Looking for a more classic experience? This place is it. The staff is friendly and the place has good vibes. My absolute unexpected highlight was the buffalo shrimp. That was mind blowing. 20/10. The filet melts in your mouth. The bearnaise was a wonderful addition to the palette. 9/10 The mashed potatoes are a different level. 11/10 The long rib was perfection. 10/10 Broadway musical fan tip: you can valet park here and have your car reparked across the street from Orpheum! Overall phenomenal experience!
My wife and I came here for our anniversary and loved it. It was a Tuesday and not very busy. The service was great, very knowledgeable, and helpful. The food was incredible and I would order anything on the menu. We went with the New York strip, filet mignon, sticky ribs, potatoes, and brussel sprouts. Only issue is my wife may expect to come here every year now! Thank you.
Food was absolutely incredible. Tried multiple appetizers, sides, and meats and they all impressed me I couldn't choose a favourite! Will DEFINITELY come back. The restaurant was beautiful and clean. Our waitress and the staff that helped were so professional, friendly, and personable!
They sell a gigantic bone-in ribeye. You'll be in a meat coma for days. All their menu items are incredibly well prepared; the ambiance and presentation add to the experience. The sausage is worth the cholesterol spike and their desserts are decadent! Excellent service and good wine list.
We came here as a group. We had a private party and the food was great. They brought down the appetizers, then a salad, and finally a feast of meat for everyone to enjoy. The servers were extremely nice and very well-informed. They made our visit a fun experience.
Absolutely fabulous! Everything about this experience was done perfectly. The staff was excellent. Austyn, our waitress was the best we have ever had in our dining life. She was funny, friendly, knowledgeable, always checking in, made incredible recommendations, and was so patient and helpful with picking out our selections. She recommended the stuff Jalapeño and they were amazing. Kudos to the app. It was different and funky but oh so delicious. We then got the truffle mac and truffle fries to pair with our 14oz MN raised New York strips. We each got them medium. One had the blue cheese toppings, and the other had peppercorn. Literally, everything from this point was the best we've ever had. We learned that steaks can come from heaven. It was straight Meatcandy. It was so tender you didn't need to chew, well, just a little bit. Hands down the best steaks! The mac was incredible, super cheesey, and bold truffle flavor. Oh yeah, the cheese cake is off the charts. I give it a ten. The cheese cake comes from Princes maker, so it's got an extra mark for that. But holy cow, you have to check this place out. It will blow your idea of good food out of the water. The bar has been raised. Thanks Austyn, and the rest of the staff for an exceptional dinner experience.
This place is amazing. By far the best meal we have had in our lives
Friends. My husband and I have been looking for a quality restaurant that we could dine at and definitively say everything we ate was good for SO LONG. This was it. Get the SPANISH OCTOPUS - I had never had octopus before and this app blew us away. It had everything - salty, sweet, sour, fresh, tender. I am still thinking about it to this day. Then, we got the Beef Long Rib, smoked for 14 hours. It literally fell off the bone. Listed at MP, it was $75 for us at the time but worth it. Here's the key to eating here: everything is shareable. The long rib was enough to fill my husband and I. All the sides were shareable as well and priced appropriately. Would definitely come back again, it's won us over! UPDATE: For a very much needed night out, we decided to come back and order .... Exactly the same things. ALL SO GOOD STILL, THANK YOU!
I would give more stars if it was an option. Service: impeccable. Food: AH-MAZE-ING. Patio: lovely. This is truly the best dining experience we have ever had. Our server Jim was awesome. The timing was perfectly paced. If we're gonna drop a chunk of change on a restaurant we truly appreciate a well paced meal. Jim was friendly, professional, efficient and had great recommendations. We ordered all of the things and every single thing was beyond delicious. Truffle fries: awesome Wedge salad: great, the French dressing is fantastic Caesar salad: literally the BEST Caesar I have ever had, we can't stop talking about it Beef rib: unreal Antelope sausage: fantastic Brussels Sprouts: the best I've ever had, we came to the restaurant again specifically for the Brussels Mashed potatoes: creamy heaven Mushrooms: I don't know what exactly happened to those Mushrooms but holy Hannah they were literally the best thing I've ever eaten
Can’t say enough great things about Butcher’s Tale! We hosted a private event in the Bourbon room and it was perfect. The service was exceptional and the food was a hit! Private bar and staff made it really cool. Such a cool and special space to have an event. Highly recommend!
We had a party of 15 and to my surprise the food came out on a timely manner. I had the sampler platter and my partner had the beef long ribs, both were delicious and well cooked. There is valet parking but I had to park a block away in one of those frigid winter evenings in Minnesota. That was the only drawback. Overall, a 5 star for food and service.
Perfect venue for our wedding. We wanted something intimate for our family to enjoy our celebration. The staff was amazing and the food was fantastic. Would recommend for anyone looking for a simple and private event!
The service is/was excellent. The server kept our drinks full and checked in on us frequently. Very cheerful. But don’t matter what I say here it won’t make sense so check out the pictures and videos
The food was top-notch and well-prepared. I had the pork chop (massive); however, I didn't feel stuffed after eating it. The creamed spinach was delicious, and the flight of Bourbons was well-presented.
This is one of the best meals I’ve had in a long time. The grilled oysters were phenomenal. My husband’s street corn quickly became my street corn because I couldn’t stop eating it. The lobster roll was the best I’ve ever had and I GREW UP IN NEW ENGLAND!! The truffle Mac and Cheese was also delicious. The key lime margarita with black lava salt was fantastic. What an amazing night!!!
The service and food was very good and hearty! We tried the smoked jalapeños to start and a special of jalapeño cheddar sausage sliders. All of it was delicious with a hint of smokey goodness. I highly recommend the jalapeños! Next, we dove into a wedge salad before having the long rib with brussel sprouts. We ended our meal with the lemon blueberry bar (not pictured). It was so good and perfectly tart. Everything we had was cooked to perfection. For quality of food, service, and portions you’d be hard pressed to find a better meat centric restaurant in the area.
Amazing and creative food. The peanut butter and jalapeño with cotija cheese starter makes you think it's not gonna work but you get proven wrong. A nice classy place to bring your lady to if she's a carnivore. The joint serves up beef ribs like they're straight outta The Flintstones.
Me and my boyfriend came here for our anniversary dinner (with a reservation which we moved around quite a bit, with no issue) and the lady who showed us to our seats asked us if there was a special occasion- so we briefly told her. The service was absolutely amazing and friendly and by far the best I’ve ever experienced dare I say in my life. From the waiter to the servers to even the bussing of the dishes. Our waitress was so incredibly helpful and thoughtful! She somehow caught wind that it was our anniversary and gave us a free scoop of ice cream and congratulated us! They anticipated our every need and did it swiftly and with care. Thank you guys so much!
Great location for team dinner. The Jalapeños with peanut butter starter is quite original. A must- try. If regular menu items are delish, desserts are even better and of sharable size. You're in for a good surprise when you order the chocolate cake. Helpful and polite staff, great decor.
we sat at the bar. Charlie was friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. We got there early (5:45pm) but it filled up fast. Food was top notch. The beef long rib was a show stopper!! Drinks were very good. Definitely lately going back.
My wife and I stopped here for dinner before a show at the Orpheum and I'm super glad we did. Food was spectacular, drinks were excellent, and we enjoyed our server who was also a bartender. Highly recommend the long rib and filet mignon! The bananas foster french toast is also excellent. Portions are massive, so this will be dinner for another night as well 😉
2024 (Behind on reviews) They serve very fine steaks. The steak wedge was adequate. Love the chocolate cake. Tip - Back out the 5% surcharge BEFORE calculating the tip (part of the sub total).
Had a great evening at the Butcher's Tale. Everything was excellent, the music was a little loud for larger table conversation but still such fun
This is my first time here. I ordered the Riley prime rib steak and it was phenomenal! I ordered mine medium and it came perfect. I also added the lobster claw meat and it really complimented my meal perfectly. For appetizers, I highly recommend the smoked jalapeños. They were delicious!! I highly recommend this great spot! I will come here again. Thank you Butcher's Tale!
Our sweet couple had their pre-wedding rehearsal dinner at Butcher’s Tale, in the lower level, and it was the most gorgeous and intimate dinner!! Highly recommend for just a great dinner spot, small gathering, or intimate wedding reception! The staff and food were both just out of this world, couldn’t be happier from a vendor stand point and as patrons!
Favorite spot in Minneapolis. The 72 hour beef long rib is one of the best meals of my life. We've been here 6 or 7 times and never disappointed!
Atmosphere: This place has an exceptional atmosphere for a down town upscale restaurant. The dim lights, the lively music they play over the speakers, and the large number of guests really add to the vibe of what this place has to offer! All the staff were dressed well for their positions, even their expo (food runner) Hayden. The food: I can not begin to describe to you in a better way how delicious everything was that we ordered. Starter - Truffle Fries, Main course: 16oz MN Prime Ribeye and the 16oz Australian A5 Wagyu with mushrooms and mac n cheese for the additions I used to believe the Ribeye at The White Stag Inn was the best steak I had ever eaten, but the A5 Wagyu was to die for! Plated on a black round and cooked medium - rare, this steak literally melted in my mouth with every bite. Perfectly cooked, perfectly seasoned, please, for the price we paid, it was well worth it! Lastly, we finished out with the Key Lime Pie, which, much like the steak, was phenomenal. Very silky, with the graham cracker base crust and the perfect dollop of whip cream to top. Service: Our Bartender/Waiter Kevin was amazing. Very knowledgeable, very friendly, and as this was our anniversary dinner, he treated us to a free glass of Champagne that definitely elevated the experience for us. I am a big whiskey guy, and their selection was enormous, but all great selections to choose from. Ultimately, I went with the Pinhook Single Barrel, and it paired perfectly with my meal. The last thing I will say is that even though the items are on the higher end of the price range for an eatery, this place definitely is worth every penny we spent. Please, if you live in the area or are visiting for business, make this your next stop because you will not be disappointed!
Was so excited to see brunch offered. We had two of the Benedict dishes, and they were excellent. Love the atmosphere here. Excellent service with thoughtful staff. Thank you for not charging for soda water. The dd for brunch appreciates your choice. 💧🍋 Photos: smoked prime brisket Benedict, house salad, crab and lobster cake Benedict
We’re a local creative advertising studio in Minneapolis, and we held a private event in The Butcher’s Room. We had a wonderful experience—it fit our group of 25 very comfortably. The space was aesthetically pleasing, the staff was super attentive, and the food was absolutely delicious! Highly recommend if you’re looking to treat yourself.
Wow. Quite a fine dining carnivore's dream The Butcher's Tale is. The house made sausage was delectable. The fried green tomatoes were perfectly seasoned and acidic. For a main course, I tried the Beef Long Rib with a side of Mac n Cheese and Cornbread. The sides were amazing, but the beef rib dish was a work of art. The flavors and tender fall apart texture of slow smoked goodness...ugh. Although very pricey, this place is worth every penny. Side note: my fiance had the vegan chicken and disliked it, saying it was nothing fancy and not worth the $. But she thoroughly enjoyed everything else.
Absolutely amazing service. One of my favorite places in Minneapolis. I came here for my birthday and tried the Australian Wagyu and had Jana and Charlie bring amazing energy to us during our time.
Our consulting team loved their time at The Butcher's Tale! They ate in the Butcher Room and said the privacy was wonderful. They were able to talk and get to know their teammates on a more personal level. And the food was amazing! They ate well and left happy. :)
Highly recommend Butchers Tale! We had a 24 person birthday party in the basement event space and I can’t say enough about it. Booking process was effortless and I felt very prepared leading up to our event. Our bartender and server were so personable and professional and kept the evening moving. The food was out of this world! Our guests are still raving about it.
Staff makes the visit enjoyable. Chill place tonight. Smells like great steak tastes! This ribeye is top notch! Johnna was the waitress, she deserves a raise, for real! Kept you comfortable but didn't bother. Great dinner!
onsistently one of the best places to eat in the cities. We’ll walk in and sit at the bar for tremendous cocktails (old fashioned and midnight manhattan is a must). Go to starts with oysters. Then recommend splitting the Australian wagyu with a side of mushrooms and brussel sprouts. End the night with the banana foster French toast. Perfect meal. If you’re wanting a quick meal (going to a game, comedy, show), the beer garden is perfect for a beer, bump, and burger. Butchers Tale crew is great. Special shout out to Danny (bartender) who always makes the experience special.
We hosted a wedding rehearsal dinner at The Butcher’s Tale (September 2025) in the Garden Atrium. What a perfect spot for a private event! The food was plentiful and delicious. The wait staff/bartenders (Austyn, El, Mark, Danny) were gracious and helpful. A few of our guests had specific dietary needs and the kitchen made sure their entrees were prepared properly. Raleigh, the event manager, did a superb job in the planning phase answering emails and phone calls. I highly recommend this venue for a private event!
We rented out the private 'Bourbon Room' for our wedding dinner of 29 people and the meal was nothing short of perfect. All of our guests raved about the food, cocktails and service that was provided throughout the evening. Raleigh (event manager) was incredible in supporting the lead up to our dinner. Our initial dinner search began the week of Christmas, and while we received numerous "out of offices" from other restaurants in the city, Raleigh responded right away to our initial inquiry. Not only did she immediately respond, she was willing to take numerous phone calls throughout the holidays to ensure our dinner went off without a hitch. Raleigh's attention to detail in helping finalizing the menu, noting individual dietary restrictions of our guests, and even going the extra mile of printing guest placards for our seating arrangement made her service beyond reproach. If you're looking for professionalism in planning, an intimate atmosphere, and exceptional food, you need not look further than Butcher's Tale for your event.
My husband and I came to The Butcher's Tale on a whim before a performance at The Orpheum. It was honestly one of the best meals I've had in the Twin Cities. Our server, Johnna, was incredibly attentive and helpful. She offered suggestions that made the meal even better than we could have expected. The jalapeños with peanut butter cream cheese were amazing. The pork chop was a work of art. The entire experience was amazing. We really enjoyed, and are excited to go back to try other menu items as well!
I've never in my life had a steak as good as the one I did here, and I do fancy myself a steak connoisseur. The Japanese wagyu was exceptional. The service was phenomenal, the waitress was educational and helpful. Yum y'all was everything I needed it to be, fun but still felt quaint. We had the sprouts which I would not skip, the mashed potatoes which were the perfect compliment to the steak, the mushrooms which I severely underestimated and were amazing. The most surprising enjoyment however, was the pastrami sausage appetizer! Never in a million years did I imagine that would be as good as it was! All in all this was a fantastic experience and I can't wait to go back.
My wife and I were visiting Minneapolis for my birthday and an orchestra show, and we celebrated at The Butcher's Tale based on its sterling reviews, which are all completely warranted. We had an incredible time. The atmosphere of the restaurant is immaculate and the staff greeted us warmly as we randomly walked in through the back beer garden area (oopsie). We were seated in the lounge, which was perfect for us. Everything is comfortable and elegant as far as decor—just the right amount of dimmed lights and mystery. Our server, Matt (hopefully I'm remembering this correctly), did an outstanding job explaining all the food and beverage options, suggesting several things that we ended up ordering. We both loved our steaks and the whiskey options. The Kansas cut was quite possibly the best steak I've ever had. We also sat near several other couples enjoying a birthday celebration, which was a neat bonus. We were all made to feel special during our time at the restaurant. Can't recommend The Butcher's Tale highly enough. From two out-of-towners: thank you! We'll be back next time we're in Minneapolis.
Good food majority of our order was great. Yes, it is on a higher price point but is it worth it? Personally, majority of our food was tasty, yes it is worth it especially the steaks but excluding the oysters. 9/10 Japanese Wagyu steak 100% legit, a must try literally melts in your mouth, it has a burst of flavor 10/10 Busboys are very attentive, professional and respectful 10/10 Waitress 8/10 she was good in explaining the menu and what the restaurant has to offer, made good suggestions, point out customer’s favorites, her personal favorite and the restaurant specials/known for but after taking our orders she barely check on us. Cons: $15 Valet parking is pricey especially if you get a spot within the restaurant property and the valet attendant just need to walk like 10 steps to grab your car when you can do it yourself. 4/10 Oyster is not the best in terms of freshness, and meat size. The flavor was good but the amount of meat you can eat is barely there it is not worth it for $30 of 8 small pieces 4/10 5% surcharge excluding the tip. Just be aware of it.
The service was excellent , the server was personable, attentive, and talked up the menu. The food was good , the sausage and whitefish stood out. The scallops were solid but not wonderful. The broccoli was doused in a salty, soy sauce which we did not find appealing. Dessert, pistachio puffs, was absolutely delightful. Seating was a bit crowded with the next tables with three feet. All in all it was a solid dining experience.
Thickest pork chop cut I’ve ever had! Nearly a 20oz cut. Certainly more than enough for two people; come hungry! Nice flavors. Not a fan of the auto 5% surcharge for health and benefits.
Wonderful service! Really aesthetic, nice looking restaurant too. We sat in the main dining area facing the kitchen with the wood fired grill. Food was great too, we split the 14 ounce New York strip, sides of potatoes & Spanish carrots. In my opinion, the value just kind of missed the mark which is the reason for only four stars. The meal was expensive ($100/pp with tip, even with sharing an entree) and the cocktail sizes were too small given the price.
The interior decoration and vibe was absolutely top-notch. Overall the food was very good but I had to take away a star because it was so expensive and the quality of the food did not match the prices. Also, one minor complaint was that I kept getting hit with the putrid d aroma of brussel sprouts that everybody was ordering and that is NOT a good smell.
We enjoyed our meal and the service was wonderful! The lobster Mac and cheese and brussel sprouts were delicious. My husband like the new york steak. I didn’t like the fried jalapeños because I felt like there was too much peanut butter and they were mushy. But my husband liked them! Their decaf Americano was 10/10, and so was the key lime pie. Thank you for a fun date night 😊
Celebrated our anniversary here and we were very happy with our visit and I want to go back for drinks soon! 🤩 customer service was really great. We arrived early and they were willing to seat us. I asked one of the bartenders about their whiskey picks and he was cool about showing me the picks and how they use each one. Our server was really great as well. Overall, great service. My only recommendation is that it would have been nice for the host to recognize it was an Anniversary from the open table reservation, only because we chose to enjoy our celebration with you. 🐮 The food was delish and we didn’t even have room for dessert. We started with the Brussels sprouts as our appetizer and they were perfect for two. Our meal was the hangar steak (med well) and ribeye (med), with mashed potatoes and corn bread. Everything was phenomenal and I would order it again. The steaks were cooked as requested. 🥃 Great selection of whiskey! We started with the banana bread old fashioned. It wasn’t overly sweet or too banana forward. If we would have been able to spend more time I would have requested a whiskey flight of their picks. Overall the prices for your average pour was really good. The allocated whiskey was not priced well, and it would say while I order the R13 there really wasn’t a pour on the allocated menu worth the steep pricing. As a whiskey guy, I can appreciate a little increase in allocated pours but when the pour is almost the price of the bottle that’s a bit out of line. (This is the only reason I didn’t give 5⭐️) I will go back, because it was a great experience and I want to try more of the picks they have with a great meal. ✅ If this was helpful, don’t forget to 👍🏼 the review. Cheers 🥃🥃
Somewhere between 3 and 4 star. I picked this place for my birthday because the photo of the huge ribs totally got me, but honestly, that ended up being the reason I couldn’t give five stars. All the appetizers and side dishes were amazing. The truffle mac & cheese? Easily a 10/10. But the main dishes were just… fine. Nothing tasted bad, but also nothing I’d want to order again. The ribs looked super impressive and HUGE, but maybe that’s the problem. The outside was so dry it almost made me cough, and the inside was pretty dry too. Great sides, great appetizers, really friendly vibe ( can be loud and crowded since it's usually packed ) but the mains didn’t quite hit the mark for me. That's why I can't give it a 4 star since it's fine dining.
We ordered oysters, truffle fries, along with the 16oz center cut new York steak. Decent but you gotta like fire wood stove/grill. Our steak was a bit burnt on the edges and sides but the center was cooked to temp.
The crusted sea bass is the only good thing but it is the best. All of the other meat tastes bad and they put a squirt bottle of sugar on it over an open flame which makes it taste even worse. So don't order the beef just get the crusted sea bass and you won't regret it.
