This spot is actually FIRE. Probably my second time here with family when I’m in town. Their Peking style pork chops is all I wanted and is reallyyyy good and their steamed chicken has been the best I’ve had. The veg, lobster noodles of course also very good. My fam got this short rib on the bone in black bean sauce was awesome.
This place is 100% if not more better than wah fung, as great as wah fung is this place has seating but also more options and the bbq tastes better in my opinion too!! Highly recommend coming here!! Try to crispy pork over rice, it’s one of the best for sure and the congee and other dishes are also all really savory and worth a try if you’ve got more people! Also, for the price it is super filling…6.50 for a meat over rice and it fills me up for two meals!! Editing to make it recent STILL THE BEST THREE YEARS LATER friendliest wait staff especially if you go more than twice or three times but the food is so worth it too. Guarantee you it’s better than all spots around it!!! A little pricier now but still only 8 dollars for crispy pork! 整个纽约最好的粤菜馆!脆皮火肉是纽约最好吃的!!
Great price. Love the 3 meats on rice (roast duck, chasu pork, crispy pork belly). Beef ho fun was pretty decent but not outstanding.
I’ve been coming here for a very long time now when I was a kid. I mainly come for dinner, where they serve foods family style just how I like it. All the usual family style dishes ordered at a table is just amazing. The food is just immaculate. The dessert they give you and fruit at the end just makes it perfect to end the night. Hope this place stays here forever
I have attempted to come here a few times this year but, was always a little too late on my arrival. By around 1 pm the place is a mad house for lunch. Usually filled with older patrons, taking part in their ridiculously well priced and delicious lunch special. For 9 dollars, you can order a whole host of items that normally appear to be more than twice the cost. I arrived around 11:15 and was one of the first to arrive for lunch. i was seated at a large circular table and given a pot of tea. I ordered two items off the lunch special. the first being braised tofu and fish, the second being pork belly with long hot peppers. They both arrived steaming hot. My first impression had me shocked. Not only was this a huge portion of fish and tofu but it was perfectly cooked. you could tell the fish was made to order. the fish had a nice crispy exterior and had soaked in some of the delicious brown braising sauce. the tofu, the same. The pork belly with hot peppers while not as bountiful, or complicated a dish was excerpt what i ordered. i assumed at first it was going to be a twice cooked pork, it was a pretty straight forward stir fry with sweet onions and peppers. Quality of everything was really nice. Free bowl of rice and a free pot of tea, what a deal. Friendly staff, great experience, i will be back after watching several other dishes come out of the kitchen. i would definitely get the braised tofu again and either try their bbq items, or this garlic chicken i saw come out, or their steamed whole dish for 12 bucks, or like 30 other menu items. This place needs my further attention!
As a local raised in this neighborhood, New Hong Wong is one of the last remaining authentic Cantonese restaurants in Chinatown. The prices are relatively less expensive and the dine in portions are HUGE! This combination of low prices and very satisfying portions is an extremely rare find in Chinatown. I've been eating at this restaurant for over twenty years, and despite some name changes during that time, the food quality remains the same. During lunch dine in tends to get very busy, so get there early to avoid the crowds. This is a great place for dinner and the service during dinner is more attentive than during lunch. All the dishes are cooked in traditional Cantonese style. Nothing fancy but very satisfying. Their BBQ meats are good and worth trying as well. I loved the fried salt pepper pork chops twenty years ago and I love them even more today! They are so tender and flavorful and definitely a must order. Enjoy!
Best family style restaurant! Bring 3-4 people or more so that you can try different dishes. My fav is the salt and pepper pork, it’s melting soft inside and crispy outside. I didn’t like the plate of char siu and fried pork belly as much because it was a little cold and dry and too lean for me. But other than that, everything else is great, they also give you a small free bowl of house soup.
I always come here when we are in need of large groups for my family (obviously call ahead of time to make reservations if you can). They were accommodating every time. Decent Cantonese style restaurant. Cleanliness can be improved here and there but we haven't had any problems here regarding food & service.
Looking for the best bang for your buck? This place is the perfect Asian restaurant. Good portion, service wasn’t bad (surprisingly) and we didn’t wait long for our food. They have a lunch special which consisted of noodles (horfun, lo mein) and rice for under $10 and tea was included. There’s no expectation on tipping - of course we tipped anyway and they totally deserved it. There’s one thing I think they could improve on is the horfun - some parts of the noodles were cold otherwise it was cooked well.
it’s refreshing that there are still restaurants not powered by food delivery apps. Sun Hong Wong is one of those places. an old school-ish Chinatown eatery that closes around 9 and serves a familiar simple menu of dishes. happened upon this restaurant after a long day of walking around Manhattan. gave up on the notion of cooking, wanted to grab some takeout to go…and discovered Sun Hong Wong’s lunch / dinner special menu ftw. end up ordering eggplant and veggies in garlic sauce over rice. took about 10-15 minutes, my food was ready and packaged neatly to go. the eggplant and veggies were sauced delicately and the rice was fluffy and didn’t taste dry or old. appreciated how flavorful and fresh my food was. glad i stopped here and picked up dinner as opposed to infinitely scrolling through an app for sustenance and being paralyzed by choice. this is a medium-sized sit-down restaurant with table service but they do a lot of takeout. the city is going to be a much emptier place without these old-school restaurants.
The food was good but the staff was very rude. Our table was extremely wobbly but the waitress couldn’t care less about it. She was much nicer to the regular guests, and made us feel very unwelcome. She was then shocked that we had left a smaller tip than usual (and tbh we shouldn’t have left any tip after that service).
A dinner was arranged here by friends—this was my first time visiting. Unfortunately, the experience was underwhelming. The food was average at best, nothing memorable. What stood out more was the lack of cleanliness. The floor was noticeably sticky, and I later noticed they have a B rating from the health department, which didn’t inspire much confidence. The most off-putting moment was finding a strand of hair on my piece of fish. That really sealed the deal for me. The beef I had was also very tough and chewy... Not a place I’d return to, and I wouldn’t recommend it.
I am 50/50 about this place. I use to get lunch from here when I work bbn across the street and it didn't leave a good feeling with me. I just recently had a change of of heart when I was invited here for a celebration and was impressed by it. I made plan to have another dinner here with a smaller group and this time I was not impressed again. My meal today I can't complain but still dead even. I have been back since and to reiterate when I used to get lunch here years ago I was not satisfy with them. I been here now having dinner and have to admit that the dishes are very tasteful.
They overcharge a few dollars for the food when you don’t notice, and when you point it out, they will correct the price as if they were being careless to get the price wrong in the first place.
May first glance, the lack of cleanliness of the place stood out, followed by service that was friendly at first. After the food was served- which was cold, overpriced, and lackluster in flavors and appeal- the service staff disregarded out. I will not be coming back or ever recommending this location, Chinatown is deeply rich in history and culture and this was NOT a reflection of that.
