Opinions de Josh's Deli Miami
This place is a gem!! Who doesn’t love a delicious corned beef and eggs and pastrami sandwich?! Coming from the Bay Area, CA we were expecting homemade corned beef at most restaurants in South Florida; well to our surprise we were told that canned corned beef is pretty common here. I spent a lot of time looking for a place that serves homemade corned beef and I am so happy I found Josh’s Deli in Surf Side! This is my go-to place now! We came in on a Sunday around lunch time and we ordered the corned beef hash and pastrami sandwich! And they were everything and more of what we were expecting! The portions are huge! So come in with an appetite. The staff were friendly and took good care of us. I must admit we did have a bit of a wait but we understood since the place is small and they receive a lot of to-go orders. The stuff offered us some complimentary french fries because we had to wait, but we were too full 😅 the gesture was what matters though! We are definitely coming back here again! FYI: the place closes on Saturdays because of Shabbat.
No-frills deli sandwiches, burgers, and other dishes. The food is high-quality & made well. The decor is ramshackle but has its charm. Seating for approximately 15 people inside (and approx 6 outside). Prices are what you’d expect. Kosher certified. Located in the heart of Surfside’s kosher scene. Parking is very hard to find here.
Josh’s Deli is fantastic! The food is amazing — full of flavor and cooked to perfection. The portions are huge, so you definitely get your money’s worth. The staff is friendly and the atmosphere is casual and welcoming. Whether you’re grabbing a quick bite or a hearty meal, Josh’s Deli always delivers. Highly recommend!
We were looking for a great breakfast place, and found it! It may not look like much from the outside, don’t judge a book by its cover. It’s “Glatt Kosher” no milk, no worries my latte with oat milk, great. What to eat, I had to do the French toast and my wife had the pancakes. Toppings, bananas or chocolate chips, can’t decide so both it is. My wife had the Strawberry pancakes. My only complaint is the chef made chocolate chip pancakes, so I had extra food to eat, my diet will start next week. The pancakes texture, incredible and I’m NOT a pancake fan. The French toast, wow, no syrup was need. Our server, the manager, was very nice. If you don’t give this place a chance, you are a fool. Enjoy, you’ll thank me
What a delicious place!! Authentic food, homemade, real tastes, wish they had some beer or cocktails, but everything was very good. The cabbage egg roll was so unique, really cool place, Def give it a try! Just wanted to add, this is not a paid review, really pathetic that someone would bash a place like this. I just went here with my husband and it's awesome, never met Josh, but his food rocks, so please don't take what one disgruntled reviewer posted, go try it urself and ull be quite impressed!!
This is hands down the best pastrami sandwich 🥪 I ever had. So soft and tasty. This is a must try. Not recommending the meat sandwich. The baguette was delicious but meat was a bit chewy. Still this is a must try small shop.
Josh’s Deli is an absolute gem! This isn’t your typical deli—it’s an eclectic, flavor-packed experience that surprises in the best way possible. The creativity on the menu is next level, but let’s talk about the pancakes… WOW. Fluffy, decadent, and downright amazing. Easily some of the best I’ve had. Whether you’re here for a classic deli fix or something totally unexpected, Josh’s delivers every time. A must-visit!
I read an online article listing the best Rueben sandwiches in America, and Josh's was the only deli in Florida to make the list. I love Ruebens and had to check them out. They definitely lived up to the hype. The amount and quality of the corn beef were perfect. Also, the blend of sauerkraut, 1,000 island dressing, and pressed rye bread was great. They had many other sandwiches, too. We got there later than planned; ten minutes before they closed. Everyone was still incredibly polite and served us with fresh, hot food. It was a great experience.
Amazing sandwich. When I saw the sandwich, I actually didn’t think anything of it. Then I took the first bite and I said ok nothing special. The next bite, I started to taste all the amazing flavors this sandwich had to offer, and I realized that I almost misjudged this incredible sandwich. Wow so so yummy and unique. I cannot wait to come back here and try everything on the menu. Best part is it’s kosher - which means the meat quality is better.
My favorite sandwich is the Rueban, so when I read the reviews, I had to try it. Intimate cafe, quiet and good vibes. Great food, and creative takes on classics. Friendly but not overbearing service. Iced coffee is excellent as well. See you again!
This place will now become an absolute staple for me. With South Florida being as cultural and diverse as it is, it's a huge miss when it comes to jewish restaurants, deli shops and italian food. That being said, we found this amazing little whole in the wall spot via IG. Being extremely particular in knowing what is real food and what is just hype, Josh's Deli uncomparable to any other delis I've experienced here. The place I would go for my pastrami/Corn beef on rye is now mediocre, and the "Pero, Like" knocks all others out of the water. Fresh, perfectly sliced and it was FAT! I also had (and loved) the Salmon Omlette, mimosa, espresso (wasn't burnt, smooth), and a very well balanced tiramisu! They also gave us a housemade compote on the side that was deliciousss. But it's not just the food, Josh and his team were so lovely; engaging in great conversations. And so polite and respectful. Loved them all. Its like you already know them without knowing them. Great customer service skills. Outside is nice, places like this I suggest to always choose to eat at the bar. Let the cooks works, and sit back and watch.
Phenomenal turkey sandwich on a challah! Had a side of fries which was delicious as well! My wife and I needed something to take to the airport on our way back to NJ and this totally hit the spot! Will definitely be a go to when we’re back!!!
Food is beyond delicious and genuine. Great service too. Sat at the bar, spoke to chef Josh himself; he’s back there masterfully cooking up all the meals and nice to chat with. Kudos! You really taste the love in the food. I had the classic Corned beef Reuben and everything else in the kitchen looked amazing. Staff was really nice and quick. Didn’t have to wait at all. I’ll be back to try more.
I loved the pastrami sandwich!!! Might be the best that I have had in the Miami area. The meat was perfect and the bread was perfect. The restaurant has a cool vibe inside and isn’t your typical deli. It’s cozy and welcoming. Definitely plan to return soon.
Everything is home made. From the pancakes very large and tasty; topped with blueberries or strawberries and chocolate chips! The sandwiches are also very good home made. Come and see for yourself. Joshs kisher Deli is worth a trip from anywhere!!
Food was delicious! I ordered the salmon and tomato omelet, and my husband got the corned beef hash. We both loved our dishes! The staff was super friendly, checking in to make sure we were doing okay and enjoying our food and also gave us recommendations on things to do with our time on a chilly day. Definitely the best breakfast we had for our time in Miami!
Incredible kosher food. Fast and friendly service. Warm vibes. Miami’s Hidden Gem.
I’m so sad that I didn’t know about this place when I lived here. The food here was incredible, it was just so good. I’ve never had anything like their seared tuna latkes, and they were amazing. The pastrami was also out of control, I’ve had good pastrami before but this was some of the best I’ve had in a long time. I’m absolutely coming back here next time I’m in town.
Had a chulent plate called the SUVITZERS CHULENT, Was absolutely delicious!! Highly recommended!!
The Rachel was super good, but for the most part all the sandwiches were phenomenal. I'd say skip the kreplach and know that the breaded chicken is more like a tempura than a schnitzel - it was good just not as expected to our picky eaters. Hands down one of the best kosher delis still in existence.
large sandwiches enough for 2 people, fries are unique and large also...definitely repeat
Comforable relaxing atmosphere. Waitress and Josh were very friendly. Food arrived promptly. Reuben was outstanding. Bread was so fresh and delicious. You can tell everything was prepared with great care. Highly recommend. Definitely worth the drive.
Laz was amazing, great service and knowledgable on all the great dishes. Food was beyond delicious. Amazing fries and deli. Great Cobb salad. Our first time but definitely won’t be our last!
AWESOME! Pastrami on Rye is a solid 10. It is equally as delicious as the best in NYC. I grew up on Katz’s pastrami and the 2nd Ave.Deli. Josh has equaled or surpassed the “great ones”, depending on your taste. This is by far the best pastrami in South Florida and one of the best of the United States, no joke, I take my pastrami seriously.
Josh is a Master Chef and everything made here is exquisite. The corned beef, the pastrami, the salmon, all made in-house is the best in Florida. The Bloody Mary is solid. Occasionally he's been known to make smoked duck breast and beef tongue, let's bring those back! ( For short, sweet, and fun travel and cooking videos, please visit CuisineQuest on You Tube)
The food and service are the best I've experienced in quite some time. My husband ordered the Jewban and I had the Mexican Dragon. To say my sandwich was great would be an understatement. It was a thing of beauty!! We sat at the bar and could see the food being prepared. Someone ordered applejuice and REAL apples were juiced. You order avocado and fresh avocados are peeled and pitted right there. Their breads are also made in-house. Oh! And pancakes are the size of your head. We will definitely return!
The pastrami sandwich was amazing! Tender, juicy & flavorful. Potato latkes were done to perfection.
Made the trip over to Surfside from Miami Lakes. I needed a pastrami fix & being a recent retiree in Miami I heard that Josh does a great pastrami sandwich! Small cute spot, very short menu, open kitchen, very good service! So I ordered the spicy tuna laktas. Very interesting & tasty! A unique dish! I prefer pastrami cut thick , fatty & juicy so I had to settle for thin sliced pastrami on a Reubenized sandwich! Being from Philly, NY & DC I've eaten my share of classic pastrami sandwichs! Josh's was a decent version but not my favorite! For the masses it's a winner! Overall Josh's deli is a good stop in the midst of overpriced, mediocre food restaurants on Harding Ave in Surfside!
I need a couple more stars to review this place. The food and service were excellent. We came home talking about family members who we have to take. I mean how can food be soooo delicious? After the appetizer we forgot about our phones and dug right in to our meal, hence the lack of pictures.
Every time We come to Florida We have to stop here and have the corn beef hash.. cook to perfection!! Didn’t get to meet Josh but I could see him working. Very nice place to enjoy great food. People where coming in to order the chicken salad a lot. I might have to give it a try next time.
Easily the best tuna latkes I’ve ever had. Pounded down the “Mexican Dragon” which is an amazing sandwich with a nice cut of seared tuna, and had to finish it off with another round of latkes. All the food (inducing bread) is made/prepared fresh in the deli. Josh was working the grill and man can he work it. Definitely coming back on my next visit. I wish I could give this place 6 stars!
Came to this place with my husband for breakfast. Breakfast was amazing! The owner was amazing. Highly recommended the seared Tuna Latkes!!!!!They were so flavorful , and the pickled onions gave that little kick that makes your mouth water. I Could easily have eaten 2 orders by myself.FYI, Their bread is homemade and fresh. Can't wait to be back.
Josh and co serve up creative interpretations of Jewish-American deli classics in a welcoming and casual setting. Everything is made in house from scratch and you can taste the difference in each delicious bite. Our first visit was for a late brunch. To start, the crunchy ahi tuna latkes were outstanding and unlike anything else I've had. The sriracha cream cheese unexpectedly tied the two main ingredients together into a terrific dish. Their matzo ball soup was the epitome of comfort food with the quality of the matzo standing out. For a main, went with the corned beef hash. Probably the best corned beef I've ever had. It was perfectly seasoned, juicy, and tender. The eggs were perfectly poached. An excellent dish. I also tried one of their rum and ginger beer cocktails, which was tasty. Service was very friendly and attentive. Prices are a bit on the upper end for a casual brunch but very reasonable considering the exceptional quality and large portions. I would definitely recommend Josh's Deli and look forward to my next visit.
Dined here for a quick lunch before my flight back home and the food + staff were a dream. Special shoutout to the tuna latkes — out of this world delicious. Another favorite was the French toast with the most impeccable crunch. If I’m ever back in Miami I’m telling everyone I know to eat here.
HIDDEN GEM FOUND! We stumbled upon Josh’s Deli today after living here for 4 years. And I’m so glad we did! Everyone is friendly and truly dedicated to what they do. We ordered the Chicken Soup and a Sandwhich. We asked the chef to surprise us. And MY GOD! The sandwich is literally phenomenal! It’s the boom! Because of this sandwich- I’m writing this review. Woah! The chicken soup was amazing too! They serve you a BIG bowl of deliciousness. Definitely need to try this incredible place!
The food is delicious! A cute little spot by the beach in surfside, very cozy and intimate inside. I got the chicken and Matzo ball soup and the Upper Eastside Omelette. Amazing. The flavors of the omelette were unique and out of this world. Great service and decor as well 5/5 stars Great Job Josh
Truly a culinary surprise! Wanted to grab a nice salad and soup after shopping in Bal Harbor. I asked a nice young, hip looking couple where they would recommend. They suggested Josh’s Deli. The chicken soup with kreplach was the best soup I have ever tasted! My husband had a gorgeous fresh salad. After watching the sandwiches march by, we added a lovely turkey sandwich, challah was homemade and the turkey was off the frame. I can not say enough good things about this restaurant. I look forward to dining here again in the future. Bz”H
Josh cooked us our meal and it was amazing. The blueberry, crumbled cookies, Brie cheese French toast is to die for. The hamachi bagel was amazing. Perfect hints of spice and bitters. As you can see by our pictures the presentation is perfect and the taste is amazing. When in Surfside stop by. Came by again over the last weekend and enjoyed another great breakfast.
I likes sandwiches a lot at Josh's. Its worth to come and have one. But in my opitions its not as good as Katz (may be nothing is) and its a bit pricier than other similar paces in the area (and also Katz). Solid 4, but gets 5 due to limited competition
I saw this place while driving by and decided to stop for a brunch bite and I am glad I did, the Donna chang sandwich is thinly sliced meat and the sauce is Asian inspired amazing flavor with cabbage slaw and caramilized onions. AMAZING a Chicken sandwhich was also HUGE AND DELICIOUS! (get it with an egg)
Excellent food ! Great service ! That being said, giving it 4 stars because even when considering food quality and it being kosher, we found it far too expensive. We got charged $10 for a 6oz americano. I mean really?
We were so happy to find this place. We ordered delicious breakfast sandwiches. Coffee was really good. Service was fast. I would definitely come back for lunch everyone's food looked so good. I had to edit and remove 1 star because of the cleanliness of the place. There were little mites in the table and when I stood up mites running around in the seat. There were also little bugs in the curtains. The place really needs to get a deep clean. sucks because it really has good food.
Lox and Bagel was really good. Love the everything bagel. The picked onion shavings were a nice touch. The smoked salmon was fresh and tasty. The fish sandwich was not my favorite. Loved all the fixings that came with it but not so much the fish. I gave it to my bf to finish... The Bloody Mary was good as was the Mimosa.
Shared a Ruben and Rachel sandwich and both were absolutely delicious. Everything is fresh. Small and popular place so there is heavy foot traffic and it takes time to get your order. Staff is very friendly but it took 40 minutes to get the food...worth it.
Muy rica la comida todo fresco y hecho por el chef Josh. El trato muy amable. Recomendado para todo el que le gusta comer rico y saludable 😋
Despite all the recent bad reviews, we decided to try the pastrami. While the comparisons to Katz's and other famous delis are not appropriate, Josh has a good sandwich with the right amount of juiciness. The bread was toasted well. However the portion is small, the price is high ($28 as of 2026) and they put an automatic tip even with minimal service. Come if your not able to get good pastrami but not worth coming otherwise.
Paid $80 for appetizer, sandwich and two soft drinks. Had high expectations going in based on google reviews hoping to discover a local gem with great food and nice atmosphere. Turned out to be located in very high cost area with no reasonable parking around, small place with deli surrounding but high end restaurant prices. If you look at the photos of the food, the latkes are consistently burned, don’t order latkes. If you are in a different part of the city and thinking to make a drive, it’s not worth it.
This might have been the best Rachel sandwich I've ever had, however, it cost me $36.19 for the sandwich (after tax and the mandatory 18% tip). I'm sorry, but that's insane. The staff also conveniently don't tell you the tip is included, and the receipt suggests you tip even more. Think, a family of four would have spent $144.76 for a meal with four sandwiches and tap water. Again, delicious sandwich, but way too expensive.
Sandwich was nice but not special. Overpriced.
I was charged $46 for a pastrami sandwich and a lemonade. I didn’t mind $26 for the pastrami because it was tasty but $10 for a lemonade served in a 10 oz plastic cup? Then there’s an 18% service charge for them taking your order and walking 3 steps to your table to hand you the sandwich. Then they ask you if you want an to add to the tip !
Food is good. Great pancakes. The negative is it was very dirty. Thank God my husband and I wiped down the table and high chair because the wipes were black when we were done. Cleanliness needs to be taken more seriously there. Also so expensive for what you’re getting.
My wife and I went there and each had a sandwich. I had the prastami my wife had the corned beef with coleslaw. The meat flavors were mediocre at best. My comparable is Katz's Deli in New York. This was way down the scale. Disappointed! The fries on the other hand were yummy.
I had the Ruben and, it was ok but nothing special about it. I read other reviews talking about it being the best they ever had and I suspect that's a bit of self gaslighting because the prices are quite high for a sandwich and fries. Here we're at $55.88 for an average quality sandwich and fries, but that high price is more about the area than the quality. Anywhere else it would be $12-16. For all those saying they've never had anything better, literally any deli or bodega in NY sells better for cheaper.
Ordered 2 pastrami sandos with just bread and sauce because they no longer use cheese (they just became kosher). I like to make the sandwich at home so I order all the ingredients separately. Surprisingly I got home and the meat was chopped up like dog food. I also found weird bits of soggy cabbage in it as well. 🤦🏻♀️ Nothing like I’ve seen before and I’ve ordered a bunch of times in the past. Bread was sliced all different sizes. I had to drive back to replace it and ironically it was perfectly made 2nd time around I am a chef and understand staffing woes and inflation but charging 28 bucks a sando for an inconsistent product is mind boggling to me. I also had to go buy cheese separately so it probably cost me more like 30 bucks each. Probably won’t be coming back. Bummer because it used to be much better.
Josh... I loved your place in the past and it used to be so welcoming! yet now, since you've gone Kosher and closed the counter and hired a less than responsive staff, I will most likely never be back. The whole vibe is cold and less than inviting. Even the Reuben sandwich tasted different... Not award winning like it used to be. And I felt 'not cared about' and even like an outcast among the crowds. I will give it a second and final chance... Let's hope and pray it was a one off. Sorry about the review, critical critique is the only way for change. Good luck and keep on being You and not someone else. - reuban sandwich and tap water: $ 33.65 (18% service charge included... For what? There was no hospitality just my meal delivered... Just saying)
i had the Ruben sandwich for takeout and it was delicious, but i was in a hurry so I didn’t pay close attention to the price when ordering. $30 for an average sized ruben is crazy to me, but I guess they must sell or else they’d probably lower the price. More power to them.
Half the sandwich for half the price would be a good start; you have to eat the sandwich with a fork and knife because it is so big and will fall apart. Meat was way over cooked and dry. Mandatory service charge was an eye roll considering the water that was never refilled. No thanks.
Went there for the pastrami, read an article that raved about this place. Very underwhelming and overpriced. $165 for three people including the tip. The pastrami wasn’t good, the fries were undercooked, the potato knish is the only item that was good.
I'm giving 2 stars because of the corned beef or pastrami taste, but this is a really over rated and expensive place. Everything is very dirty I was there early morning for breakfast and the floor has pieces of food, the cushions are disgusting and AC fans also dirty, French toast and pancakes are plain and expensive. Sandwiches are good but this extra reduced coleslaw side is disappointing for a 20 bucks sandwich. Service is like many places, take orders and wait for the tips not cozy at all. I'll never go back there.
Super disappointed, I use to come here with my father every Friday for lunch for 6 years straight. After new management sandwiches are smaller. Less ingredients. The Reuben did not taste anything like before. One last comment; at least toast the buns y'all I promise it makes the sandwiches taste better
I was so excited to eat here. When I walked in and placed my order they explained they were out of pastrami and I said, “chefs choice, I’ll take whatever you make” - 20 minutes later I got up to check on the order, and was told it would be 5 more minutes they were finishing up. 15 minutes later I walked in to see what was going on, I was told they canceled my order, it was never made - but If I wanted to wait 15 more minutes they could bring us something. Honestly, the service was just so so disappointing.
I'm sure the good reviews here were paid. Not only did they not have matzoh balls, the food is just not good. Hands down the worst pastrami I have EVER had, the noodles in the soup were all stuck together and the soup itself tasted like it came from a box that came out of a bag. I am beyond disappointed:( Why is my pastrami brown 🤨
We ordered several things and ZERO came correct. We ordered 2 chicken Caesar wraps and added avocado ($30 each) and they sent us a plain Caesar salad- no chicken or avocado. We ordered a steak wrap and they sent it on a baguette. We substituted the protein in the salad and they didn’t comply. When we called to straighten it out, they were not only unhelpful but rude about it and took no responsibility. Unfortunately, i will not be coming back or recommending to anyone.
Restaurant loses all cred when they serve sandwiches on stale bread Pastrami as dtied out as a school lunch handout at dinner
We ordered five items for delivery, and nearly everything was wrong. One item came in a baguette instead of the requested wrap. Two others were missing the sauce. The last two were completely off. We ordered chicken Caesar wraps with avocado and instead received two boxes of lettuce and croutons, with no chicken, avocado, or wraps in sight. When I called to address the issues, the staff was dismissive. They blamed the problems on the Sauce app and told me to contact them for a refund. Neither of the two people I spoke with offered to correct the order, and both seemed offended that I even suggested it. The second person even told me I was being unreasonable for not accepting his “solution,” which was essentially to just deal with it. The food was mediocre at best, riddled with mistakes, and the customer service was nonexistent. We won’t be ordering from here ever again.
Such a cute spot. I wanted to love this place. Went with a group and ordered a few different sandwiches and none were edible by regular standards. The texture, flavor, and smell were all off. The bread was weird. Not yummy. Not going back. The staff was pretty considerate and pleasant.
This place is a rip off! I paid $40+ for a mediocre sandwich and a can of diet coke.
I was so looking forward having a kosher pastrami sandwich Reviews looked good, but what a disappointment! This was not a smoked pastrami sandwich more like a regular deli cold cuts!. Not to mention was so salty couldn't eat it.
Place is in the gutter. Was an amazing spot for many years. Not sure if it’s a coincidence but ever since they went kosher and Josh moved on to a new restaurant it’s just not the same.
Do not bother! I drove over an hour on my vaycay to get to Josh’s because I can’t get authentic deli in Arizona. I searched Google maps to find one. The reviews are wrong. What a HUGE disappointment! I spent over $100 on three sandwiches and two knishes and a small matzoh ball soup. The corned beef was so fatty it soaked the garden variety (unseeded) almost Wonder rye bread into soggy oblivion. The pastrami sandwich was not as bad, but barely better. The soup was tasteless, and so oily that trying to open it spilled yellow fat all over the napkin I had (wisely) placed under it. It needed salt. LOTS of salt. The matzoh ball was so hard that I could barely cut into it with the cheap plastic spoon provided. Thank goodness my hotel room had a salt packet somehow left by a previous guest, NOT provided by Josh’s! The pickles were the worst common jar variety from the grocery store. Not garlic kosher. Just a dill pickle from Vlasic, maybe? The potato knish was inedible. My partner spit his (first and last) bite ever of a knish into the toilet. I’ll add a photo of it in the trash because I wouldn’t waste another bite for myself. Maybe we got such horrid food because my obviously non-Jewish friend asked for cheese on his sandwich.( I explained his faux pas to him.) But there is no excuse for such hideously soggily packaged carry out! Also, I asked for horseradish, for which I was charged extra, and got Russian salad dressing instead. Ugh. Such a shonda.
DO NOT EAT HERE. All the most recent negative reviews are true! From the negative service, inedible food, to the automatic gratuity, the server quickly signing the signature portion on the transaction and the smell of dirty floor/rug/rag of old dumpster food.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience at Josh’s Deli was extremely disappointing. The food was honestly inedible. My French dip sandwich was filled with fatty, gummy pieces of meat that made it impossible to enjoy. I had to pick through it, and even then, it just wasn’t good. The pastrami Reuben had the thinnest, most skimpy layer of pastrami I’ve ever seen — especially for a deli that’s supposed to specialize in this. It felt more like bread with a hint of meat than an actual Reuben. The BLT was just as bad — the bacon was poorly cooked and the sandwich overall was bland and underwhelming. To make matters worse, our waitress spilled our $6 Coca-Cola and didn’t offer to replace it. No apology beyond a quick acknowledgment, no effort to make it right. Then we noticed an automatic 18% gratuity added to the bill without being told upfront. Between the poor food quality, lack of service recovery, and automatic tip, this was a frustrating and overpriced experience. Definitely not worth the money, and unfortunately not somewhere I’d return.
