Great experience at Bourbon Raw. Dinner was amazing and perfect place for large groups. What was supposed to be a date night became a group dinner and they were able to accommodate gracefully. Our entire table of 8 had different meals and everyone was pleased :) Look forward to visiting again
Fantastic dinner. Would go back if in the area again. Food was all cooked just right with great flavor.
Good selection of drinks, limited but good options in food menu and food is really really cheap here if you look at the quality and taste. Food is delicious. Nice place to eat and drink.
Seafood, Southern food, and bourbon make for a wonderful dining experience! We tried several items from the menu and loved everything. Our service was very good.
The waitress was excellent. They seated our party of 18 quickly. The food was excellent! The waitress suggested the spare ribs and they were perfect! She also suggested a wood-smoked old fashioned that was amazing
Wait staff is amazing! Shrimp and Grits, Bourbon glazed, kabobs, seafood was 5 Stars. I am a bit of a foodie and am very picky. Bourbon Raw deserves a full 5 plus stars. Ambiance is incredible and from the moment we walked in the Matre de and wait staff were exceptionally dedicated and attentive. This is my new 4th Street Live best kept secret!
Great food. I tried the shrimp and grits on the recommendation of our waiter. Loved it. Very tasty. I would recommend it to anybody.
Top notch food and drink selection, staff is helpful and knowledgable. I would recommend and go back on my next trip.
A classy joint! Service was great. They just updated their menus 10 days ago. The scallops on polenta in a cream sauce were wonderful. The bartender clued me in to the Angel's Envy Rye which was also very good. I went at the recommendation of a friend and would go back again
My wife and I had New Years eve dinner there. The service was spectacular and the food even better. Highly recommend for date night or first date if you want to impress your mate. They have a laundry list of Bourbons for you connoisseurs. Will definately be visiting soon.
Great drinks and appetizers! Friendly staff and prompt service. Excellent shrimp and fantastic pork sliders. Mint juleps fit for a Kentucky Colonel. With service and food this good, we'll be back with our appetites for the full dinner experience very soon.
Overall great time! The goat cheese skillet was amazing. A few friends and I went for drinks after work. They had a great happy hour cheap drinks and appetizers. Curtis, the bartender, was very attentive and friendly. Will be going back!
Such a friendly staff! And the food is awesome! My favorite is the burger with an add on of Goat cheese and Avocado I ordered mine medium rare it was superb! I've had the seafood pasta its lovely and their take on the Hot Brown loved it! Fish tacos are super good as well! The chicken dinner is very nice too. Also LOVE the dry rub ribs very tasty! There is something everyone will love on the Menu! Such a beautiful Restaurant as well. Drinks wise Love it! I've had bourbon shots. The Shrub Down I loved! Tequila me Softly is my favorite! I really enjoy their Bloody Mary and Margaritas as well.
Had a great experience here with a a friendly server and food turned out good. It wasnt very busy that night so they got everything out fast for our large table. The drinks were good and tasted great. However, at the end of the night we split up our bill and the waitress got it wrong 3 times. We finally gave up and just sorted it out later ourselves.
Good food , not great , but the service is great. It’s fun to sit outside and people watch from their street side seating area.
Stopped for drink. Bartenders friendly and drinks at bar good. The Smoked Old Fashion is delicious!!!
Great selection of fine bourbon. Waiter messed up our flights so we were not sure we got what we paid for.
We went there for our 1 year anniversary and sat outside for the scenery which was a good choice. The staff was great and the appetizer deep fried artichoke hearts was phenomenal! I got a steak and ordered it medium which is how it was served. The steak was scrumptious. My husband got the lobster which is his usual favorite but was disappointed and shared my steak. The salad was very good as I got the lettuce wedge. My husband tried the bourbon sampler and was pleased. The cost was 106.00 and with a 100.00 gift card it cost us 6.00 plus tip. We had a Groupon certificate which cost 40.00 for 100.00 certificate. I don't think we would pay full price but the appetizer and drinks would be good to go for.
Everyone raved about their the quality of the food. I had the snapper & oyster; others: lobster tail, steak filets (x4), fried chicken, fish fry, goat cheese&pitas. Bourbon punch was decent, not worth 10$, though. Service was good, but slow.
I visited on a Saturday about 3pm. There wasn't much of a wait which was nice. The setting was nice. I had a "hot brown" sandwich which was decent. I wouldn't say amazing but it was worth the price.
Drinks and fried green tomatoes where amazing! Dinner menu however is overpriced..lacking in flavor and portion size.. I suggest this only for drinks, atmosphere and appetizers.
Our food was okay. Nothing bad. Nothing exceptional especially for the rather high prices. Service was friendly but slow and not very attentive. My son ordered a burger with avocado. The waitress said I'll bring your avocado right out. 15 minutes later, she brings them. He had already finished the burger. She only had 2 other tables. No reason to have to wait forever for everything. Refills, condiments, food, our check. We waited over 50 minutes for our food. The restaurant was not very crowded, there was no wait. Maybe 4 or 5 other occupied tables. It was okay. Been there, done that, We likely won't be returning. Wouldn't be on my list of recommendations for anyone. Overpriced and underwhelming. This city is full of great restaurants. This one is not great.
Guest experience was good. Food was below expectations for a date night. Order small plate Chicken & Waffles Tacos. Don't know how you not execute a waffle but they did manage to mess it up, grateful wait staff had it taken off bill when it really should not have been served to us. Wife ordered Fried Chicken. Breading on the chicken was amateur but wife look liked it. I had the Ribs with sweet potato fries. Ribs were good. The fries would have bee good but was served with ketchup. Ordering drinks from the specialty menu was hit & miss as not everything was available.
Overall, it was just OK. In the private room for a party, service was good-attentive but I had to ask the waitstaff to please bring out tongs for appetizers being served. Food was not refilled in a timely manner. Drinks were good. When dinner was later ordered in the dining room, the service was not as good. Ran out of our drinks more than once. Food was OK but not very hot when served and overpriced. Server was not very attentive.
8pm on a Saturday night during Thunder Over Louisville and the place was dead. Maybe 6 tables occupied in the main dining room total. Not sure if the employees were outside watching the fireworks or what, but the service was incredibly slow. Drinks were good, but the food was mediocre. Dry rub for the wings is just store-bought seasoned salt. One person's Shrimp Cocktail was not deveined - GROSS! Another's Shrimp and Grits (recommended by waiter) was just one big clump of grits. Almost like cornbread. Burger was tasty though. Overall, the experience was just not aligned with the price.
Great atmosphere. Food tasted very good. However, the portion size is very small on the Shrimp & Grits. For the price of the dish there should have been more grits/sauce. It was barely a lunch portion, and it was supper that we ordered at 7:30 pm. I was still hungry after eating it. When we mentioned it to the waiter, he did offer a free dessert, but I wanted to feel satisfied by eating my main course, not by eating a dessert. I felt ripped off because for a $27 dish, they really did skimp on the portion size.
The kitchen @ Bourbon Raw is gross and I know this for a fact!!!!! The food isn’t seasoned as well, but for the prices it needs to be! I definitely wouldn’t recommend eating here, but having a few drinks is acceptable. I gave them two stars b/c the service isn’t bad and the drinks are good.
Atmosphere is nice. Ordered the fish sampler which was suppose to be catfish, cod, and shrimp. The fish were cut into such small strips once they were put into the fryer I couldn’t even tell if there was fish inside the batter. Tasted like nothing more than batter. There was a single shrimp on the plate. Poorly executed plate that was significantly overpriced for what it was.
When searching specifically for seafood lunch this place should not show up unless you want a fish taco. The service was good and the place is lovely but their lunch menu is tiny and doesn’t offer much. Would probably have been great for dinner, but if you’re wanting lunch just walk another direction
The place had a beautiful atmosphere, but when it came to food it was a let down. I went for a birthday party and it was only 1 server for the whole party of 20. I had the salmon and it was dry, but covered in a yum spicy bbq sauce. My spouse had the catfish which was only fried on one side. It was hard to get the waiter to come back to our area to say something about the food. When the lady next to me stated she did not want her food due to presentation and taste he hurried to take the plate and walked away. He didn't say anything else the rest of the evening to my end of the table. Several other things occurred, but the detail given is enough. Compared to the website and then in person. I was disappointed.
I would not return to this restaurant. It wasn't terrible, but not great. The cheese plate was pathetic. The country ham was entirely fatty, and the cheese was nothing special. Just some feta and deli sliced provolone. Very disappointed. The burger was good, but the bacon was less than crispy. My daughter did enjoy her salad. We were there on a Monday before noon, so hardly anyone around. They certainly had more than enough time to cook the bacon correctly. The fries were fine, but could also have been crispier.
This review is a week delayed as I finally have time and a baseline to compare it to. It is over priced and not worthy of a meal. The two things this place has going for it are its bourbon selection and appetizers. The bourbon/cocktails were made with time and care and the oysters were divine. All of that said the main courses came out cold and I had a fish sampler which I could not tell one fried piece of water living creature to another. The hot brown was more of two pieces of toast with a little gravy slathered over it. This place needs to figure out its strengths and run with it. For the money I would recommend spending a extra 5-10$ a plate and go to a steak house around the corner. If your in town for bourbon and need a snack swing by. If not don't waste your time or money.
The service was okay but wow. For a vegan, this was a difficult place to eat. I came in with my Omni family and the AWESOME waitress suggested some pasta sans seafood- I ordered it, plus about $100 of wine. The kitchen put cheese on it. I ended up sending it back and waited about 20 minutes for the replacement. I ended up asking the waitress to just give it to me to go as the rest of my party had already finished their food and their plates cleared. She brought me my to-go box and I tried one bite which was gummy and undercooked extremely- I'm not always in the kitchen but I know how to make pasta and it only takes 8 minutes to boil angel hair pasta to be of eating quality. the waitress was awesome and took the pasta off my bill and I hit a Burger King on the way home to get the impossible Burger. Everyone else was totally fine with their food, but if you have a restricted diet understand that this restaurant will take longer to serve you and has a very limited options.
The shrimp cocktail and raw oysters were FABULOUS. Leave after your appetizer. Waited an hour an fifteen minutes for a bad rib eye sandwich, awful service where the server barely checked on us. I was with a party of six, and no one found their entree worthwhile. We were tempted to go across the street and get pizza and bring it back to our table. Save your money. The art on the walls isn't even any good.
Not a good experience.. for a place that's a little on the expensive side they should try better. Bar was understaffed so service was slow.. mixed drink was not stout at all.. The corn was cold and the salad was dry with cheap dried bacon bits and runny blue cheese dressing. The Kentucky fried steak was nicely seasoned but was made with skirt steak.. For the price go somewhere else. The reason it got 2 stars was because of the decor..
Never Again. I gave it two stars because it's a great location. Nothing else about the evening was good. The service was extremely slow, and the restaurant was not busy at all. Which I guess should have been our first clue considering it was a Friday night at 7 p.m. . The wedge salad I ordered was old lettuce with that copper coloring to it and tasted bitter and the spring mix in the house salad my husband ordered was just as bad. The drink I ordered a plain bourbon old fashioned with Maker's Mark tasted horrible. How do you mess up an old fashioned in Louisville? Our entree came, we said we wanted to split the 14 oz ribeye done medium rare. They brought us a half a rack of ribs split for two people? Seriously? So they went back to the kitchen and requested the proper food. When the steak finally arrived it was raw inside it was so raw cold that the butter they put on top of it wasn't even melted a little. So that had to be remade when we finally got our steak cooked to the correct temperature it was a little tough but the seasoning was quite good. Overall will never go nack.
The atmosphere was great but the food just wasn’t very good! Everything was terribly bland and needed salt. The hot chicken sandwich was not even close to being hot, the chicken breast was very dry and the bun needed to be toasted. My husband’s Hot Brown wasn’t much better. It was not an open face sandwich as would be expected and the Mornay sauce tasted like raw flour. I don’t think there was any cheese in it at all. The blue cheese coleslaw didn’t have any detectable blue cheese it tasted like wet cabbage. Everything desperately needed salt, and guess what, there was not a single salt shaker to be had. To the “chef” if you are not going to season the food at least allow the customers to have access to a salt shaker. Are you on some mission to help your customers remove sodium from their diets? Also, unless you are going to do something exceptionally well, don’t try to rethink it! The Hot Brown should be open face (oh and it should have cheese...and salt)!
My boyfriend and I came in last night on a whim because the wait times at other 4th St. locations were long, which was around 7:30. We were seated immediately, and the restaurant wasn't busy (it later picked up, closer to 9). We waited almost an hour for our food to come out, and the steak I ordered was cooked well done (hard to even cut) when I had asked for medium well. I decided not to send it back because we had already waited so long for the food to even come out. Portions were small, I left hungry, and I felt guilty that my boyfriend paid so much for the service and food we received. I ran completely out of water with my drink, and it was finally refilled at the end of the meal when we were about to leave. Not impressed with this place at all.
I'm only giving Bourbon Raw one star, because I can't give it negative stars! If you want your food thrown at you or your order totally disregarded and or forgotten, with terrible service, this is definitely where you should go! We went in with a group of 7 and from the beginning we were treated as if we were disturbing the employees play time. Our waitress was rude from the beginning and acted as if taking our order was nothing but a big problem. I ordered an appetizer which was never delivered, even after everyone else in my party had been served. When it was brought to her attention, she actually yelled across the room and wanted to know, what was missing. She finally offered to bring it to me, very disrespectfully. I politely declined at that point because her attitude was awful. A gentleman in our party ordered the dry rub ribs and they were terrible. The ribs were very dry, actually boiled with some dry seasoning dumped on top. For the costs of the food you would think they would at least make it palatable and at the very least, bring you your order. Then to add insult to injury they automatically add 20% gratuity, so the waitress (?) received a tip for being rude, obnoxious and wasting our evening when we could have gone somewhere that would have appreciated our patronage and helped us have an enjoyable evening. If you want good food and an enjoyable atmosphere I suggest you steer clear of Bourbon Raw. RUN don't walk away from this place!
Was ignored at the bar. They were not busy and the guy behind the bar acted as though we were bothering him. Nice place but staff needs a customer service refresh-
Here for IM Louisville. The service was fair but the kitchen was terrible. We are a party of five who arrived with a fairly empty restaurant at 5:45. Drinks took forever and the food look way longer. The restaurant filled up and while we were waiting for food we notice that only one table in the entire restaurant had food. Our food arrived and everything was overcooked cold and simply not good. My wife got the shrimp and grits. Simply put, it is a appetizer with three shrimp and a drizzle of grits. According to our server, "the delay was because the shrip and grits where not ready". There was one positive. The small batch bourbon flight was good. Go for drinks only, and be patient!
Our server Tiffany and the celebration sundae was great other then that was disappointed. Food and drinks are over priced for what you get. The cherries in the old fashion tasted like cough syrup. The items on the raw bar did not look fresh.
In town for work and not knowing where to go chose this place. Looked deserted or closed. Walked in and noticed the chef sitting down and the bartender cleaning glasses. Placed order for ribeye, potatoes and I forgot the other side. Steak sub par and they don’t have bone in steaks. The potatoes were very strange looking to me. Had to put salt in steak barely seasoned. Wouldn’t go back nor recommend.
A 1 star because it wouldn’t let me give 0. Came in at around 3pm on a Friday. Waitress was very cookie cutter like and had no personality. Waited exactly 32 minutes before our food arrived meanwhile the restaurant was empty. No reason for us to have waited that long when there were literally no one else in the building. Another couple came in and sat at the bar and left soon after when they were never acknowledged by the staff. Food was very mediocre. Definitely should’ve gone somewhere else. Wished There was a way I could upload pictures to show that the only other table in the restaurant that was occupied was occupied by their own staff doing god knows what instead of taking care of their customers. Very surprised this place is still open
We did not have a good experience and I would not recommend this place to anyone. We had a large party and we're seated in the side room. Service started mediocre and only got worse. Best guess since 20% gratuity was included in our bill up front, there was no motivation for service. We ordered a couple appetizers which were pretty good but once we finally ordered our entrees, which we had to ask if we could order, it took almost an hour for our food to be served. I ordered a steak, medium rare, and it came out very well done. No sign of even any pink in the middle. We all speculated our meals sat under a heat lamp for a long time. I tried my gf's meal, the fish fry, and it was almost room temperature and pretty dry. Again I would attribute it to sitting under a heat lamp for a long while. At best the food is mediocre and over priced.
I was surprised that my experience was not good at all. This was my first time at Makers Mark and I was so disappointed. First, we were given time to look at the menu to see what we wanted to order. When the waitress came back, we let her know what we wanted and she told us that one of our choices was not available, and that there were several things on the menu that were not available. I thought maybe that is something she could have told us prior to us looking at the menu. Then I ordered the fried chicken. Unfortunately, when it came out my chicken was seriously overcooked!. Burned in some spots. I had a tiny scoop of mashed potatoes that were very dry and tasted like instant potatoes (yuck!).. The only good thing on the plate were the greens. I felt that for $24 for fried chicken EVERYTHING should have been exceptional as this is supposed to be an upscale restaurant. Wont be back.. And don’t recommend.
Worst experience ever. I took my Grandson out for his 22 Birthday Dinner with a party of seven and I was so disappointed. Not only was the portion size awful, some of the food was cold. One of our party’s food came out 25 minutes before everyone else’s. For the price of 252 we all should of been happy and fully satisfied. Ive tried to get in touch with the manager about our experience, and have yet to be contacted.
Would like to start by saying the bartender was awesome. Cocktails were delicious! Was super disappointed, however, by both the food & management. Upon arriving the manager, who was dishelved & wearing flip flops, was arguing with the host because she had clearly cut too many employees (poor bartender was doing most FOH service). We ordered a dozen oysters, in which 18 came out... Likely because they were old & trying to clear them out. As we prepared to eat them, the fishy smell & dried out texture were so overpowering we decided not to take the chance of getting food poisoning & returned them. The bartender handled it the best that she could with a busy section & no support from her manager. Genuinely hope she finds a better place to use her skills!
My wife and myself, as well as my best friend and her partner had a terrible experience. The first issue is that we waited at least 45 minutes until we got our drinks. We gave them the benefit of the doubt, because my best friend and I have both waited tables, and it was a holiday: the cups brought to one of our guests and was filthy and had to ask for a new one, we were not refilled with water, cups were not removed from the table, and we waited another 10-15 minutes to be able to put in our appetizers. The appetizers were all delicious. However, the food in general is overpriced for the quality. The salads were not cleaned properly, we were served ALL vein lettuce. The Seviche didn’t even have salt or cilantro, yet was overpowered by jalapeños to the point you could barely taste the teaspoon of seafood in it. Not to mention the tortilla chips that were served with it were store bought, not fresh. Once we received our main courses, which was 35-45 min later, and still incorrect, we were then told that they ran out of the sides we had originally ordered. My wife and myself have been to several, upscale restaurants, across Louisville, and this was by far the worst experience we’ve had yet. My Salmon was dry, my wife was given a New York strip instead of a Rib Eye, and tried to convince us that it was a Rib Eye. The steak was HALF fat. Two of us at the table ordered has brown casserole, one was over salted and wet, and the other way dry and had no seasoning, not even salt. Same thing happened with the macaroni and cheese; one was dry and the other was fine. There is no consistency in the food or service. We will try again in a few months and pray that it was just the holiday pressure or a bad cook who needs to be replaced.
Very disappointing experience tonight. Ordered the goat cheese skillet which were supposed to have cremini mushrooms. I think I found one in there. Entree was a $33 seafood pasta with shrimp, scallops and mussels. It had 6 over cooked/dry mussels, 3 over cooked shrimp and 1 scallop. My friend ordered a side of haricot verts which are supposed to be thin French green beans. He was served regular green beans. I have been in food service for over 30 years and I hate being so disappointed at a restaurant especially with the prices at Bourbon Raw. Service was not much better then the food. The food runner came to the table with four entees and no tray stand. He did not know where the entrees went and tried to pass them across the table. I have never done this before, but my tip reflected my experience.
