The marsallo chicken and carrots and the grilled cheese sandwich is wonderful. The table bread is great. Service is good no complaints about the restaurant.
I am a Italian food lover. Therefore, I was pretty excited when I found this place in Hillsborough. Today (Sept.3, 2022) was my first time coming here. I loved the atmosphera and I can imagine how cozy it feels at evening and whem weather is cooler. The waitresses were very attemptive. I ordered a carpaccio (forgot to take pics ughhh!). Then, Fettuccini with Shrimp in Al Antonia sauce. I enjoyed every bite of it. I also ordered the lavender cosmo (I am a cocktails' explorer). I skip the dessert because ate too much. But I side viewed what the neighboors from the other table ordered, and let me tell you they look great! I suggest this place for a date. :)
We had brunch, and it was delicious. The coffee was awesome. Our waiter was really nice. We sat outside on a beautiful day. We will go back again. It's an hour ride for us.
Stopped in on the way to Virginia from the airport. Service was wonderful and food was even better. They had a great wine and bourbon selection. Pasta is house made and delicious. Such a gem! Make reservations as they fill up fast
Amazing restaurant!! The food was fabulous with something for the vegetarians, vegans, no carb, and meat eaters in our group. The food alone would warrant a five star rating but the warm and accommodating nature of the staff was outstanding. Our family was out for a hike nearby and trying to find a place that could accommodate eight. Seeing that Antonia's closed at 2:00 and it was 1:15, we called first and were welcomed to come by. We never felt rushed and had fabulous service. I could go on and on. From the olive oil that came with our bread to the soup, salads, pasta, and meatballs our family had, every bite was fabulous. I can't wait to visit again!!
I planned a 70th birthday party for my husband. Oh my goodness they were amazing and accommodated a lot. Best place for breakfast on Sunday, dinner, and bar specials.
This is the best Italian food I've ever eaten. The staff was very welcoming and very speedy in replacing the water. The bread was sooo fresh and delicious. The food was perfect and I couldn't have asked for anything better. I got a cheese ball on top and it tasted like it was fresh made just then. The owner came out to say hi to us and pet our dog and I loved it. The atmosphere was perfect and i could relax. Everything about the experience was amazing.
I was that person yesterday, asking to be seated 15 minutes before they closed between lunch and dinner. But my diabetic MIL was about to pass out and needed food. They quickly brought us bread and the service was excellent despite being past closing. AND the food was delicious. Great vibes all around. We will definitely be back!
The food was delicious. I appreciated the fact that you could get half portions which were plenty. The service was very good
We visited Antonia's recently for my husband's birthday - we were looking for a place that was casual while still feeling special, and this was perfect! They have both indoor and outdoor seating (we chose outdoors since it was a lovely evening). I had noted on the reservation that it was a birthday, and our table had a little Happy Birthday notecard on it, and they treated my delighted husband to a complimentary serving of their scrumptious gelato. He had their halibut dish (loved it) and I had a half serving of their homemade fettucine with cream sauce, meatballs and burrata cheese (OH MY GOSH, SO GOOD). But our favorite out of everything were the bacon deviled eggs we shared as a starter. The whole staff was lovely and so friendly - special shout-out to our server Kayla, who was so funny and nice. We will definitely be coming back!
I took my mother to Antonio's for Mother's Day. This was our first visit. We are new to the area and hoping to find a good Italian restaurant that we can enjoy when we want to eat out. The restaurant was a little crowded and a little loud, however, the staff was great and the food was amazing. There was a problem with my card being incorrectly charged. However the owner Brian quickly resolved it beyond my satisfaction.
Oh my..... such wonderful Pasta choices!!! The pasta is homemade. You can tell they pay attention to details. I totally enjoyed the Spaghetti al Salsa di Vongole- full- Spaghetti with minced and whole clams, white wine, garlic, tomatoes, and lemon. My husband loved the Fresh Fettucine with Beef Tips House made fettucine, tenderloin tips, mushrooms, red onions, and spinach, tossed in a red wine garlic cream sauce. Something for everyone!!
A great local place for Italian food! I have been going here for years and its always been great. The menu changes seasonally but there's always something good. Accommodations can be made for vegetarians which is good as well. The staff are always friendly and attentive too. Antonia's has some of the best grilled salmon I have ever had so definitely worth trying.
We had a delicious meal last night! We tried a few of the mocktails to start- which were delicious- and then the bread and olive oil was a great start to the meal. We ordered a variety of pastas and lasagna, and I ordered the salad special with salmon- the salmon was seasoned and cooked perfectly! Highly recommend.
I really like this restaurant in downtown Hillsborough! Chicken breast with pearl couscous and vegetables were the best I ever had! Very welcoming atmosphere. Definitely yes.
Food was amazing. Mary my server was busy but went above and beyond to make sure the experience was perfect.
My guest and I had a pleasant evening. The host greeted us at the door to assist with the exterior step, and walked us to a table she selected, based on our needs. Our server Abraham was patient and informative. Our cocktails were creative and refreshing. The support staff are friendly and attentive. Different young people provided bread and olive oil, served our courses, cleared plates, and replaced cutlery. Each person was happy and genuine, and contributed to the tone of our evening. Antonia's is a busy, well-run, and happy place. Dined Wed Aug 14
Every time we have eaten here it’s always been a wonderful experience, the food is always delicious, the pasta is definitely fresh, the Tiramisu was AMAZING!! Every server we have had was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly…it’s the perfect place for every occasion!
Had a really nice dinner here! Our waitress was fantastic and had great recommendations. We tried the olive plate which was actually a really large portion (took half of it home for the next day). The bread and oil that go with it are both great. My wife had the butternut squash manicotti which she said was one of the best variations of that she has ever had. I had salmon which was good but pretty standard issue. Tiramisu was also excellent and actually get a fairly large piece.
Last minute dinner after a school concert. We had never dined here before the steak Tarte was absolutely delicious. Along with the mussel starter. I would return for those two items alone! They were very accommodating to my 4 year old even making her butter noodles with cheese.. We are a large family of 6 everyone enjoyed the meal! Would recommend.
Really feel like they put in the effort for excellence in all categories.
Great service, never rushed, really enjoyed to trout dinner and mussels were wonderful not to mention the crusty bread with exceptionally good olive oil and fresh pepper to dip. We were there past closing and the staff really seemed to enjoy working together as a team. They did not rush us and surprised us with a commentary delicious desert to celebrate our 40th anniversary .
On a visit to Hillsborough today, we stopped at a great Italian restaurant called Antonia’s. The food is excellent!! Our server Kyle was prompt, efficient and very personable. The owner, Bryan, was very accommodating and has created a nice leisurely ambiance in his restaurant. Obviously, a lot of people who live in Hillsborough agree with my assessment. The restaurant was packed. We will definitely visit again when we are back in Hillsborough!
Review: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (5/5) My wife and I had a wonderful dinner at this authentic Italian restaurant. From the moment we walked in, the warm ambiance and inviting aroma set the perfect tone for the evening. The food was delicious – fresh ingredients, rich flavors, and truly traditional Italian preparation. What made our experience even more special was the service. A big shoutout to Mary, our waitress, who was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely warm. She made us feel welcome and ensured everything was perfect throughout our meal. Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for an authentic Italian dining experience with top-notch service!
The food was excellent. Enough options without too many to be overwhelmed. We're from central NY and can't get great Italian bread except here! They infuse their own dipping oil & it's delicious. You can also purchase some. Homemade pasta is always perfect. What a difference in taste. Definitely won't be disappointed coming here.
I went there as a guest for a rehearsal dinner with about 40 quest. They did an excellent job of keeping everything moving. There were multiple hors d'oeuvres being passed around and glasses were kept filled. I had a grilled salmon that was perfect. The staff did a great job and everyone really seemed to enjoy themselves!
Perfect date night spot- menu is just right and the food and drinks were amazing. Grab a table outside if the weather is nice!
Hillsborough is a charming town. A place you definitely want to visit in your lifetime. But even if you knew nothing of the green, rolling hills and quaint town.. it would be worth visiting just for Antonia's. I need to lower all my previous 5 stats to 4's to give Antonia's the rating it serves.
Loved this restaurant! Great service, with a home-y feel and real aesthetic charm. The food was flavorful and the wait-staff was knowledgeable and pleasant. Will definitely go back next time I have an itch for italian in Hillsborough
Amazing food. I had the Costoletta Di Maiale Ripiena (Stuffed 'thick cut' Pork Chop) that was seasoned and cooked to perfection! (And I don't say perfection often.) Service was great, and outside dining in the fall in charming downtown Hillsborough, with other friendly diners really made it such a pleasant dining experience. I will be back.
My First Lunch In Hillsborough & It Was FANTASTIC! From The Bread To The Cannoli. It Was Amazing. So Delicious. Thank Y’all For A Wonderful Experience. I Will Be Back. I Am The New Community Manager At Bellevue Mill, So I Will Be Back! Thanks Again. God Bless.
Oh my, we had a blast. My mother and my sister stopped in for lunch. Superb service and food was very tasty. Cozy and elegant cheers
Went for the first time on a Saturday at lunch. We had 5 of us that included my in laws, my husband, and our toddler. Mary (I think that was her name), our server, was top notch. Perfect level of attentiveness, especially when you're trying to keep a 3 year old occupied. Food choices were really expansive for a lunch menu, and prices were reasonable and portions very generous. Just a very comfortable neighborhood restaurant. Looking forward to going back!
What a hidden gem. Probably should keep to myself. Great location Free parking lot behind the building Architectural charm and intimate tables without being too isolated. Both the Manager, our waitress Denise and the young man assisting her were personable, knew the menu and gave great suggestions. Loved the Tuscan Chicken and Sausage Stew. We devoured the mussels in the delicious cream sauce. Enjoyed the bread spread, salads, cocktail (Painkiller) and pasta dishes. I really appreciate that they have half size portions because I always have leftovers. For dessert we enjoyed the Oreo cookie dish and key lime pie. This will be our new go to place for fabulous Italian food. Come early, it gets busy after 6pm on Sunday.
absolutely delicious. The flavors were remarkable. The service was great. I only gave the atmosphere four stars just because we didn’t dine inside – we chose to sit out on a picnic bench. But I can’t wait to come back here again.
This restaurant was referred to me by a family member. Food service and atmosphere were excellent even though we had a large party we were very taken care of quickly and very well. The lasagna was very good but they had a mushroom bacon soup that I will call ahead to make sure they have it was so good. Will be back again if not for the Mushroom bacon soup alone.
What a wonderful place to enjoy a nice Italian dinner. The service was excellent. My waitress was very knowledgeable. The food was outstanding. I had the pasta special which was a large plate of spaghetti with sun-dried tomatoes, artichoke hearts, a wonderful sauce, and more. I also enjoyed a nice glass of montepulciano and a terrific Caesar salad. Bread and olive oil with crushed pepper was included too.
The pork belly for an appetizer was surprisingly flavorful (I’m not a pork fan)! My chicken with asparagus meal was prepared well, tasted good! My date ordered chicken pasta, also tasted fabulous! We weren’t expecting the serving of brownie dessert with a scoop of ice cream to be as large as it was! 😆 It was both our favorite part of the experience at Antonia’s! I definitely recommend you give this spot a try!
Pretty decent breakfast, and good for dinner! I would say it is definitely a solid 4 ⭐️ star for Hillsborough, but relative to something in a bigger city, a 3 ⭐️. The service is friendly and accommodating, and the food is generally good! The French toast was delicious and the eggs Benedict was good, the hashbrowns were below average. Coffee was also pretty decent, we got a salted caramel latte. The omelette was a great omelette! It’s been a while since we’ve been here for dinner, but when we had, I believe we got the fillet and then one of the pastas, and it was great for Hillsborough, probably 5 ⭐️.
The service was so good and friendly. I personally was not a fan of the pasta, it was over cooked and lacked a lot of flavor. The dessert was was really good. I enjoyed dinning outside, perfect little town to enjoy outside dinning in.
Atmosphere is welcoming and the staff take great care of you, are prompt, courteous. The bar is extensive as far as selection and there are special libations that looked yummy although i didnt try. The bread/olive oil was great! Could have made a meal of that. The Caesar salad was fresh, crisp, but lacked flavor. Need a better dressing as the one they use had no taste. The meatball panini was sufficient, meatballs were tasty but the sandwich was somewhat soggy. The tomato sauce was minimal. I expected a robust sauce. Plenty of cheese.
The food and drinks were good, especially as the only authentic Italian restaurant in downtown Hillsborough. Food came out quickly, ambiance was nice for a date night, and wait staff was very attentive. The only thing that bothered me is that when I asked to be seated outside (where there were copious tables and the restaurant was not particularly busy), the hostess insisted that we sit inside and we had an odd interaction about it that felt unnecessary, then it seemed like she was listening to us talk about it from the hostess stand (she came back over with the waitress 10 minutes later to re-hash this odd interaction). Nothing was ever impolite or unprofessional, just a weird experience that will keep me from returning.
We went there for my wife’s birthday. The mussels were excellent. They were an appetizer but a very large portion. They would great as an entree served with linguine. There fettuccine is homemade but was too heavy for us. The brownie served in a small cast iron skillet is delicious.
Food is good although they were having trouble with their soft drink machine. Pasta was perfectly al dente. Free dessert on your birthday! Service was stellar. It's a small space so can be a little on the loud side.
Really enjoyed lunch here last week. A lovely sunny spot outside on a sinters day with a beautiful house salad and chicken. Friends ordered other dishes from the menu and they were all lovely and generous portions. The bread on arrival was so fresh and complimented perfectly with the oils provided. Unfortunately I cant recall the name of our server but she was super friendly and helpful. Will be back.
First off, the food here is incredible, with a number of pasta options and additional entrees. We thought the half-portions were plenty, and brought some leftovers home. The salads are great as well. Our service was a bit ... confusing. Olga was great, but we had a couple of other wait staff involved with our table of four, including one who was a bit crabby. The hostess, whose name I did not get, was also very nice. The building is historic, as is most of Hillsborough, and there is a choice of inside or outside seating.
Good brunch experience on Sunday. The menu is quite extensive and the food was tasty. I don't typically quibble over prices when the meal is otherwise on point, but $5 for coffee and $4.50 for tea (tea bag and a small pot of hot water) is pushing it even for me. Service was excellent.
First time visiting Hillsborough, beautiful 18th century quaint town. Chose Antonia’s for brunch and it was nice, great service, my favorite-limited menu options so it’s easy to choose from. We had Florentine Benedict and Italian sausages & eggs paired with Shirley temple & mimosa. Enjoyed Benedict more than sausage & ambience was perfect with indoor/outdoor seating.
This was a nice break in the work day, met with a potential partner and we did small plates with a bottle of my favorite champagne! 🍾 Our server was very attentive and kind (we asked lots of questions and had to have stemmed wine glasses)🥂 The flavors in each dish was just right, it was all very "delicioso"
Our server and the atmosphere were superb. UPDATE -Upon returning home, I started eating the leftover manicotti di pollo e spinach a la vodka and bit down on either a bone fragment or hard piece of cartilage most likely from the chicken in the manicotti. No more 5 star review for the food.
When we arrived for our New Year's Eve reservations the place was buzzing, in a good way. However, the table we were seated at was right next to the door so it was cold the entire night. We voiced our concern but the server said, honestly, it will warm up while you're here. Well, it didn't, and once we were situated we didn't want to pick up and wait/move for a table to open up. We were a party of four and two of the dishes arrived before the others. We had to wait several minutes before the other two came out. Food was good but not stellar. With so many dining options available, I'm not sure I'll be back.
I was really looking forward to having brunch here. The service was very good, the deviled eggs were fantastic, drinks were good although not sure how much actual champagne or Prosecco was in the carafe of Mimosas. It will unfortunately be a negative experience in my mind as the Crab cake Eggs Benedict was one of the worst dishes I’ve ever been served in a restaurant. Extremely salty, and I think it was canned crab. It was a fishy and mushy mess. Unlike any crabcake I’ve ever seen. Quite frankly, I wouldn’t have called it a crabcake in any way. The dish was inedible in my opinion. I should’ve sent it back. I would go back and try a different dish, but I’m baffled how anybody orders that one and actually enjoys it.
My experience with this restaurant was filled with disappointment regarding a recent dining experience at Antonia’s establishment on 1/24/25. While I understand that restaurants can experience periods of high volume, the service and quality of food we received fell significantly short of expectations, particularly considering the price point. Upon arrival, we encountered a noticeable delay in receiving even basic table settings, and the initial interaction with the hostess was unfortunately less than welcoming. Furthermore, our food arrived after a 25-minute wait, a timeframe that I believe is excessive. To compound the issue, the pasta was undercooked, and the Focaccia bread served was burnt. Given the high standards I associate with this restaurant, I felt compelled to make this review. I hope management see this review and take appropriate measures to address these shortcomings and maintain the consistently high level of quality your patrons expect.
My first time dining here. Staff is very friendly and attentive. Wide menu selection. No kids menu but you can ask for kid size portions. I had Chicken Marsala. It was well cooked. For quantity of food the meal was far overpriced. My plate had one small half breast and 1 side of grilled vegetables for $17.50. At that price I expected 2 pieces of chicken or at least an extra side, pasta would have been nice.
I’ve eaten here twice recently (but have been coming on and off for years) as my teen loves the ragú pasta. Some dishes are good, but what is disappointing is that there’s a lot of variation in the quality of the food. The grilled salmon is consistently good and the Caesar salad is decent. However, my wife had an inedible soup last night, followed by a twice baked potato that was also pretty bad. When we told our waiter about the soup, intending to get something else, they said the manager would come talk to us. She never showed up and the waiter took a long time to follow up with us. You’d think in this situation, they’d be more attentive. The previous time we came, they messed up our order and it took nearly an hour to get served and they didn’t even keep us apprised of the progress. So I really want to like this local restaurant, but it too often disappoints.
While it’s a cute downtown restaurant the food did not impress. The special salad was drowning in dressing (less is more), the lasagna was good however the sauce was very spicy and the Alfredo was my least favorite. The sauce wasn’t thickened enough and lacked cheese, the noodles were dense and thick and not cooked long enough in my opinion, wine selection and bread were the best parts of the meal. Also service was great.
Food all has an overly grilled taste. My entire party felt the same way. Salmon was great but all other meats tasted burnt. Very pricey.
We were a party of 5 and were seated outside in one of the picnic tables. We ordered a Caprese salad and it was served with micro basil. Totally missed the mark as micro basil added no flavor to this traditional salad. We all had pasta main dishes and, to a person, the feedback was the meals were lacking in flavor. I had the pasta with vodka sauce and sausage but it was underwhelming. Not enough spice in the sauce and the sausage was mediocre. All that said the service was great and attentive.
While we have had good experiences at Antonia’s in the past, today changed our feelings about the restaurant moving forward. I can forgive the slightly undercooked rigatoni, one side of the table receiving their entrees ten minutes before the other, and the $10 butter noodles served to the kids. What I didn’t appreciate was the attitude towards customer service by our server. While our group of eleven was served a complimentary bread course, when we asked for a refill we were told that they were running low on bread but they could perhaps serve one basket (but he was super reluctant to offer it). Furthermore, when asked to split the items from the bill amongst the four parties we were told that was not an option. I was shocked. It turned a birthday celebration into an accounting exercise. I unfortunately do not suggest this restaurant for groups.
I liked the energy inside the restaurant, but unfortunately the food was pretty mediocre. Lacked a fullness of flavor, the Caesar salad was especially sad.
Food arrived very late, although they offered a free desert as a result of that without any complaints on our part. The sandwich I had was like a deli bought sandwich, nothing special about it. The best part of the food was the initial warm bread with olive oil.
The food was ok and the drinks were just basic bar drinks. A little bit disappointed where they seated us on our anniversary. Steak was plain but fiancé said she liked it. Waiter was super nice very attending but overall 3/5.
I attended as a member of a large group so YMMV. The food was a mixed bag. Great crostini (but the bread should have been thicker and less cracker-like), good Chicken and Bacon Chowder (but the thyme must have been dried; there was a musty off-note). The special salad was good, but mine was drenched in m dressing. (When I want a quart of oil, I'll get it at the auto store.) Other things on the menu looked good. I'll try them again sometime.
We ate as a large party for a birthday, and as beautiful as the space was, it was overall a disappointing experience. The service was extremely slow and lots of items and requests were forgotten. The appetizer was a stand out, simple and elegant crostinis, but the special was luke warm and sadly didn't have the flavor of gorgonzola as promised. I might try again to see if a smaller table for two got better results, amd maybe stick to the menu items.
The hosting staff seemed super new and unprepared. We arrived at 5 pm as a party of 4 and the restaurant was empty but they made us sit outside since they had reservations for 7pm and were “afraid” we would take up those spots. It was a super hot day to make people sit outside. Food was okay. I got the tomato vodka fettuccine and sausage. I enjoyed my meal. Long story short make reservations even if it is a Wednesday early evening meal. The portion sizes were large so that a nice bonus
I wanted to love this place but sadly I couldn't get past some of the challenges with the taste of the food and the way it was served. We sat outside which is lovely. The restaurant is situated in the quaint Hillsborough downtown. Perfect to enjoy the weather and a glass of Rose. Our waitress, Brook, was attentive and took great care of us. The food runner even brought ice water for our puppy. The challenges started with the appetizers. We ordered a Ceasar salad (anchovies on the side) and smoked paprika deviled eggs with caviar and dill. The Ceasar salad was large and the dressing was very good. The $4 side of anchovies was sad, the filets were nonexistent, it was more of pieces of anchovies. The deviled eggs looked great but the filling was so salty we couldn't eat them. I understand caviar is salty, but this wasnt the caviar, it was the filling itself. 5 come to an order, we left 3 on the plate, inedible. Next we tried the pork meatball appetizer with truffle cream sauce. The meatballs were fantastic but the truffle sauce was so salty I couldn't taste anything but salt. Again inedible... next we tried the hand pulled chicken sandwich with a side of putanesca rigatoni. The sandwich had a substantial amount of chicken and was the tastiest item we tried. The putanesca was too salty to eat. The rigatoni was broken and presented very poorly. All in all, if the chef adjusts the salt in the dishes, this restaurant has potential.
Did not like their food, not tasty at all. They had good salad, though. I've been there 3 times, ordered different things, spaghetti was undercooked, the other two dishes were not tasty. I have no idea why they have 4.4 tbh. Maybe their brunch is good, the dinner nope especially if you love Italian food!
We were excited to try this place after reading all the great reviews, but left very disappointed. My husband and I both ordered spaghetti with meatballs because when you go to a great restaurant, you should be able to order a simple dish and it turns out amazing, right? That was far from true. Our meatballs were flavorless and the tomato sauce was so watered down we basically had spaghetti soup. Giving them two stars because my Lavender Lemonade was delicious and so was their bread.
I'm somewhat flabbergasted. We arrived on time for our reserved 5:30pm Valentines dinner at Antonias. We had booked well in advance. The dinner was very nice. A set menu was offered at $89 per person with excellent cuisine options. Our only complaint (which we did not share) was a two top corner table to accommodate three which was far too tight to accommodate bread, appetizers, etc for three. Even with the table top juggling of dishes and glassware, the meal was lovely. The service was solid. We enjoyed a nice glass of wine, a lovely glass of complimentary prosecco, and at 7:10pm we were presented a check (we had been seated at 5:32 according to our meal receipt). We completed the credit card payment and were preparing to leave...full, happy, with a positive experience on a special occasion. Our credit card payment was dated and timed as 7:13pm. Not 5 minutes had passed from the processing of the check when a woman showed up tableside (specifically at 7:17pm) telling us she had a party of six waiting outside and they needed our two top table to go with the two tables adjacent to us (customers who had been seated before our arrival and had just left) to accommodate them. It was the first time I can recall being nicely told to please leave a nice restaurant, much less within five minutes of processing a check that was also paid within five minutes of presentation. Let's be clear...Antonias is not a McDonald's though the way this was handled certainly seems like a fast food approach. Do you push your customers out the door in less than 5 minutes of processing the check on a special occasion night costing over $300 for three? We assured her we were about to leave anyway, not desiring to create a scene at the table, but several customers took note. When we left the dining room I stopped to speak with this woman to let her know how an otherwise lovely evening ended on such a rude customer service experience. I then learned this woman was the manager. Utterly shocked to learn that such poor customer interaction came from the very person responsible for the restaurant, I expressed my disappointment and dissatisfaction at the handling of the situation...a situation that was in no way caused by our lingering too long at a table after being presented a check. She apologized for the "perception" of rushing us out but she was worried about the table of six waiting outside. As an aside, there were several open tables by then (7:20 pm). I suggested this was horrific customer service and hoped she would never do it to someone again. She responded that sometimes it is necessary. Well it is not necessary for my family to continue to frequent Antonias. A sad ending to an otherwise nice evening, and a sad ending to my patronage of a Hillsborough establishment. You have competition, Antonias. Perhaps you have forgotten that your customers have other dining choices within steps of you.
I am sorry to say that I had a terrible experience at Antonia’s. We ordered take out for my family after kayaking all day. I was told it would be ready in 45 minutes. I arrived and it was not ready. Fifteen minutes later I asked how long and they said another hour. I had already paid and asked to cancel. They told me they could not cancel my order and issue a refund to me - a manager came and said only the owner can do that and it would be mid next week. Two hours to prepare a takeout order and unable to refund did not work for me. So I insisted. After another 20 minutes they figured out how to void my order. But that put me at almost 9:00pm with no dinner for my hungry family. There were no grown ups in sight- the whole restaurant seemed to be run by prepubescent teens.
It was not crowded, but our service was poor. We had to wait 15 minutes between the time my friend got her meal and I got my meal. Then the waiter forgot things that we asked for and had to be reminded. This restaurant came highly recommended so I expected more. The food was good nevertheless.
If I could give “0” stars, I would!! We made lunch reservations for Mother’s Day for 4, made over a week in advance. Drove from High Point to meet family in the pouring rain and when we were to be seated, they walked us outside to a soaked picnic table in the rain for “our table”. Never asking if we wanted to eat outside. Website says “heated patio” —needless to say we did not stay. They offered no apology or explanation only that they couldn’t give us any other table! We walked down to Los Altos which was an excellent Mexican restaurant with great service!! BEWARE!!
Be aware that the guy who seats you is on a mission to sell water. He asked if we wanted sparkling water and I replied that tap water was fine. He brought us a bottle of still water and we were billed 7.00 for it. We were seated at a table for 2 very, very close to the next table for 2. We were both bumped by wait staff at least 5 or 6 times because they couldn't get around these tables to get to other tables when coming out of the kitchen without bumping us. The chicken in the chicken parmesan was so tough that I could barely chew it. I have never had chicken breast that tough! We asked if we could substitute pasta in place of the rice and vegetables and the waitress said "sure." She didn't mention that there was a 3.50 upcharge per plate and they left off not only the rice but the vegetables too. The linguini was all stuck together so it was chewy and not cooked thoroughly. There was hardly any marina sauce on the pasta. On a positive note, the bread was good and the salmon was well cooked. The waitress was friendly and attentive and did her job.
A continuation of terrible service. I have been here multiple times, food is good, service is not. Today at lunch, our waiter was also the bartender. He was clearly not interested in taking care of our table. Very frustrating. Don’t order the crème brûlée. Ours was inedible, burnt on the top. I would have sent it back, but we never saw our waiter/bartender again. Such a bad experience for a very nice location.
Not authentic Italian — promising atmosphere, disappointing food and service. Atmosphere: A+ The dining room and outdoor seating are lovely, with a great ambiance. Service: 1 star Staff seemed annoyed I asked to look at a menu, walked away. Server didn’t check back after the food arrived. The service felt disengaged and inattentive. People need water or more wine! As a first-generation Italian American who has eaten in Italy and in many authentic Italian homes and American Italian restaurants, I found the food very disappointing and with a high price tag. I also make fresh Italian pasta and sausage and sausage. It’s safe to say I know good Italian and was taught by old Italian women. Food: 0 stars The red sauce was thin and flavorless — more like watered-down soup than a proper tomato sauce. The “homemade” pasta arrived broken, overcooked, and tasting like leftovers rather than fresh pasta. The meatballs were the only passable item, however, could have used a tad more flavor. Chipotle Alfredo: too hot to enjoy The Chipotle Alfredo was overwhelmingly spicy; the smoky idea could work, but the heat completely destroyed the dish. There should be a menu warning — we missed the “chipotle” descriptor while focusing on “Alfredo.” Wine: overpriced and underpoured Portions were very small and inconsistent between glasses. A couple of sips and done! Constructive suggestions - A classic Italian tomato sauce should be rich and thick — use San Marzano tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil, onion, garlic, fresh basil, tomato paste, and black pepper. I also like adding shallots and a long carrot slice to balance acidity (remove the carrot before serving). - If you advertise “homemade” pasta, make it truly fresh and cooked properly. Consider serving hand-formed shapes like gnocchi, cavatelli, or orecchiette that showcase fresh pasta better than fragile shapes. I hope the restaurant takes this feedback and others with like comments to heart — the atmosphere shows potential, but both the kitchen and the service need improvement.
