Opinions de Jones Wood Foundry New York
Came in on Saturday night with a couple friends and had an amazing time. Our waitress was Zoe and she was fantastic and gave us great recommendations and got us to get a beef Wellington and it did not disappoint. The dinning room was very nice and the decor was very fitting for the British theme. If you’re looking for a place on upper east side that has good beer and food and amazing service Jones Wood is the answer. Definitely coming back soon
Came for Sunday roast and had a great meal. Beef wellington was good, and the roast beef was well cooked. Definitely has the English pub vibe down.
Anyone who can make Kale taste delicious is a magician and a fabulous Chef. This dish accompanied by Salmon cooked to perfection was artfully presented on a plate fit for Royalty. This is the perfect place to relax with friends. No need to travel to the UK, just visit Jones Wood and you will feel at home in this quaint British Pub even if you weren't born in the UK.
As a Brit living in NYC, it is always fun to find a place serving the food I miss most. Jones Wood Foundry is definitely joining my list of acceptable solutions to that hankering. With a true pub feel in its design, you already feel like you are 'back home'. The menu has many expected items like fish and chips, beans on toast, a roast on a Sunday, but there are less famous items but still beloved like Scotch Eggs and a traditional pie of the day, with a suet crust. The chicken and leek pie was outstanding. The crust had all the crunch, density and velvet you'd expect, and the filling was packed with big pieces of chicken, with the leeks all bound together in a rich white wine bechamel. The beans in toast were good too, with poached eggs on top perhaps more of a transatlantic touch than truly British. Definitely coming back!
Jones Wood Foundry really brings everything to the table. A welcoming and friendly environment, a unique concept, fantastic service, and most importantly, exceptional food! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu, but the scotch egg and banoffee pie are must-haves. I’m not usually a beer kind of guy, but they convinced me and I’m so glad they did. I absolutely will be coming back!
This cozy British pub serves up some amazing fare. Brunches are very busy so make a reservation well in advance. The place looks like a tiny bar when you walk in but keep heading towards the back and you’ll encounter a pleasant hostess just past the bar. I really should have taken more photos of the decor- the atmosphere is very English rustic with clear & stained glass skylights giving the dining room a very warm feeling. The service was wonderful. The food was one of the best values in NYC. The burger was YUGE and the triple fries were perfection. Definitely try the Yorkshire pudding and French onion soup as well. 6/5 ⭐️ this place is a trek from my apartment in Fidi but it was well worth it and we’ll be back.
I’ve lived in this neighborhood for nearly 12 years and I’ve been coming to JWF for all of that time. It has only gotten better and better over the years. The food is so quintessentially British, it reminds me of the pub food in London and Windsor I would have with my dad when he worked there (but dare I say.. better). Everything is deliciously crafted with the best ingredients. Whether it’s meat pies, beef Wellington, fish and chips, mushy peas and even Vindaloos or curries, you will not be disappointed. The triple cooked chips are the absolute peak of fries. My most favorite aspect is the rotating line up of cask ales. Great temperature and amount of fizz, and always delicious. I can’t recommend this place enough, it’s basically become my living room. Run, don’t walk, to eat, drink and make merry in the best pub NYC has to offer.
The French onion soup was extraordinary—rich, flavorful, and perfectly balanced. It’s clear a lot of care went into crafting it, making it easily one of the best I’ve had. The shepherd’s pie was equally fantastic, with a hearty filling and a beautifully golden crust that made every bite satisfying. The wine selection didn’t quite live up to the high standards set by the food, but this is a more drink a beer place. The back room is beautifully designed, with a cozy and comfortable vibe that makes you want to stay and enjoy the evening. I look forward to visiting again.
food is pretty authentic. Very rustic English pub vibe. Family friendly with a big back room. Beer and wine only but have several beers on tab. Sunday roast is nice but relatively fatty. Good portion of veggies. The price is def New York mid-tier considering its rustic and local pub vibe. Most main course are around ~$30 including fish and chips. So if you grabbed a beer or get an appetizer to share. Expecting to be over $50 per person.
Casual British Breakfast Before the Met Visit We were looking for a British breakfast spot for our early Saturday morning before heading to the Met Museum, and John’s Wood was definitely on our radar. We had done our homework beforehand, so we ordered right away. First up was the Scotch Egg which was egg wrapped in sausage. It was a bit different from what I had in mind, especially the portion size. Overall, it was just okay. We also tried the Fish Burger and Shepherd’s Pie. The Shepherd’s Pie was simple, authentic, and really enjoyable. The Fish Burger, however, was a bit bland for my taste. Overall, it was a decent spot. I’d consider coming back to try their Fish & Chips, maybe next time!
This spot has a great atmosphere. I came specifically to try the JWF Salmon Burger, and it was good and well-cooked, the chips were delicious too. Also started with a Caesar salad with anchovy, which was fresh and had a nice balance of dressing. For dessert, I tried the sticky toffee pudding—it was decent, though the rum sauce was a bit too bitter for my liking. They have a solid beer selection, and the one I chose was cold, crisp, and paired perfectly with the meal. Service was attentive and well-paced, no complaints. Overall, the food was solid—not mind-blowing, but I’ve never been disappointed. Still a great gastropub, and I don’t know many places that have a salmon burger! Definitely worth checking out!
Had the chicken and mushroom pie, was not very good. Crust was good, the filling was not good at all. Flavourless, dry and head no mushrooms. Service, drinks and atmosphere were great. Partner head a burger, that was good.
I like the location. I have been here twice even though I don't live close by and that says something. The atmosphere is nice, the restaurant area which is behind the bar definitely has a charm to it with both decoration and the open space area. The food is ok. I wouldn't write back home about it but also not complain. It's a somewhat limited menu so check it out before going. The service is a little iffy. In my last visit, we had 2 waiters check on us. One was very nice and attentive, the other sounded like he really didn't want to be there. All in all, I'll be back again if I find myself in the neighborhood but I won't come to the area just for it.
Had been eyeing this place for years and was finally able to check it out. The atmosphere is cute, the patio cozy, but oh my, the service is AWFUL. Our server seemed absolutely miserable, cut us off when trying to order, and was completely inattentive. Ignored our trying to order two additional drinks and never brought the check when asked. We ended up moving to the bar so we could actually get service. We waited so long for our bill after being ignored by numerous staff, I almost walked out bc literally no one was listening to me and I had somewhere to be. Never again.
Ever sit down to eat and have everything be wrong? The full english breakfast was so disappointing. One tiny piece of blood sausage, a little cup of bean soup, a banger that was mush in the middle, and rock hard toast that even the over easy eggs couldn’t soften. The coffee was weak, when it showed up. Staff was not well trained, the hostess didn’t check on people, just seated tables and thanked people for coming.
Great service and servers, very disappointing food. Came here with a British friend, and we got the Yorkshire pudding, full English breakfast, grilled cheese, and the sticky toffee pudding. The full English was probably the most disappointing. Two sad pieces of bacon/ham, not even seared. A tiny sausage, and a single piece of blood pudding. The beans were in a little container on the side, and was more sauce than beans. (You can see in the pic I took) The sticky toffee pudding was also particularly sad. The rum sauce was way too strong and bitter. The Trader Joe’s toffee pudding is a lot better. Maybe the beer is good, or some other stuff on the menu, but I don’t think I’ll be back to try.
I went to Jones Wood Foundry to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and unfortunately it was a big mistake. The Yorkshire pudding was extremely dry, almost burned. The roasted potatoes tasted off, and the entire meal arrived cold — including the extra gravy I ordered and was charged for, which was also cold. The vegetables (carrots, parsnips, and cabbage) were fine, but nothing special. The meat was okay flavor-wise, but again, cold. The dining room itself was freezing. I noticed the guests at the table next to us were also clearly uncomfortable. When we mentioned it to the hostess, she was quite unfriendly and simply said they were “trying their best” and that cold air came in from the front door and there was nothing she could do. No apology, no attempt to help. On a positive note, our waitress was lovely and did her best. Overall, not the experience you want when celebrating a special occasion. We won’t be returning.
We had a very disappointing Christmas experience for a few reasons - 1) They ran out of the Turkey! There is no excuse for this or they should have at least called to let us know, especially given that we had pre-paid a significant amount. 2) Very poor value for money. The quality of the food was poor overall & the drinks weren't great either (eg - lukewarm mulled wine). This felt like a $50 pub lunch at the best, not a $150 fancy meal (compared to a high-quality place like Tavern on the Green @ $135). 3) Lack of compensation/discount for mistakes - Ithink the staff tried their best (free drinks) & we really appreciate service folks who worked on Christmas day. However, given the main event miss (the turkey) we would have expected more on this front. An unfortunate let down for our family, who were looking forward to a great NYC Christmas. JWF seem to have bitten off more than they could chew & I hope they do better next year.
British born and bred, now living in Florida, I was excited to find a British gastropub while visiting New York for Christmas. I was really hoping for a comforting taste of home, especially a proper Christmas roast. Unfortunately, the experience was deeply underwhelming. I found a hair in my minced pie—while mistakes happen, it set the tone. The broccoli/parsnip soup or whatever it was was genuinely unpleasant, the gravy looked thin and lifeless. Honestly anemic, the roast potatoes were rock solid. Some of the turkey was acceptable, but much of it was fatty and stringy. Overall, nothing tasted fresh. Sticky Toffee pudding was okay. Only redeeming factor was the icecream which was delicous. At $150 per person/head. I truly expected better. The only bright spot was the Christmas crackers. Respectfully as I hate to put a bad review as love to try and support small independent businesses but it was a disappointing way to end what should have been a special day. It may have been a one-off, but it felt more like a British tourist trap than an authentic experience.
This was one of the places that I was super excited to try in the neighborhood for a very long time and when I did tonight, I was very disappointed. I have never written a Google review in my life. We started with the Yorkshire pudding and we sent it back immediately because it came burnt and felt like a hazard to eat and looks like they used it as an ashtray. Then we ordered 3 burgers and a fish and chip. Our waiter did not ask for a cheese preference or if we wanted salad or fries, just took the burger order. We then waited over a 1.5 hours for our food to actually arrive. When it arrived, one of the burgers had cheese (and the one we didn’t want), and the other two had no cheese. All came with fries. We ordered all burgers medium rare and they came extremely well. When the bill came, there was a charge for $30 extra and we had no idea what that was for. When we asked, the waiter said it was for fries that cost extra but we did not order fries with our burger nor did she ask if we wanted fries. Overall not a pleasant experience… ambiance was okay but the food took way too long to arrive, burgers were overcooked, didn’t have cheese and the one that did have cheese was not the one we had wanted, and got charged for fries we never ordered and they refused to take it off the bill. I was so excited to try this place and have it be a neighborhood staple for me but wouldn’t come again. Such a disappointment. Attached is a photo of a burger we asked for medium rare and the Yorkshire pudding.
As a British person craving a proper taste of home in the U.S., Jones Wood Foundry was a major let-down. The cosy, pubby atmosphere set the right expectations, but everything else—service and food—fell short. Service was practically nonexistent. We had to flag someone down just to order drinks. Our Scotch egg arrived frozen in the middle; when I took it to the server, she responded with an exasperated “oh my god” and no apology. It came back about three minutes later, no longer frozen, but still cold. The Yorkshire pudding was undercooked, doughy to the touch, and we also had items that never arrived—we had to ask for them to be removed from the bill. Over the entire meal, our server only appeared to drop plates and then bring the check. On the plus side, the ambience was lovely. But the food and service were among the worst I’ve experienced on either side of the Atlantic. If you’re hoping for food that resembles the UK, I wouldn’t recommend eating here. Given the generally positive online reputation, I was shocked after the meal we had, which was not like British food back home, and certainly not worth the disappointment.
