Inwood Restaurant is a beloved, old-fashioned cafe known for its generous portions, friendly service (especially from waitresses like Nicole, Ericka, and Natasha), and delicious food. Expect a wait sometimes, but many find it worthwhile. Pecan pancakes and pies are highly recommended.
Tip: Be prepared for large portions; consider splitting an order, especially the pancakes!

Best food I've had and it reminded me of when my parents would make dinner. Everything was great and the service was nice.
This restaurant is a hidden gem. We were staying at Shenandoah Crossings and heard about it. I had pork chops and apples, they were delicious 😋. My husband had pork BBQ and loved it as well. Both came with soup and salad bar. All homemade. There banana cream pie was the best I have ever eaten.
Stopped in here while visiting a family member. Breakfast was AMAZING!! Cooked exactly how I asked, and I'm picky, lol!! Had THE Best Corned Beef Hash & over medium eggs!! We will be back for More!
Me an my family love this place the steak 's are the best an very big. Even the bake potatoes are good. This place also has a salad bar. Great friendly service. Definitely a good place to stop by an eat. I travel up to 45min to go here when we want steak's for dinner..
This is a awesome hole in the wall! Everytime we come here my fiance orders the sirloin steak dinner and I always try something different. The portion sizes that you get are out of this world huge and you never leave hungry with always left over food to take home! If you are ever in the area, please stop by here and I promise you won't be disappointed!! Always looking forward to visiting again and will be soon!
Great little diner with friendly staff and good, reasonably priced food
Super kind and personable service, very experienced staff, with a tremendous historic locale makes this place a must visit. Oh, did I forget to mention how humongous proportions are, the low price, and superbly delicious the food was... because it truly is!
All the staff are really friendly and our breakfast was terrific. My blueberry pancakes were excellent and the portion was so large I couldn't finish it! But what I did eat lasted me until dinner.
This place was a pleasant surprise! We stopped in for breakfast. You get alot of bang for your buck. The bacon was crispy, but not burnt like most restaurants do. The pancakes were huge and my wife and I left stuffed!
What a great place!! Food was wonderful! large portions, we had the hamburger steak, it came with mashed with gravy and peas, grilled toast and a BIG piece of pie! service was fantastic, our waitress Erica was very sweet and very attentive. Traveling from Florida back to NY and were sick of fast food. This was good food fast in a wonderful nostalgic restaurant. Highly recommend!!
My husband and I had our 19th anniversary here. Everything was great. Of course it didn't hurt that our waitress liked my dress. 😄 Had to laugh at some of the one star reviews. The people show up after seven then got upset because the restaurant was closed. If they looked at the website they would have known.
What a great little place! I was visiting from NY and my friend moved down the road a couple years ago. Our waitress was a sweetheart; so accommodating of my three year old niece. The biscuits with sausage gravy hit the spot and I’m absolutely trying the pecan pancakes next time!
Went to the "Inwood" this evening for dinner with a friend. I ordered the country ham steak, apples, (real) mashed potatoes, Texas toast and the salad bar. Everything was superb. My friend got the country fried steak mashed potatoes and the salad bar. Again, his meal was great. We both got a piece of pie, as well. They were very busy, however our waitress was very nice and attentive. I would highly recommend this place.
The portions here are huge. I ordered the special which includes the entree, drink, salad and soup bar, and a piece of pie which made it an even better deal. Food was good and the staff were pleasant. Would definitely come back.
I don’t recall who our server was(tatted guy w/glasses) but he was uber chill, super friendly, & pre-empted EVERY item that was ordered. The food was gigantic for the price, & it was great!!! We ordered the Mush/Swiss Burger, Roast Beef Sand, & a Steak; I couldn’t fit the burger so I had to eat it in layers, my mothers RB Sand must’ve had 10-12oz of beef, & my aunts steak literally FILLED the plate. The RB Sand & Steak came with Soup & Salad, & my burger came with a plateful of fries. I give the 5stars for “atmosphere” bc this place is a 50y/o local haunt & being “there” & “in the moment” enjoying the company of staff & locals, & for the amazing food they serve you is why you go; and that’s the BEST atmosphere you can be given in our crazy society today. This IS the mom & pop place EVERYONE should eat at. It’s a little “hole-in-the-wall” that’s been there for 50years & I’ll DEF be back soon!!!! Please yall go support this local gem in Gordonsville, and tell your friends abt em after you can’t finish the food they bring you!!! Kudos everyone at Inwood, well done!!!
The Inwood Restaurant is a great local place to grab a reasonably priced meal. We enjoyed the fried flounder lunch special and the hamburger steak with mashed potatoes and green beans. The portions were large, and everything was tasty, except for the overcooked hushpuppies. That was my one and only complaint. The special included tea and pie...great!!! Our server was very friendly and attentive. I highly recommend going.
This is the place to stop and eat. The prices are fair and the food is yum. I ordered a bacon cheeseburger. Quality bun and quality ground beef. A genuine honest burger. The regulars told me the breakfast is top-notch. This is roadside local diner fare. This is a leisurely place, so do not stop in if you are wanting a quick-serve meal.
Excellent comfort food. Good country cooking. Nicest employees anywhere. Salad bar, mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples with pork chops can't be beat It's say good I returned for breakfast 6am the next mornings. I had large, flap Jack style, pecan pancakes. These were excellent. One demerit for overcooked sausage. Best place to eat in town.
I have been going to Inwood Restaurant in Gordonsville Virginia for many years, this is a Family own Restaurant that has good quality, generous portions, delicious food. Awesome deserts, friendly courteous service, the people that work there, put a smile on your face. I really love dining there.
Went here with the family the other day. Nice small town southern charm with friendly staff that stopped by enough to keep our glasses full and our needs met without stopping by too much or asking us how our meal was every time we took a bite. Food was affordable and good too, I kept it simple with french toast (which I loved), but I stole a few bites of potatoes off the wife's plate and LOVED them too.
Classic local diner hasn't changed a lot in decades. Friendly staff good food with a simple salad bar. It was rather pricey but they have raised their prices less than most other restaurants. The burgers are great.
Ate there on 8/09/2020 and both the Mrs and I had the Jumbo Bacon Cheese Burger and it was phenomenal! This is a hand made patty that was cooked perfectly topped of with crispy bacon, melted cheese, and fresh crisp lettuce and juicy sweet tomatoes. The order of French fries was large enough to split which we did at the waitresses suggestion. They were hot, crispy, and had just the right amount of salt. Didn't have room to try their desserts this time but they looked just as good as the burgers tasted. Can't wait to go back and try their steaks and desserts.
My neighbor took me there for lunch. I am newer to this area and had never been there. All the people who worked there were absolutely FRIENDLY, smiles on their faces. They treated everyone special and even knew their names. It felt like FRIENDS and FAMILY gathering together. It's been a very long time since I've been in a restaurant with great FOOD, SERVICE and down to earth people. We WILL be coming here next week. Don't let the place fool ya. FANTASTIC food and FANTASTIC people who work there. You WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Go NOW
I was taken here for breakfast. It's a very home styled, cozy restaurant. The staff here were excellent. Friendly, helpful and efficient. The food here was just what I was looking for. I had the egg sandwich with bacon and boy did they stack on the crispy bacon, perfect! Grits... Well they were grits. No real flourish there, but tasty just the same. Coffee was excellent, had several refills. I would definitely come back again for breakfast. Now I just need to come in for lunch.
This place had good food and a comfy environment, good place to shelter from the storm that day. Our burgers tasted fresh and it was nice to see so many of the other patrons knew each other. Not going to lie, all the cop patches on the wall is not my thing but I can see how more regular patrons would be comfortable with this.
If I could give this place six stars o would! The food is great. The portions large and the prices very fair. I had the country fried steak - outstanding! As was my wife's fried chicken club sandwich. The coffee is very good too. Worth your time and money.
Best homemade soup. Salad bar fabulous. Food exceptional. Serving size you may want to split. Outstanding service and food. Update...back again ordered shrimp, they were served uncooked. We just went to salad bar and the shrimp arrived, no way they could of been cooked right. Timing is everything. Very disappointed..Salad bar and soup were great, the rest we left there, sent back and did not reorder
This was an unexpected find during our trip to Gordonsville. The exterior doesn't say much about the place, but the food was remarkable! Way better than we expected in every way. Portions were large too so very affordable.
Best breakfast I've ever had in a restaurant. Old style , family owed. Felt like I was back at ma's table, with her feeding me before going out to work. Prices are very reasonable. Food is plenty. Made me want to leave a big tip. ...... and i never want to tip. Family loved it. Will be back with our freinds and family
Arrived after lunch time, before dinner time. No crowd. Food was delish, service was wonderful. Don't have to worry about not getting enough to eat here, they serve very generous portions.
Everything they have is so good!!!Omg the steak is so good and it takes up the whole plate. This place is a local gem. I’ve been going here since I was a kid.
Breakfast was excellent! Eggs, fried potatoes, and biscuits were amazing! Fresh Orange Juice and the waitress was adorable!
Fantastic place to eat! Great southern food and small town atmosphere. Huge portions and delicious food.
Food and customer service are top notch. Staff is super friendly, and they always seem happy to see you, no matter how busy they are.
This place was home away from home! If you want your grandparents southern cooking come here! The staff was friendly and the food was so delicious. Worth the hour drive to get there for me! Didn't go just for that restaurant but the whole town of Gordonsville is adorable! Just remember to go to this restaurant when you're hungry!
This was the first restaurant we went to in 2025. I absolutely loved the service and atmosphere very friendly very welcoming. This is not a fast food burger joint, you order what you want the way you want it then wait for them to make it then and there. Love the down home simple cooking-tasted delicious. Large amount of food I took half of mine home for dinner. Excellent service was checked on a couple times including a few minutes after we had a chance to start eating our meal to make sure the food tasted good and we were happy with the way everything turned out. Definitely a great value for the money. Looking forward to going again.
Great food service and atmosphere. I will definitely go back again soon.
I and a coworker would eat lunch here almost every work day back in the 90’s. Great food, great service, very friendly staff
I was in the area for a wedding. I had to check out a local restaurant, and the Inwood is a local gem💯. I had steak and eggs. Eggs scrambled with cheese 🧀 the steak I ordered, Medium it, was right on the money, seasoned well and juicy 🤤🤤. The atmosphere was terrific service was on point. DOPE place 💯💯.
We've been to Inwood Restaurant twice and it has been fantastic on both occasions. This place embodies the cliche "Looks can be deceiving". It's been in Gordonsville for 50+ years, and doesn't appear to have been remodeled. But do NOT allow the run-down diner vibes to fool you. Food quality, quantity, service, and value all blew us away both visits. We experienced sirloins as big as your plate, hamburgers that require you to unlock your jaw, and buttery tender country fried steak. Our side dishes were superb...Cole slaw, green beans, mashed potatoes, and fries were all perfect. Lemon meringue pie was a hit. The staff treated us like family, making fresh coffee when two of us ordered it at suppertime, refilling drinks without being asked, and making helpful menu suggestions. We were stunned by the amount of food we received for the low price we paid. It was also busy both times, full of locals and 'regulars'. If you're close to Gordonsville and hungry, you'd be a fool to pass up a meal at the Inwood Restaurant.
Erica was the best waitress! She is on it! Very attentive and the breakfast food is the best we have ever had! My husband and I will be back 100%.
Visiting Gordonsville, VA for a few days, my wife and I saw this spot and chose to have breakfast there yesterday. This is a genuine, "good home-cooking" kind of restaurant. Wonderfully attentive and efficient staff as well as delicious food. I am not surprised that they have been in business for a long time. It is a great place to eat without breaking the bank.
This is a mom and pop country dinning experience you don’t want to miss! From the road, she may not look like much. But once inside you’ll see the friendly atmosphere, great food, and good prices are why this place has remained in business for over 50 years!
We are on vacation. And decided to go there for breakfast. Great food, staff was nice. Home cooked food.
This is a wonderful local family owned restaurant. The burgers are amazing. The salad bar is well tended so everything is fresh and delicious.
Great staff, our waitress recommended the country fried steak and it was delicious. We had a slice of pie to go.
We think food was great. A Chill mom and pop atmosphere that is busy on Monday. It was a very good sign to us! We turned around and stopped. The service was great, they were enthusiastic and very attentive. Very personal and kind. Excellent hushpuppies!!!! The crabcakes were nice, the burgers are beautiful! The tomatoes on them were so fresh. Homemade cream pies were a great finish. We grabbed two to go, banana and butterscotch.Definitely coming back.
Erica was welcoming, very attentive and efficient. The food was delicious. The soup /salad bar was a nice addition and the coconut cream pie was amazing! Thank you for your hospitality, amazing service and delicious food. We will be back!
The food is well prepared and delicious! Much better than most area eateries. Our server, Natasha, made our experience extra special. She knew exactly when to show up, when to chat, and when to go. She's a warm ,relaxed person and very efficient. The atmosphere is clean and simple, and nearly the same as it was when I ate here 50 years ago! This is our new go to!
YUM...YUM ..YUM...! Our server Nicole was great, food was great, price was great. Coconut Cream Pie and Apple Crumble Pie were DELICIOUS. Hidden gem. 5 stars isn't good enough.
We are vacationing in Gordonsville and decided to stop in. Great little cafe. We had biscuits and gravy, corn beef hash and pecan pancakes. Everything was delicious. Coffee is good too. Great breakfast experience and reasonably priced.
Everything was wonderful! The waitress was so nice and gave us good service! The food was sooo delicious! The portions were awesome, finally a place where you feel like you actually get your money's worth! Love the old-fashioned style and feel to the restaurant! Easy 5 star!!
We have driven past this restaraunt so many times on our way from Loudoun County to Zion Crossroads. Every time we pass, one of us will comment that we should stop... well, today was the day! We stopped & enjoyed a delicious breakfast of 2 eggs, fried potatoes & toast with a side of bacon & ham - topped off with oj & hot coffee. Everything was delicious, hot & fresh! Our waitress was wonderful, both very efficient & pleasant. We will definitely be stopping there again - this time for lunch or dinner!
This place is a treasure. It's amazing how generous the portions are. And how you get dessert with the specials. The staff is very friendly. You'll love it. I'm glad to know I have another dining option in Gordonsville. The food is delicious. Try the cheeseburger or country fried steak with white gravy, mashed potatoes and peas. Some of the best mashed potatoes you'll ever eat. And the chocolate pie will "make you wanna smack grandma"!
We really enjoyed it . Small town kind of place made you feel like you were home. The food was great the portion need I say it filled my husband and has a big eater. We most definitely will go back when we are in town again. Added pictures so you can see that the amount of food is big and the prices were comparable to fast food and food was over the too good.
Fun old school restaurant. Great people and service.
The waitress was great, very nice and good at her job. The breakfast was very good and portions were a good size as well. It took a good while to get our food as they were pretty busy, app 30 min . But everything was hot and good so it was worth the wait.
Great burgers. Really good fries. Large portions. Loved my BLT and pecan pie. Others enjoyed the vanilla ice cream. Diner atmosphere. Staff was quick and there was service with a smile. Burger was a little on the well side. Husband would’ve ordered medium and they didn’t ask so he thought they would then do medium. Son’s just ate them and said they were real good so not sure if theirs were well done too.
Our experience was pretty contrary to what appears to be a negative trend. We were seated right away after we walked in. Please note we came in right after typical lunch rush time. Service was good. Food was good. Atmosphere was definitely throwback and cozy! My only real complaint, and BARELY a complaint, is the coffee is weak. Then again I like my coffee strong AF, so your mileage may vary....
This family dinner is a gem nestled in the woods. If you happen this way, don't hesitate for a bite. We had grilled pork chops, club sandwiches, grilled cheese, and chicken fingers. I'm about to eat my Boston Creme pie. The service was great, and the people friendly. I had to knock it one mark because the exterior and interior could use maintenance. I really only mention that so you don't just keep driving. I promise the food and people were great! I posted pictures of food and flare.
We tried this place based off recommendations from the staff at Bluegreen Resorts. It is a small dinner that serves huge portions for reasonable prices. I ordered the sirloin with shrimp for $22. The steak is huge. I recommend that you ask for it to be cooked a bit more done than you normally like it. I asked for medium and got medium rare. Wife asked for her NY strip Steak medium well and got it medium.
Like an old mom and pop restaurant. Basic diner food served hot. Service excellent. I always gave to get a piece of apple pie to take because I’m too full to eat it there and it’s too good to not take home.
The portions are over the top in size and very good. My only grievance like many places is that they don't serve turkey or chicken sausage for breakfast. When you have a red meat allergy like me, I want an alternative for breakfast meat. I will say I was able to get a grilled chicken breast for a replacement and was delicious! Cook Amy really rocks it!
We ate here quite late one night. It was ~ 7:30pm. They close at 8pm. I didn't see what I really wanted on the menu so I asked for an open face roast beef and gravy sandwich with fries. They actually made my meal to order. It tasted wonderful. Wow, that was excellent and fairly priced. My wife loved her meal too. We both avoided the salad bar as it was quite limited and looked very tired so late in the day. Our waitress couldn't have been any nicer. Recommended eatery located northeast of Gordonsville, VA.
Food is awesome! We do love eating there. But we have always thought that the place needs updating. Pictures are faded from decades of use. Not much to look at other then the faded pictures. It’s not all the new owner’s fault. She is awesome! The old owners should have updated years ago. Needs a GOOD CLEANING.
I always see cars parked out front so I had to try lunch here. 16$ for a burger with fries.
Food was excellent. Employee kids running around. The waitress disappeared, I went to front counter to pay and to get a to go container for leftovers. No one came to register, so I grabbed a container myself. The employees walking and talking to each other and obviously "the regulars", totally ignoring me standing there
Food was not good. Overcooked fried fish heavily battered. Overcooked hush puppies. Canned vegetables and instant potatoes. Came for lunch for steak. No steak on lunch menu. Told afterwards I could have ordered steak from dinner menu . From Alabama on vacation and was very disappointed 😞
we got sat, but then the regulars and what seemed like their family members come in 10 min AFTER we ordered. they got their food and finished before we even got ours. so they pushed our order to the side to serve other people. the food was fine after waiting closer to hour. im sure the restaurant does live up to all the other good reviews but i hope thats something they can work on moving forward.
60+ minutes to get food. Firstly, our server was very nice and consistently checked in to refill our coffees. However, what brought the rating down substantially was how long it took to get our food! A table next to us literally left due to waiting too long for their order and I wish I had done the same. We sat down at 10:20am and we did not receive our food until 11:25am! Literally more than an hour after being seated. Only after asking about our food nearly an hour after ordering were we told that the kitchen was backed up due to another large party. But the fact that we had to ask about an update so long after ordering rather than them letting us know beforehand left a rather poor impression on us. The food was fine. Cream chipped beef had a nice thicker sauce with a decent amount of chipped beef. Pecan pancakes were okay but lacked pecan flavor aside from the small amount of crushed pecans cooked into the pancakes. Maybe this was a one-off kind of experience due to another party taking up there efforts, but regardless, 60 minutes to get our food is truly unreasonable.
After coming to this restaurant for many years, I met a group of friends there today for lunch. After we had finished our meal, I asked our waitress, Kim, if I could place a to-go order for a burger for my husband who was home with an injured back, and she told me no, that they were not accepting to-go orders that day because it was the cooks first day. As we were already seated in the restaurant, and were not calling in a "to-go" order, I did not see the issue with making our table an additional meal. The restaurant was not even busy. After the waitress walked away we observed the cook preparing an order into to-go boxes and placing it in a bag, then handing it to a customer that was leaving and paying for his meal. When our waitress returned, my friend asked her why this person could get a to-go order, yet we could not. We were told that it was part of his order. My friend then asked, well, we would like to order a burger for here, and please bring a box with it. The waitress said she would have to ask the cook. I could see and hear the conversation she had with the cook and already knew it was going to be bad. The cook had a annoyed look on her face and was angrily saying it would be an hour or an hour and a half before she could make our burger. When the waitress returned she told us that it would be an hour wait for our burger. As I said before they were not busy. When my friend told the waitress that she was shocked, and that in all the years she had been coming there she had never received such poor service, the waitress became VERY nasty and disrespectful and told her "well you don't have to come back here ever again!" and then stormed off from the table. After her behavior we had enough and immediately got up to leave. While my friend's husband was paying the bill she said to the waitress that she was very rude. To which the waitress replied that my friend was rude, to never come back to the restaurant, and several other nasty remarks as she was walking away. We were all shocked by this rude behavior, and from some of the reviews I have read online today, we have not been the only ones. I will be calling management and reporting this behavior. They have lost the business of 3 households today by the rude and uncalled for actions of the cook and waitress. Obviously they do not care about losing customers.
The food was the WORST we've ever eaten. Every item was consistently terrible. You couldn't make food this bad if you tried. The only good things were the craisins on the salad bar. And, the prices were very high for a little country restaurant. I wouldn't give this food to my dog. AVOID this place like the plague.
I wouldn’t know. We looked online it stated open to 8. We could make it there by 7:30, so we decided to drive there. As soon as we walked in we heard”Sorry..we are closed”. Restaurants and businesses should honor their hours or change them on their websites’.
Inwood Restaurant has long been a beloved part of my family’s history. Nestled in Gordonsville, this establishment has served the local community for over 50 years. For us, it was more than just a restaurant… it was a tradition and family memories. My grandmother, now in her eighties, has been a regular customer for decades and requested we take her there for her Mother’s Day celebration. We were all looking forward to the comfort of familiar food and cherished memories. Unfortunately, what we experienced was a sobering reflection of how much the restaurant has changed in the years since COVID-19, and not for the better. To begin with, the quality of the food has clearly declined. The salad bar was sparse and poorly maintained. The lettuce was limp and browning in spots, and the vegetable beef stew, a family favorite we grew up enjoying, was unrecognizable. Not only did it taste as though it came from a can, but it contained no beef whatsoever. We stirred through the entire bowl and found nothing but vegetables and broth. I ordered the clam strip dinner, a lighter option than my usual ribeye. Unfortunately, the dish resembled something straight out of the freezer aisle, likely a mass-produced brand such as SeaPak, but came with a restaurant markup. My brother ordered the pork chops, which were shockingly paper-thin, unseasoned, and dry. Neither of us finished our meals, nor did my grandmother, who was so disappointed that she asked to speak to the manager. After a lengthy wait, the manager came to our table and assured us that the stew was “the same recipe it’s always been.” Regarding the pork chops, she told us that “we don’t season our food in case someone has allergies — the only thing we season here is the steaks.” This explanation, while perhaps well-intentioned, seemed impractical. I noted that in most restaurants, allergy accommodations are handled case by case, not by removing seasoning altogether from core menu items. And we’re talking no salt or pepper even. When I gently pointed out how her tone came across as condescending during this conversation, the situation quickly escalated. The manager became visibly frustrated and abruptly told us, “Y’all can leave.” And so, we did… stunned, saddened, and disheartened at the changes we saw. What was meant to be a special family outing turned into a disappointing and frustrating experience. Rising prices are understandable, but when they’re paired with declining food quality, lack of attention to detail, and dismissive service, it’s difficult to justify returning. Inwood was once a warm, welcoming place full of flavor and familiarity. I sincerely hope the ownership takes this feedback to heart, both for the sake of loyal patrons like my grandmother and for the future of what was once a pillar of this community
I called and I tried to place a order for pick up and was told there doing dine in only . I could Understand if I had called close to closing, but I called 2 hours before closing. Why would you want to turn away business? Even busy restaurants dont turn away orders. They werent busy, i drove by there on my way to hardess , so i hope i get a reaponse of why your not taking orders for pick up?
