Opinions de Old House Cafe Iraan
Very good small town eatery. Food tastes home made and it's got texas all over it.
Busy place this afternoon! Several tables taken when we arrived, and a lot of to-go orders heading out the door so we had a little bit of a wait for the food. But the people were friendly and the food was definitely worth the wait. There were 6 of us so we had a little bit of everything...Italian, pizza, chicken fried steak, steak fingers, burger, fried pickles, mozzarella sticks... Portions were ample and food was great! We ended up here because we were coming through on the interstate and didn't see any options in Sheffield. The kids were probably looking at me funny when I said we're going 15 miles off the freeway, but they weren't complaining after we were done!
Really good lunch stop. We stopped for lunch on our way through. The cafe is simple but clean. The menu has a little of everything: American, Italian, Mexican. My husband had the Mushroom Swiss Burger and enjoyed it. I have some medically required food restrictions which have been a problem in some restaurants but not here. The cook/chef made some suggestions and they ended up creating a unique dish just for me, sort of a teriyaki chicken and vegetables. It was very good. The chicken was very tender and juicy; a pleasant change from the chicken I often get when eating out. The prices are not cheap but certainly reasonable. I will likely stop here again on my next trip this way. I recommend it to you as well.
Heard about this place from another business. Came to taste their catfish. Between two of us, got the grilled and the fried. I let the server pick the seasoning and sides. The grilled catfish was very moist, and I could taste the catfish not just overpowering seasoning. The fries catfish, being Cajun was not too spicy and very lightly fried, again I could taste the catfish not just the spice of the seasoning. Our appetizer was the quest and dip. It was very cheesy, normally you get more. Hips than quest, here I had to ask for more chips because there was so much queso. I can’t wait to come back and try the other dishes.
Traveled through Iraan. Stopped and ordered lunch buffet. All home cooked food. Chopped Steak with mushroom/onion gravy, stewed beef, catfish, enchiladas, rice, mashed potatoes, green beans plus salad bar and tea for $15. Excellent meal.
Nice little salad bar with fresh vegetables. Great chicken fried steak! Easily top 10 in my book. Very good mashed potatoes with it. They really care about their food *and* their customers. Good service.
I love the locals' places in small towns, but this is different. I grew up out here and hold a higher standard. When I visit, I want it to be great. I wasn't disappointed. Here for 8 days, ate at least once a day here. Enough variety to keep us coming. Specials were great and well thought out. Check it out; try it out. Tell them I said hey!
This place has the best food in town, and some of the best food, in general. The friendliest staff, and a very calm and welcoming atmosphere. True talent in the kitchen.
Amazing staff with a family operated vibe. I had the buffet and tried a little bit of almost everything, was not disappointed. Staff was attentive and prices were very reasonable. If you ever find yourself in the small town of Iraan, TX be sure to stop here for lunch!
Rolled into this small town and found this place after the hotel clerk recommended it. The food was great and hot! Waitress suggested the steak fingers so I went with it. If you are in the area do yourself a favor and eat here.
This place is wonderful! Perfect for people just traveling through (like me), or seasoned locals. They have great food, fantastic prices, and awesome burgers. If you're near, stop by and have a bite!
Haven't found anything on the menu that I have not liked. The steaks are lean and thick just like I like them. The staff and cooks are always friendly and glad to see you . Overall good meal for a decent price.
This is a very good place to eat. I ordered the Mushroom Swiss Burger and it was amazing! The buns were really soft and the patty was huge. Will definitely come back!
Bar none best club sandwich I have ever eaten. Very thick sliced juicy turkey and ham, bread toasted to perfection and the bacon was crispy but not crunchy fresh lettuce and tomato. Paired with waffle cut sweet potato fries. A glass of iced tea with just enough sugar to knock off the bitterness. Served to us by a beautiful friendly young lady who very promptly accommodated to our every request. Looking forward to the 8 week project I have in Yates field because I know I will be met with a pretty friendly smile, service that rivals most five star joints I've ever been to and food that would beat it!
Steak was very tasty, as was the burger. The roll it was served in was fresh and slightly sweet - it was remarkably good.
Great spot off the beaten path. Lovely town. Mrs. Courtney was very welcoming and her husband cooked up a delicious meal in the kitchen.
Strongly recommend, big menu, a large variety of food to choose from for a great price. Food is always fresh and taste great.
I’m not sure why it says temporarily closed, we are open! Mon- Friday 11-2 and 5-8. Saturday closed, Sunday 11-2
Stopped in while in the area for hunting trip and glad I did. Had the buffalo style fried chicken sandwich and home fries and it was great. Would definitely come back if ever in the area again.
We love the food at Old House. The staff are always friendly. I just wish they were open more! But we understand life in a small town.
Jorge's food is amazing!I have eaten there so many times and I loved it every time!10 out of 10 would recommend. They have everything from Chinese, Japanese, American, Mexican and even Italian!Food is great, service was great and everything was awsome!
Old House Cafe is an absolute delight! Even though everything looked desertic and quiet from the outside, stepping in felt like discovering a cozy oasis. The atmosphere inside was so welcoming, and the food was not just good; it was downright tasty! Our family enjoyed the variety on the menu, especially the kid-friendly meals. Plus, having parking available made everything super convenient. The staff's friendly service added an extra layer of warmth to our visit. Just a little note, the place might benefit from a fresh coat of paint, but that certainly didn't take away from the charm and delicious experience at Old House Cafe.
That is a great place! We traveled from Austin to Big Bend park, and were tired and hungry! I’m not a big fan of fast food so not really to find a decent place with normal/human food. But we did find it, when drove through small city Iraan! We couldn’t be more happy with home made food, super friendly people here and excellent service provided! Well deserved 5 stars ( for some reason my phone doesn’t let me to upload more pictures)
Burger was delicious! Added extra patty and did not expect it to be so thick! New go to spot in Iraan after work. Service was friendly and the place a lil beat up but that’s because they’ve been open longer than I’ve been alive probably. Would recommend
Best plate of food (in a restaurant) I've had in a while. Burger was amazing. My husband had the sirloin and it was tender, well seasoned and juicy. My daughter had Chinese style fried rice with chicken (of all things) and she approved- she's a Chinese food connoisseur. So sad this is in the middle of Texas otherwise we'd be new regulars.
I read the reviews on Google and decided to give it a try while I was in town. I was not disappointed! I just had a great hand battered Chicken Fried Steak that was so tender I could cut it with my fork. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was inviting. I highly recommend anyone going through Iraan give this place a try! Worth it!
In town for work. Stopped by for lunch and ordered a bacon cheese burger. Fresh cuttings, mayo, mustard tater tots. Burger was delicious, waitress was friendly.
Awesome little spot. They have a variety of different kinds of food. Totally threw me off but it was pretty cool. American, BBQ, Japanese, seafood, Italian, Mexican etc...if you're hungry and can't decide what you want, you want to come here!
Great atmosphere and friendly staff. Food was pretty good too

Easy to miss, but... Don't! Not a flashy place, but service was friendly, and menu has variety... My wife and I (for once) ordered the very same thing; Chicken Fried Steak. And we both agreed that this was more than likely the best CFS we've had... And I've tried a fair selection of those. Great crust to meat ratio, and the crust was crunchy, not the least bit greasy. The gravy was darn near perfect; creamy and flavorful, without overpowering the CFS itself. The mash was great too. Next time we are in the area, this will be a very easy pick!
Love Love Sweet Potato Fries! Perfect Small Town Food place!
Great food. I got the spicy cajun catfish with onion rings and hushpuppies. The fish was seasoned and fried to perfection. The onion rings and hushpuppies were crispy and tasted great. My colleague got the classic burger and said it was very good too. Fast and friendly service too. Overall highly recommend this place.
First time here. I ordered the Hibachi Grill with Beef, Chicken and Shrimp with very little soy sauce and no salt. The steak was prepared medium rare as requested and reasonably tender, everything was cooked to perfection. The chicken was tender and still moist as we're the shrimp. The vegetable were also cooked perfectly and still retained a good color and firmness (I despise mushy grilled vegetables). Plus it was still very tasty without the extra sodium. My server was prompt and friendly. She helped me pick my meal based on my likes. Even the fried rice was good and was light colored due to the very little soy sauce as requested. It was an excellent dining experience and much appreciated!
Stopped to grab a quick bite while coming through town. Got the General Tao’s chicken and boneless buffalo wings. Everything was 10/10. Great friendly service from Scotty and Venessa. I’m confident this is the best food for miles around.
Went for the first time and the fish buffet was amazing can't wait to try the rest of the menu.
Overall lovely place the cook is good at what he does and the waitress is very good at her job as well and quick 5 star all the way

We were very surprised that the food was good and the menu had from Mexican to Chinese food and a fresh salad bar the Waitress was wonderful and pretty much the only restaurant in town
Please don't get discouraged by the appearance of this restaurant!!! I am an avid food lover, I am rating this place based on it's food, which is just so Damn Good people!!! You must try the all of the items in the menu. My personal favorite is the hamburger steak...
When passing through Iraan TX (that's probably what most people will do) to Odessa and find yourself hungry this is a good place to eat. A basic, family owned cafe with good food and friendly service. My girlfriend I were happy when we left. However, if you're looking for cloth napkins, uniformed waitresses and an upscale ambiance I recommend that you drive to Midland/Odessa or another place several miles away.
Brisket, chicken , ribs are super yummy so is the potato salad and peach cobbler!!! Make sure to stop by on your way passing through! Very nice staff and owner!!
I gave this place and extra star simply because it is often the only restaurant open in Iraan other than Godfather's Pizza. The staff is friendly, the food is decent and usually comes very quickly. No real complaints. Although there were a half a dozen grade school aged kids in there watching TV and being loud like kids can be.

Small cafe with a full menu or a lunch buffet for $15 + tax. We opted for the buffet and it was good. A salad bar with typical choices. Hot bar included fried fish, baked fish, fried chicken strips, baked chicken breasts, real mashed potatoes (which was my favorite) white gravy, green beans, cheese poppers, French fries, and a couple of other sides. Food was hot and tea was fresh. If you are hungry and want fast food that's tasty, this is a great stop.

The food was great, the only thing I saw were a lot of tables that had dirty dishes on them and were not ready for new customers, they need to either hire new or better staff to fix this problem
Good food good service. Enchiladas had a good flavor. Hamburger steak was kinda warm, but tasty. I will eat here again.
Normally love this place... but the hours on their google page aren't correct and for those from out of town, it's almost impossible to know whether or not they are open. If they had their hours posted correctly, it would be a five star... but when you plan to eat there and get everyone's orders then they don't answer when it says they are open... well that's not great. Maybe if you posted on your facebook every week what the days were then people would know.
I was looking for a place to go for my birthday. Just wanted a meal in a decent place, nothing fancy or spectacular. I had never been to Iraan before and live about 80 miles away. Unfortunately, in this part of Texas, you don't have a whole lot to choose from if you want any kind of reasonable pricing and quality. And I don't care for Mexican food. First, the place looks like it has been closed up for years and years and they came in, swept the floor, lined up the buffet racks against a wall, and kinda, sorta put food in them. You have maybe 7 tables in the place and it just didn't look all that clean. The food was okay, but nothing that I would recommend. The pricing for the buffet is $15 and some change and comes up to $16 something at the end. Way over priced for what they had available to eat. The pictures of the food posted up on FB and the net look really good, but no menu was available, at least none that I could find. There was only 1 picture (that I saw) of the inside and I really couldn't tell. The lady who waited on us with short white hair was very nice and very attentive, but she could only do just so much. She was the best part of the whole experience. The girl who worked there really needs to do something about her clothes. She was considerably overweight and it looked like her pants were going to come down at any moment. It was scary when she bent over to clean a table. A phone in each back pocket and her pants barely, just barely covered her crack. It didn't help my experience. The cook looked kind of scary. At least 7 feet tall and very weird looking. Would I go back there? I don't think so. 160 miles round trip for what I got? I don't think so. Maybe back in the day when they were fully functional, but not now. Oh, and FYI, in spite of what you might read on FB and the net, the buffet only runs from 11-1 during the week.

Their is nothing more gross and disgusting when the waitress doesn't wash her hands after handling people's money, handling dirty dishes and making peoples food. Oh and the buffet food being uncovered too and flies getting in it and people still serving themselfs. Won't go there again. GROSS.
It took them 1 hour to get the burger ready, the fries is soggy and no tomatoes and no lettuce, really an experience
Outside run down, inside not much better. Election wiring running out of ceiling to electric panel and hot Buffett carts. Found hair in our food. Taste was not that great. Probably only open because there really wasn't much to choose from in Iraan. The brightest point was the waitress, she was fantastic!
