I went to Robata Wasa for my birthday dinner, and it was a wonderful experience. As someone who loves sushi and Japanese food, I really enjoyed the quality and taste of the dishes. Everything was fresh and delicious. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, especially Tiff. She was incredibly sweet and even surprised me with a ice cream mochi for my birthday. I would definitely recommend this place and will happily come back again!
Robata Wasa at the Irvine Spectrum is such a solid spot if you’re craving quality sushi with a fun, energetic vibe. From the moment you walk in, the atmosphere feels elevated but still relaxed. dim lighting, modern decor, and a lively buzz that makes it perfect for a night out with friends or a casual date night. The fish is incredibly fresh. You can taste the quality immediately, buttery salmon, clean and slightly sweet hamachi, and melt-in-your-mouth toro that doesn’t need anything extra. Every piece of nigiri was balanced and beautifully presented, and you can tell they really take pride in their seafood selection. Service was also top-tier. The staff was attentive, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. They checked in at the perfect times and gave great recommendations without being pushy. Overall, Robata Wasa delivers on all fronts, fresh fish, creative dishes, great service, and a cool atmosphere right in the heart of the Spectrum. Definitely a spot worth coming back to.
Robata Wasa at the Irvine Spectrum is such a great experience. The interior is modern Japanese with calm ocean vibes. We went for lunch with the family and the kids really enjoyed it as well. We ordered the Yellowtail Jalapeño and the Ryoshi Plate, as well as the Hokkaido Roll and Gindara Saikyo Yaki. Not only are the plates delicious but they are plated so beautifully! We tried the Yuzu Flan for dessert and it had such a lovely and delicate flavor. As for the service, it was so friendly and accommodating. We ate outside because it was such a lovely day! The experience is definitely one we will remember and we can’t wait to go back to try even more food! Be sure to make a reservation because it can get busy!
Robata Wasa is one of the best Japanese spots I’ve tried. The rolls were fresh and flavorful, the Makunouchi Deluxe Bento and Beef Don were both unforgettable, and the Shiitake Mushroom Salad was such a unique touch. Add in their delicious drinks, cozy modern vibe, and friendly service, this place is definitely a must-visit!
We come here often because it’s a dog friendly restaurant outside the patio. We love to take our fur baby here. Closer to home. And we can walk around after for digestion since it’s located in Irvine Spectrum like an outdoors mall with many restaurants, shops. They offer happy hour but drinks only and from Monday to Thurs.
Robata Wasa is hands down one of the best sushi spots l've been to. Their sushi is fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The standout for me was definitely the crispy lobster roll which was perfectly balanced with a crunch that makes every bite unforgettable. I also tried their matcha latte martini, and it was honestly to die for and it was such a unique pairing with sushi. The atmosphere is modern yet cozy, and the service is friendly and attentive. Definitely a go-to if you're craving amazing sushi and creative drinks!
Nice sushi restaurant in the Irvine spectrum with nice ambience. They have both indoor seating and outdoor patio. Friendly service. The food is fresh and tasty with good presentation. Order the seasonal Hokkaido roll, crispy lobster roll, salmon and lemon pepper roll, spicy yellow tail tataki roll, and volcano roll.
Great service by Tiff! Food was delivered fast and so good. 10/10
I was able to make it here early last month after just walking around and exploring and I was pleasantly surprised at the portion sizes. I also really enjoyed the toro and got the largest portion. I sound at the bar. All of the sushi chefs were very friendly as well as the servers. If you’re chasing good Toro this is a solid spot for sure.
I’m an out of towner and we had been craving sushi and this place did not disappoint. We were greeted when we got there, we were sat and taken care of immediately, the appetizers came out within 5 minutes and were so hot as fresh, the sushi rolls we ordered also came out super fast and were also super fresh, and our waitress was so kind and attentive. I would absolutely come here again if I am ever back in the area. Crispy rice and gyoza were phenomenal, the angel hair, volcano, and crunch rolls were to die for, and the service was great. Highly recommend!!
Great place to relax and enjoy some high quality sushi 🍣. We tried 3 different rolls all delicious. I'd recommend the Gyoza steamed instead of fried. Iced Tea was refreshing and flavorful.
I tried Robata Wasa for the first time and it was such a great experience! The sushi was delicious and the fish tasted incredibly fresh. The atmosphere was inviting and the service was very attentive - I’m looking forward to coming back!
I’ve been here several times and have ordered a variety of dishes: from appetizers like fried shrimp and takoyaki, to mains like sushi and bento boxes. The food overall has been really good quality and good price so far! It’s noticeable that their ingredients are very good quality and fresh. The only improvement so far would be that I’d love to see more “special” sushi (or creative combinations from the chef) without frying 1 or more items. However they have a variety of fresh, traditional sushi that is really good. The place is wonderful, nice, clean, and has a great environment to talk. The service is consistently good!

Everytime I go here I'm greeted with professional staff and outstanding service! The servers are very respectful and appetizers and entrees come out at perfect times. The food itself all brings up unique flavors and I encourage trying new things each time as there's so much to the menu! The inside of the restaurant takes Japanese themes and incorporates a sort of modern style to it that fits the location and time. It's a staple when I'm at the spectrum, I highly recommend it!

Robata Wasa is a great restaurant. I've been there a few times and have always had a good experience. The staff is always friendly and attentive, the prices are a bit high but the food is worth it, and the ambiance is nice and relaxed. I especially love their sushi and sashimi. The fish is always super fresh, and they have a great variety of rolls to choose from. The Volcano Roll is my favorite, but they also have some really good sashimi and nigiri.

Menu is excellent and the food comes out professionally and quickly. Great for business meetings too.
Came here celebrating a birthday dinner with family. We arrived earlier than our reservation time, but the hostess was able to accommodate the party. We got seated on the heated patio. The menu had a bunch of options for appetizers (yakitori, small plates, etc) and sushi rolls. Some items were a little pricey than normal, but the restaurants in the Spectrum aren't very budget friendly. We ordered many yakitori, some sushi rolls and a few entrees. I ordered the matcha soba, which the noodles came already in the cold broth (it usually comes separately so you dip them in the broth). My favourite items I had was the Dragon roll and the asparagus yakitori. Our server was really nice and professional. She explained how the price of the yakitori was for one skewer and helped us to decide several of our dishes. She always checked on drinks and when we wanted to add to our tab as well.
Great Service and excellent food. Outdoor seating was perfect with the kids 🤘🤘
Jae was absolutely amazing. Lychee martini is soo good and service was beyond amazing. Will definitely be back!
This place is awesome and their service is great! Their food is unique and delicious 😋 definitely coming back for more.
Okay so I usually don’t write reviews but I couldn’t leave without sharing my experience I had with my family at Roberta Wasa. MICHAEL was the most professional and friendly server I had came across in a very long time. The food was amazing everything tasted delicious and the service was top notch. Thank you for making us feel so special. We will visit you very soon.
Have been coming here for years. The food in Robata Wasa is very authentic for Japanese (and some other dishes), consistently excellent and well presented I thought the sushi roll was fresh and well done(I love it😍). I am pretty picky about my sushi and I thought it was quite good here.
Really good sushi and sashimi. I had only minor complaints. The rice could be slightly more firm, and I'd rather better-trimmed tuna belly. One piece had a tiny tough spot on it. That being said, the food is very good overall. Tried the ribeye another night here, loved it. Ambiance and service are both excellent.
Sushi Robata Wasa at Irvine Spectrum is a must-visit! The atmosphere was buzzing and lively—definitely a popular spot, so be sure to book ahead through Yelp. The reservation process was a breeze. We were lucky to have Tea as our server—she was incredible! Super friendly, upbeat, and made the whole experience even more fun. The menu is packed with options, but here are a few standout picks: - Pear Sangria: Absolutely delicious—fruity, refreshing, and unique. - Sushi Bento Box: Perfectly curated and highly recommended! - Signature Rolls: Fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Everything we tried was fresh and tasty—true sushi perfection. Can’t wait to come back!
Phenomenal sushi! The fish is like butter that just melts in your mouth, so fresh and delicious. Prices are really reasonable for the quality it gets you. Some inventive menu items, good service, nice ambiance. Checked every box.
Our server Gabriella was excellent and very knowledgeable on the food and drinks! Very good sushi and tsunomono!
5 Stars - A Must-Try Sushi Spot in Irvine! We had an incredible dining experience at Robata Wasa in the Irvine Spectrum! From the moment we sat down, our amazing waitress Apple made us feel right at home with her warm and attentive service. Every roll we tried was fresh and flavorful, but the Rainbow Roll and the Lemon & Pepper Salmon Roll were absolute standouts—perfectly balanced and beautifully presented. To top it off, we indulged in the Matcha Panna Cotta for dessert—so creamy and delicious! And the plum wine paired perfectly with everything. Highly recommend this spot for anyone who loves quality sushi and great service. We’ll definitely be back!
Gabby is amazing!!!! She had the best recommendations!! Will definitely be back! Marvin was great also!
Food was delicious and service was even better! Sat at the bar and Gabriella was an absolute delight!

We were craving Japanese and something light, fresh and healthy for lunch, when we strolled past here and thought we’d give it a go. Sometimes that’s how you find the best places. This was no exception. The food here was delicious and so incredibly heavenly and perfect. We ordered a few of our own dishes and a few to share and everything was really good. They were accomodating with substitutions and modifications and so we added avocado to our Philadelphia rolls and it was no problem. My salmon and avocado rolls I asked for no seeds and it came perfect. The salmon carpaccio was delectable and soft and sliced so delicately. You didn’t even need to chew. The marinade was delicious. The only minor irritation was our waitress. She was A LOT! She kept saying “What can I get us?” (Who is us? Her too?) and “I’ll be taking care of us today.” It doesn’t sound so bad, but she was overpowering, fake and too much. With that said, I would ABSOLUTELY come back here again. It wasn’t too pricey, the food was incredible and I love that they could accomodate special requests. Run, don’t walk, here!!!
Irvine spectrum little secret! Hungry for sushi or wagyu beef? Then this is the place. The decor is awesome and welcoming. Food is fresh and options plentiful. I would have loved eating inside too really immerse myself in the amazing decor (patio dining only). Eating outside the patio area did not disappoint, good viewing area and enjoyable. Everything ordered arrived promptly, waitress was helpful with our shusi food tour. Prices are fair and servings decent. Delicious lunch, good service to a beautiful experience. Thank you!

Tiff was a super cool server! My wife and I came in and had the lobster specialty roll, the rainbow roll, calamari tempura, and miso soup. Everything was delicious, and cool vibe!
I think this is the best Japanese restaurant that I've ever been to. The ambiance is great, the location is easy to get to, service is very good and professional, the price is fair and the food is delicious! The quality of the sushi rice is top notch and the presentation of some of their rolls is great. Also a very nice plus, they have bottled beer!
At first I was skeptical…but after a couple drinks and amazing food I was won over by the Bartender Gabby who will take the best care of you. Her upbeat attitude and amazing service was an absolute treat
We were there last night with my son and his two toddlers. It was wonderful that they accommodated us because of the little ones. The food was delicious 😋. I had the Sushi Gozen Bento...so much food and very filling. My boyfriend had the Beef Son and he really enjoyed it. My son ordered the RW Sashimi Platter. We also ordered appetizers of Garlic Edamame, Vegetable Tempura and Goyza. EVERYTHING was delicious and presented beautifully. It was our first time visiting the Irvine Spectrum and we so enjoyed the visit. If you want sushi I'd recommend Robata Wasa !!!!
I was here earlier in the evening at the bar and it was stunning and drinks were amazing. Our bartender was Gabriella she made our experience so fun with her bubbly personality. Food was also top tier. Definitely will recommend this place to friends.

Solid restaurant option at the spectrum that generally seems to have availability which is nice when you want to just pop in. The food is decent, and the standout for me is the kids bento. It might be the best kids meal I've ever seen. Service is good. Outdoor seating has pretty nice vibes.
Great place to eat, specially after a long walk through the Irvine Spectrum. We came on a Saturday around 3 pm, we a party of 4. The restaurant wasn’t too busy, I’m assuming because it’s located close to an end of the shopping center. Our wait time was 15 minutes, not bad at all. Our waitress, Audrey, was awesome. She was very kind, friendly, helpful, and quick. Almost as soon as we sat down, she came over. The atmosphere is nice, I felt pretty relaxed, I enjoyed my time eating and flavoring the food. Food was great and accurate. Everything tasted nice and fresh, full of flavor, good quality of ingredients. My only thing was the Iced Matcha Green Tea. It didn’t have milk. I am not sure if they forgot, or that’s just the way it is. It usually comes with milk, every time I’ve ordered, so who knows! But this is still an excellent location. We enjoyed it!
This was our first time to Robata Wasa. We were immediately seated for an early lunch. Our server was awesome, she anticipated our refills and requests. Some of the winner plates included the Dragon Roll, Volcano, Sushi Gozen, and Salmon and Avocado Roll. Some of the plates that were left partially eaten included the Cucumber Salad and the Seaweed Salad. Don't be fooled American, the Cucumber Salad is a bowl of pickles, one per table would be plenty. Overall we had a great experience, and most were happy with their meal choices.

Sushi was delicious from nigiri to specialty rolls. The bowls were just ok - stir fry meat was very fatty and we hardly ate it. Mostly rice. Service was extremely slow, and an item was forgotten until we were about to pay our check and we had to ask for it (edamame). Large booths available, given the location it is usually busy, so make reservations. Prices are very expensive - not sure it's worth it in value but here's the job done.
I have not been here since it open so this my second time dining here and this time for lunch. I had the bento lunch that includes 2 options. Theres also an option for 3 items for a few dollars more. The sushi was fresh. The portions are small for the price but they give you alot of sides including the egg custard. Tasty. I was curious to try their ramen and was a disappointed. The broth was bland and had no flavor. Not your traditional ramen. I would stick with the sushi. Overall the service was excellent and I enjoyed the presentation
Loved the food and the interior of the place Highlights of our visit included the Yellowtail Jalapeño, Chirashi Bowl, the Makunouchi Bento (featuring salmon, chicken, egg, and a variety of sides), and Albacore Sashimi. The only thing from me is that it was a little pricey for sashimi dishes we tried. Other than that, it’s a great restaurant at Irvine Spectrum.
Robata Wasa is not a dedicated ramen restaurant, but the ramen they serve is what one can expect from such a restaurant. The broth is creamy and rich, and the chashu is soft and fatty. However, the noodles served with the bowl were mushy, as if they were not cooked at all. It did not feel as if I were eating ramen noodles, but rather raw dough. If this is fixed, I believe this bowl will be a great bowl that can compete with other ramen restaurants. A few other tips based on the what I saw today. The broth was warm, but not hot. A bowl this big takes a while to eat, so it is unfortunate to have it cool down so fast if it isn’t hot when it is served. So pipe up that broth and let it steam. The egg has a nice soft boiled but it is not seasoned and marinated in soy like it is traditionally done in other ramen bowls. This was just rather unusual. The restaurant as a whole served noodles, sushi, and other Japanese tapas. I look forward to trying the other items as well. The location and interior is lovely, so I would love to see this restaurant do well as it is new after all.
Really enjoyed the veggie noodles! If you are vegan the seaweed salad is not safe unless you ask the waiters to hold the fish eggs and what looked like jellyfish. The restaurant was great overall, enjoyed the quiet homey atmosphere and the great customer service. Only downside is it felt a little pricy for the portion size especially for the side dishes but overall definitely a thumbs up!
We ended up here after leaving another restaurant with uncomfortably small tables for couples, only to find the same issue here. Honestly, we consumers should collectively boycott these cramped seating arrangements. Fortunately, when I asked the host for a different table, they were accommodating, which I appreciated. The sushi was good, and the service was solid, but the prices were way too high for what you get. I wouldn’t come back unless it was an absolute last resort.
We had a phenomenal server and the decor was fantastic! But definitely mediocre food. Every single dish that we ordered was a recommended dish. We tried the mushroom salad, which was only OK. We had the deluxe bento, which is nothing special. And we also had the chirashi don, which was good, but more rice than anything else. I usually give top-notch reviews and I’m generally very positive.

This place used to be great but recently there has been noticeable changes in the quality of their foods, the prices has gone up and the portions are shrunken. We went there last night and ordered Sashimi salad, my husband and I both got bad stomach pain and diarrhea at night, that tells me that their raw fish probably wasn’t fresh, it sucks to pay over $100 for dinner and get sick afterwards. We had decided that we are not gonna go back to this place but our little girl drags us there every time but after last night, we probably won’t go there anymore.
We usually love coming here, but the hostess tonight (Jan 3 at 6:00pm) was not paying attention to the waitlist and we ended up having to wait way longer than parties that came in after us. Our quoted time of 25 min was closer to an hour. Great food though, but management really should work on training the staff better. The hostess' attitude was also unacceptable which made it even worse. Instead of being empathetic to the mixup and helping us understand how much longer we might need to wait, she popped an attitude and told us that small parties of 2 weren’t a priority and they prioritize larger groups.
Higher expectations led to disappointment—here’s my experience. I ordered the Beef Done, but what I got was basically a pound of rice with a thin layer of beef on top. It looked nice, but honestly felt like a scam. They should’ve called it Imagine the Beef or Big SurpRice
Had high expectations, but food falls short in flavor. We had the Seared Ahi Avocado Crema, it was just OK. Then the Miso Salmon, where more umami flavors were expected but just falls short, and the Unagi Soba which came out just slightly warm, and not hot as a noodle soup should be. The food is very well presented, so kudos on that. Service was just OK, somewhat slow, atmosphere is good.
Fancy entrance and prices, but mediocre food and service. Went at a not so busy time when the restaurant wasn’t even close to being full and we had to keep trying to flag our waiter down to take our order and get the bill. The food was okay, something you would find at a mediocre small sushi place that you could easily make at home for a fraction of the cost. Not really worth the price, as we ordered two things and it was 60 for the two of us.
Beautiful design, beautiful location, and delicious food 🥘 at the most beautiful shopping 🛍 mall in Orange County. Robata is a Japanese word that means “grill side” while “Wasa” has no meaning in the English dictionary. The garlic edamame is really good. It’s a bit spicy 🌶 though. The udon is good for the broad noodles lovers. What I didn’t like is when the waitress came to us asking about our thoughts of the food, and she didn’t know that our order is not in yet !!!! The waitress was rude; really rude. She reflects a negative 👎🏿 establishment culture that shouldn’t be reflected to the customer. All in all, I wouldn’t waste my money there any more.
Everything was below average. We ordered the Nigiri, Philadelphia, and Volcano rolls—none of them were good. The Volcano roll wasn’t even sliced, and when we tried to eat it, it completely fell apart. Overall, a very poor experience, especially considering the high prices. I do not recommend this place.
Sat on the outdoor bar seat for one. Ordered a draft beer and got one. When the barman asked me if I wanted food, I said “I’ll order food in a little bit”. Barman came back to me about 45 minutes later while I got to see others sitting on the bar inside, who came 10 minutes after I’ve arrived, already enjoying their food. What is this service? Are people sitting outside supposed to call the barman??? I don’t understand this restaurant policy, if it even is one!!! I’ve been to this restaurant several times in the past 10 years, and this is my first night on the bar seat. Never again!!! Willing to forgive due to normally otherwise decent service, but this was an annoying experience!
The worst sushi I've ever had! We waited way too long to be seated, place was empty. Plain Udon spelled and tasted like salmon, miso also tasted like burnt salmon. We got the jalapeno bombs that were not spicy or flavorful at all. I couldn't bare to eat the salmon lemon pepper roll after my husband spat it out. We were refunded on the Udon.

visited this restaurant, and unfortunately, I witnessed something concerning. From the roof, I saw a mouse enter the kitchen, and the staff didn’t seem to react, which gave the impression that this might not be an uncommon occurrence. When serving sushi and other raw dishes, maintaining the highest standards of cleanliness is absolutely essential. I hope the management takes steps to address this issue to ensure the safety and well-being of their customers. The food and service were otherwise good, but I believe cleanliness should always be a top priority.
Oh my god what happened to this place used to be great, Fish quality sucks Portion got cut in half The fish now is chewy and crunchy Tuna is now orange and color. They’re supposed to be a bluefin tuna it looks like carrots. This place is horrible and extremely expensive for nothing. I didn’t mind before paying the money because it was good quality but now is it terrible quality
This is Japanese cuisine's equivalent of a knockoff kimono: flashy from afar, fraying at the seams up close. One star only for the heat lamps; they at least kept the chill of disappointment at bay.Would I return? Not even for a free bento box.
The WORST service I’ve ever had. I went to the restaurant with my toddler for dinner. She was pretty hungry and the restaurant didn't seem too busy, so we went. We were told that the wait is 10 mins, but ended up waiting for almost 20 mins to get seated. When we sat down, I wasn't going to eat, but still ordered a full $40 entree and told him we're going to share. After another 25 mins of waiting for our food, I asked the server for the status of our order. The response I got from my waiter was unreal. Without any apologies or anything, he said there are people waiting for their food for over an hour and there are 15 tickets in front of us, so we should wait for another 35 mins of wait. To simply put, there were several tables empty when we were seated, so I don't understand how there were 15 tickets ahead of us, when the sushi bar probably has separate tickets from the kitchen. And there were tables getting food that were seated after us. I get that the food is not that great here, so they are not used to dealing with customers, but this is going to be another reason why they will never see all of their tables full. I spoke to the manager and he did apologize but that will never change my mind of coming back here.
