Opinions de Costeaux French Bakery Healdsburg
I had 2 bear claws and 3 raisin cinnamon wheels from here and they were amazing! I initially got only 1 pastry but had to go back and get more just because they tasted so good. The place was busy but they had plenty of seating and the vibe is very friendly.
Indiana Hoosier here, we ordered Hero Bread Keto croissants that are made by this bakery in the Bay Area and we couldn’t be more pleased! We hope to one day be able to step into your establishment and feel the history! Thanks for taking great care to be mindful of our health.
Outstanding little bakery to stop at for breakfast or lunch if you're hopping between vineyards in Sonoma County! Pretty standard menu but it is all done well. The cinnamon toast really stands out. We were looking forward to dessert but the hostess brought us our check right away, and the waiter never came back, so we had to leave earlier than we had wanted, but we had a generally good experience otherwise.
We go here for breakfast over the years and returned recently. Breakfast was good. The bread is outstanding. The staff is super friendly. The atmosphere is pretty wonderful. I would always stop at this place.
Friendly staff. Very good breakfast food. Nice setting.
An experience for the eyes and nose. Received a coupon for their famous Cinnamon Walnut Bread, but ended up also buying Mocha Florentines and Mexican Wedding Cookies. Simply decadent, delicious, and amazing.
This place is our go-to place for breakfast when in Healdsburg. Every dish we’ve ordered is mouth-watering and excellent. The service is next-level. Check them out, you won't be disappointed!
Lovely French bakery. We had breakfast and purchased croissants and a wonderful cinnamon walnut bread. It's to die for!
Great food + friendly staff = a very enjoyable experience.
Costeaux Bakery is one of my favorite places to visit on our frequent trips to the area. Outstanding pastries (my favorites include the croissants, especially the almond and chocolate ones), bread and coffee!!
Delightful and delicious! We enjoyed a wonderful breakfast at the Costeaux French Barkery during our recent trip to Wine Country. I had the French Toast and my husband had eggs and hashbrown potatoes. Really, you can't got wrong wth anything on their menu. The restaurant is quite large and inviting on the inside, with a lovely bakery counter where you can purchase breads and treats to take with you. We sat out on their patio, and it was the perfect weather for a delicious breakfast! Prices are just right, meal sizes are just right, and everything was great. Definitely worth a visit if you're a local or an out-of-towner. Bon Apetit!
We had Costeaux bake our cake and cater a dessert bar for our wedding, and we are so happy with the end result! Everything tasted fantastic and Alex was so kind and responsive. Thank you for being part of our big day!!!
This place is excellent! The food is outstanding and so is the service! We just happened on this place while out in wine country and decided to have breakfast there. Highly recommended!
I've always loved Costeaux. It's one of the last vestiges of "old Healdsburg." It's a great place for breakfast! With indoor and outdoor seating....its a wonderful weekend brunch spot, complete with mimosas. I also appreciate that well behaved dogs are welcome on their patio. They are usually treated to a bowl of cold water and a dog cookie. My dog and I have had Many relaxing meals together there.🐾 The food is always good at Costeaux. My favorites have always been either the eggs benedict or the Turkey-cranberry sandwich. Their baked goods are also quite good....nice breads, scrumptious cookies and lovely classic cakes. Try the chocolate krinkle cookies! Until recently, they had wonderful staff that had been there for many, MANY years, but it seems like most have now left. If you want a nice ( good quality ), casual breakfast or lunch.....check them out!! But be aware, they do close early - 2pm ( I think )
Very busy Sunday morning and we got great service and were able to sit out in the front with our dog. Well done.
Costeaux french bakery is a must-go-to place downtown Healdsburg. The ribbons and metals that Costeaux has won over the years are literally all over the place! Interestingly, not only have they won best bakery awards they also have multiple best-place-to-work awards too. Then you get to the food! Wow, excellent pastries, cakes and breakfast plates to choose from. You can either come and sit down in their delightful and spacious cafe or you can order from the rows and rows of delicious pastry and cakes at the counter.
Excellent food. We went there 3 times (during a 3 day stay) and every meal was 5-star. The service, however, is horrible. Like many businesses these days, there appears to be a staffing shortage and insufficient training. We had to flag our server (who rarely looked around) to get items we ordered and refills. During our final meal there, we took our cups to the counter for a refill because we knew we’d never get one otherwise. We sat inside but there is a lovely patio too.
On a recommendation of our local friend, we decided to have breakfast at Costeaux French Bakery. We were greeted with prompt, friendly service and seated right away. The coffees were excellent. We ordered the breakfast quiche and it was very substantial and filled with yumminess! We'll be back to try their other dishes soon.
Had a nice brunch here with everything having been on the better side of good. Their benedicts were particularly tasty with a very good hollandaise as the star of the show. Get their mimosa service too. The only complaints was the main dish was erring on being cold and there were a goodly amount of flies buzzing around.
We started out with an eclair that was delectable (they even have mini ones we saw in the case)! The eggs Benedict had such a rich hollandaise sauce, and the house made English muffins were light and fluffy. We also tried their croissant sandwich which was also a hit, and came with a side of fruit which was nice for balance. The service was speedy considering how busy they were, and all the staff were very friendly.
I had the monte Cristo with their amazing cinnamon walnut bread. So tasty. Served with a small salad with light dressing it was perfect. Service was nice, and relatively quick for a Saturday. They also have a huge display case of other fresh baked treats. Definitely a good spot for breakfast or lunch.
Might be THE best breakfast sandwich I have ever had. Perfectly crispy but still soft with a great combo with the eggs, bacon, cheese, avocado, and sauce. We sat outside and the tables and setup is very nice. The inside is so pretty and looks like something out of a movie set. The hostess was so sweet, she greeted us right away and setup our table. The waiter Alex was great and did a great job.
Delicious breakfast with great service. My girlfriend loves the fingerling potatoes - never change, Costeaux Fingerling Potatoes. However, we couldn’t help but notice the ‘largest pumpkin pie’ tin… upon further research, it seems this measly 418 pound pie does not come close to the true largest pumpkin pie which reaches a whopping 3699 pounds. Slightly disappointing, but we’ll still be back for those potatoes.
Great breakfast with excellent service in a super cute rustic french countryside setting. Many gluten free options with good code and mocha selections. Ample indoor seating with some good outside heated seating. We enjoyed the Ghirardelli Mocha very much! Opens at 730 am ahead of most places in Healdsburg to allow for a jump on a full day of wine tasting! Highly recommend!
French bakery lovers need to experience this one! I have been let down by multiple famous French bakeries in California, and finally I found one I love! They had an awesome selection, friendly staff, and delicious eclairs! Possibly the best eclairs ever! Plump full of real cream filling, smothered in a gob of fresh chocolate, and minimal crust. It was a bit too much chocolate for me...but I easily pealed some off and enjoyed the pastry. I will go out of my way for this place.
Delicious bakery & cafe! Our family has been buying Costeaux products for decades. Love the fresh breads and cookies. Incredible cakes. The inside cafe is very spacious and has a private room for special meetings. Recently I enjoyed a Windsor Chamber event decorating cookies with my girlfriend. The staff is super friendly, its kid friendly and dog friendly. Just steps away to Healdsburg center plaza. Lovely place. Support local! ♥️
If you're craving fresh baked goods, the local bakery is a must-visit. It's the only one in town, so it's often quite busy, but the pastries are well worth the wait. The portions are American-sized rather than French-sized, but they're still delicious. The ambiance is lovely, making it a great spot for brunch. Don't forget to grab some pastries to go - they're perfect for a midday snack or as a treat for later on. And of course, the coffee is also excellent.
Good atmosphere as the restaurant was not busy and the food was great. Only downside was the customer service from most of the staff. Although they were efficient and timely, they lacked courtesy and friendliness. No 'how are you, no smiles no can I get you anything else?' The only employee who was the well rounded was the person at the pastry counter. Excellent customer service with a smile and enthusiasm.
Loved the ambiance and atmosphere! Very cute bakery, definitely a place to visit for an experience. Lovely well-lit bakery cases, and a variety of cake slices at around $8.50 per slice. We had lunch here as well and I got the burger. The menu said wagyu beef, but if you don't know how rare and expensive real wagyu beef is, then just know that what you're really eating is regular, fattier ground beef. I knew this, and still ordered and enjoyed it for the most part. At $25 for the burger and fries, I was surprised to find that it was also the tiniest $25 burger and fry I've ever seen! Burger was the same size as an in-and-out burger, but not as many fries as in-and-out serves. It was just enough food I suppose. I was content, but I normally eat smaller portions so it's not a huge issue. We also got an iced cookie from the bakery and while it was cute, I'm sorry to say it was not tasty at all. The cookie was very over cooked and brown throughout. I couldn't taste any butter in the cookie itself, and it really relied on the heavy sweetness of the royal icing to cover up the off-putting taste. Our whole meal (2 entrées, 1 kid plate + side, 1 drink, and a cookie) was a few dollars shy of $100. The food was a very expensive "eh" but the ambiance was cute and I'm glad we experienced it.
Cute and cozy, french bistro feel. Good natural lighting. Bakery available for purchasing bread, cookies, biscottis and much more. Dinning area had a wait, but menu variety made it worth it. We ordered the Peach Mimosa and Hibiscus Bellini. Both were well balanced and refreshing. For our entrees the French dip and Smoked duck sandwich, both served with pomme frites (French fries 😋) French dip was juicy and delicious , with the softest ciabatta bread. The duck was flavorful and the multigrain added texture. Both were very good and we'd order again. Definitely coming back if ever 8n the area.
Unique community environment with very friendly staff. Food service is quick and delicious.
Exposed ceiling bakery and eatery. Came here on a Friday and ordered the Costeaux Benedict, the avocado toast and a cappuccino. The tables around us were packed with couples, families and friends taking in a big meal ahead of the day’s activities. (Or kicking off weekend plans) The plates being served around us looked delectable.
Popular long time local bakery (est. 1923) and cafe. Everything is delicious. Bakes their own breads and desserts served at the cafe. Popular dishes serve are the French Onion Soup, Mussels & Pommes Frites, Smoke Duck Breast Sandwich. Friendly staff, #KidFriendly (high chairs) #DogFriendly (outdoor dining area and will provide dog water bowl).
The best quiche for sure but smaller serving size over past year! Delicious chicken salad.
I am always excited to see a French bakery and expected the pastries, especially the baguettes ($4), to be truly Parisienne. Not so. Disappointingly it was soft and crusty and lacked density. I ordered a Costeaux salad consisting of mixed greens, green apple, walnuts, grapes and goat cheese ($13) It was nice and light and perfect. That saves the rating. Staff was friendly but not attentive.
On the northern edge of the town center. Lovely, big space, but a little too crowded for my preference and a little too warm. The foods was delicious (croissant sandwich, eggs Benedict and the Turkey sandwich) , but the coffee is per cup. They have beautiful looking baked goods in the bakery section.
Super cute and airy place. We ordered the Pain Perdu (French toast) and onion soup. The latter was really good - thick and rich. The server was also really polite and gracious even though we accidentally entered by the back door (we were following Google maps’ directions) and skipped the line in front. Oops! Nice place to bring kids too - family friendly. They gave my daughter crayons and paper to color.
A lovely place for brunch and baked goods. Offering many vegetarian options. The vegan eggs and soy chorizo are scrumptious and their sour dough bread and veggie sandwiches are delicious and filling. The bakery is packed with an assortment of Fresh French pastries, cookies, muffins, and decorative cakes. The prices are high for the quantity of food you receive on your plate but overall very tasty dishes, sandwiches and sweet treats— my go to is their cinnamon walnut bread— extremely addictive. The waitstaff are friendly and courteous so I definitely recommend checking out this quaint historical bakery located off of downtown Healdsburg.
Very nice atmosphere. Great people and a great town. Very very inexperienced restaurant owner. First if you store brie with blue cheese, the mold will migrate and now your brie tastes like blue cheese. If you are going to use canned navy beans instead of black beans for your chilaquiles, you have soak it to get rid of the phytates otherwise it taste like factory. If you prep your oil with croutons or any type of carbs which is a great idea, you would need to remove all of it before it turns to fine granules of carbon. Otherwise it feels like sand between your teeth.
Food - 5, Service - 2 We were seated promptly but then the wait began. The restaurant was about 75% full. We waited for 20 minutes before waving down a waitress and asking her to send our server over. She said she would see who was supposed to cover our table and she was the one who came back to take our order. The food came quickly and was delicious. The eggs Benedict were jazzed up with bacon, spinach and avocado, and they were served with potatoes. No complaints about the food. The service, however, continued to fail. No one came around to inquire if we wanted a refill on our coffee. We waited another 15 minutes after completing our meal before we gave up and flagged our waitress down to ask for the check. She brought it quickly but then never returned to pick it up. It's a shame. Pre-pandemic this was a great place for breakfast.
I’ve ordered several cakes from them over the years but unfortunately I don’t think I can anymore due to the fact they misspelled a birthday cake I ordered and never responded back when I emailed and called about the issue with their Signature Cake. I spelled the name correctly on the form, so am not sure why such a common name was misspelled so badly, or why the staff never responded. I’ve never met a “Jonh” before, but I’m just glad “John” liked the taste of his cake anyways.
My wife and I have been patrons for probably more than 25 years. We love their baked goods and the restaurant is lovely to sit outside and relax. Our lunch yesterday was unremarkable. The quality of the food has gone down. The quiche was meh, the vegetables in the quiche were cooked beyond recognition. My wife’s Niçoise Salad, too creative by half, was anything but French. It was just weird. For an $80 lunch (w/tip) my expectations are fairly high. I’m sad that one of our stops is just not that terrific anymore.
Good selection of bakery items but they are experts overcooking eggs. I ate here twice while on a trip and I would recommended a bakery item and coffee. Do not order eggs.
Place felt a bit run down. Was looking forward to pastries as they are supposedly French and I had heard good things. Was underwhelmed with the presentation, everything was bland and lacking salt. I can only speak for the pastries as I wasn’t going here for their breakfast or lunch which may be better. Was just expecting more so it was disappointing given they are a bakery. I would not go again for pastries.
Food was good, but the service here left so so much to be desired. My girlfriend and I were here for over two hours largely just reminding staff that we were still waiting for our food and having to flag staff down for extremely basic things like a menu after being seated, utensils, water, the check, and just someone to actually swipe our card after putting it down immediately after finally getting the check. We understand that it’s a Saturday morning, but we literally watched as MULTIPLE parties around us who arrived long after we did got their food and left in a timely manner.
I love eating here, even though there are very limited #glutenfree options, their Costeaux omelette and bacon (soft) is very tasty. Their hibiscus Bellini(?) is amazing, but recently has been mia-hopefully not permanently so! I have been here close to 100 xs over the last several years-and have always had fantastic service until this very last time last month. My server, whom I did not recognize, did not seem to register concern when I specified glutenfree #celiac- please no toast and be extra careful of cross contamination. He was suddenly switched off part way through my meal (without explanation)—he had already fumbled refilling surrounding new tables coffee mugs multiple times while ignoring us and another waiter had to step in, I should have known-sigh. Nothing appeared wrong with my meal when it arrived-so maybe they put toast on it and pulled it before it arrived, or used a dirty knife, but I got #glutened for my first time. It is a risk I take eating anywhere sadly, so it will not keep me from going back-because it is the first time in a hundred that it has ever happened there. However, be very weary of your server’s attitude-they may have some new staff who think #celiac is a hoax :( Also, their patio is #dogfriendly :)
The food was okay. Nothing impressive nor unique. I asked for a Breakfast Croissant and I have to admit, I regretted my option because it was very pain. I've tried their pastries which are super delicious so I had high expectations about the food. Other than that, It's cool.
Normally the French onion soup is top notch. Today it fell short. The cheese which normally is cascaded over the edge of the bowl and beautifully browned in spots was well below the top of the bowl and just barely melted. It arrived after we were finished with our main course. The beet salad was perfect. The quiche was tasty but overcooked. Such a shame they weren’t on top of their game today.
Chocolate Cake- delicious. Not the best, but still great flavor and moisture. Coconut Cake - on the dry, crumbly side but good flavor. Wouldn't need again. Croissant - flaky, airy, salty, buttery delicious croissant goodness. Would absolutely get again Raspberry cheese Danish- good, nothing Earth shattering. Don't need again
Very sub par. We ordered sandwiches to go and sat in the square to have lunch. The turkey on croissant was squishy - no self-respecting French baker would call that a croissant. The ham on wheat - bread was dry. The meat was standard Boar's Head, definitely not jambon. You'd think a "french" bakery would offer dijon mustard, but no, just standard yellow mustard. The potato salad - potatoes were undercooked. The brownie - inedible, tasting of chemicals. The lemon bar tasted of raw flour. I will say they cut up the fruit nicely for the fruit cup. But I can get better at a standard supermarket deli for significantly less money.
The coffee was cold, she asked if I wanted room for cream, but, brought no cream, and then nothing to stir the coffee with. Worst of all, I had to go and get a new coffee and stiring stick. TERRIBLE SERVICE...so Canceled my meal....was not sure how that would turn out.
Food quality was great. A bit pricey. When asked if we wanted anything else, I responded that we may want to look at the dessert menu. We decided not. Then I asked my wife if she would like anymore of my unfinished bennedict. She said she was ok. Before I even had a chance to finish the plate, the server ran off with the rest without time for me to even say a word. No offer for a to go box even. Somehow the empty bowl of french onion was left on the table. We still had half a bottle of Brut on the table as well. I was quite shocked as I've never experinced anything like this before in my life. He then returned with the bill, which was never asked for at that point either. Sadly it could have been a 5 star rating as the original waiter was nice and attentive. Guard your food here if you decide to dine!
Cute spot for lunch that I wanted to love but the food and service were just ok. The beet salad was tasty but smallish and the turkey sandwich was not good. Basic deli meat which was a little slimy. Service ok but not great. Cookies to go, dry and bland. I don’t recommend.
I just visited this upscale breakfast spot in Healdsburg( where I live!) with my dad , hoping to enjoy a nice holiday breakfast and get into the festive spirit. I ordered a French toast dish specifically because it was supposed to come with a fig spread. When the dish arrived, I noticed there was no fig spread and asked the server about it. He checked and then told me they were actually out of the fig spread entirely. They tried to substitute it with a berry spread instead, but that wasn’t what I ordered or was looking forward to. In the end, I chose a simple toast and jam option instead, which I was charged for. The service felt a bit disjointed; it took extra time to get that toast, and the jam wasn’t really great. Basically it was the same unsweet watery berry spread again. Then another staff member came by soon after, assuming we were done, and wanted to close out the tab. To top it off, when I mentioned the issue, the server noted, “Well, we didn’t charge you for the original dish,” which felt like a minimal courtesy since I never got to eat it. Overall, it wasn’t the experience I expected from a place with such a good reputation, and I left feeling a bit disappointed
The service was good. The food was not. They charged 2$ for a slice of toast that was 4 inches in diameter. The butter tasted cheap ans the ketchup was really gross. My daughter got the chicked sandwich that came spicy. The bread and the cheese were awful and the chicken was rubbery. She ate two bites only. The fries are also really horrible. I was very disappointed but maybe next time we will just get desserts
I recently visited the Costeaux Bakery and found it to be a delightful place until I placed my order at the counter. I watched as Edgar F. picked up my chosen pastries with his bare hands and placed them in the box. I questioned him on this & he told me he had washed his hands. Not good enough, he should have used a utensil, or worn gloves; anything but his bare hands! Makes me wonder how the food is handled in the kitchen. I won’t recommend or be frequenting this restaurant in the future. Maybe a call to the Health Dept. is in order.
No gluten free bakery items, but if you like Nutcrackers, you will love this place!
I was excited and thought that any place around here could not disappoint. The food here was awful, no taste no flavor just borderline gross. The Bloody Mary watery and the service so slow.
Really bad food, horrible service and extremely overpriced. Worst chilaquiles I have ever tasted, and the burger was completely flavorless. That plus potatoes for an app and 1 drink was over $100 somehow. Do yourself a favor and go to Acorn Cafe. I don’t understand how this place has decent reviews. Had to wait ~15 minutes for the server to come around to both place our order and to ask for the check. It was a Monday morning and was not busy.
Nothing special. Would rather go to Denny's for breakfast. At least at Denny's you leave with a full wallet and stomach. I would think at a bakery they would bring you bread for the table. They were super nice to the recently married couple seated after and next to us though. They brought them champagne and drinks before anyone even looked at my wife and I. We won't be coming back.
My husband and I live in Southern California but spend a good deal of our summers in Healdsburg. Costeaux’s Bakery is normally the first place we go when we return each year. This year was no exception but it was a very unpleasant surprise. A very good staff but not the food. It was mid-morning and they had run out of breakfast sausage and it was suggested that I order bacon or another protein such as eggs. I do not like bacon and I specifically order two eggs over easy. The biggest surprise were the French Macarons. They appear to be very old and so crunchy that they fell apart when trying to eat one. Macarons are suppose to be slightly crisp but with a soft chewy consistency. These were not. I don’t know if they have changed hands or just need a new baker.
Absolutely terrible experience at Costeux. We waited an unreasonably long time to be seated, with barely any acknowledgment from the staff. I had to ask to be seated myself. Water? We had to ask three times before it was finally brought, and still no apology or explanation. Service was impatient, dismissive, and inattentive the entire time. We ordered the bread and jam. The bread was hard, no share plates were offered, and when our appetizers arrived, no one checked in to see if everything was okay. As a result, we couldn’t get anything replaced or corrected. When our mains finally arrived, we were again not provided share plates, despite clearly stating we wanted to share. I repeatedly asked for onions for my sandwich, and only after losing my patience were they brought, again without even the slightest acknowledgment or apology. Throughout the meal, it was painfully obvious that no one at the restaurant cared about us or our experience.
My family and I have come here for years, the service has never been great but it’s gotten worse the last few visits. The server was more concerned with wiping down tables instead of seating us, we ordered three meals and two of the three were wrong. The sandwiches don’t taste the way they used too and the service isn’t great for the price. I think they rely on their loyal customers to keep this place going because there is zero effort anymore. Won’t be returning after years of being a loyal customer.
