Opinions de Chez Jacob New York
Incredible spot that I am So happy that I stumbled across today. I had the Thu Djeun which is the fish in a slightly spicy tradition tomato sauce served with a generous white rice portion. 5/5 would go back again for this $13 lunch special
Been a loyal and dedicated customer to this business for nearly a decade now, and the meals a d service has forever been consistent and delicious. Never leaving here! ❤️
The overall experience here keeps me coming back. Nice food, attentive people. The employees make dining pleasant. The taste experience needs no explanation. This place shows mastery in every area.
This place delivers quality worth returning for regularly. The employees know their business while showing personal care. They use special components to create excellent meals. I was astonished by the quality. Chez Jacob exceeds the rating scale.
Chez Jacob creates meals that satisfy both hunger and curiosity. Friendly, accommodating, hospitable, competent. No-fuss dining here. Their dishes aligned with my taste. The complete experience here was perfect.
Chez Jacob — Harlem’s Senegalese Gem Chez Jacob is without question the best Senegalese spot in Harlem. I order there every single week, and it never disappoints. They have all the real dishes you’d want if you know Senegalese food — mafe, thiebu jen, thiebu yapp, domoda, borakhe, thiebu kethiakh, thiou, dakhin, mbaxalu saalum… the list goes on. And if you’re into grilled meats, the dibi and michoui are on point — perfectly seasoned, juicy, and straight up delicious. What I love most is the authenticity. The food tastes just like home — rich, flavorful, generous portions, and cooked with care. Whether you want fish, lamb, chicken, or something saucy with rice, you’ll find it here. This isn’t a place for “fusion” or watered-down flavors — it’s the real deal. If you want to experience true Senegalese cuisine in New York, Chez Jacob is the spot.
I discovered new levels of food satisfaction during this meal. The menu features fresh ingredients in many flavorful dishes. The food here has character. Kind workers, good dishes, and lively vicinity! I'm grateful this restaurant is in my area.
Each element of this place contributes to a perfect whole. The menu deserves top evaluation. Every worker at this restaurant is pleasant. This spot keeps drawing me back. This restaurant is worth checking out.
Amazing seasoning that brings dishes to perfect harmony. The restaurant gives off calm energy. The guest care here exceeded all expectations. Delicious meals served by friendly staff in a pleasant space. This spot never fails me and won't fail you.
What? Talk about friendly. From the others in there to the waitress, everyone was just like making you feel welcomed. The portions are big. I had the red snapper and it was so good. The hot sauce is really hot, not that fake hot. The waitress was so nice. I would come back in a heartbeat.
I love this restaurant for traditional Senegalese takeout. (I would dine in when pandemic is over). They even have attaya, Senegalese tea, while you wait for your order! Everything we ordered is delicious and since I don’t live nearby I always order extra so I have leftovers. Staff have all been friendly.
Harlem has some of the best African restaurants and Chez Jacob is one of them. They offer Senegalese food. I went there for a dinner on a cold winter night. Just be mind ful the portion size is huge compared to New York standards. The food is tasty if you like exploring different cuisines and cultures. The waitress was very kind and helpful. Over all a great experience.
Delicious! Is the best way I can describe my meal so good I ordered another one to go for my father. I am very glad they are reasonably priced as other places near by are inflated. I ordered jellof rice w lamb and it was full of flavor. This is hands down my second favorite African restaurant in Harlem. I did not give them a 5 star because I couldn’t get past the poor service from the cashier/waitress. She took ages to come and place order and has a serious case of RBF. She was on her phone and then having a 20 minute conversation with a friend who came inside. She totally ignored us until I began speaking pigeon English. Aside from that this is a cozy spot in Harlem where you can come and enjoy authentic dining. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone looking for good food.
I bought thiebou jénn it was very delicious however the soupou kanjan was the worst soupou kanjan in my life. Please stay away from that dish that's my recommendation.
The food was very VERY bad. My mother and I came to try this place, and they didn’t have the snapper upon request so we settled for the chicken. The chicken was SO dry! It was nearly impossible to even chew. I also ordered a side of rice and vegetables. The vegetables were not fresh and they were the kind you get from the frozen section. You could clearly tell the food had been sitting around for days and it was not fresh at all. Definitely won’t be returning.
It’s not my first bad experience here, but it’s definitely my last. The food was cold, the attiéké had no oil or seasoning, and the dibi and plantains were burnt. I even asked for sauces, but they were missing again. I love Senegalese food, but this place was really disappointing.
Food was ok not really the best and service was super slow. Don’t be in a rush going there because they love to take their time and don’t care if you’re in a rush. Waited over a hour for something small. Go to Africa Kine it’s cheaper and better.
The food is amazing but the customer service is ridiculous horrible. Especially the light skin lady with the glasses she’s supper rude and it’s sad.
I had high hopes for Chef Jacob African Restaurant, but unfortunately, it was a huge letdown. First off, the food was way too salty—every dish we ordered had an overwhelming amount of salt that made it inedible. I tried to speak to the server about it, but she just brushed it off. Horrible customer service! Cashier is so rude to customers! The worst part, though, was when I saw a rat scurrying around the dining area! This was incredibly off-putting and completely ruined any chance of me ever returning. Cleanliness and food quality should be a priority, and I really hope the management addresses these serious issues. Definitely not coming back.
Arrived for lunch - were given a menu, but when we ordered we were given only 1 option. At the same time we saw that other patrons could order different food. Fish smelled bad and could of been rotten before cooking, so didn't touch it. Chicken was ok, but have no idea what dish on the menu it was. In the end we had to pay 43$ for two meals, but there was nothing on the menu that was that expensive. So unless you're familiar with or know the owners, don't go.
"C'est Bon" is the name of this dish, how ironic! "C'est pas bon" would be more appropriate. The French translation is "it's good " the latter is the contrary! I have tried to be patient with this restaurant and ordered many times from them, you just never get what you pay for. They are a Russian roulette of a restaurant. NEVER AGAIN will I order from them. I have just ordered and paid for two "c bon" at $44, two orders in one place, what I received is a joke: 1 medium sized plate of white rice, two medium fried fishes, and tiny containers of mixed onion marinade along with sauces. This not only is highway robbery of the highest kind, but it is also Haram. When I called to complain, the guy who pick up simply responded that; I was not the only one who unhappy about this. The ONE STAR I gave them is quite generous to say the very least. This is not the first time this has happened. I rather take my money elsewhere.
