience in Chef Daniel's Kitchen! From start to finish, we were treated to and enjoyed the history, art and the magistry of French Cooking at the highest levels. Cooking is not a chore and when done right, an experience. What better way to learn it, than with someone as exciting and knowledgeable as Chef Daniel. You will NOT find a better cooking class in all of Bordeaux!
What a lovely experience! Dan and Erica’s warm welcome and enthusiasm was much appreciated. Located in an animated area of the historic center of Bordeaux, the beautifully renovated venue is perfect. It’s clean, efficient, and well-equipped as well as esthetically pleasing. Cooking is one of my passions and I really like Chef Dan’s approach to cooking: the attention to details, appreciation of local products. Erica’s wine pairings were perfect! It was also interesting hearing about the history of their street and the old port area of Bordeaux. This was an overall joyful learning experience. Highly recommended!
Our cooking class was a highlight of our trip to Bordeaux. Daniel is knowledgeable, talented, fun and he made the class very enjoyable. Erica’s knowledge of wine is extensive, and her participation really added to the experience. We highly recommend taking a class!!
This cooking class/experience was a highlight of our trip to France. Chef Dan makes you feel right at home in his kitchen. A highlight is going to the local food market and seeing all the fresh food vendors. Dan and Erica are very hospitable and I would highly recommend this.
I took a Canele class here with Daniel While we were on holiday in Bordeaux. This class was honestly one of the highlights of my trip. Daniel was an excellent instructor and gracious host And the class was very approachable and easy to understand. After great conversation, a lot of laughs, and some top-notch baking besides, we got to stuff our faces with delicious canele and madeleines. I would highly recommend anyone looking for an English-speaking cooking class while in Bordeaux. You’re in for a treat!
What a wonderful day at The Gastronome Bordeaux! The place is beautiful and the kitchen is modern and very well equipped. We had a great trip to the market - bread, asparagus, herbs, cheese, ham, lettuce and more. We then proceeded to make a lovely and delicious lunch, accompanied by beautiful wines. The best part of the day was the time spent with Dan and Erica, genuinely nice people, who are also super knowledgeable ! 100% recommend a day at The Gastronome!
A fantastic experience, we are now a “fan of Dan”. My sister and I attended a class in June with Dan. Loved the market trip ahead of our cooking experience. Cooking experience was informative and adjustments made for our various levels of chef skills. I feel well equiped to try out the dishes back home. Lots of fun and Erica and Dan are great hosts. Highly recommend the experience.
We had the most wonderful time at this private pastry class with Erica and Daniel. From the moment we arrived, they made our entire family feel welcomed, relaxed, and completely at home. The class was not only incredibly well organized and informative, but also genuinely fun — full of laughter, generosity, and delicious food. Erica and Daniel were outstanding hosts and teachers. Their warmth and enthusiasm set the tone, and their language skills made it possible for our bilingual family to fully enjoy the experience in both English and French, which meant a great deal to us. Everyone felt included and engaged. We learned a lot, ate extremely well, and left both very full and very happy. It was exactly the kind of experience you hope for when traveling with family: personal, joyful, and memorable. I cannot recommend this company highly enough and very much hope to return for another class in the future.
Chef Daniel was fabulous! He asked us what we were interested in learning, then took us to the nearby market (Marche' des Capucins) to get fresh fruit, veggies, and fish. He then taught us how to make the dishes we had picked out. It was hands on and super fun! We also got to enjoy delicious cheese and wine as we cooked. The food was delicious and the whole experience was wonderful. I would highly recommend!!

Downtown Fullerton: Un Centro Vibrante
Influencia Universitaria y Tendencias Emergentes
