Opinions de Alchemist Coffee Project at the Pearl Los Angeles
Regardless of how expensive their coffee is, they are hands down the best coffee you will find in Koreatown. If you are a first timer, I highly recommend the alchemy cold brew or a hot caramel latte with oat milk. My personal favorite on a hot summer day morning is iced matcha with oat milk sweetened with agave. It’s a bit expensive ($7.25) considering the fact that they serve this in a 16 oz. cup, I’ll let them break my bank account because it’s that good. I normally don’t check my receipts but I happened to check my receipt today and noticed that they charged me for “for here” tax when I was taking my drinks to go. The cashier girl (who seemed to be new) asked me 3 times whether I was planning on dining in or getting my food to go, and I told her that it’s for “to go” and she still charged me the “for here” tax. People make mistakes but I did want to point that out. They are now open for indoor dining just FYI. They do validate parking in the parking structure (I think 90 minutes) or you can find metered street parking (2 hr max). Metered parking Monday through Saturday, but street parking is free on Sundays. I noticed bunch of cars with parking tickets so make sure you put in enough coins if you are planning on utilizing the street parking. Just a small note on the below naive comment about feeding the left over food to the homeless people, yes, there are homeless people starving in the streets in Koreatown but alchemist is a food establishment that’s required BY LAW to take security measures to ensure they are selling SAFE food for human consumption. There’s a thing called a “bacterial growth” on food where if you leave the food at a room temperature for a certain period of time, bacteria will grow on the food and will no longer be safe to consume. Hence, sure, alchemist can dispose all of their left over food to homeless people in the street of Koreatown but what’s going to happen if one of those homeless people decide to sue them after eating spoiled sandwich? What if they get closed down by LA public health department for serving spoiled food? Just something to think about before leaving a 1 star review.
They have their measurements dialed in! Great coffee (Iced Americano ) not muddy, good ratio, no cream or sugars needed. Signature coffee (creme brulee latte) is a great treat not too sweet or artificial. A great balance. Raspberry tart is among the best I have ever had. The crust was firm tastful. Filling sweet and creamy topped with the perfect amount of raspberries to bite ratio. Thank you guys
Great space with very good coffee (the espresso I got in my last visit was from Onyx roasters). The service staff is chill, and they seem to have quite a few pastry options, including Roman maritozzo, which is very rare to find. 🤌🏼 The space is large enough to comfortably chill with a friend or get some work done, and they also sell merch which is pretty cool. Definitely a great coffee option in LA.
The store seemed quite busy when we visited. But I enjoyed the bustle of the coffee shop. I ordered the tiramisu latte—I loved it. The balance of coffee, cream, and sweetness was perfect for my tastebuds. I wish there was a location closer to home because I would go everyday for it! Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. Great ambiance with a unique interior. Fantastic service—the barista at the front was patient and spoke clearly. And most importantly, an awesome coffee experience.
This place is soooo pretty! From the inside to the outside, everything is so clean and pleasing to the eye. My partner and I ordered the Crème Brûlée cake and macrons and they were SO tasty it is absolutely worth trying!! We also ordered a crème brûlée latte and lavender matcha with oat milk and their drinks are also tasty. The overall vibe, the flavor of the desserts, and the coffee make this place worth visiting.
Great atmosphere, nice restroom as well :) Some coffee shops in LA don’t even have restrooms
The vibe here is cozy and inviting, perfect for a quiet coffee break or a casual meet-up. The baristas are friendly and know their craft, serving up rich, flavorful brews that hit the spot. The seating is comfortable, and the decor has a rustic charm that adds to the overall experience. It’s a great spot to unwind or get some work done without feeling rushed. Definitely worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Lovely, thorough and helpful staff when it comes to allergies. Easy parking, lots of tables and very good drinks.
The coffee was excellent! Trendy American coffee shop vibe in Korea Town.
It’s a puzzling esthetic but as I sat down, enjoyed my coffee, and took into the actual vibe of the coffee shop, I kinda got it. Sitting inside, I felt I was outside a coffee brewery on a cloudy sad day. The 80’s music playing definitely made me reminisce of Midwest rainy days with little to no sun. I appreciated it more the more I put my head up and looked around instead of on my phone. I got a vanilla type iced espresso (einsplainer sp?) with focaccia prosciutto small plate. Both were tasty and added to my experience in the shop.
I was back in town visiting a friend. On our last morning we decided to grab some coffee and maybe a croissant for the ride home. The space was very open, clean, and a great place to come in with your laptop and get some work done while drinking your coffee. The cashier was friendly and answered all of our questions and I was also trying to find a gluten free option for food for my wife. We wanted to try a few items on the menu. We ordered the Misugaru Latte and the Tiramisu Latte. The Misugaru Latte was a black sesame oat latte. It was on point and was delicious. the only thing I would order differently next time would to add another shot of espresso to it. I am not exactly sure but maybe because of the sesame and grain mix, the drink itself was a bit thicker. Don't let this deter you, order this latte. The Tiramisu lived up to the consistency and taste. Both lattes were not overly sweet and the coffee did shine. We also ordered the GF Financier and I ordered an everything bagel with cream cheese. Now, I am a cream cheese lover and the amount of cream cheese was just what I wanted. Spot on for me! Next time I'm back in KTown I will definitely be back.
This is one of my favorite coffee shops in Ktown and been going here ever since they opened :) I noticed they came out with their summer special drinks and got the matcha creme brûlée and wow I was so impressed with the quality of this drink. This beats any double matcha that just opened. The sweetness of this drink is just perfect. I’m someone who doesn’t like drinks that are on the sweeter side. This matcha drink also has 7 grams of matcha which I prefer my matcha strong. I hope they keep this drink and it’s not just summer special that will end this month because it’s just THAT GOOD :) Thank you Jonathan for recommending this drink!! Can’t wait to come back and try all the other summer drinks. You can tell how much thought and effort was put into the drinks as well which I appreciate it.
Great place to start your day with. I’m not a big coffee person so i got the matcha einspanner which is a matcha latte with cream on top. So delicious! And everyone else in my friend group got coffee/lattes, they all love their drinks! They ordered another round of lattes for the day. The barista is also super nice and we felt welcomed.
I absolutely adored this cafe! Their matcha lavender latte was hands down one of the best matchas I've ever had. But what truly blew me away was their lavender milk tea – it was one of the best drinks I've ever tasted. The cafe itself was charming, and the service was top-notch. If I could, I would give it 10 stars – it's easily one of the best cafes I've ever visited.
Great coffee!! And unique options The service is always great too And food options include full meals like sandwiches which is nice only thing that’s slightly annoying is sometimes it’s super busy. But if you can find a spot, then good wfh spot
This is a precious cafe that makes beautiful wave-patterned lattes with silky milk foam and espresso made with high-quality coffee beans. It's a place with friendly service that makes worthy to drive extra miles to get a cup of coffee.
This was on my list of ktown coffee shops to hit — definitely a gem. It’s modern and got a black and wooden, classy interior look with cute light bulbs hanging in the ceiling. The architecture is pleasing. The food and drink were really good too — I had the lavender matcha latte and it was the right sweetness, with oat milk. You could definitely taste the hint of lavender which I appreciated because I’ve had lavender matchas that didn’t taste any different from matcha lattes. I also had the kimchi avocado toast — the avocado was super fresh, and the toast was crisp and loaded with kimchi and avocado and the other toppings. It was a nice original touch to the avocado toast. My friend had the cold brew and truffle avocado toast and she liked it as well. It gets busy right before noon; we came at an earlier time (10 ish) and there wasn’t too big of a line. It has a few outdoor seating spots, outlets inside (against the walls) so it definitely is a place where you can do work but it could also be too crowded for some people. Parking situation is okay — I think there might be parking for the shop specifically but it might be through a garage or valet; we parked meters on the street. Would highly recommend visiting this coffee shop in ktown for the avocado toast! Great place to catch up with friends
Sleek and hip cafe serving up classics and quirkier items. The lavender matcha and tiramisu latte were both really good! The vegan blueberry coffee cake was a highlight as well. It’s busy but the line moves quite quickly and there’s a good amount of seating. The staff are very easygoing and helpful. Definitely worth hitting up while in LA.
Fantastic sweet iced mocha latte. Ready fast. Good place to work on a laptop. Plenty of plugs at the big community table. Variety of types of seating ; which I love.
One of my favorite coffee shops in K-Town To begin, the main thing - the coffee - is quality here. They pay great attention to the ratios and use a fresh modern roast supplied by Onyx Coffee Roasters out of Bentonville, AR (an award winning roaster if I must say 😄). I always try a cappuccino as my litmus for various coffee shops and their ratios and roasts hit the modern roasting trajectory on point. Parking: There is a validated garage around the corner on Hobart. Charging and wifi: Yes on both accounts and with plenty of outlets available Size: Spacious with a good deal of natural light - it's a cool and clean environment but not on the artistic edge Restrooms: Yes and consistently clean Food: I would recommend their breakfast sandwich and their pastries are always fresh I would definitely return (and have been haha) - If you go let me know your thoughts!

to us: We got the tiramisu latte and the earl grey milk tea. For food, we got spinach croissant and spam musabi croissant. to others: I know this place is famous for their tiramisu latte, but I thought it was a too bitter to have a clean taste for a coffee. It kinda overpowers the espresso too much. I thought their early grey milk tea was significant better choice. My wife liked the croissant but the kimchi croissant was a bit saltier for a light snack. to owners: nice little place with great service. The edge seats are not being utilized because people overcrowd the tables. Something to think about
Good shop. Young vibe. They have some interesting drinks and def an urban look. Employees use masks which makes sense. There is also a shield which makes sense. Small speed bump I had is that I couldn’t hear them when ordering bc the house music was on the louder side. My guess is people younger would hear fine or better. My 49 yo ears had to ask several times and talk around the shield to hear. In our instant reaction, some would describe this as hating on the shop. For me, it’s a very small item. I would def come back and def tip the employees for their quick and great service. Nice long table to chill and get some work done. Steady stream of people so that’s a good sign. They also have a wall dedicated to Pablo’s book. Thx alchemist. Keep up the good work.
This establishment exudes a pleasant ambiance, making it an ideal location for individuals seeking a conducive environment to work. While the coffee I sampled, namely the Vanilla Einspänner, did not particularly impress me, I would still consider returning to try other coffee options if I happen to be in the vicinity. However, I do not foresee myself becoming a regular customer.
Killer Cookie; Badass Brownie; Partner loves this place. Although I didn’t enjoy my Latte, I didn’t order what I should have. Cannot fault a place for serving what I ordered knowing I probably wouldn’t like it. Either this isn’t a place for me and that’s okay or I did it wrong and need a redo. I hope the latter. This is a place for the adventurous spirit in all things. Coffee isn’t that thing for me. I have expectations borne from many travels and throughout them all, I don’t recall coffee being treated so very differently. Concoctions inspired by coffee is how I perceive Alchemy Coffee - and for that they do awesomely. I will try them again and again, experimenting with their wares and offerings until I find the correct concoction to suit my discerning tastes. Why? Because this is a place that puts effort into every aspect, from decor to drinks. It all works without an overly kitschy feel. Thus, I believe that Alchemy Coffee to be deserving the same effort from their patronage. Engage in culinary experiments and discern all that they have for yourself. Remember that you’ll not always order what you want and to adjudicate appropriately. Hope to give a 5Star review in the future.
Koreatown’s been buzzing lately, with trendy restaurants and coffee shops popping up all over the place. We’ve hit up a bunch of the popular spots around here, but on a recent visit through the neighborhood, we stumbled across The Alchemist, a super chic coffee shop. I grabbed a matcha latte, and it was solid—smooth, not overly sweet, just how I like it. They’ve got a tempting lineup of pastries too, though I didn’t try them this time. The vibe? Awesome. The place was packed with people chatting and soaking in the lively atmosphere. Service was friendly and quick, which sealed the deal. Definitely a spot worth checking out if you’re in K-town!
Compared to the original store in Vermont, this location has a nice, modern, young vibe. Lots of seats inside that are great for doing a little bit work. There are also a few small tables outside. I came here a couple of times. Once I had a flat white, it tasted good but the presentation can be better; the other time I tried their signature New Orleans cold brew. I didn't expect much about this pre-sweetened milky cold brew, but wow was it good. Silky, intense, sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. I loved it and totally understand why it is such a popular pick.
nice productive place. if you need plugs, just find seats near them. it gets pretty packed. good coffee and they have a self service station for water and etc too! the avocado bacon croissant was huge but could be tastier
3.5 stars. Busy coffee shop with lots of working individuals. It’s loud and it can be hard to find seating. They have good options of seats, it’s just becomes a waiting game during their busy hours. Drink - I got the matcha latte with light ice and they fill 70% of the cup with drink and 30% is ice. With light ice, they left decent amount of room on top. I first got it with no sweetber and it was so bland so I asked for sweetner. Matcha latte was below average. Wouldn’t recommend it. Menu - average menu with no speciality drinks or food items. They do offer macaroons and mouse cake. Price - above average. The price for the sandwiches is overpriced and the drinks are also above average compared to other local cafes with the same drinks. Location - it’s conviniently located on a major street so it’s easy to locate but there’s no parking. limited street metered parking Staff - they try to work fast and is kind Cleanliness - tables aren’t wiped down but it could also be because a seat is always getting taken.
Cute and trendy coffee and tea shop. Great simple design. Service good, but slightly impersonal. Pastries and desserts are not made in house; however they do get desserts from Artelice Patisserie and they are unbelievably delicious. Drinks are good too. Must try.

After Korean BBQ in Ktown, we didn't want to venture too far for some after-meal drinks. Friend suggested Alchemist Coffee Project nearby and it was only a street over with covered parking, so we were in! It was a packed house on Black Friday afternoon, but luckily after we all finished ordering, some people were leaving so we were able to find a table to fit all five of us. I haven't seen this too often at other coffee shops, so I ordered the iced tiramisu latte with 2% milk ($7.75). The mascarpone cream sold me. Delicious latte, but got a bit too sweet for me towards the end. Make sure to get your parking validated for free 90 minutes of parking!
Got their coffee twice before. My partner really likes the tiramisu latte and the creme brûlée latte. I’m not necessarily a fan of the coffee or the matcha einspeinner. It’s decent/but not memorable for the price. The matcha tasted watery at first and didn’t really taste like anything until the last 2 sips, only the remnants tasted creamy.

On the expensive side, but the coffee is really good! I got their Columbia drip coffee, and my palate was very pleased with the taste notes mentioned in their description. And, I must say that their chicken pesto panini was also very yummy. But, I’ve noticed that their sandwiches don’t taste consistent, which is something they could work on.
I had high expectations for this establishment. However, the limited selection of non-dairy beverages and the absence of options for “less caffeine” were disappointing. TI had high hopes for this establishment, but the limited selection of non-dairy beverages and the lack of options for “less caffeine” were disappointing. The staff wasn’t generally able to help. When I asked for sweetened matcha (normally unsweetened), I had to visit again to get it modified. Despite these minor issues, the establishment maintains a tranquil ambiance, making it a potential gathering spot.
I guess people like this coffee shop because it looks different than a Starbucks. I just had their large ice americano and it tasted a bit sour. Usually this means that the brew was too short lived. There were many folks studying and doing work on their devices and the shop provides Wi-Fi and many power outlets. I guess for Koreatown it is better than average for those who want a quiet place to work. Parking is bad since it is downtown area. Drinks are about 20% more than your Starbucks drinks.
Loved the atmosphere & staff! Super friendly and very beautiful space. Got the matcha einspanner & tiramisu latte, both were okay. Matcha tasted like water at first but then you start to acclimate to it when you mix in the sweet cream. Others agreed it was sort of grainy tasting. Tiramisu latte was better but still watery. Pastries on the other hand were amazing! We got the Dubai chocolate, chocolate macrons, caneles & a coffee crumb cake! Highly recommend any of those pastries they’re all so good! I’d give this place another chance if I’m in the area.
