El Bandido is praised for its vibrant atmosphere, friendly staff, and prompt service. Many reviewers highlight the fresh chips and spicy salsa, along with the complimentary cheese quesadilla. Some find the food inconsistent, with a few complaints about flavor and price.
Tip: Enjoy the complimentary chips, salsa, and cheese quesadilla. Be sure to check if the kids eat free promotion is honored on Sundays.
Hidden gem!!! I don’t have enough great things to say about this place! El Bandido has the cutest atmosphere and wonderful service. Everybody was so pleasant and our waiter checked on us multiple times to make sure all of our needs were met. The decorations at this restaurant are phenomenal and feel very welcoming. The food was delicious and authentic! So glad I found this place while in the area and would definitely come back again.
I was so THRILLED that we found El Bandido!! I had to spend a couple days in Middletown and it was very close to the hotel, so it was a very convenient location for us!! Here are the features: (1) I love Mexican food so I’m a little picky and a high-standards eater, but food here is absolutely amazing!!! (2) Parking is good too. We had plenty of spots when we went there. (3) Staff is friendly and always keep an eye on tables. You maybe wanna try a little bit of your Spanish with them?? 🙂🙂🙂 (4) It’s a thematic restaurant, totally dedicated to the root Mexican culture. Walls, furniture, lights, everything! Inside and outside! (5) Prices were fair! We went to a sushi house the night before and we spend way too much money, coming back to the hotel as full as!!! I ordered a Combination and it was good enough for 2 people! Bottom line: I’d give them 50 stars if allowed. And I’m going there again!! You do not hesitate to go too!! Won’t regret it!!! :)
I was just touring the area when the beautiful outdoor fountain located right outside of the building 😲 quickly grabbed my attention from the sound of 🌊 first, then it's captivating beauty and meaning. I also noticed a large beautiful creak flowing rapidly with water behind the building as well.... Beautiful, welcoming, peaceful, and serene atmosphere that is perfect for winding down or clearing your mind from stress. Highly recommend 👍.
We went for lunch. Did not have alcohol. They brought a bowl of yummy chips with spicy salsa on the side almost immediately after being seated. They also brought a tasty cheese quesadilla while we waited for it orders to arrive we shared a Mexican corn dish, which was delicious among three of us. We also shared one dessert, the chocolate covered churros with ice-cream as well. I would recommend. Expect to pay 25-30 per person. We had a very nice afternoon.
What an absolute gem of a restaurant!! We visited for a late lunch on the weekend and loved everything from the delicious margaritas to the fresh food. I ordered the bacon wrapped beef medallions and my husband had the shrimp entre. Everything was made perfectly seasoned and every bite was so good!! The staff was very attentive and we were even served complimentary shots of tequila at the end of our meal with a dessert!! The ambiance and decprations inside made the experience even more fun. We will be back very soon. Highly recommend.
Delicious!! I adore the wall art and atmosphere here. The employees are always on point and constantly refilling the free salsa that they give you. Meals come with a dessert that does not disappoint. My mother absolutely loves mexican food and this is her favorite spot
The Ambiance & Food are Authentic they even have an outside dining area. You must try the Sangria its awesome. Service is great & a refreshing getaway in the Hudson Valley to eat & Vibe like you where in Mexico on Vacation
We've been fans of El Bandido for years. Loved bringing the kids there on weekends when there was live music. The food and service have always been awesome, even on busy weekends. I recently visited to pick up take-out and it was a smooth experience. I saw the new outdoor seating area in action and it looked inviting. May have to come back soon.
This place is just awesome. Every time we come, it doesn't matter if it's busy, moderate, or a slow afternoon- we get treated the same, excellent! They do their absolute best to ensure your comfort, food is cooked to perfection, always fresh, drinks are superb. Make this a stop, that simple.
We have been going here for 10 years. It's my favorite Mexican food. I always get the vegetarian combo dinner. The drinks are delicious and strong too.
Love this place! This is probably the 4th time I've eaten here in the past 4-5 years (it's over an hour away so I stop when I am in the area). Food is always hot and tastes great. Service is super friendly. I had the pollo a la mexicana - plenty of onions and peppers and chicken was cooked without being overcooked. Will be back again!
It was such a beautiful little gem if you don't go there you'll definitely regret it you can taste the love in the food everybody there was so kind I have to admit that this was one of the best meals I have had eating out in years this is definitely going to be my family's little spot from now on. All of the staff make you feel like your family it's absolutely beautiful and it's just a little jem of a place!! I highly suggest going because once you go once you're going to want to go again what a beautiful day I have to thank all of the staff to all the Women & Men that work there the chef out of this world everything was delicious if I can give more than five stars I'd give a million ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Went here for thr first time on a lunch date and LOVED IT!!! The bartender was so very nice and fun to talk to and the atmosphere was very welcoming. Great spot. I plan to return as often as possible.
I've only ever ordered to-go as I am in orange county monthly on business. Based on the takeout experience alone, the place does a great job. I love the Puerco Dulce especially, almost like an Italian/Mexican hybrid dish. Big fan
For 20 years ee have been dining here. Food, drinks and services are superb. Great place to unwind and enjoy among friends. Also the best salsa and chips by far. So if you're never been there give it a try you will not be disappointed.
What a beautifully decorated place! Someone put a lot of time and love in this building. Indoor and outside dining. The service was excellent. Me and a work buddy went for dinner, and we felt pampered throughout the meal. The menu has a good variety in both selection and price points. I ordered a combination plate, a taco, burrito, rice and refried beans. It was great! I think it was $14. Definitely worth it. Looks like a great place for families and children.
Excellent food and service, large portions, reasonable prices on the pick-2 and pick-3 combos. Some other items are pricey. Free cheese quesadilla and tortilla chips with excellent salsa. Artistically decorated. Half price drinks during happy hour. Amazing fresh guacamole and $5 side is huge and highly recommended. Shredded beef and chicken are excellent.
Great food. Huge portions. I couldn't even eat my whole meal and had a bunch of leftovers. They have this green sauce which has cilantro in it but tastes great. Also the waiters we're great at livening up the atmosphere. Made a few jokes and had fun. Salsa and chips comes with the meal which really started off the meal pretty well.
Food was delicious. I got the Don Bandido, it was a nice taste of a couple different of their dishes. The staff was incredibly friendly, especially our waitress Cara. We had our daughter and nephew with us and they were awesome with being patient with the two of them. We will definitely come again.
Walking in the door I spotted a statue of something beautiful. I knew I was in good company. The food was great, beer cold, and server was friendly and happy. I like this place on a deep level.
Go early!! Got there at 5:20, and got seated immediately. Delicious food, drinks were excellent, and service was amazingly attentive. Kept us informed when our meals were a bit delayed, and regularly clearing away plates and glasses. The decor is phenomenal, and truly evocative of Mexican culture (I think, not an anthropologist!).
I've been coming here for close to 20 years and it's one place that you can always count on for a great meal. They're always incredibly consistent with the quality of their food. If you go a couple times the people who work there will remember you and ask about you on subsequent visits. The manger (and possibly owner) Tony and his sister are two incredible young people! They both have a great head on their shoulders and are so friendly and welcoming to everyone who steps in the door. If this says something about tradition, the same people have been working there as long as I've been going and I'm sure even before then. You couldn't ask for a friendlier wait staff! I rank every Mexican food establishment I go to against El Bandido. A few years ago I ended up by chance moving across the street from here and it's dangerous! Their takeout is as good as it is in the restaurant and they're super generous with a large bag of fresh chips and a Chinese soup container of salsa with takeout orders. I'd recommend this place to anyone and everyone and have gotten quite a few people hooked on it!
His place is so full of character, everything i come here I'm automatically transported to mejico, the people working here go the extra mile to make sure you are satisfied, portions are big, family friendly I have to say I'm never disappointed to come here, keep up the good work guys and fighting that good fight we need places likethis
Everything is absolutely amazing. From the decor, the the staff and the atmosphere. The food is some of the best authentic mexican food ive ever had in my life
Authentic Mexican dining experience. The service is phenomenal and the food was excellent. The drinks were strong, they certainly weren't stingy on the liquor. Our server's name was Serafin, he was knowledgeable about the menu and very sweet. Definitely going to make this restaurant a regular for me.
Excellent Food and Customer Service! Some customers might be a bit too loud but other than that the restaurant is great. It seems to get very busy also so parking may seem a bit tight but definitely worth it.
Fabulous food, amazing staff and service!! Highly recommend if you're in the area
One of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to in a long time. I live Upstate NY, and there isn’t a lot to choose from. This place is legit!! The albondigas was so good. The food is very homemade and comforting. The service was friendly and welcoming. I can’t says enough good things. Thanks El Bandido for giving us a wonderful, memorable meal!!
I been going here for years. The food is delicious. The complimentary chips and salsa are good too. Fresh warm tortilla chips and in house made salsa. The staff are very friendly and the restaurant itself is beautiful and very unique and uplifting. I would recommend it to anyone. The prices are very reasonable too.
Amazing service! The food is great and the staff is so friendly. The bar tender is awesome. Your cell phone might not work but its great because you can actually enjoy your food and drinks like the good old days and have a normal conversation with someone without electronics, as it should be.
Food, service and atmosphere was on par with incredible successful restaurants in Mexico and Texas. I highly recommend Google readers to try the tortilla soup and the margaritas. All the main entries are delicious. I have tried them all .
Delicious. I love the salsa. Most restaurants near New Windsor serve a bland salsa. This one has the proper zest. The food was good. So were the margaritas. Service is excellent if a bit slow. Possibily they are short staffed like everyone else these days.
OMG wow. The food here is so good. Probably close to the best Mexican food my wife and I have found while here at West Point. Great menu selection and the adult mommy and daddy drinks are definitely worth the money you pay for them, no watered down drinks here. Their salsa is made in house and is absolutely delicious, just the right mix of everything. The service is fantastic also, mind you we went during the last snow storm, so we were essentially the only ones there. We'll be back for sure.
I took my boss, who's from Mexico and now lives in Texas, but he was very stoic and, when dinner was done I finally asked what he thought. He told me he "was very disappointed.......because he'll never get Mexican food this good in Austin." Yeah, it's that good.
The staff here was so sweet to me! They brought me chips, salsa, and a little cheese quesadilla before I even ordered. My server helped me put together a vegetarian option and the food was amazing! I definitely at too much, but it was worth it. They made me feel special and I loved the experience. Thank you!
Had another amazing dinner at El Banditos this past Saturday! The great food and great service never fail! Was even serenaded by the cute little band at our table. This will always be our go to for date night!!
Used to come here often in high school and moved out of state. Visited yesterday and WOW. Some things get better as they age. This is one of them. The homemade salsa was so good it ended up all over my shirt. Highly recommended.
Food was delicious and the service was above and beyond. The atmosphere is great as well. The prices were decent, except the pitcher of margarita was $60! Individual drinks seemed to be a decent price, so we won’t be doing the pitcher when we go back. Overall, amazing place and we will eat here again.
This is our 3rd time there and everytime it's a great experience! They always refill your chip & salsa, kept the drinks coming and the food is excellent! And the portions are HUGE. Plus on your 1st visit, at the end of your meal they give you a free shot! I recommend EVERYONE to go & experience this for yourselves, you won't regret it! The twin waiters are very nice! They're all nice! GO!
Everything was absolutely amazing. The restaurant was gorgeous with it's murals and authentic delicious Mexican food. Loved my entire experience. I want to go back for drinks. Reason I gave 4 stars was because on their menu it clearly says kids eat free on Sunday and they did not want to honor it. They staff super friendly and attentive nonetheless and I will return.
Very friendly and attentive staff, Food was good and came out pretty Quick. It was a little noisy as there was a group of young people dinning together very near where we were seated. Not really a problem and I should not have mentioned it. I will go back again.
Good food. Would prefer if it all were served on plates, rather than in plastic baskets with paper liners. (Depends on what you order. Stuff without sauces tends to come in the baskets.) Hard to use a knife with, and if it's juicy, the paper gets icky and shreds. Good cocktails.
Very good food with a nice selection. Facility is ok. Atmosphere is what you would expect for this kind of place. Staff is always friendly and service is very good. They have a weird desert policy. Maybe four times out of 20 I've been here they decide to give all in the party free desert. No rhyme or reason why. It's very nice of them, but I'd like to know what their selection policy is. Grade B+
A little pricey compared to other local Mexican restaurants. The service is excellent. The portions are very good. The quality of the food is very good. Wide variety of bottled beer and drinks to choose from. The atmosphere is unique. They lean heavy on the Mexican bandito vibe. Really great murals on the wall. Good for family or friends. Very good overall.
We got there about 8:40 were greeted and seated all fine, they brought us cheese quesadilla and chips with salsa to munch on, friendly staff, we asked if the dishes were big enough for 2 and our waiter said yea it also depends on what you like so we had camarones Acapulco which come With shrimp wrap in bacon and rice and beans , it was enough for 2, the shrimps where big , I think they were 6 or 7 and my husband also order hrimp ceviche which was a small bowl but full to the top , we had guacamole, if baby ate its approved it also taste good and was not spicy at all my kids ate it also my kids share the chimichanga dish which had 3 options- they had chicken tostada, steaks fajita and a beef burrito (small) and came with rice and beans , the food we order was fast cause by 9:06 we got all our food. The alcohol drinks were ok I had the strawberry margarita and it came with ice but very sweet I then ask for a frozen margarita but time is of essence the bar was getting ready to close so they did made it but it was watery and still sweet so for trying they get. 4 star the service was good the staff was friendly but then again I am a friendly person and I am Mexican so I like the mural painting the music(old Mexican songs) volume was just right, the staff and the food was ok but I need to come early to test the food and see it’s authenticity.
Amazing service and atmosphere, I love the building. Tacos al pastor were quite good, as were the rice and beans. The street corn appetizer was different, it tasted like barbecue sauce? It’s alright maybe I just don’t know that variation. And the salsa a little sweet which was interesting. But overall, nice place :))
Haven't been to El Bandito in years...very expensive.$245 for 4 adults 3 children, no alcoholic drinks, just soda, and no appetizers. I remember going with my parents and siblings. 7 children. My dad singing along with the guitar players. We'd laugh and had a great meal. Very fond memories. Unfortunately that's all they are. The good was subpar. My daughter asked for her steak rare, came out hard boiled. The good lacked flavor, the refried beans was more like refried soup. Thefrued shrimp wre tough as leather.soooo disappointed.i have no problem posing money for good food. BUT 245 dollars for mediocre food?unconscionable. I usually stay away from franchises but frontera taco down the road was better, more favorable and half the price...
I had a combination with pork was definitely not what I expected. The pork was lacking in flavor. The rice was dry. However the quesadilla and refried beans are always on point the best I ever had. The salsa and chips were delicious as well. My father said the portions were larger but the taste was substantially lacking that he is used to for the past 30 years.... I did not care for them slipping an extra charge onto the bill. We did not pay with a credit card we paid cash I just assumed it would be adjusted at the end when I counted the change we were $1.29 short. She did refund my father but only after we questioned the charge.
The decor was just 👌! The salsa and chips really hot the spot. The rest of the food we had... for me it was blah but my husband enjoyed it. Service could've definetly been better since we didn't even have utensils to begin with and waitress constantly repeated that she worked at the other restaurant at another spot. What does that have to do with our service here? However, she gave extra salsa for us when we packed our food which was nice of her. The singer was super duper cute and sang for us which we loved a billion!
The service is amazing. They were always around, asking if we needed something and cleaning. 🙌Really nice people and great Hispanic music👍👏 but food was too salty. May be it was a bad day at the kitchen 'cause food was weird. We love Mexican food but this time we didn't like it. They give you chips with salsa and quesadilla (it was good) 👍👍👍and then Tequila shot at the end 👏👏👍👍
The food was good. Ceviche was very tasty. I was not impressed with the drinks at all. I ordered a mango margarita and it was way too sweet. Chili’s makes better margaritas. I then ordered a beer. The beer was not cold cold the way a beer should be.
We've been here a couple of times, and the food is just okay. We stopped on this particular night because it was near the movie theater and we were starving. One thing I really dislike is their entrance. You walk straight into the bar and it can be really crowded and chaotic. Fortunately, the staff are attentive and generally take notice of you walking in quickly. This night, it was busy. We were seated at a rally awkward table that was fitted facing a wall. It was just uncomfortable and weird. It did not make for a nice atmosphere. Dinner was okay. We finished quickly and got out of there. I won't be rushing back.
This review score is mainly for the nachos. Just sad excuse for nachos. They're the equivalent of microwave nachos but with lots more cheese. Big diappointment compared to every other Mexican restaurant I've been to. Other than that, the food was decent. There are much better restaurants out there food-wise though. I suspect people come here for the alcohol which I didn't try.
I thought the food was a bit expensive. The ambience and decor is worth a visit. One does feel as if they are in Mexico. The staff is on point, I ate at the bar and was given a free tequila shot. I ordered the Baja Beach shrimp tacos. To my surprise, the cilantro did not overpower the delicate sweet onions and shrimp. I missed out on the mayo that was suppose to be served with the street food. For dessert, I tried the Mexican fried bread. I left satisfied but felt as if some flavors were missing from my meal. I agree with others, the kitchen could do a better job
The drinks were great, but as for the food... It's not so great. I had 2 tacos...one with chicken the other birria. There is no seasoning on the meat at all... and the birria did not taste at all like it's supposed to. I would go back to sit at the bar for drinks and chips and salsa or guacamole. But I will pass on the food.
The decor is fantastic, from the brick parking lot and gardens outside to the ubiquitous murals inside. The service was top notch. But the food was mediocre at best. It was like the Chef Boy-Ar-Dee version of Mexican food. I'd go to Chipotle before eating here again.
I'm not sure where the 4 and 5 star reviews are coming from. The food was bland and tasted old. The rice was hard like bird seed, and the chicken was tasteless and dry. Even the refried beans were bland. It was like the chef that day forgot to use salt. The interior felt cramped and the mariachi band playing in the one room made it impossible to talk to people at your same table. The restaurant also felt dated and a little dirty. The one positive was the staff was friendly and attentive. But with the decor and and food being as mediocre as they were, there is no reason to go back.
An authentic Mexican restaurant with very good service. The food left me less than excited. I ordered a quesadilla, and it wasn't what I was used to. The taste was bland, and I only ate some of it. I didn't get a chance to try it again, but not sure I would. The menu definitely wasn't typical of Mexican restaurants. I will say the complimentary chips and salsa was good.
I ordered 2 hard shell chicken tacos to go and this is what I got. I was staying 3 minutes away in a hotel. Once I opened to eat, the taco was soggy as hell. Now I know I could've checked it but really though? 14 dollars for that?! Nah bruh, ya gotta be better. Pricey and not worth it. Won't be visiting again.
Very disappointed with the food at Viva Bandido. Ordered chicken quesadillas which looked like Stew chicken tacos. My daughter discovered a hair in her dish. We approached the waiter about the issue and he laughed, stating nothing was wrong with the food. Alex the manager was understanding and apologized. I paid for the items we did consume and left immediately. Not worth my time to revisit. Restaurants are expected to have certain sanitary standards.
The worst mexican food I have ever eaten. I ordered 3 flautas that costed over $18 and was not even close to filling. Very bland tasting, with half it being burnt and dry as a desert inside. The salsa Verde tasted like grass. The only request I asked the server was no beans, and when the plate came out half the plate was covered in beans that slathered one of my tacos in it. The worst part however, was the tacos al pastor my girlfriend ordered. They were covered in this disgusting sauce, that made them taste so bad that they were literally inedible. I LOVE mexican food, and mexican food is usually pretty hard to mess up. But I learned today it is possible to do so. If you want to leave this place having only eaten half a plate because the food is so gross (while also spending over $20 per person) then come here. Otherwise, run away.
Nice parking area but down hill from there. Walked in and a completely outdated establishment. Once we got the menus and saw the conditions they were made me wonder if the menus are in decrepit state one can imagine condition of the kitchen along with what they serve to their customers. To make a long story short I hit it on the head of the nail. My wife ordered something called shrimp carnival for $35 I ordered steak burrito. My wife said that her meal had no taste. My burrito cost $15 served on a plastic basket were typically bread is served in restaurants( this was very budget) . The rice and black beans looked like they were mashed together and small amount of pieces grilled beef was mixed in. No lettuce, no tomatoes, No sour cream, no cheese and of course no taste. It was disgusting. The waitress noticed my disgust she offered to bring me some chipotle mayo. I told her I did not ordered a chipotle mayo burrito. Honestly folks it was the worst of the worst I have ever had in my life. She asked if we were going to take what we didn’t eat home my reply was “I love my dog too much”. People if a restaurant can provide their customers with decent looking menu please do yourself a favor and leave.
We didn't expect this bad food and long wait time from El Bandido, Middletown NY. I went with my wife on the way back from Poconos on 9/26 Sunday around 6:00PM. Salsa they gave us was very Sour, must be from Can and not freshly made. We ordered our main course. It took more than one hour to bring them. Waitress was polite and came 2 times in between to apologize for the delays. We saw too many takeout orders going out. I guess they don't need us for dine in restaurant. My wife's plate with shrimp, sauce was very very SOUR and rice portion was like 2/3 spoons. My plate was cold and Chicken was dry and salad was very Sour. We didn't want to make big fuss about it so we ate, paid $65.00 including tips and left. We have gone to Spring Valley location several times and we never had any disappointments. $57.20 for 2 plates of lousy food, it is expensive.
Con: The plate was steaming hot. I couldn’t even touch it. Possibly microwaved. The burrito was basically a taco. It was so tiny/skinny. It was same size as flauta. Pro: The salsa and chips were very good.
Posted hours for Saturday night are until 11pm. I drove 20 minutes to get here and arrived at 10pm. The place was clearly closing down. Lights full on, chairs up on the tables, floors being mopped. What I was told in broken English was essentially that they were closed because "no people". I.e. closed due to lack of interest. Well, I certainly have no interest in giving this place another chance.
Food was bland beyond belief. Salsa was fresh and flavorful. So that sets you up to be disappointed. If I never ever tasted Mexican food ever before I would still be disappointed. And they need to update or replace their menus. Thin. Ripped papers inside what looks like human flesh folders.
If you know mexican food I'm sorry but this was sad this place was never like this went 3 times first time was great 5 years ago second time I said ok mayb cook was having a bad day no problem made the best of it the 3rd and final time was like nooooooo what happened now I cant step foot in here again. Let's begin with customer service greeting was almost happening no not really. Mention that I ordered over the phone to take out they were kind of lost took my card to pay that took 5 entire minutes processed my balance but left the card in the machine went to do who knows what mind you the place was just about empty around 1pm finally got my food got to work opened my tray and I said to my self wow for 18$ I got a slap of smeared beans a scoop of rice and two sorry excuses for tacos/flautas . Picture to prove For this el bandido you get this review I'm sorry.. But that I chose this place to eat.
This has been a go to place for special occasions or when we wanted to treat ourselves for years. From what I understand a few months back they closed abruptly and reopened seemingly rebranded. We loved the old El Bandido. This new place leaves a lot to be desired. The menu is a fraction of what it used to be. Sad to find our favorite dishes are gone from the menu. The food is not fresh like it was. My husband had a chicken dish that was so freezer burned he could barely eat it. The drinks used to be awesome but were essentially at the quality of a mass market chain restaurant. The service was so impressive but this time we found it abrupt and lacking. This place at one time used to be packed on a Saturday night, even when it was freezing out. I saw a lot of empty tables and the parking lot was sparse as well. If you're a fan like we were I would suggested trying somewhere else. Sadly we will not be returning.
Terrible service and terrible food. Everyone around us got the complimentary quesadilla except us. Food came out with no flavor. Steak was white with no seasoning, raw chopped onions (i asked for grilled onions). Birria burrito meat was tough with no flavor. Mexican corn came out seasoned with ketchup nothing else. I questioned the corn he said yes it's done right. When I asked to fix my white steak my plate came back with the fixings on the corn? Guacamole had what tasted like glass in it. When we told the server he had an attitude. And then had the nerve to ask if we wanted coffee at the end. Super disappointed. Prior experience was great. This was the last time going here.
Went out with three people. Everyone hated the food. The food was absolutely revolting. I've never had worse Mexican food. Place was a ghost town and now I can see why. I had street tacos El pastor and I couldn't even get more then three bites in without having to put it down. I'm not Mexican but this food is genuinely a disgrace to the Mexican culture. Don't come here unless you want to be monumentally disappointed.
