Opinions de Café Avellaneda Higuera
It’s true they have some of the best baristas in the city. A trip here is totally worth it. Now mind you the place is tiny and there will most likely be people queuing outside under the sun. This will take some time because every cup of coffee is carefully brewed. If you’re in a hurry or looking for a super comfortable experience, this isn’t the place for you. If you’re looking for high quality coffee prepared the right way, then this place is a must.
Such a lovely cosy small cafe! Had a cappuccino and a coconut kombucha with cold brew, both very tasty! And they were served with a very delicious cookie! We had to wait a bit for our order but the service was excellent.
We tried the trago #2 cold brew which has Jamaica water and a slice of grapefruit and iced cappuccino with oat milk which came with some lavender seeds on top. Both were delicious and unique. A local recommended the Juanito cold brew to us but we didn’t get a chance to try. Despite being busy, the young lady in front took her time to explain the drinks to us which we appreciated. The bano (restroom) is tiny (as in smaller than the smallest one we saw in Japan) but clean. Highly recommend!
Coffee was excellent! One of the best americanos I’ve ever had (and I’m picky with my americano!). Incredible atmosphere!
Very artistic and bohemian vibe and clients, fantastic service and above all, amazing flat white! Certainly will be come my go-to cafe when in beautiful Coyoacan
A small café with super nice barista. My phone was almost dead and they helped me out. I ordered a caffeine-free drink because it was too late, and the barista noticed I wanted to try some coffee, so they gave me a sample! definitely will come back next time I’m in Coyoacán ☕️
Nice concept and good atmosphere. The Coffeeshop is not that big, but the offer is extraordinary. I like the fermented coffee drinks and had one with ginger infused waterkefir. Was very special, authentic and tasty. Can highly recommend. The prices are good aswell.
A wonderful coffee bar!. I had an iced Horchata, tasted a pour over, and had an espresso. The drinks are fantastic and we got to meet some locals at the bar who were also coffee enthusiasts. A must visit if you are in the neighbourhood to see the Frida Kahlo museum.
Café Avellaneda is a standout in Coyoacán’s coffee scene, offering a cozy and intimate atmosphere that coffee aficionados will appreciate. Their Geisha filtered coffee, prepared using the V60 method, is a highlight—delivering a delicate, floral, and tea-like profile that’s both complex and refreshing. The baristas demonstrate exceptional skill and passion, ensuring each cup is crafted to perfection. Located near the Frida Kahlo Museum, it’s the perfect spot to relax and savor a meticulously prepared brew. Whether you’re a seasoned coffee enthusiast or just exploring specialty coffees, Café Avellaneda’s Geisha filter is a must-try experience.
Very nice specialty coffee in a smaller area of CDMX. The establishment is quite small but they probably don't see big groups coming at once. The seating however is conducive to meeting and speaking to new people. The environment definitely makes you feel like you're in a small neighborhood bar with friends. The staff are kind and knowledgeable with a good selection of beans.
I heard a lot of praise about this coffee bar so I decided to go here. I have been 3 times in the past month. First of all because it is so good, but also because I was intrigued by the range of cold brews. The coffee bar is located near the center of Coyoacan , a very nice neighborhood in the city. The coffee bar is very small with barely room to sit. There are some bar stools and there is also a bench against the wall. With a bit of luck you can also sit outside on the sidewalk. That is it. But I like the place, it's cozy with a nice bar counter. And, worth mentioning, with a very good choice of music. But I came for the coffee and it is excellent. The presentation is perfect and neat, with a glass of water. What struck me, however, was the wide choice of cold drinks, with coffee as the main ingredient (cold brew cocktails, as it were). The menu of these cold brews changes every month. For example, last December there was a choice of a cocktail called 'cascara soda', which consists of a cold brew, kombucha, mandarine and mineral water. Or how about the 'Trago 2' which consists of cold brew, kefir de jamaica, ginger and orange. I thought they were all very tasty and excellent. Highly recommended to come here for this cold brews.
Tiny café in Coyoacán which is somewhat removed from the saturated third wave zones closer to the city center. The best thing about it is it seemed to be the spot where locals meet up to have a cafecito, as it had spilled out onto the sidewalk and street when we visited. Had a simple espresso / flat white. Both were good.
This wonderful and unassuming coffee shop became part of our daily routine during our week long stay in the area. Met a few interesting folks who helped us bridge the language gap. Coming from a city with many local roasters (Victoria BC), we were really pleased when a local recommendation to visit this place was right on target. Bought some coffee to enjoy back home and share with some of our barista friends.

Cafe Avellaneda is home to some of the friendliest baristas I've had the pleasure of meeting in CDMX. Despite its small size, the cafe offers high-quality coffee and exceptional service thanks to its three friendly baristas. Although I'm not a coffee drinker, I tried their house chai with lactose-free milk. What makes their chai unique is the use of leftover coffee beans in the preparation, resulting in a flavor that is both intriguing and cozy. This approach sets it apart from other chais I've had. However, the real highlight of Cafe Avellaneda is its baristas. They are warm and hospitable and provide impeccable service, which elevates the entire experience. Additionally, each drink comes with a glass of water and a small wafer, which adds a thoughtful touch to your visit. Overall, Cafe Avellaneda is one of the most popular coffee spots in Mexico City, and it's easy to see why.
Super cute artisanal coffee shop that specializes in pour over using coffee beans from Mexico. The presentation is beautiful, your coffee is poured into glazed ceramics; and the ambience is lovely. I was there for an hour and only saw locals come in. They also offer small pastries, espresso type drinks, and a bag of beans to bring home. Prices are awesome.
A wonderful little cafe with specialty espresso drinks and non-coffee drinks. I’m usually not into espresso mixes but the horchata espresso changed my mind. GET IT. The Verda jugos was also prime, not too sweet with good body from the nopales. They topped it off with warm and friendly service. I’m definitely coming back.
good coffee the staff really knows what they're selling they are super nice and helpful also sell different coffee beans (Oaxaca) the place is tiny, but worth trying
We visited for lunch in this tiny cosy cafe run by a young couple It was absolutely rush hour and for some time the woman worked alone in the very small space She managed to receive multiple orders and work steady in a positive atmosphere The food was delicious, tasty and cheap We recommend the place for a good cup of coffee or a nice lunch Søren og Anne
Really amazing coffee, hole in the wall kind of place. This is a very popular spot. Busy all day! Cool for hanging out at the coffee bar while you sip your coffee. *They do not have decaf btw*.

We enjoyed a delicious espresso or two from the good choices at this charming café. There was a steady flow of regulars chatting comfortably with the baristas.
Small and quiet place to have coffee. There are only a few tables inside but they have toilet too so that's quite thoughtful. I only tried their coffee and they made it quite fast. If you're more into the acidic type of coffee, you would like this. It's also quite strong so it's definitely going to give you that boost if you need it.

One of the most interesting chais I've ever had. They make their ls with coffee shells. They let me smell and it has a sweet, fruity smell like the raw coffee berry. They also put black tea and other things. It was really good...almost like having a decaf coffee. One of the bad things about this spot is that it is so small.
Pull and filter brew had similar characteristics. Smooth, but poor extraction of flavor. Many people recommend coming here for some of the best coffee in cdmx, but this was mid. Go to almanegra, specificially the one in roma.

A very small but excellent cafe. Recommended at the reception desk at our guest house. There are not many places to sit. Excellent coffee , we also tried a lemon and pistachio biscuit

Such a good coffee! The service was bad but the beverage was tasty. If you are looking for the experience like a Starbucks this is not this kind of place.

I dropped into this place really looking forward to the experience, and left wondering how a team of nearly eight people behind the bar can collectively forget the most basic rule of hospitality: be hospitable. From the moment I walked in, there was no greeting, no eye contact, no acknowledgment that a guest had arrived.. just staff talking among themselves and moving mechanically through orders. When someone finally took my order, it felt rushed and transactional, like I was an interruption rather than the reason the place exists. What makes it more frustrating is that the coffee itself was good; whoever is sourcing and roasting clearly knows what they’re doing. But great coffee loses its magic when it’s handed across the bar by people who can’t be bothered to smile, explain, or show even a minimal interest in the guest standing in front of them. I kept wondering if it’s a generational self obsession thing… not that it’s an excuse Needless to say… I won’t be back.

The service is really bad. We ordered iced Americano ahead of a few customers but then the barrista keeps serving coffee to customers behind us until we ask for the ice americano again. The coffee is good just not the service.
