A surprising restaurant. The food and service are impeccable. The location is beautiful and the gardens are unexpected. Highly recommended and a must-visit! The waiter who served us couldn't have been friendlier or more pleasant!
A friend and I recently took a trip through northern Spain, starting from Barcelona, and this is definitely one of the restaurants I enjoyed eating at the most. Everything was delicious, and the staff was very attentive, professional, and friendly. My only complaint is that it's quite far from my house, making it difficult to visit more often. All joking aside, it's a place I'll definitely return to.
Spectacular gastronomic experience! Salegi is strength, confidence, experience, and professionalism; without a doubt, one of the most beautiful and special restaurants in the Basque Country. Each dish is a true taste experience, with a gastronomic offering that always surprises. What they offer off the menu, especially when featuring seasonal produce, is usually a complete success. The service was impeccable, attentive yet discreet, with a team that clearly knows and loves what they do. The food lived up to all expectations. I recommend it 100%!
Today we came to celebrate our anniversary together. We celebrated our wedding here 29 years ago, and it was an excellent experience. Warm welcome, excellent service, exquisite food, exceptional service, and above all, Mariví's professional, warm, and friendly hospitality. Afterwards, we strolled through the restaurant's gardens; it felt like a stroll through a botanical garden, lush and peaceful. Thank you all for the experience 🤩😋♥️
An excellent choice in Itziar. Although we were coming from a tough stretch of the Camino de Santiago, finding Salegi Jatetxea was like the heaven we had earned after all the effort we had made... the atmosphere was generally pleasant except for some locals who shouted instead of talking... the food was delicious and the service was good.
We finished our stage of the Camino de Santiago in Itziar and this place was recommended to us for lunch. An incredible experience! The service was amazing and the food was top-notch. We had suckling lamb and oxtail stew, and it was some of the best we tasted on the entire trip. The cheesecake was creamy and had a great cheesy flavor. 100% recommended!
First of all, I should say that we went with a 6-month-old baby without a reservation, and they had no problem seating us at a table with room for the stroller. We went around lunchtime and stuck to the menu, which was about 30 euros, even though there was a very upscale menu. However, my partner is vegetarian, and the daily menu already had options. I can only say that I loved the food. For me, beans with clams and tripe, and my partner had a poached egg with potato foam and mushrooms. It was delicious. For the main course, a grilled basatxerri (Basque breed) pork chop with chutney, and for her, a vegetable medley. I have to say that I was surprised by how tender my meal was, and since the grill gave it that charred touch with a lot of personality, everything paired perfectly with the chutney. To finish, we had mango mascarpone with nut ice cream, chopped almonds, and homemade strawberry jam—to die for!!! A good Crianza red wine to pair with it. The service was excellent. They served us very quickly and were very friendly throughout, perfect for a 10/10. The place is traditional and elegant, and the tables have plenty of space between them, providing privacy. This is definitely a place I plan to return to and try other dishes I couldn't eat today.
Spectacular weekday lunch menu for €26 + VAT. 5-6 starters and 5-6 main courses, plus dessert and a drink. Incredible. Definitely a must-try again. Add the wonderful terrace behind the restaurant to the post; we'll definitely be back. In the photos, my menu: Roasted lettuce hearts with anchovies and blue cheese spread. Delicious. Beautiful roast beef with peppers and vichyssoise. Spectacular. Sautéed strawberries with cream. Amazing. There are no photos of what the rest of the menu ordered, but we share the same opinion on all the dishes. Generous portions. Elegant space. Very good service. Highly recommended. Congratulations, team.
A must-try again. A complete success in terms of product quality, cooking, and presentation. The service was also impeccable, and they have an extensive wine list. The dining room is beautifully decorated and makes you feel comfortable. We ate a la carte for around €35/€40, and it was truly worth it.
Very good value for money. The food was very good, with adequate portions, although if you eat a lot, they might be a bit small. The spring dish was very good, and the desserts were spectacular. The cheesecake was amazing, tasting like cheese. They could improve some of the service. Recommended.
It was recommended to us, and the food is great! It's completely homemade food with a slightly more modern presentation, but without losing the essence of traditional cuisine. We had a set menu for €22 + VAT (10%), so the price was perfect. For starters, we ordered "Vegetable Panaché" and "Egg Sparkling with Mushrooms," which were very good in terms of quantity and quality. For main courses, we ordered "Churrasco" and "Txitxarro," which were delicious! For dessert, "White Chocolate Cream" and "Cheesecake," which impressed me because it was served with hazelnut chocolate instead of jam or berries—a great idea, in my opinion! We'll definitely be back! Thank you! P.S.: The restaurant is very pretty, the service is very good. Just a few meters away, there's a beautiful garden that I recommend visiting! 😉 P.S. 2: I'm also adding the menu in case anyone wants to take a look.
A friend's suggestion led me to this excellent restaurant. The menu was extraordinary, the dishes delicious, Basque cuisine with a modern twist, and the service friendly. From what I saw, it's a traditional Basque house nestled right across from the village church. There's parking, and it's less than 3 km from the highway exit. Definitely another one to add to my list for a return visit and to enjoy its food and atmosphere.
An exquisite restaurant, for its location, service, and cuisine. We ordered the mixed fried platter. A homemade, well-prepared fried dish is a real treat these days. For our main course, we had grilled cod and Lumagorri (a delicious free-range chicken) served on a creamy mushroom and truffle rice dish. For dessert, we had an exceptional cheesecake. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves. Five generations have run this restaurant, and it shows. A perfect 10 in every way, and we'll definitely be back.
Unparalleled for walking in these times.
Restaurant in the heart of the village of Itziar, right across from a beautiful little church surrounded by a vegetable garden. The food is very good, fresh and prepared just the right amount. The dining room is warm, with little old-fashioned touches. I highly recommend it!
A luxury menu for only €20.
Before and after, wonderful
Highly recommended place, the food is good, but the service is excellent. A restaurant focused on the product, with subtle touches. The oyster with celery was super fresh and very good, the grilled kokotxas (hake cheeks) were a 10/10, the sea bream was good, I've had better, but still good.
EXCELLENT Monday-Friday menu for €22+VAT, a 10/10 for the ingredients, presentation, and service. Reservations are almost essential.
Absolutely 10 out of 10! Definitely worth repeating!!
Hopefully, chop and soufflé. Exceptional.
For its customer service...its gardens and its exquisite food...
Everything is going very well, as always.
The best food, the beef chop was spectacular, the potatoes were delicious, even the red pepper was delicious.
A restaurant with a classic menu, quality ingredients, and plenty of flavor. Attentive service in a place with a special charm :)
I attended a wedding. It's worth mentioning that the day threatened rain, but it held off for the entire outdoor cocktail hour. The venue is truly beautiful. Everything is so well-maintained, full of lovely details. All the food was delicious, and the presentation was stunning. The staff was very attentive, smiling, and eager to accommodate every request. The food and drinks were good and plentiful. During the dancing, they brought out a spectacular fruit display. Delicious and beautiful. A real labor of love.
My wife and I arrived at Salegi Restaurant at lunchtime on Ferragosto (August 15th) and, despite not having booked, we were very kindly welcomed by the owners who guaranteed us a table. The setting is beautifully decorated and spacious. The quality of the food and the skill in its preparation were truly excellent. The service was impeccable. We will always carry with us a wonderful memory of the experience we had at this great Restaurant in Itziar.
Unique experience
Atmospheric and delicious
The best meal I had in Euskadi! Absolutely delicious and the staff is very nice. Beautiful view from behind the church nearby too, definitely recommend!
Highly recommended, quality food and very professional and friendly staff.
Very good quality food The dishes are well presented
We really liked the restaurant, the food and the attention of the staff. We will definitely repeat when we return. I have celiac disease and they were very kind and knowledgeable about the subject. They have gluten-free bread and they advise you perfectly on what you can or cannot eat.
Nice staff and very good food
Oscar took care of us in a very warm, professional, and attentive way. We could really feel his passion, and we felt comfortable and welcome from the beginning to the end. We asked him for recommendations, and they turned out to be excellent – we were more than satisfied. The food was also delicious – big compliments to everyone involved! We would love to come back again.
Since 1881, (144 years !) this family continues to grow the restaurant, and you can feel it. When u enter, go upstairs and turn right to join the restaurant. The food, service and atmosphere were very good, we spent a great time there. I think it must be even greater if you come with a small group, looks like they have some funny generous dessert! Definitely need a reservation before coming!
Everything is delicious, friendly service, and wonderful gardens! ❤❤❤❤
Excellent quality dishes and very good service.
As always, we had an excellent experience at Salegi for our wedding. The food was amazing, including menus for those with intolerances. The treatment we received from the entire team, and especially from Maribi and Amaia, was exceptional from the start. Thank you for always conveying calm and professionalism! See you soon!!!
Excellent quality/price ratio with very careful attention
Very good. The daily menu is €20, but it's very good. You can also order a la carte, and it never disappoints.
It's a quiet place. The customer service is phenomenal.
Daily menu (28€) or à la carte, offering a variety of starters, meat and fish dishes, and homemade desserts.
Sensational quality, product, service, and facilities. Six generations have made it a 10. Congratulations to the entire team. Keep up the good work. ESKO ESKERRI ASKO
Delighted!! The quality of the product and the quality of the service are evident. When we visit these lands again, we'll definitely be back!! A 10/10 experience, that's how you enjoy eating!! See you soon!
Very pretty, excellent food and incomparable gardens
Excellent menu offering, very complete (wine included) for €28/ pp. Quality of the food was superb which speaks volumes of northern Spain as a culinary destination: don’t forget that we are basically in very small, countryside town! We had the zucchini (filled with ground beef) and topped with grilled cheese, the cannelloni and the veggie panache for staters. Everything of exquisite taste and complex making. And for main, we had the seafood casserole and the beef. Again, everything was fantastic. They also offered an a la carte menu but it was on the pricey side.
We got the menu option. Party of 3, we mixed it up to try the different options. Been traveling to n Spain for 20 days. This is THE BEST meal we have had so far.
The best of Donosti. All very good.
Excellent place for dinner with family, friends, or colleagues. The food is excellent. Luxurious terrace.
Delicious tuna salad and pork chop. Excellent service. The place is beautiful!
We had a set menu. The grilled salmon and tuna salad were spectacular, and the dessert was a cheesecake that tasted like real homemade cheese. Very friendly service. Definitely a repeat visit.
Beautiful garden. Incredibly great food. Bit pricy. Nice staff.
Spectacular. A beautiful family restaurant, with excellent service and top-notch food. Some of the best steak I've ever eaten. The price is more than reasonable for the quality of the food. Definitely a pleasant surprise in the Basque Country. Looking forward to coming back!
You know the saying: we are what we eat? Well, at Salegi, they are what they cook… sigh after sigh! We tried all the suggestions: steak croquettes, pasta with lobster, and the sea bream! Oh! And the French toast (the real thing)! And let's not forget the whiskey ice cream, wow!
One of the best restaurants in the Basque Country. Efficient and hospitable service. Tables were well-spaced. The octopus was delicious; the quality was evident. The squid and monkfish with rice were spectacular. And what can I say about the desserts, since we ordered three! Torrija: delicious; the chocolate coulant: more than on par with the coulants from France (I live there); cheesecake: all the flavor of quality cheese, not cream cheese. Made a note and we'll be back. P.S. The beer menu is very limited; the icing on the cake would have been a local craft beer, but that's just my fancy. They have Estrella Galicia, more than enough.
Excellent service and great food; a welcoming place for any type of event.
I went to eat the €30 weekly menu, which was excellent. A very well-prepared, high-quality menu. The location is very cozy, and the service is very friendly and attentive.
Spectacular place, great service, and exquisite food. We'll be back!
I loved it. It's a wonderful place, ideal for couples, friends, family, or large events. You have so many different spaces and very well-maintained gardens. Impeccable service and high-quality products!
Fabulous. Nothing more needs to be said. The food was exquisite. Grilled meats and fish were delicious. The service was wonderful; we felt like we'd known them all our lives. Without a doubt, we'll eat here again on our next trip to the area.
Cozy place, with very good service and good quality products, everything is delicious, I will definitely return.
Family restaurant in Itziar, Guipúzcoa. The steak, as seen in the photo, is spectacular. Very good service, frank and direct. Several generations of the same family are in charge. The professionalism and excellent product are evident. Highly recommended.
Everything was delicious. The menu isn't very long and provides information about the origin of many of the ingredients. The grilled squid salad and the octopus with vegetables and romesco sauce were perfect before the sea bream. Everything was cooked to perfection and served with taste. The service was also very pleasant. The prices are a bit high, but they still don't go overboard with the off-menu dishes.
Traditional restaurant with excellent ingredients. The professionalism and friendliness of the service were also noteworthy. We will return. Thank you!
Everything was great!
Exquisite food and first-class quality! Highly recommended, whether for a casual day or a celebration! Friendly and unbeatable service! I'll be back whenever I can!
My experience has been very good, all the dishes were exquisite and the service was very good too
A very pleasant place, with warm lighting, widely spaced tables with linen tablecloths, and all anti-Covid measures in place. The daily menu offered many options. I chose the creamy rice with mussels and shrimp, tasty and perfectly cooked, accompanied by a light aioli sauce, delicious. For the main course, I mistakenly ordered something I couldn't eat for health reasons, and they quickly and with a smile replaced it with an excellent fish and seafood stew, with the fish and seafood grilled to perfection in a delicious dark fish sauce. For dessert, a yuzu and pistachio brownie with a berry and chocolate sauce and berry ice cream. As appetizing as its description suggests, with a warm citrus-flavored cake with pistachios, and the cold raspberry ice cream. Paired with wine and water, for €22 + VAT. An excellent selection. Highly recommended. Definitely a restaurant to return to.
Very nice restaurant, good atmosphere, very flowery and very cool, everything 100% recommended.
I was pleasantly surprised as I hadn't been to this restaurant before. The set menu is €24.50. The food is delicious. The ingredients are incredibly flavorful, and the sauces are so good you'll want to keep dipping. The set menu offers a good variety, from vegetables and pasta to meat, fish, and desserts. A nice touch is the selection of breads they provide.
A high-quality set menu for €24.50 plus VAT. Spectacular gardens.
Good place, recommended.
Great service, professional and friendly. Excellent food, great grill, and good wine selection. We'll be back.
Formidable,
We arrived in Itziar for the first time and took a stroll around. We saw the impressive complex of this restaurant, and it's spectacular. Because of the time, we had a drink, but we'll be back for lunch.
An unforgettable experience, recommended. A beautiful and cozy place. Especially the food. Delicious.
I love it 💖 😍, excellent service, exquisite food. Thank you for making a special day even better.
What can I say about Salegi? A must-see in Guipúzcoa. Fine cuisine prepared by great chefs. The perfect place to indulge your palate.
Nice and pleasant place.
We decided to go to this restaurant in Itziar. It was a bit confusing to get there, as Google kept getting lost, so much so that we almost gave up. Luckily, stubbornness allowed me to discover a very well-maintained place across from the church. Charming service, a well-maintained atmosphere, and good tableware. We had a set menu (€22). A good place to spend some time and eat better.
The place is very nice, the service friendly and polite. The dishes very well decorated. We ate the set menu. The au gratin eggplant is worth mentioning... and to put a but... the dessert... for my taste the rice pudding had too much milk and not enough sugar and cinnamon. But as I say it's a matter of taste...
A family restaurant with an extensive menu of excellent, well-prepared products. The grill area is visible from one of the dining rooms; it's separated by a wall and glass, so the smoke from the grill isn't bothersome at all. It has plenty of seating and is well-equipped for banquets and celebrations. The desserts are 10/10. They are very attentive and caring towards their customers.
We found it in the Repsol Guide as a restaurant to treat yourself to, and the food truly is worthy of a treat. The oyster ceviche is amazing, the foie terrine is delicious, the beef tenderloin is spectacular, and the grilled sea bass is delicious, although drizzled with too much oil for my taste. The homemade desserts are top-notch. I'm not giving it 5 stars because the service was a bit slow between courses. I also didn't like the large dining room where we were seated; it was too noisy with very large tables of other guests. I'm sure the smaller dining rooms are more pleasant.
A highly recommended steakhouse, with excellent produce, incredible steak and turbot. The only notable thing is that the starters seemed a bit short (although very tasty), as they gave us three baby squid for five people for €22, something they could have mentioned in case we chose something different.
A place off the beaten path/coastal route. A typically Basque menu. We opted for their grilled dishes and it was a great choice. The octopus and baby squid were excellent starters. The bread was also high quality. We found the baby squid a bit pricey (€22 for 3 pieces). The ribeye steak and turbot were phenomenal. And the desserts—brown, cheesecake, and pantxineta—were a perfect ending. With some beers and a bottle of Ángeles de Amaren wine that accompanied the entire meal, the bill came to €60.
We were craving T-bone steak, and I think we chose a great place to indulge. Great produce, cooked to perfection. If I had to find a fault, it would be the duck salad: it was undercooked and, in my opinion, overpowered by fruit and sweet and sour contrasts. I would include a more traditional salad on the menu and add a few more potatoes and peppers if ordering to share; they were very good. Dessert, with their homemade ice cream, was also a success. The price-quality ratio was quite good, and the service was also very good.
We tried the set menu and, off the menu, we chose the 5J ham. - The 5J ham (€22, I think) was delicious, but it didn't strike me as a TOP-quality ham. I thought it was a good Iberian ham. - The set menu was €26+VAT. * For starters, pasta with mushrooms and truffle (the truffle was conspicuously absent). It was still delicious, and there were peppers stuffed with leeks and shrimp in a seafood/fish sauce (the BEST, but only 3 pieces. A 4-piece selection would be appreciated). * For main courses, hake hearts (delicious) and veal. The veal, as you can see in the photo, was undercooked, and even so, God help me, it was hard to chew and swallow. Without a doubt, the worst by far. * For dessert, the panchineta (correct) and the cheesecake were delicious (some hints of sheep's/goat's milk), and it was nice that it didn't have jam on top. Total paid: Two daily menus + 5J ham = €81.70
Good meal, faster service and courtesy.
Exquisite food. A safe bet. The daily menu is very good, but I'm a big eater, and some dishes are too small for me. Excellent service!
Recommended, perhaps the bad thing is getting to the restaurant
The food was very good. The daily menu was varied. Excellent flavor and local produce. Two daily menus for 53.90. Includes two dishes, dessert, a bottle of wine, and a bottle of water.
What I liked most was the octopus and the raspberry cake for dessert. The food is good, but the price isn't cheap.
A varied and high-quality daily menu, somewhat high-priced, but acceptable value for money.
Highly recommended, exceptional service and high-quality ingredients. Generous portions prepared with care. A must-stop if you're in the area.
Quiet and cozy place. Homemade food is a 10/10. I'm not giving it 5 stars because the service was a bit confusing.
An extensive menu with varied and high-quality options. A restaurant with a traditional feel but innovative dishes. Plus, the setting is unbeatable. A good excuse to visit Itziar.
Everything was great.
Very good experience!!! Quality and excellent service!!!
A spectacular place. It's worth coming and enjoying the views and the food.
I like it a lot. Spectacular service
For the first time it seemed a little slow to me but for once we are not going to play anyone
The high prices are not at all in line with the food, and the service is extremely slow.
I'm not giving less stars because I can't, I felt ripped off with the menu. Don't say you can adapt a dish to be vegetarian, when it's clear that there will be almost nothing left to eat, I ordered a salad, I don't remember the name, that could be adapted to be vegetarian, they left out the tuna or bonito and they were just some slices of tomato and then a panache of vegetables that had no flavor and very little quantity, the dessert was goxua that tasted like nothing, I didn't even feel like taking a photo, the only good thing was my partner's torrija that he gave it to me out of pity for how bad I ate. 22 euros for the menu that even if I had eaten well I wouldn't mind paying that amount, but I ate TERRIBLE, if you are vegetarian or vegan don't even think about going to that place. The only thing that filled me up was the water they gave us, what a shame really.
