This is a great new addition to Gaucin. It is on the site where El Lateral/La Teral has been for 10 years; in the plaza on the patio overlooking the fountain (Calle los Bancos). Run by a family from Gaucin, the food, wine and - most of all - service is very good. Dad, Alfonso, is clearly a very capable chef especially where barbecued meat is concerned. All the high-quality meat is perfectly cooked to order on a fancy Josper grill and tastes fantastic. I recommend it highly.

La Raiz offers a fantastic dining experience with delicious food. The highlight is the Entrecot de Cordero, which is simply superb. You also get the unique chance to cook your meat to your liking on hot iron plates.

We ate at La Raiz on the terrace overlooking a small square full of activity and great people watching. We had the ham and octopus starters, which were excellent. For mains, we had the Iberia presa (classic) and the steak tenderloin (melted in your mouth). Desserts were a heavenly caramelized crusted rice pudding and a delicious chocolate fondant. The waiter, very knowledgeable, suggested a great local red wine, and the waitress spoke Spanish, Norwegian (mother’s side), English and French (our working language) - impressive. Life doesn’t get better. Bravo and muchísimas gracias.

Lovely food and service overlooking the town fountain. An accidental problem with the payment was also sorted out cheerfully and successfully via WhatsApp once we got home. Great customer service.

We hadn't booked but were fitted in with no fuss. The salmon in mango sauce was delicious as was the sea bream in garlic. The habas baby were also very good. Lovely deserts too - would definitely recommend and hope to return sometime!

Very nice surprise, after doing a 30 min tour waiting for restaurants to open, we entered this small place not very promising from the outside, but beautifully and tastefully decorated, with local art pieces and very cosy atmosphere. The staff was really kind and explained what was not clear for the group and the food was delicious, even the salmon that was not expected in a mountain village menu. Will definitely come back when we’ll do another hike in the area.

Absolutely the BEST and the MOST reasonable priced food we had in the village. Bizarrely this wasn’t one of the recommendations for us, but I walked in today for lunch and 0 regrets. There is a menu in English and one of the staff is fluent. We have dietary restrictions so it’s important that we can communicate. We walked in about 2pm for lunch, bizarrely empty so we’re sceptical but thank god we did. We ordered 4 starters, a salad and a main. We only drink water so can’t comment on the drinks menu. We were served some lovely olives (only one other place did this - which I find bizarre), olive oil and bread. Annoyingly we didn’t take photos. For starters we had 1) chicken and veg croquettes 2) padron peppers 3) beef carpaccio 4) goats cheese salad Main was beef entrecôte served with few veg and chips. The service was fast, and everything was freshly cooked. The goats cheese salad actually had salad with it (not just rocket garnish). Carpaccio was lovely, one of our favourites back home. Only criticism is it had peanuts on it (never experienced that before) so anyone with allergy be aware I wouldn’t have thought to mention it. Pardon peppers were served with home made hand cut fries absolutely gorgeous. The croquettes were nice (chicken better than veg IMO) but wouldn’t order again. The main. OH THE MAIN!!!!! The best steak we had so far. We have ours rare and never in Spain (so far) has it been cooked to perfection nor the quality has been matched. They serve it with a hot plate but we didn’t need it as it was perfect. And best of all I think this was the CHEAPEST meal we had at €68. That includes 2 large bottles of still and sparkling water. Sadly no room for dessert. Please go and eat there they really deserve the custom. Annoyingly it was our last day here (we leave tomorrow morning) but contemplating going back for dinner. Thank for a lovely lunch.

i'm still thinking about my meal at La Raiz and the kindness of their staff. my husband and i got married in Gaucin this past July and had 35 friends and family in town to celebrate. we had plans for a Monday night dinner fall through at the last minute and ran into the owners in town. we explained our situation just hours before they opened and they immediately agreed to host all of us. the meal was incredibly delicious and the service was excellent. and at the end of the meal they gave my husband and i flowers to celebrate our wedding and sweet note. we are so grateful for the generosity and kindness and can't wait to come back.

Eines unserer Favoriten auf unserer Andalusien Reise. Das Essen war durchweg sehr lecker. Entrecote war perfekt, es gibt auch ein heißes Eisen um das Steak warm zu halten oder noch etwas durch zu grillen. La Raiz Salat ist auch sehr zu empfehlen. Bedienung war sehr freundlich und hat uns bei der Auswahl geholfen. Und der Wein aus Ronda war überragend. Eine sehr angenehmer Abend.

Magnífico sitio para comer en una terraza pequeña y tranquila..El carpaccio de ternera buenísimo, las chuletitas de cordero, el gazpacho caliente con migas, espectacular, y los postres un 11, más que un 10, y tomamos 4 distintos..Para volver de nuevo una y otra vez..

Comida muy sabrosa y bien presentada en un ambiente agradable y con un servicio excelente. Nos encantó.

Excellent service from a kind and considerate host. On arrival we were advised that the table we had chosen l was due to be in the sun midday sun and offered an alternative table in the shade. Later when choosing a 500g T bone steak to share we were advised some of the starters (Octopus) were perhaps a little generous if accompanied by a large steak. So we opted for goats cheese salad and pil pil prawns. The local wine suggested to pair with the Steak was a lushous and full bodied red from near by Ronda. We remarked that it was the best steak we had enjoyed in recent memory and that compliment really does not do justice to the excellent preparation and presentation of quality locally sourced ingredients delivered to us by the chef. I really recommend this restaurant for a visit without hesitation!

Absolutely fabulous menu del día (menu of the day) and extremely reasonable price even though we ordered and exceptional bottle of wine. Pyszne jedzenie - jedna z lepszych ośmiornic, którą jadłam. Jedyne co, to zamówiłam wok warzyw (tak było w menu) i dostałam warzywa z makaronem a chciałam dużą porcję warzyw :(

Excellent restaurant on a nice square in town just opposite Paco&Pepe. English spoken, very attentive and friendly owner and staff (a very nice waitress who had only just started at the restaurant). Food really tasty. Recommended!

Fantastic little restaurant in a very nice setting. We had 3 courses and everything was delicious and seasoned to perfection. The octopus was a real highlight and perfectly cooked. Excellent service from Jonathon who made us feel very welcome and spoke excellent english. Great value with very nice wine options. Not to be missed if nearby.

Sublime! We wanted to have local cuisine and were attracted earlier in the afternoon by the location. Persuaded we went for a fab dining experience. I was weary about octopus, because we've had an awful experience. They did not let us down. The pulpo was tender, cooked to perfection. Went on to order a Pluma Ibérica, the best pork cut you can find. And again, cooked to perfection. The final touch to close a golden night was the homemade cheese cake. Yes you heard it well! At first I wasn't sure , cuz it's of course not local. But the waiter persuaded us and boy was I pleased with the choice. Highly recommended!

Este restaurante tiene una terraza para unas 6 ó 7 mesas aproximadamente pero también tiene mesas en el interior el cual es muy agradable con una pequeña barra. El servicio es muy atento y la comida es buena. Dispone de un horno donde prepararon las chuletitas de cordero lechal que comí, excelentes. No os perdáis las croquetas. Una buena carta de vinos.

A lovely dinner at Restaurant La Raiz. The server warmed up to us (we were slightly annoying as we hadn’t booked!) but we were relaxed and just seeing where would have us, thankfully they had space. We both had steak and I have to say, it was the best steak I have had in a long time. They brought out the sizzling hot plate to cook our steak more (it arrived rare so I like mine a little more well done!) and the experience was brilliant. It melted in the mouth. Great meal, we had a lovely time.

The food was delicious. We recommend the octopus starter, the salmon with mango sauce, the dorado with garlic sauce, and the local wine. The service wasn't nearly as good as it was a year ago. The waiter only came back once after our entrees arrived, never asking if we wanted more to drink when our glasses were empty and never taking our dessert order (we had been planning to order some dessert, instead we got up to leave which prompted him to bring our bill).

Un buen sitio para comer en Gaucín. Trato muy amable y buena comida. Probamos el trampantojo y nos gustó mucho. El único pero ha sido que las carnes a la brasa no estaban en su punto, un poco pasadas, sobre todo los solomillos de cerdo ibérico. Quizás deberían preguntar en que punto se quiere la carne. Los postres exquisitos, sobre todo el arroz con leche cristalizado con helado de canela. Precio 28 euros por cabeza.

Reviews are pretty awesome, but unfortunately I was pretty underwhelmed with the whole experience. The terrace is beautifully situated, with a pretty view from above of the terrace of another cafe. If only the food and service were better, it would have been a nice experience. We had some platters to share as a starter, salmon for mains, and a chocolate dessert and apple crumble for dessert. The shrimps in the starter were overcooked, the salmon was dry. The salad missed a punch and seemed nothing more than a mixed salad from the carrefour. The applecrumble was nice, but nothing special. Overall I left disappointed. The pictures show the view from the terrace, the shrimps and the salad.

Based on the brilliant reviews I decided to drive to the village to pay this restaurant a visit during my holiday. What a disappointment: The service was unattentive instead of friendly and the food uninspired. The vegetables served on the side with the main course were tasty, while all else lacked taste and sometimes even was overcooked. I ended up wishing I had gone to the tapasbar on the same square, so I wouldn't recommend Raiz

Это не первый отзыв который я пишу….Я всегда оставляю честные рецензии в не зависимости от места, и мне искренне жаль что я потратила 30 минут своего времени на дорогу в этот ресторан с хорошими оценками …Даже не знаю с чего начать, с резервом стола не возникло проблем, по телефону я забронировала столик по дороге, почитав отзывы и посмотрев фото я четко понимала что мы хотим заказать…настроение было оптимистическим и мы были в предвкушении прекрасного ужина (ибо как показывали отзывы, ценник был не демократический). Хочу отметить работу официанта, все было четко, лаконично, но с абсолютным равнодушием к своей работе и к гостям которые посещают место его работы….в остальном нет претензий….Но кто объяснит причину почему гости которые пришли после нас, получили те же блюда раньше чем заказывали мы? С учетом того что нас было 2 персоны, тут уже вопрос прерогативы….кто заслужил хорошего и быстрого обслуживания, а кто нет…на мой взгляд это не допустимо….Теперь по поводу блюд-я люблю описывать блюда которыми я наслаждаюсь, увы, осьминог которого мы продегустировали умер напрасно😂😂😂 либо он умер а потом его приготовили. Насчет второго блюда это вообще фурор…его нам пришлось есть в дороге поскольку ни времени, ни желания есть в этом месте уже не было…Если бы я хотела пожевать подошву ботинка, я бы пошла в обувной, а не в этот ресторан. Мясо, которое мы забрали с собой, больше напоминало резиновый коврик для фитнеса. Пожалуй, лучшее, что можно сделать с этим блюдом — использовать его как тренажёр для жевательных мышц. Если вы мечтаете об идеальной челюсти, рекомендую, но если хотите поесть, — бегите…вообщем кто хочет насладится полностью туристическим местом с отсутствием вкуса и наличием деталей…Вам сюда, Увы…я не рекомендую
