Opinions de Café Astor Medellin
Hands down, some of the best chocolate in the world. I first stopped into Astor for a cool drink and ended up ordering a lemonade with a cookie — a Linzer tart, which happens to be one of my favorite cookies. Anytime I see a Linzer tart in a display case, I have to try it. It’s my quiet benchmark, always measured against the goodness of my mother’s version. This one absolutely held its own. After the lemonade and cookie, I went out to wander the promenade and do a bit of shopping, but the rain came quickly and I ran right back inside Astor. I grabbed a table by the entrance so I could watch people rushing by, escaping the rain. I ordered a chicken soup that turned out to be surprisingly delicious, and paired it with a Frappuccino that was icy, cool, and deeply chocolatey. I finished with a chocolate heart bonbon, which, once again, did not disappoint. Before leaving, I bought several boxes of chocolates to bring back to Florida for my mother and friends. If you’re into chocolate, confections, cakes, and just genuinely good food, this is a place not to miss. It should be one of your first stops when you’re in Medellín.
My experience here is only for breakfast as a tourist, that being said, I would highly recommend this place for people that want an international-ish/European style breakfast with high quality local ingredients, and a pinch of the local flavours in between. The atmosphere is as good as it gets, you will find it refreshing in a Sunny day and everything is very clean and neat. You will be received by a service with a smile and making sure that you are satisfied, they won't take long to bring your order at all so that you can enjoy a freshly prepared meal. Now, the food was great, I ordered some poached eggs and overall the dish was well presented, hot enough for consumption, good portions, and delicious, the only reason I didn't give a perfect score in food is because I prefer my egg yolks runny. Pricewise I would consider it very affordable and even low price compared with the quality of the experience.
Funny and delicious cakes and chocolatés!!
Stumbled across this restaurant when walking around town. Delicious desert and the best coffee I had In Colombia so far.
Delicious!! You must come see this famous bakery! I would recommend
Astor is a chain repostería in Medellín, is being around for years. I love there home make chocolate bites. If you want to travel to the past and get to know the old Medellín then the Junin store is the place to go.

HOW COULD YOU NOT LOVE THIS PLACE?! The ambience is outstanding, a bit of a break from the hustle and bustle from Medellín's downtown. Full of tradition and history but still classy! Food is delicious and service is great. Definitely one of the city's jewels!
Beautiful place, extremely traditional food, very good taste!. It's iconic because between 50's to 70's was one of the only coffee and bakery store in town, and a lot of important people in this city go there to take intelectual, business, political, and art conversations and debates. Even right now in some occasions you can find very known people. In my past visit, just 5 minutes after my arrival, come one of the presidential candidates for the next year.

I’ve frequented this restaurant a few times and had mainly their soups. They were always flavourful and great. I’m looking forward to trying some of their desserts.. they all look great. Quite a few people have commented about the service. I too found it a bit below what you would expect for an establishment such as this. You DO have to track down a waitress to get a menu and to take your order. Don’t expect anyone to ask you how your meal is. Not sure if that’s just the way it is here in Colombia or this place specifically. It obviously doesn’t matter as they have a lot of clients regardless of the much noted lack of service and this seems to be going on for a long time. On one occasion, I did walk out as I waited 15 minutes and no one even acknowledged I was sitting there.
it’s one of the most iconic place in Medellin downtown, where people from all the ages and places come whether as per usual, or poo by to get to know this place. the service was great by amanda, and the food was very good, also can be improved just a bit. the atmosphere is really nice and ideal to have something to eat, or just a coffee and a sweet.
Pretty good cake, but not the best I have had. We had the Wedding Cake and the Sacher Torte. The little Besitos are well worth trying. I liked the Café con leche.

A really nice atmosphere to sit and have coffee. The place is iconic (you'll see pictures of some celebrities who've visited the place) , so it's not exactly average prices, but they've earned it. I usually get candy for my grandma here because it's simply one of a kind, you just don't get it around the corner. Recommended.

My rating is more based on something that we have heard in previous visits. In the past, we paid by the table when we requested the bill. For the last couple of years, we have been told to go to the cashier, give the table number and pay there. My question always has been, how many people leave without paying? I learned it was often. Today, my wife and I went there and learned that the server has to pay for half of the cost of the order when people leave without paying!!! Why are the servers having to pay anything for thieves who walk out without paying? That is outrageous. ASTOR should go back to the way it used to be and have the patrons pay at the table. Servers should not be penalized for others’ dishonesty.

I did not have a good meal here, despite this place being expensive for the "experience". A small egg omelet was almost 20k, which gets you a full breakfast in most places. The waitress wasn't friendly at all - a bit grumpy actually. My wife, who is Colombian had asked for a large coffee and was told it wasn't possible. And then, almost as a joke the waitress brought us a coffee mug about 1/4 full. Picture below. The omelet they brought was ok, but fried a bit too much in a funny tasting oil. My wife is Colombian and loves this place from her past, but I couldn't recommend it. I don't think I would eat here again. It's my 2nd time here, but the first time was for ice cream only - about a year ago. Around 20k for a small sundae. (It wasn't bad, but not great either.) I would much more recommend "milkshake" in Laureles, near la 70, for a good sundae.

Used to be one of our favorite places to visit, however our last experience was quite disappointing. No one greeted us or helped us get seated, the waitress made a mistake with our order and instead of apologizing or trying to make it up to us, she tried to charge us for something we didn't want. The supervisor wasn't very helpful either. Ha perdido la calidad de servicio, no es lo que era antes.

A quotation from three-years ago, Astors does not change, "For as long as I remember, the hired help hasn't changed: the same unfriendly, unhelpful waitresses. Must be a requirement to work at this place. Still though, the pastries remain as good as always. Change the waitresses attitude and I'll give the place 5 stars!" The waitresses must have performed with Houdini...getting the order wrong, delivering the wrong order, disappearing...forever. One will starve before they return to inquire, before they return to present the "bill".. On today's visit (18 August 2021) the waitress wouldn't even show her face to present the bill...sent a trainee! Terrible, terrible, terrible.... January 13, 2023... twenty minutes waiting for a server. Left!
Terrible service. I’ve been coming here since I was a kid and never felt like I had to work to be acknowledged. Now it’s so unorganized and it may take a while before you even get a menu. Also, why on earth is it a rule to keep the restroom door open at all time? This place really lost its touch.

Medellin's Chocolate Haven: A Local's Take on Café Astor
If you've been wandering the streets of Medellin and have a craving for something truly special, chances are you've heard whispers about Café Astor. It’s a venerable spot, often lauded for its confectionery, and for good reason. My friends and I often find ourselves drawn in by the display cases, where the cakes and chocolates practically call your name.Let's talk about the sweets first, because honestly, that’s where Astor truly shines. The chocolates are, without exaggeration, considered so
