Opinions de Le Pain Quotidien New York
It is definitely a hip and overpriced place, but nevertheless they serve really good chocolate mousse, and absolutely great lemonade - neither is too sweet, which is very unusual for the US, as most Americans routinely oversweeten everything.
If you need breakfast or brunch at anytime near Bryant Park, this is the place to be. We tried two other restaurants at 11am today for non-bakery breakfast but no luck. Then we found this one nearby. We got coffees, avocado toast with organic egg, scrambled egg & Gruyère croissant sandwich with bacon. Tasted fresh and good (and lots of avocado!) The place is big and has lots of food options, with genuine service. We will come back.
Had a lovely Saturday breakfast here with friends. It's pretty inside! Lots of breads and baked goods - unfortunately very limited for gluten free. (Bakery cafes should offer gf bread or source gf pastries; have some pity for those of us who get sick from gluten! There is a macaroon on offer which I ordered and enjoyed.) Latte was delicious and our server was friendly. : )
Le Pain Quotidien has always been my little love in New York — the kind of place you return to again and again, no matter how many years go by. Maybe it’s nostalgia, maybe it’s the French charm, but every time I walk in, I instantly feel at ease. It’s not trying to be overly fancy — and that’s exactly why it’s perfect. Rustic wooden tables, the scent of fresh bread, sunlight spilling in through the windows… everything feels warm and inviting, like a café tucked away on a quiet Paris street. The food is simple but beautifully done, with that effortless elegance the French do so well. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back: cozy atmosphere, delicious food, and that intangible feeling that you’ve stepped out of New York and into a slower, gentler world. If they all started speaking French here, I might never leave. And even the fact that the cashier lady could barely speak English and completely mixed up my salad order didn’t — and will never — spoil my feelings about this place. That’s how much I love it❤️
We went here for lunch on a day trip to NY. Our server Jeff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions for food and helped us plan our trip by telling us what bus to catch. The customer service was what really made our visit perfect. The food was delicious and very fresh. The salad had their homemade dressing. It was one of the best salads we had. The sandwich we had was sharable and the cheese was so good on it. We had coffee which also was delicious and strong. The desserts were cute and very flavourful. Everything was priced well and the restaurant had a comfy vibe to it. Loved the wood and tea light aesthetic. They made you feel welcome. Well definitely be back when we're in the area.
This decoration and lighting are what I like. The location is very good and the transportation is very convenient. The brownie cake is well made, crispy on the outside and soft on the inside, very authentic. The large latte is great, a large cup is like a small bowl. Will continue to patronize next time!
Went there on a weekday early morning. Great rustic European atmosphere, beautiful indoors, good food, prompt service and convenient location (to mid town and Times Square) near Bryant park. Prices are reasonable for NYC and I thoroughly enjoyed this breakfast. Enjoyed a nice extra hot latte (arrived as ordered) and the sunny side breakfast bowl with veggies. Keep it up!
i really enjoyed this pistachio latte. it was very pretty and had such a creamy flavor, with a wonderful, authentic sweetness from the pistachio syrup that wasn't overwhelming but also not too subtle…

the decaf macchiato that I ordered (twice) was perhaps the best coffee I have ever drunk. I was shocked at how good it was. Even in the silly mini-bol - it was truly fabulous.

One of the best breakfasts in NYC. The ingredientes are awesome. Very good coffee, the atmosphere, everything was special.
This was a great spot for breakfast, great food options and very tasty. The staff is really nice! We were a table of 8 (4 adults + 4 kids) so our order came in different intervals, however the food was nice. The tea is not that great (it comes in a big 500ml paper cup) however the Danish pastries are lovely and the egg choices are great). A little pricey but then again it's in the heart of New York... Nice experience overall.
We went here while visiting the winter village at Bryant Park. The service was decent, very cut to the chase but not rushed or rude. I ordered the pumpkin spice iced coffee since they make the pumpkin spice syrup there. It was okay, kinda small and a bit sweet. For Brunch we ordered the egg and cheese on brioche and the salmon on an everything croissant. Loved the salmon sandwich, the egg and cheese was basic in its taste and delivery. Many other items I saw arriving at tables looked nicely put together, just not sure on their taste since this was our first time. The prices were not terrible given you’re in mid town Manhattan so that was a plus. Everything considered, we’d only go back to try some pastries if we go back to Bryant Park..but not much is TRULY calling us back.
Across from Bryant Park, Le Pain served a smooth Iced Vanilla Latte! I had a DELICIOUS Banana chip & Chocolate croissant like creation.. YUMMY!! Also the Cheese Danish was a sweet pastry made from a rich, flaky, buttery dough layered with a sweet, tangy, and creamy cream cheese filling. 🥰😋 Would like to try breakfast next time!
The pastries are all freshly backed and delicious. Also tried breakfast croissant with smoked salmon, very good! The interior is a bit outdated, but it is right in front of Bryant Park, you can get a take out and enjoy it outside. They also offer table service inside and high top tables for self-service inside and a few seats outside.
Tried my first ever crookie (croissant with cookie) there! It was super delicious. My brother had a sandwich that was also very nice and the tea was ok. I think it's nice for a snack or a coffee with a pastry while you read or something, because the place is not super comfortable for conversation with a friend. Service was alright. Bathroom was clean.
They have delicious pastries, Their chia muffin is maybe healthy and whether or not is one of the best muffins there is. It is not too sweet and is soooo good. Also the butter they serve is very good…

This location is right next to Bryant Park. The bakery part is not too bad. Good pastries and bread. Would definitely visit again.

Have had to send back twice -- once a chai drink which was watery, next a sandwich with hardly anything on it. Food portions are skimpy and overpriced. Desserts are good.

What can we say. Not going to spend $50-$75 on breakfast with the worst service ever. Got up and walked out. Thank god Ole & Steen next door understands consumers.

The staff there was incredibly rude. It was a rainy , and there was no host present when I arrived. The staff took my order at the counter and then disappeared. There was plenty of seating in the cafe area, so I took a seat towards the back. I was then asked to move closer to the front and was told I was not allowed to sit there. I moved, and once I received my order walked back to my seat. I was then told by another staff member that I could not sit in that area, and had to sit at a table by the window. There were no seats by the window, so I was forced to eat my food on a bench nearby. Horrible service and the food was no good. I hope no one has the displeasure of visiting Le Pain. It’s a pain.
Small portions, expensive prices, food is mid. The bread was stale as if it was made 2 days ago. There was only ONE server for the whole restaurant and it was PACKED!!! So the service was terribly slow. The coffee is also bad, we ordered a latte and a regular black coffee. There was no toilet paper in the bathroom either. Not recommended at all!! The aesthetic and the price do not match the energy.
The worst flatbread I’ve ever seen, I told the hostess after a long wait: finally you are giving us a table, she said : it’s not finally ! She was very rude. I remember le pain quotidien was one of the best places in New York, unfortunately it’s not anymore , this will be my last time here !
