Haven’t been to the Hat in a many years since I don’t live close. Went back recently and it still holds true that their Roast Beef Au Jus is my favorite pastrami sandwich here in California with its tasty flavors. Size-wise, it doesn’t look too big but it filled me up fast and was able to take the other half home. It does not come with a dip since it already comes pre-dipped. Also ordered a side of onion rings to split with my husband. The rings are huge, batter is nice and crunchy, and they give you a generous amount! Available for drive-thru and there are many indoor seats (diner style) and a few outdoor ones. We went on a Saturday night at 9pm and didn’t wait long for our food.
Just the right amount of grease. This is the place to go to if you don’t care about a diet, you aren’t on Ozempic, and you’re ready to party. The pastrami sandwich is absolutely insane.so much meat. I mean so much meat. I don’t know how much meat but the lady just kept putting more and more meat on the sandwich. Get the small fry cause if you get the big fry it’s in a shopping bag. Best part they are fast. They are friendly and they have a wide selection of sodas.
Marvelous wet pastrami sandwiches! They've been around for nearly 60 years or more starting San Gabriel valley. And they have kept up the quality and juicy deliciousness of their legendary pastramis! And they're wet. Gravy fries are pretty damn amazing too. And to get an orange bang!

I've been eating at the Hat ever since I lived in Alhambra in the late 60s. And the pastrami dip tastes just as delicious 65 years later. My visits to California wouldn't be complete with a stop at the Hat.
Fod just "a sandwich shop" this place is top notch, the food was great, the propotions were insane, crazy value for what you pay. I got the chili fries and pastrami dip sandwhich both were huge! Food turnaround was quick, there was plenty of seating, definitely will be missing this place when I head back home.
We ordered in the drive through. Very quick but obviously freshly made sandwiches. As a vegetarian I wasn’t hopeful but in the end I was highly impressed. My sandwich was too big for me alone but it was 10/10 how I like it. Messy and worth every penny. I ordered the avocado cold sandwich. My husband ordered the ‘ world famous pastrami dip’ extra dip on the side. He loved it so much I went back to get him lunch the next day! I personally give it a 4 because they need more veggie options but to have even one sandwich for us veg eaters and the quality is amazing. They look packed all day but service is quick so worth the short wait for the food. The pictures don’t lie the meat is thick and tasty! No complaints other than not having one closer to home!
The Pastrami sandwich was excellent and enough for 2 people to feel satisfied. The fries are voluminous. Now here’s the crazy additional observation: this restaurant is ridiculously clean for its age. The floor and seating area was noticeably clean, and the restrooms were exceptionally clean as well. The restaurant is obviously well managed. I got there early on a Saturday at 11 to beat the crowd, and by the time I left, the restaurant was full of people. I will unquestionably be back for more.
I rarely give five star reviews anymore just because the nature of today’s lack of service, food quality and higher prices makes it impossible almost to give a high score. However, I’ve been coming to the Hat for years and never had a bad experience 🤞🏼. Sometimes the pastrami can be a little salty and chewy. Thus I tend to go with the roast beef which today I had and it was exceptionally good. The au jus sauce was great. The french fries with gravy were great. Service was good restaurant is clean, bathroom is clean. It’s really hard to beat this place. Even if it cost me 20 bucks for a sandwich fries and a drink.
The Hat is famous pastrami sandwich food place. I would consider them as high end fast food. I came because I missed the pastrami sandwich. I order the pastrami dip (sandwich) and small fries. Which was a hefty meal. Especially for late, last minute. Cost $17.88 (no tip)
Truly a blast from the past! A retro style restaurant with wood benches and tasteful vibes! Very clean and well maintained lobby, with very helpful staff that jump at the opportunity to make your visit as pleasant as possible! Now, for the sandwich....... I was beyond impressed! I don't think they know the meaning of too much meat! I have NEVER been to a place that was this generous with the portions! Top notch high quality meat that leaves every other place I've ever eaten at in the dust! This restaurant will be the standard all others will be judged by, and am sure they will never come close!
Pastrami chili cheese fries are definitely a family favorite, my picture doesn't do it justice. Easily fed four people with a little to take home. Customer service from beginning to end is on point even with a continuous line.
First time here. Have heard about The Hat forever so as soon as I was able to visit Southern California, I beelined it here. AMAZING! Wow, these are big portions! Oh man every bite was delicious! And that orange bang soda? Yum! Reminds me of a Dole Whip that you’d get at Disney World.
Clean, well organized, well managed "sandwich shop". 🥪 (so much better than calling it that) Another place I went to recently claimed to have the best pastrami sandwich in Orange County. While theirs was very good, it doesn't compare to The Hat. I've eaten at several of their locations and all are superb!!! This visit I got carried away with my order. I ordered a "Pastrami Dip", and an order of "Pastrami Fries". Each on their own can feed two comfortably. The fries are a monstrous mound of taters topped with a generous pile of pastrami (one can add chili and cheese if desired - I didn't). Then there's the sandwich... A soft fresh French style "loaf", about 12 inches, piled with pastrami and had pickles and yellow mustard on it as well. Very Very good...incomparable!!! No, I didn't even finish the fries; I ate the pastrami off the top along with a few fries, took the rest of the fries home. Didn't even touch the sandwich until later in the evening. My beverage was an "Orange Bang". I love Orange Bang, but it's not for everyone...rather sweet. Service was quick and efficient, as was the preparation of the order. Worth the Trip, the Visit, and the Price.
I finally was able to go to the Hat. My friend has been raving about it. He loves pastrami and I’m trying to be more open minded when it comes to food. We got the pastrami sandwich, bbq sandwich, and chili cheese fries. The food was put in a bag and we ate inside. The place was clean and I was able to get Dr Pepper. I would definitely recommend eating here. The meat is thin which is great. There is a drive thru and enough parking.

Pastrami and roast beef with au jus is dynamite and alot of it to consume. Had the loaded fries which was decent but unhumanly large, like a pound of potatoes. Enjoy a must whenever I am in town.

Large portion sizes, no "come meals" fries are waaay too many for one person but the still charge you will over $4 for fries (half the portion and half the price!). Pastrami was good but messy... First off it’s Not. Christmas stop with the holiday music . 2nd I could not even understand the cashier he spoke zero English . 3rd these are not the same onion rings that the other locations serve. Very heartbreaking that you are not serving the same product . I am a pastrami snob and this is not the same taste as other locations nor is this down town Tijuana .
