Excellent views, and there's also a very, very good restaurant. It might seem expensive, but they have a Sunday menu that makes the price even better. It's small but charming, and for the price/view/quality, it's well worth eating here and visiting this place. I highly recommend this amazing place!
Mare de Déu del Mont is a peak in Alta Garotxa, 1125m high. You can reach it by bike, motorbike, or car. Use GPS, as there are hardly any road signs. Drive with extreme caution because the road is very narrow and somewhat dangerous. The views are breathtaking. There is a sanctuary, restaurant, bar, and hotel. A special place to visit. Highly recommended.
We visited the sanctuary a few days ago. It's been many years since I'd been up to this wonderful sanctuary. It's still the same. Well maintained. You can stay there, go for a meal, or just have a drink. You can also hike there, bike, run, or simply drive. We chose to drive there and spend a good time enjoying these wonderful views of much of the Girón region. You can stay at the sanctuary. What's more, Jacint Verdaguer used to stay here. They have his room so you can visit it, along with many of his writings. Jacint Verdaguer was a great poet and writer. They also have a restaurant, and the interior decoration is truly spectacular. The waiter was very friendly and attentive. The atmosphere is friendly. The bar/restaurant terrace is simple, spacious, and beautiful. Honestly, I can't find any fault with it. It's a great place to come, relax, and enjoy the peace and quiet, gazing at all the villages from above, the sea, or simply staring into infinity. So, yes. I recommend climbing the Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Mountain. 10/10
An important sanctuary offering spectacular views of eastern Catalonia. You can stay overnight, but there are very few rooms, very simple as befits the place, which is a place of worship… The road up is very winding and narrow… The family that now runs the hotel-restaurant is new, and the location benefits from it. The end of a stage of a legendary cycling climb (15 km and 900 meters of elevation gain…) Paragliding takeoff site. A trailhead for many (tough) hikes…
He estado con mi compañía disfrutando de una comida deliciosa unas vistas espectaculares y un servicio y atención de la Victoria, me ha dado buenas recomendaciones de comida y de turismo cercano. Está seguro qué volveré!
The service was excellent; Ángel, Luz, and Víctor were very attentive. The food was homemade and delicious. Clean and comfortable. There are six very pleasant rooms for overnight stays, a cozy bar with a fireplace, and a large dining room with stunning views. The place is beautiful! It's incredibly peaceful and quiet.
A spectacular viewpoint, although the road to the top is quite long and I don't recommend it for novice drivers, as it's difficult to fit two standard-size cars side by side. It's recommended to bring something to drink, as the road is quite long, and unless you're going up and then immediately back down, you'll get thirsty. Be careful if you arrive at night, as visibility is VERY poor and there are plenty of animals (mainly wild boars).
Park right at the junction of Falgars and the road leading to the sanctuary. The first part of the outward journey is along a quiet road, with a mix of sun and shade, and easy to follow. The final section is along trails with a significant incline and some scrambling, approximately 400 meters of elevation gain, until you reach the Sanctuary of Mare de Déu del Mont, at the highest point of the mountain. There are excellent views and a restaurant where you can have lunch or dinner, either inside or on its lovely terraces, enjoying the beautiful vistas. On the descent, my route attempts to go down the back side, but there's no passable path to reach the road due to the steep drops, and then the trail itself. If you're looking for a bit of adventure, follow the route; it's short. If you prefer not to risk it, return along the road for about 100 meters to access the trail near the sanctuary entrance. The descent was done during the rainy season and the terrain was very wet, so there were a few falls without consequences. I did it all on the road because I knew the risk of falling was likely. In total, I did 10 km and the rest on the trail, a little less, but not much.
An incredible 360° viewpoint for its diverse landscape: the Pyrenees, the Fluvià River valley, and on clear days you can see Lake Banyoles, the shape of Cap de Creus, and even the Balearic Islands. Located at 1,125 m from the turnoff 100 m away, the hike from Besalú is 32 km and takes about 46 minutes. Accessible by bike or motorcycle, it's one of the most tedious climbs and a bit tricky if you're not used to it, with quite a few curves. With a restaurant, sanctuary, accommodation with 6 rooms, and a sculpture of the monk Jacinto Mossen. They say in Catalan: If you climb Mare del Mon, you'll see half the world.
Incredible views from the sea to the Pyrenees. There's a bar where you can take shelter if it's cold and have a drink! Option to stay overnight ❤️
A beautiful place with unique 360 degree views of Catalonia. The restaurant is also very good although a bit expensive
Magical place... good food and great views... recommended
Great climb, really a challenge for people doing road cycling. Average gradient of 5% with even segments being 12%! The view is very well worth the effort.
The whole of Alt Emporda at once
A beautiful 360 degree view over the region. Incredible hiking. Fantastic restaurant. Well worth the visit
Spectacular views
MDM ta trail !!!!!
The Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Mountain is reached via a narrow, winding road, but the view once you arrive is worth it. Parking is easy at the Sanctuary. Highly recommended. A visit to Sant Llorenç de Sous, located just before the Sanctuary, is a must.
Highly recommended for road cyclists who enjoy unrhythmic passes. Not recommended by car.
Excellent value for money, considering the privileged environment and 1000m altitude. Outside the weekend it is much more recommended. On weekends it is usually full. The rice with mushrooms and sausage, brutal!! Very good service, very nice atmosphere. They offer a la carte (there is no menu). To repeat!!
To go there even if it's just once. It's a paradise for butterflies and insects because of the amount of plants there. The only drawback is that there are a lot of cyclists going up there and the climb can be very long.
Spectacular views.
Very nice and good views.
We stayed one night with half board and everything was perfect. The service, the food, the views, the room... An unbeatable experience. A beautiful place, with warmth and history, since this is where Jacint Verdaguer was inspired to write El Canigó.
Spectacular views that are well worth it. I recommend going to see the sunrise or sunset. You can get there by car on a fairly narrow paved road.
Stone path but worth the climb
Incredible setting. It's worth the climb to see the views.
Precious
We have eaten there on more than one occasion, and we have always eaten there, very, very well. It is worth going up to the sanctuary, to enjoy impressive views and enjoy a good menu... Congratulations!! We will definitely be back.. us and many others..
Daily menu of €19 with local cuisine and regional products. Daily menu Expensive, but the place and the views are worth it. Recommended to go up for lunch. The place is spectacular and the restaurant is very well maintained. Excellent service from the waitress. Good place to enjoy a good breakfast/lunch with the best views of the province
very good service and great views!!
A charming place. On a clear day they say you can see Mallorca...and all the Pyrenees 360¤. The Hostatgetia preserves the room where Mossen Cinto Verdaquer was inspired by Canigó. The restaurant has quality and reasonable prices. Also a bar and cafeteria service. A place to take a break and enjoy the senses. Reservations are required...and it's worth making the journey up to the top. Cheers! 🎗
The road, as many say, is tricky; you have to drive carefully. The service at the restaurant is excellent. The views are spectacular.
Excellent service, delicious food and unbeatable indoor and outdoor surroundings8
Very pretty and a little tired.
Spectacular views of Alta Garrotcha with a winding path to get there
Amazing view. Ideal for cyclists too.
Stunning views, and the restaurant is very good. Exquisite service.
Amazing place. So quiet.
1124 m high. Spectacular views of the Empordà, Pla de l'Estany and Garrotxa. Monument to Jacint Verdaguer. Inn. For the restaurant, it is better to book. Bar service.
You eat very well and cheaply
Very good food, excellent staff and beautiful views
Breathtaking views
My brother in his splendor next to Jacint Verdaguer before leaving ❤️
Magnificent, worth the climb
Great spiritual experience above clouds. Do not miss it!
You have to go.
After visiting Besalú, I spontaneously decided to drive here. In hindsight, the drive was a bit more adventurous than anticipated. The road narrowed as you climbed, and you were constantly worried about oncoming traffic. So you trudge up at a maximum speed of 30 kilometers per hour. There are also fallen rocks on the road. But once you reach the top, you won't regret it, because the view is truly fantastic! It was a shame that the restaurant and terrace were closed (on August 1st). Then we could have had a drink and enjoyed the view more. We were the only ones on the mountain, though.
A very nice and pleasant walk.
We weren't able to visit the shrine and restaurant, which were closed. But the view is extraordinary. The very narrow road leading to it is in good condition; no problems with the car if you drive carefully.
Privileged viewpoint of the Empordà plain. Place of calm and rest.
Good views and good restaurant
Stunning 360° views of the entire area! It's a challenging hike that requires some skill, but it's worth it. There's a restaurant at the top, but nobody else was there.
UNIQUE For its views, it is one of the most magical places in the Empordà, a meeting point for believers and athletes,
Such beautiful views that we almost threw ourselves away.
Good food, good views
A very beautiful place with very good views if the sky is clear you can see the spectacular Banyoles lake and the Canigó which was snowy today. The restaurant is closed only open on eves, holidays and Friday, Saturday and Sunday. You can go up by car or on foot from Beuda which is well signposted with a difference in altitude of 800 meters
Incredible views. A thousand curves to climb but it's worth it.
The restaurant in this privileged place is highly recommended, both for the views and the food. Homemade and very well done cuisine. You should take advantage of it since the people in charge want to retire and want to transfer the restaurant, we hope that whoever takes it over will continue with the great cuisine they make! We really liked it, fantastic place!
Impressive views, good restaurant and close to Besalú to make the most of the day
Great experience!!!!😍
If you are lucky enough to have a clear day, excellent views.
Steep, narrow driveway. We had almost no oncoming traffic. Once at the top, we were rewarded with a perfect 360-degree view. The church and restaurant were closed, but it was a weekday and not very busy.
Fantastic 360 degree views, you can get there by car and also by taking a nice but moderate hike from Beuda with a considerable elevation gain but it is well worth it since you can visit the Sous Monastery on the way.
A must-see sanctuary. The views from its 1125 m height are simply spectacular! You feel like Mn Cinto while contemplating the views. You can breathe peace and serenity. It offers the possibility of eating and sleeping.
Very beautiful. Although the road is narrow and complicated, the excursion is highly recommended. We had a very good meal at the restaurant at a very reasonable price. The views are beautiful.
Spectacular place, especially for those of us who go by bike. Incredible views and a great atmosphere.
A great place, spectacular views, very good food and very friendly staff, the road with many bends go up calmly because it is a very narrow road, be careful, the place is really worth it.
A beautiful place
18km climb with some 17° inclines, once at the top you have incredible views!
We visited the Sanctuary of Our Lady of Mount. We really liked it. Incredible views, very peaceful. Too bad about the antennas. We went to have breakfast at the Sanctuary. They have a terrace with incredible views. I know they have 6 rooms. I haven't seen them, also keep in mind that if you want to have dinner, they only open during the summer season. Keep in mind that if you sleep in a van or camper and their rooms are occupied and let them know, they will make you dinner without any problems. Lovely place for the views. The Sanctuary is very beautiful. And the restaurant is on our minds. The place has a lot of history. It surprised us very pleasantly. Very simple and very friendly staff. ☺ Remember that our opinions are always personal. And as the saying goes... (there are no disputes between tastes) We are eager to go back.
It's so worth it! The viewpoint has incredible views, and the restaurant is a must! The food is delicious and the service is excellent!
Spectacular views!
It's beautiful on a sunny day
It has a fabulous view, I recommend it.
Spectacular!!
Magnificent views from this Sanctuary.
Very nice place! Excellent views!!
The place, spectacular. The restaurant, wow... The snails were average. The rice was very good, but I needed a spoonful more. No desserts. The bill was hefty, but the location apologizes.
Unbeatable views! It's worth spending a few hours at the Sanctuary. It's a shame they put Monsignor Cinto Verdaguer with his back to Canigó...
The climb is worth it, the views are worth it!
The excursion and beautiful walk to the head of the hill of the patron of the Empordà, the Marea de Déu del Mont does not disappoint at all.... Surrounded by nature, peace and tranquility every nano-second of the journey. From the view from above I can't say anything, I'm speechless.... I can even see mother Mar..😍🥰💕
Beautiful
Incredible views of our small and beautiful country
Amazing view)))
Incomparable place!
That
Incredible views! Silence and solitude. A unique space to meditate and reflect!
Correct. Pleasant service. Dining room with spectacular views. Good food. The price is a bit high, but you have to consider the location. It's worth a visit.
Magnificent views of the valley and surrounding mountains!
Considered by locals as one of the most beautiful sanctuaries in Catalonia, mainly because of its views towards the Pyrenees and the surrounding landscape and because of its link to Jacint Verdaguer, a known literary Catalan figure. Mont is an important peregrination place for over 20 villages around it. The peak can be reached by foot via different trekking trails and also by car through a long and winding road. Restaurant, bar and hostel at the top, open from Thursday to Monday.
Comment for cyclists: it is 19km from the N-260 turnoff. The first 5 km, on good asphalt, are done well and quickly, the rest is a demanding climb with long sections that do not go down between 8% and 11% towards km 14 there is a landing of about 1km. From here and up the demanding slope returns. The descent cannot be rushed due to the tight bends and the danger of meeting a car or another cyclist in the face. Hard climb but highly recommended.
Unique and special place where Jacint Verdaguer settled and was inspired by his work...with views of the Girona Pyrenees, the Garrotxa and the Costa Brava, they come true in the same place, there is also a good restaurant, hostel and a very important basilica/church to round off the day...
Beautiful place, with incredible views
Very beautiful, impressive views!
MDM, Verdaguer belt
A fantastic place to contemplate the magnificent landscape from which you can watch paragliders take off 👼 or view Lake Banyoles from above.
Rode my bicycle up from besalu without breakfast. Luckily it was saturday and the restaurant ‘el mont’ was open and serving at 1:30pm. The service and food were terrific catalan food - slow cooked beef and especially the almond ice cream. The bread was high gluten ‘water bread’ that was amazing with the aiolii. I dont know how to tell when they are open but it was a blessing for me. This isnt the very best food ive had in my life, it wasnt as good as pont vel in besalu, but it was a lot better than most ive had in spain and the views and location cannot be beat! For a famished cyclist it was a huge relief!
Spectacular views, the road is in pretty good condition, although the last few kilometers narrow quite a bit when you reach the parking area, the views more than make up for it. It's a shame about the number of antennas; it's very sad to find them in such a beautiful place.
After 18 km of winding turns on a road where you pray not to meet anyone, the reward is there. The view is breathtaking, it's a shame there are those antennas, they seriously spoil the beauty of the place. Unfortunately, we were not able to try the restaurant, it was closed. On the other hand, I strongly recommend you stop at the monastery further down, the food is beautiful.
A large terrace to enjoy the magnificent views. Catering service. In front of the entrance to the sanctuary, there is a sculpture of Mossèn Cinto Verdaguer. It is also common to see paragliders or hang gliders jumping from the parking lot. Be very careful with the access road, it is very narrow.
Beautiful views, a restaurant with an impressive glass-enclosed viewing platform, and excellent service. To go up, don't take Beuda, but San Martín.
Very nice place to visit. The road is a bit peculiar and too narrow in some places but I'm left wanting to eat there. Brutal 360 views
Spectacular views. Space dedicated to Father Cinto Verdaguer
👍😎
A simple, medium-sized sanctuary, the services of the attached hostel are good, the view magnificent, but the communication towers have spoiled the view of the whole.
The place is magical and beautiful, but the restaurant is a disappointment. The owners changed a year ago, and it's nothing like it used to be. They no longer have an à la carte menu, only a set menu, and the price is far too high for the quality (€35). Driving here to eat is no longer worth it.
In short, and importantly, there are three 5G antennas within 500 meters of the accommodation. Two of them are right in front, less than 100 meters from the room where I stayed. I don't think it's ethical to promote this space for tourism. I booked it through Booking.com, but not a single photo or reference to this topic. The restaurant is only for lunch; for dinner, the bar is only open. Check-in starts at 7 p.m., and they won't let you leave before then because they say it's closed. My experience was a disaster: the view from my room was right in front of the antennas. To make matters worse, there were no blinds or curtains. Horrible, we felt cheated.
Magnificent view of the site, but a terrible restaurant!!! First, a glass of bad white wine at the upstairs bar, then a meal in the dining room overlooking Besalu. A starter, porcini mushroom croquettes, passable at €8, followed by grilled lamb (three pathetic pieces), with a bad chlorine taste and full of salt. The supposedly 500-gram rib-eye steak, which is at most 250 grams, served with fries, for €17, was not great at all. In short, bring a picnic, because this restaurant is very bad and expensive (we were the only customers), and the welcome was rather frosty.
We ate worms with very unpleasant rice. For views and everything else spectacular.
