Tops if you like nice people! Everyone, staff and patrons were terrific! Played pool, ordered at bar and had a great table for seven of us!
One of my favorite places to go to not just on the mountain but anywhere. Great food, cool atmosphere. I love their burgers, gyro and pasta dish.
Whad up fam! You cant go wrong going here , best peeps in the world along with amazing food and drinks ofc. Thanks for being so awesome and ill see yall next time! 🕺🏂 -One Love
Amy, Michael, Michelle, Ellis, Amanda, Stephen, Taylor, Danner and all the rest of the staff are the most wonderful people you’ll ever come across, it’s a privilege and a pleasure to be served so well by all of them every time we come in. If you want to have a great time in govy and make memories you will never (or maybe sometimes if you try hard enough) forget, make sure you go to Charlie’s. Charlie & Alicia are the best bar owners of all time <3
If happiness had a headquarters, it would probably rent space from Charlie’s. If my GPS had feelings, it would blush every time I asked for directions to Charlie’s. If deliciousness were illegal, Charlie’s would be serving life. If chairs could talk, the ones at Charlie’s would say, “Take a seat, legend.” If gravity stopped working, I’d still fall straight toward Charlie’s. If time travel existed, I’d use it to go back to Charlie’s 5 minutes after I left. Don’t let a single review less than 5 stars convince you otherwise, this is the greatest bar in the world! All jokes aside the staff is an absolute dream team of hard working individuals who always do whatever they can to brighten your day. P.S. I bought a pair of the headphones they sell behind the bar and they are incredible!
We had the most lovely experience at Charlie’s. Great food, wonderful service. Our bartender with the red hair was personable, and so kind. It’s our first time in, and she made us feel like we’d been regulars for years. Loved the wood stove going, friendly conversations all around, such a great stop when traveling over the mtn.
We stopped into Charlie’s for lunch on a drive to Mount Hood. There was only one guy working, but he was doing a great job serving the customers. We had a delicious salad that was very fresh. We enjoyed the ambience because it was like a ski lodge. I bet this place is hopping during ski season. Looks like a great place to bring the kids too. This is another great memory that I’ll cherish always.
The restaurant is a cozy little spot right off the road, serving fresh and tasty food. The French fries came out piping hot, which was impressive. We ordered shrimp tacos, a Caprese flatbread, and a Caesar salad—everything was delicious. I absolutely loved it, and the service was excellent.
Charlie’s Mountain View is the best place to stop for a beer and food after a day on the mountain or if you’re just passing through. Locals and out-of-town-ers alike love stopping at Charlie’s. They have a restaurant side for the folks with kids and the bar side for the “adult kids”. 🍻
My boyfriend and I come up every year for his birthday, for the past 5 years now, and we always make this a stop. We almost always get our dinners here, and it's always very good! My boyfriends is a particularly big fan of the chilli! Says its the best hes had. The bartender, which I also believe had been there a while, is amazing at her job and very friendly. I look forward to our times here every year (:
This is a great bar/restaurant in Government Camp. It's rustic, but has a good variety of menu selections. Indoor seating is bar-only, so no minors and you order food at the bar (no table service), but there is a separate "restaurant entrance" for families with outdoor seating and table service. One of the only places in town that was open for lunch on a weekday when we visited, but I would definitely recommend the place for a cold drink and a warm meal.
All thumbs-up for the food, the ambience and the staff. Loved the coziness of the place at 5he backdrop of the mountain itself. The bar's a separate place and there is an even more private dining area. Weekends here are super busy (and rightfully so). We here in a weekday and we're floored by the personal attention from the staff and the openness to accommodate our dietary requests!
This place has a saloon vibe. Great food. Variety of options: salads, bowls, burgers, appetizers, etc. Good beer. High tables and chairs. Bus your own dishes. No servers. Order and pick up at the bar. Foods are $15 to $25. Drinks class to the cost.
Conveniently located on the Government Camp strip, this place is a ski town dive bar that I really like. The prices are reasonable, the cocktails are stiff, and the waitstaff and bartenders are pretty friendly. The decor inside is rustic and authentic, and the place remains unchanged over the years and years of locals and skiers / boarders hanging out getting their buzz on. I started coming here in the 1980s when you could cook your own steaks, and I swear most of the same stuff is on the walls. Post COVID things have changed a bit and they no longer have table service in the bar. The line at the bar can be long and slow so you have to pick your spots. Like everywhere, they seem to be short-staffed, and sometimes there might even be a surly staff member, or a local might get served before youa, leaving you ignored. Yes, it happens, but it is what it is. The homemade soups are amazing. Whatever it is, just try it. So far the burgers are the best up here... Oct 2024 update - Went last night, and the staff was friendly, food was great, and this is still our most frequently visited restaurant up here.
Local spot everyone goes to and knows about. The servers are whatever but the food is good and atmosphere is cool enough. Weekends and snow season up the atmosphere to a party crowd and much busier. But thats why you go here. Just dont expect the bartenders or servers to love their job. But they do it just the same
When you go into a place you’ve never been in before, it’s natural to look for either a server, hostess, or sign directing you to wait or seat yourself. We didn’t see any of these. After a few minutes of no eye contact with the only person working behind the bar we walked on to the patio and asked the server. She was nice and let us know to seat ourselves and order at the bar. The guy behind the bar taking orders seamed dismissive, and like he didn’t want to be there. It was awkward. Also,It wasn’t very busy but it still took 40 minutes to get our order. The food was “average bar food”. We have no desire to return.
We were a party of two adults and one child. Our bill included a 20% “Large Party” auto-gratuity, which was not verbally disclosed. The payment screen then prompted for an additional tip, and we unintentionally double-tipped. Auto-gratuity for a party of three should be clearly communicated. Service was slow, likely because one server appeared to be covering the entire floor, hosting, and cashiering. She was kind, but the restaurant seemed understaffed. The space also felt a bit unkempt, which affected the overall experience.
Our waitress was excellent, and atmosphere was decent. The meatball sub and elk burger were just ok and the burger was great. The mixed drinks' flavor was super watered down (alcohol was there, but no flavor), but the skillet cookie was wonderful. I'd go back again.
We went in yesterday on our way home from a nice trip hoping to have a good time here. We ordered food and waited a while. The bartender with the red hair was having the best time with her locals at the bar. Multiple people who ordered after us got their food so my partner went to nicely check in and the lady was super rude to him. Then she brought us our food that was clearly just sitting in the back getting cold and told us that there was a restaraunt next door insinuating for us to not eat there and go next door. It was completely rude and uncalled for. After reading other reviews, this lady is clearly an issue and shouldn’t be in the service industry with that kind of attitude. I highly regret tipping 20% to order at the bar myself, get my own water, and then get disrespected by that rude old lady. This bar gives “I’m only nice to regulars” vibe and it’s really off putting. People coming into town to go to the mountain are the ones supporting your business and should be treated with kindness. ITS REALLY LAME THAT YOU GUYS CLEARLY HAD FOUR PEOPLE YOU KNOW IMMEDIATELY WRITE “good” REVIEWS AFTER I SHARED MY UNPLEASANT EXPERIENCE. YOU COULD JUST APOLOGIZE INSTEAD OF HAVING YOUR FRIENDS WRITE REVIEWS THAT CONTRADICT THE EXPERIENCE I HAD HERE.
I have been coming here for nearly 40 years, and have never been treated so badly by an establishment in my life ever. The bartender with bright red dyed hair took our groups order of a full meal each, and a drink for each of us. At the very end, one person in our group went next door to grab an ice cream cone. We did not even realize we had done anything wrong when the bartender wearing red with red dyed hair suddenly started screaming for us all to get out immediately. We right away got up and said sorry we didn’t know, and she continued yelling at us continuously as we exited. The whole bar stared. Another employee who was near the entrance door also joined in. The bartender screamed that it was “beyond ilegal” to bring in outside food. (It is actually not illegal according to Oregon law and OLCC rules) One of our group went back in after to apologize and smooth things over, as they live about 2 miles away, and none of us meant to cause a problem. The bartender then screamed at her about how “all of us were rude”… we were not rude in the slightest, we have all worked in the service industry, tipped over 30%, and try and always be respectful. After roughly 3 minutes, the red haired bartender and the other employee actually followed us outside! At that point my husband said she was acting out of control and totally over the top and rude.. she responded by giving us two middle fingers up and yelling the F word over and over in front of 2 incoming groups of people walking up including children. I have been a huge fan of Charlie’s for so long, have about 10 sweatshirts and so many great memories. But this incredibly bizarre and hostile bartenders behavior has made myself and our group of friends, all local, ensure we will never return. I would actually like for the owner to reach out to me about this. To treat customers like this is insane.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Came in on a Monday night after tubing just to grab a drink and some food. This is not our first time here we usually get solid service from the male staff, which is why this experience stood out so badly. The female servers tonight were a completely different story. One server, Amanda B., had an attitude with everyone she interacted with, not just us. From the moment we asked for drinks and food, she was rude and dismissive. When we asked for the check, she literally threw it down in front of me. I’ve never experienced service like that. To make it worse, she went and talked badly about us to another coworker right in front of us, loud enough for us to hear. That’s beyond unprofessional. Being tired is one thing…taking it out on customers is another. If you work in a service job and rely on tips, customer service should be the priority. I normally tip very well, but behavior like this is unacceptable. I’ll definitely be warning others visiting Government Camp during snowboarding season to skip this place. Easily the worst service I’ve had here.
My boyfriend and I stopped here on our way home from camping today. The place had good reviews and we were wanting some good breakfast, so we were super excited to support local and stop somewhere right in Mt Hood. We sat down and checked out the breakfast menu on my phone, didn’t get any service. I’m a bartender, and so I thought i’d go order up front to save the bartender from having to come to us if she was too busy (there were maybe 6-8 other people there). We ordered two plates of food, a mimosa, and a coke. We got our own water at a self serve station and a buzzer to come up to the bar to get our food when it was ready. All very much self serve style. Upon signing my check and tipping $6 on a $44 tab, the bartender turns to me and says “that’s not even enough to cover the kitchen”. I was shocked because commenting on someone’s tip is a) extremely unprofessional and b) it’s all self serve!!! I had to order up front, carry my own drinks back, pick up my own food when the pager buzzed, and she had even mentioned there was free refills on sodas but that I would have to bring the glass back up to get it filled. In no way was she actually providing service to us besides taking our order! I always tip 20% for service but if there’s no service being provided directly at table, there is no rhyme or reason for tipping that much. I felt what I tipped was fair and the bartender made us feel so uncomfortable. We ended up leaving without our food, and I told her she could keep the money so that she could pay her cooks “the appropriate amount”. All of the others in the bar were clearly regulars, and she treated them so kind, brought their food to their tables, asked for refills about drinks. Needless to say, we will never be returning thanks to this horrible bartender (older white lady, long ponytail).
