Opinions de Please Don't Tell New York
My first speakeasy experience. It lived up to the expectations. The queue was long, even on a weekday eve, and they gave table only for 45 mins, to accommodate the next group. Good experience overall.
PDT is hands down an amazing experience. Yes it’s a bit small but I wouldn’t say it’s tiny. The atmosphere and attitude were perfect and we had seats right at the bar to watch the action. Our bartender, AK, was friendly and was happy to share lore about various ingredients and components. My friend asked her to make any drink that came to mind for her as it was the last of our trip and with one basic question, she produced the best cocktail he’d ever had. I can’t recommend this place highly enough. Word of warning though: you might wait for a couple hours while others wait 10 minutes. They have a method so just go with it. Staff is great, drinks are phenomenal and the experience was worth the wait. Drinks we had, which were all amazing are pictured. The Cloister, The Katz Meow and the Subrosa.
Fantastic experience, Chloie (sp?)was amazing, so was the fellow who helped us before who's name i neglected to get. Didn't try all of the drinks but every one we did was stellar, atmosphere is great. My favorite part is the list of recommended restaurants and bars in their menu, way to pay it forward guys!
I always love visiting this place and love the way you enter. Be sure to make a reservation before visiting!! This place will most likely never have walk-in availability. Drinks are expertly crafted and the service is great. I've been here a handful of times and it's always consistent.
Epic Speakeasy. Please Don't Tell is one of the worlds best cocktail bars. Sure the entrance is killer but what makes the joint are the drinks made by top notch mixologists. It only seats about 40 people. They start taking reservations at 3pm. It's a bit like trying to call a radio station to win something. You need to be on your A game to get in. This place is worth it, though.
Well, it is tough to score this place anything other than a 5, even though its hype and the expectations one should have about it if you are into mixology and adore Meehan’s book like we do, PDT is a Mecca to pray toward for its model of all things sacred to spirits - true spirituality. Service was great, drinks were delicious and well prepared - although a little slower than you would think they should be, but quality does take longer. Probably don’t need to go back, once was enough, but it was definitely worthwhile going once and being able to enjoy the holy grounds.
Loved this speakeasy bar, one of the best ones I've ever been to! Entering through a hotdog joint, you Dial 1 on the telephone booth and the booth opens into a beautiful hidden bar. Once in, we enjoyed some delicious cocktails on a corner couch. I enjoyed my Black Diamond whiskey cocktail One thing to keep in mind is that for a decent time, you MUST book at least 4-5 days in advance
PDT is what you would call an institution. The very essence of a speakeasy down to its very core The experience is second-to-none. With a warm wecome from the host to being seated with a friendly demeanorn to the bartender's warm greeting as well. Drinks are made to perfection, as always, and the food is always prompt and arrives hot and ready to eat! Reservations are strongly reccomendedn unless you do not mind waiting at Criff Dog's (which is not a bad thing!). If you think making a reservation is tricky now, you clearly missed the glorious phone call days and should be thankful.
This is an awesome place. Love the space and entrance, service was so attentive and friendly, and the drinks were amazing. A bonus is you can munch on some tots while drinking your cocktail and then grab a hot dog before you leave from Crif Dogs. Absolutely a perfect setup, highly recommend.
An NYC speakeasy staple that I've been meaning to go to for a long time. I found myself in the area with a friend and we went to put our names on a whim. Even without a reservation, we were able to get seated within 45 mins (although our bartender told us the wait can sometimes span multiple hours). I was really impressed with the place. Great ambiance and even better drinks (though be warned that you will be paying ~$20 per drink and ~$40 for their specialty cocktails with high-end liquor). Their lassi drink managed to get the taste of both a delicious curry and an excellent lassi. They also had a blood orange/chocolate/lavender drink that hit some very nice floral/citrusy notes which I enjoyed. It took a little while to get our drinks but you could see that it was because the bartender was carefully crafting them. The host and server were both extremely nice and knowledgeable about the cocktails and mixology (thanks Sadie and Cooper!). I definitely intend to return to try out the rest of their drinks.
Great experience, well worth a visit, we were lucky to get a table, thanks to hostess, would recommend booking a table in advance, hospitality amazing, drinks amazing!!
What else can one say that hasn't been said already? If you're in NY, you MUST check them out. Unique and original cocktails in a very cozy, moody atmosphere. Keep in mind that reservations are for the day of only. Phone line opens at 3pm on a daily basis. Expect a busy line when calling, but you must keep trying until you get thru!
Fun speakeasy experience that's been on my list to try forever and it certainly didn't disappoint! You enter through Crip Dogs, a hot dog shop, where you squeeze into a phone booth, dial the number listed, where you get let into the bar. Drinks were about $18 each for normal cocktails but very unique, creative and delicious. Watching the bartenders, it looks more like chemistry than drink making. The vibe of the place is quite interesting with eclectic artwork and taxidermied animals. My favorite piece was a taxidermied bear with a cap on its head. Came for the experience, stayed for the drinks. Would highly recommend!
This experience is truly like not other!! it's a bit small but the food and drinks way makes up for it. The bartenders are all super friendly and creative. You have to try it!!!!
Awesome little speak easy with great vibes! Had a bit of trouble finding the entrance when we arrived and realized you had to enter via Crif Dogs and then go dial the phone booth inside. Very cool experience though! A true nyc speakeasy experience. Ordered the blue drink (forgot the name) but realized it wasn’t for me and the server kindly replaced my drink with an alternative at no charge. It’s very tough to get reservations for this place so make sure you book weeks in advance!!
First off, incredible service. Mauricio was our bartender, he had no idea it was my birthday until the very end but up until the point he was great. We came in after wandering around east village and stumbled in, no wait, we walked right in to a semi busy bar. But not too loud. You can still hear each other without having to raise your voice. Mauricio and I had a moment to talk in Spanish and he recommended me some drinks that were lovely, but truly was made this experience so worth it and a reason I would come back is because he and the other bar members gave me a card and a small custom drink on the house as a birthday gift. In New York, that feels really uncommon so shoutout to this place. Couldn’t recommend it enough . Mauricio is a gem.
Fantastic experience visiting here. From the funky entrance ritual to the quirky decor, this place is quite unique. The hotdogs from Crif's are incredible, so don't skip those. Service at "please don't tell" was top notch. The drinks are masterfully crafted and on point with the flavors. Place gets very crowded quickly, reservations are highly recommended. Overall a fun experience.
I had booked a table for two as a surprise for my husband. He loved it, he had no clue what he was doing when I told him to use the phonebooth - it was brilliant. We were originally given a small table in a corner by the bar, which got very cramped when people got seated right behind us at the bar. Thankfully the server noted this and moved us to a booth. The mocktails were great and the food was an added bonus. Definitely a great experience for a first visit to a speakeasy!
This was my first speakeasy with a hidden entrance, and it was super cool! Once through the Crif Hot Dogs phone booth, you’re in a very cozy cocktail lounge with a great drink selection. The Paddington and the Molevardier were both very solid drinks. The fries from next door were a nice compliment. The staff was very friendly as well. Definitely a cool place to visit!
Worth the wait! The drinks were amazing and the tater tots we ordered were so tasty. I’d definitely recommend getting here early because the wait was super long when we came on a Friday night. It ended up taking about 2 hours from when we put our name in until we seated, but definitely glad we ended up coming.
Pleas Don't Tell is what every other secret entrance speakeasy is trying to be. It is fantastic, and going through a fully functioning hot dog place, and then through a phone both makes for a really cool experience. At times the wait can be long, but they will take a reservation over the phone and let you know when your spot is available, which is great. Most importantly, their cocktails are AMAZING! They're really unique and delicious, and you can tell the bartenders know what they're doing. I also love the attention to detail (e.g., the ultra clear ice in different shapes and sizes, the absinthe water dropper). I even had the privelege of trying a rare Blue Gin, which was great. The decor is also perfect, and felt classy yet kitschy. If you are in NYC and looking for a really unique place to try out, or are just into cocktails, do yourself a favour and check PDT out.
Good for tourists and people who haven’t been to a speakeasy ever! City folk should get early drinks here or chill here during the week after work! Hot dogs are a great touch!
Thank goodness they take reservations now as I’ve been hearing about this place for YEARS! The magic of dialling a telephone to get into the speakeasy is hard to describe in words - you should experience it yourself! Our group really drank the menu had tried a whole selection of the drinks they had to offer. The Reserve cocktails were definitely a treat and I personally enjoyed the Lyaness. Other great ones were Paddington and the La Perla Old Fashioned. Our party enjoyed the greener cocktails like the Peasco Sour and the Valle Verde. The hot dogs are fabulous and you definitely want to get one. The Chang dog has momofuku kimchi on it with a crispy hotdog skin, which is just a luxury in itself next to some great cocktails. Service was also super friendly which made the entire night that much better. The atmosphere was also really cozy so it was just overall a great evening, with great drinks, food, and company.
What a great experience! I found this spot with a quick search of bars in the area and loved the idea of a “speakeasy” where you enter through a phone booth. The service, the food, and the drinks were all great! I really enjoyed myself and my friends had a blast. I can’t wait to go back. I highly recommend a splurge on the caviar tots. They were mouth watering!
Made a reservation for 7pm on a Thursday night. Didn’t appear to be too crowded otherwise. Atmosphere is great for this little hidden cocktail bar. Tried the Shark and Black Diamond. The Shark was good though not nearly as amazing as the Black Diamond turned out to me. The Black Diamond had amazing aromatics and a velvety foam on top. It was quite an amazing coffee based drink. Based on these two drinks I wish I had time to sample more.
You will find the entrance to Please Don't Tell (PDT) Speakeasy by entering Crif Dogs and locating a phone booth inside on the left wall. It's recommended to have a reservation as this bar is well known and popular. Simply pick up the receiver in the phone booth and dial "1". This is essentially a doorbell to let them know you're looking to come inside. The drinks are clever and well crafted. The space inside is cozy and intimate. You can order food from Crif's along the lines of custom-made dogs, tater tots, and similar fare. The attraction, however, is clearly the libations that range from classic offerings to the outrageously eccentric yet delicious 😋. For example; I ordered the Fountain Cobbler - St George Absinthe, Four Roses Bourbon, Lustau Palo Cortado Sherry, Coconut, Root Beer Cordial, Lime, Maple, and Peanut Butter! I mean, WOW! WHAT A COMBO! It's hard to describe the flavors you experience in this one-of-a-kind cocktail, but it's one you'll never forget (definitely in a good way 😉). Plan ahead, reserve a spot, and be on time! Your reservation can be forfeit outside of a 15-minute grace period for, you know, life in general. Go treat yourself. This place is definitely worth the effort.
Went for the cocktail class at 3pm and it’s about $100/person. They show you how to make 3 types of drinks and you got to take one for the road. Of course you drink each drink made which means you’ll be feeling nice nice! Super cute place and excellent service From beginning to end. They open at 5pm officially so we went back after around 7:30pm to have some more drinks and try their food. The Hanoi dog was excellent and the truffle trots EVEN BETTER! Loved the experience and neighborhood. Absolutely will recommend and cannot wait to go back
Please Don’t Tell is a cool speakeasy hidden behind a phone booth in the Crif Dogs restaurant. You need to enter and dial the phone to get a host to come out. After you enter, the place is a small cozy bar with an extensive cocktail menu and great bar food. We tried a few different cocktails and they were all equally well done with lots of interesting flavors. The food is also top notch with high quality hot dogs from guest chefs like David Chang and other tasty dishes like tater tots. Highly recommend making a reservation first as I’ve tried multiple times to come here and it can get full quickly without one.
Love this speakeasy cocktail bar! Really enjoyed the drinks and intimate atmosphere. We got a few drinks which were all perfectly balanced and so well crafted. Also tried the Chang Dog (couldn’t resist a bacon wrapped, kimchi adorned hot dog) and tater tots. All excellent. Bartender was super friendly and had a great time all around. Definitely try to make reservations beforehand.
Excellent speakeasy inside of a hotdog store. Definitely get reservations first! We enjoyed some of the best cocktails in NYC, including a couple with Japanese whiskey and a classic rum cocktail. All of them were an experience with multiple flavors, appearing and disappearing after each sip. Truly masterful mixologist work here. The vibe is business casual and the service was efficient. Great place for a date or a small group of friends.
I'm a little stingy with five star reviews, but this place is just the coolest. I am 100% a fan of secret doors, but even without the tiny telephone booth, PDT is great. Crif Dogs is awesome too, so no complaints there. The staff is super friendly and helpful (shout out to my guy from upstate), and the menu is solid. Then, when you actually get to PDT, anyone who's telling you it's all about the cocktails has their head in the sand. The hotdogs can be made bunless (some sort of lettuce wrap thing), and they're exclusive. The tots, too, are fancier than the varieties found at Crif's, and are delicious. Get the bacon tots and thank me later. The bartenders are knowledgeable, personable, and otherwise unobtrusive. I got a specialty drink and a custom crafted cocktail (a Cuban sour? Delicious? Rum and apricot and lemon and the frothiest egg white known to man?) and regret nothing. Most folks I saw were together in groups, but I went solo and sat at the bar for two hours and read a book (it went great with the drinks and the tots) and wasn't bothered in the least. Make a reservation - this place was FULL on a Monday at 5:30PM.
What a fun experience for a bar! We first started with chef’s choice (aka the cashier chose) of a hotdog that had elote on it and was one of the best things we ate while in NYC! We then tried the Slings & Arroz (Scotch, horchata, allspice dram, cinnamon, walnut, egg) which was interesting, more of a desert so we probably shouldn’t have started off that way. The second was much more my speed and we both really enjoyed the Black Diamond (Rum, crème de cacao, orange rum liquor, cold brew, alchermes, dulce de leche, macadamia), probably because the bartender suggested this one and they can do no wrong!
Please do tell! Everything about this place is superb. Drinks are created with the upmost fashion, taste and creativity in mind. Service is impeccable and the pricing is just right for a quiet little get away. Set away from the hustle and bustle of the city lights and noise and step into an oasis of clever drink making, classy themes and not to worry this wont break the bank!
Great cocktails hidden behind a secret door in Manhattan. Once we knew the location on the map, it wasn’t too hard to figure out which door in which store led to the bar. There was a short line, but it moved quickly. On our first attempt, they didn’t have space for our party of five, but they took our number and called us about 40 minutes later when a spot opened up. The bar is designed like a corridor, so it’s not very spacious, but it feels authentic and cosy. They offer a great selection of Mexican-inspired cocktails, and we were able to try several: - Aromatherapy – A fancy twist on a Negroni - Ultraviolet Fizz – Light and refreshing (My personal favourite) - Elixir Azteca – Both smoky and fresh - Moment of Clarity – A dirty martini with a sesame flavour (sesame flavour may feel too intense if you are not used to it) - Black Diamond – A sweeter, more elegant take on the espresso martini - Pablo’s Pearls – Fruity and fresh with a hint of Thai basil If you enjoy experimental cocktails and unique flavours, this place is a must-visit!
Incredible cocktails, I love the variety of novel flavors on the menu. Crif dogs has a veggie dog which I appreciate. The bartenders move like machines. Great experience, reservation recommended.
Had a great experience here. From beginning to end. The drink selection is definitely out if the ordinary. Maybe a little out there for some of us, but man they sure are creative. The whole atmosphere, and the place just vibes. Couples night out, friend's night, or even a date. This is a great place to stop by and enjoy. Just remember to say the password, or they won't let you in.
Very intimate and modest place, but well worth the visit if you can get in. We didn't have a reservation, but the hostess got us seats at the bar for an hour before the next reservation. So plan accordingly. Reservations are recommended. We only had drinks, but they were AMAZING!! Between my wife and I, we tried 4 different cocktails and all were great!! I would list the cocktails, but I honestly feel that you won't go wrong with any of the choices. Just find your flavor profile, or alcohol of choice, and go for it. They will also make off menu drinks, but we didn't do that. Would definitely return
These were some of the best, most interesting cocktails I’ve ever had. The Fountain Cobbler is fascinating and delicious. Sam was a sensational bartender, and the food, though not at all the star, was very tasty. The Nordic Root grew more delicious and complex with every sip, and by the end of the night, might have been my favorite.
A very fun and unique experience in NYC. It was somewhat difficult to find, but that is part of the experience. The entrance is fun. The whole place is very small, but that adds to the vibe. The servers and bartenders are kind, and they are happy to talk to guests about their drinks and what they enjoy. If you are willing to stray from the tourist parts of NYC and venture out, this is a must do.
Absolutely amazing bar. If you can get in, do it. Chloe was our bartender and she was amazing. Super down to earth, helpful and accommodating. Drinks wer excellent and the exclusive hot dogs were delicious (the David Chang dog is a must). I will definitely be back. Waited so many years to visit and it lived up to my expectations.
Hidden Speakeasy within Criff Dog. Enter the phone booth, dial one to gain entrance. I do suggest reservation as they tend to get very busy throughout the evening. This is one of the top speakeasy in Manhattan. All the bartenders are super knowledgeable and their cocktails are on point no matter what you order. PDT should definitely be on your list if you’re planning to be in the area.
Please Don’t Tell is truly a hidden gem in NYC. From the moment you step inside, the ambiance sets the perfect mood—intimate, stylish, and full of that speakeasy charm. The cocktails are nothing short of incredible, carefully crafted with creativity and precision. Every drink feels unique and memorable. On top of that, the service is outstanding—friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable, which makes the entire experience even better. If you’re looking for a one-of-a-kind speakeasy with impeccable drinks and atmosphere, PDT is an absolute must.
My wife and I travelled from England to visit PDT and had arranged with the team that 2 family members would surprise her for her birthday. The team accommodated this with great enthusiasm and were almost more excited to make this happen than I was! Once we had setltled, they made my wife feel special throughout the evening. Great team and great venue. Would highly recommend.
probably my fav bar i’ve been to in nyc, definitely takes the cake for coolest entrance. didn’t eat anything here but i told the bartender what sort of cocktails i like drinking & he made me something fantastically citrusy & absinthe-y! highly recommend checking this place out, the drinks & the vibes are amazing.
Had a great time at Please Don’t Tell! Definitely make a reservation if you can. It’s tough to get a seat during peak hours, especially on weekends if you’re going solo. Big thanks to Brie for finding me a spot after a bit of a wait, coming from out of town may have helped! Once seated, everything was smooth and welcoming. The vibe was spot-on: relaxed but buzzing with energy. Shout-out to Marc (the bartender, I think!) who gave me excellent drink recommendations. Every cocktail I tried was perfectly balanced and delicious. Overall, great service, fun atmosphere, and fantastic drinks. I’ll absolutely be coming back and highly recommend PDT to anyone visiting NYC.
PDT holds a special place in my heart. It was the second speakeasy style bar I ever visited (the first being Attaboy), way back in 2014. I've only been back a handful of times since then, but every time I'm able to, I'm excited. I know the food will be on point, the vibe low-light and comforting, and the cocktails made with meticulous care and precision. It's an intimate setting where you'll sit with your party and actually be able to speak with each other instead of shouting over loud music or blaring TVs. Overall, it's a really well done cocktail program, in a cool secretive setting. The staff are very friendly and knowledgable and the service is quick and efficient. Thank you!
It’s truly one of the most unique bar experiences in New York. Finding the entrance is part of the adventure, which makes the whole night feel special from the start. The hidden, speakeasy-style atmosphere creates an intimate and cozy vibe that’s perfect for a night out with friends or a date.
One of the coolest bar experiences in NYC. You enter through the hidden phone booth inside Crif Dogs, which already makes the night feel special. The space is small, cozy, and has that classic speakeasy vibe. The cocktails are creative and very well balanced, and the bartenders clearly know what they’re doing. Service was friendly and the atmosphere felt intimate without being pretentious. A fun bonus is that you can order the famous Crif Dogs hot dogs while you’re drinking — perfect late-night bar food. Definitely worth visiting at least once if you’re in New York and enjoy craft cocktails. 🍸🌭
Fun experience for a first timer. Sat at the bar and enjoyed the show. It’s a science project happening with every drink. I had 2 and enjoyed both. The second one was better as I requested the flavors I was desiring, voila here is a perfect cocktail. I enjoyed the phone and looked forward to returning. Try the citrus ginger spicy drink for a kick.
Small, cozy, and dark! We arrived at 4 with no reservations on a Sunday. We added our name to the waitlist and got a text 30 mins later. We stayed close by thankfully. We are so glad we got in because the cocktails were delicious. The menu has something for everyone and there were also some good bites. At the end of the menu there were other bar recommendations which was appreciated.
As a lover of a good speakeasy and hotdogs, there's no way that bias can't creep into this review. With that said, you need to go to Please Don't Tell. I had been trying for a couple of years to make it into PDT, but the timing just never seemed to work out. Finally, one Saturday night - four of us went into Crif Dogs, and picked up the phone to try our luck. It worked, and at about 11:30 we were brought into a very full, but not uncomfortable, Please Don't Tell. We pretty much tried every dog (and tots) on the menu, and a bunch of cocktails as well - and the experience was nothing short of fantastic. The prices are reasonable for Manhattan, the service was great, and loved everything about the cocktail menu - there was something for everyone. I know it's difficult to gauge whether or not you're going to get in - but on the bright side, if it's full, you're still at a hot dog stand and a short walk from McSorley's. In my opinion, Please Don't Tell lived up to, if not exceeded, the hype, and was a surprisingly reasonable check at the end of the night.
Love speakeasy’s? Cozy Vibes? Amazing bartenders? This is the place to be!! I had a blast of time at PDT, they serve the most creative cocktails out there, and the bartenders are super fun too. We went there to celebrate my girlfriend’s birthday - they gave us complimentary champagne and birthday cocktail for her. The best part is the entrance of this place is such a cool experience - definitely a must try if you’re in town and love cocktails.
Love the vibe, love the drinks. It's such a popular speakeasy that isn't much of a secret anymore. Your best bet as a walk-in is on weekdays, but we waited about an hour on a Saturday night. Luckily,…

Went there after hearing a lot of hype around this place. We were seated at the bar. I was hoping a little more friendliness and recommendations from the bartender but I guess he just wasn’t in the mood. I went with an old fashioned with a twist. The drink was great, although apart from the entrance it felt like a normal bar.
Turkish Delight Mocktail 3 raspberry rosewater, lime juice, honey, ginger, no cream, mostly raspberry flavor, slightly sour, ginger too strong, rooty flavor Elote Flip Cocktail 4 bourbon, sherry, mescal, sweet corn, mascarpone, vanilla, egg, salt, slightly sweet, creamy foam, can taste hard liquor Chang Dog 3 bacon-wrapped hotdog, kimchi, not juicy, not flavorful Benton’s Tots 4 melted cheese, sautéed onions, chipotle mayo, scallions, bacon, medium flavorful
Our birthday crawl led us to this speakeasy with hot dogs and cocktails. I got a good Old Fashioned. The vibes are nice.
Unfortunately the internet has ruined places like this, but it's still a fun novelty to go to a "speakeasy" through a secret entrance. The hot dogs and tater tots were good, not amazing. Drinks over priced for what you get. I ordered a bacon old fashioned which unfortunately want too my taste. My own fault for thinking bacon would make a good drink better 😂
Visited Please Don't Tell Speakeasy 🍹@pdtnyc in East Village (St Mark's) , NYC You walk through a cute hot dog shop to go through, and dial in through the telephone booth We walked in this very day as it was a weekday at 4 or 5 pm. We needed to wait around 15 mins. Inside you'll have a darker , gloomier setting with booths on the ends and a bar in the middle. The brick & wildlife filled walls gave it such a homey vibe There's upbeat music with a bar filled with alcohol. That's definitely needed since the menu has almost 200+ cocktail options! We got the 🥃 Suntory Time Machine: whiskey, sake, lemon juice, maple syrup, fig, & pecan bitters 🍹 Ultimate Fizz Bee: gin, persimmon, bianco , lemon juice, grapefruit juice, egg white & soda 🍸Matchu Pitchu: pisco, mescal, matcha tea, lemon juice, passion fruit, egg white All in all the cocktails were fantastic, especially the Matchu Pitchu. Super refreshing with a light egg white @midwestmunching
Really cool and fun spot for a cocktail. Some very complex and different cocktails you wont see everywhere. Ensure to get there when it opens or you will have to reserve a week before at 12 on the dot. I wouldn’t recommend eating here as it was only hot dogs, burgers and tater tots. Great date night spot pre dinner.. a bit small for big crowds.
A pilgrimage to one of the first speakeasy style bars in the city. It was a great bar and a well-curated experience, but did feel a little past its prime, or maybe it was just an off night. They had just started with their updated menu, and the bartender seemed a little unsure about how to describe some of the drinks on the menu and was very vague when answering questions about some of the components in the menu drinks. So we were kind of on our own to figure out the menu, but the drinks were ultimately really good. The vibe was excellent and very relaxed early on a weekday night. Still was a great experience to be at such a storied cocktail bar, and worth a visit.
Went there on a quiet weeknight so we were able to get a table with no reservation. Great drinks and decent price. Love the atmosphere. But I really could have gone without 1h30 of straight reggaeton 😵💫
Like many speakeasies in town, this one has an interesting entrance by a hot dog shop. Then there is an old phone booth where you dial (1) which is the bell for the speakeasy. Friendly staff, fast service, prices little high as expected for any speakeasy. Reservation is highly recommend, I got 1 am spot.
The speakeasy is inside of a hot dog place and there’s a telephone booth you have to enter and dial the number 1 and say this phrase. Once you do that, someone opens the door to let you in. It’s a very cool experience that I enjoyed. The place is super small and crowded but it’s all part of the experience. I highly recommend making reservations though because of how busy this place is. The drinks were made strong and had a nice floral taste - I ordered a drink that is floral. The bartender was very friendly and provided great service. I wanted to visit this place back in September 2021 but reservations were fully booked at the time so I’m glad I got reservations when I visited NYC in October 2022. I definitely try going here. It’s a very fun yet intimate experience with friends or even on a date. Overall, amazing vibes and will definitely have to come back sometime 😊
I’ve been wanting to visit this speakeasy for over 25 years, ever since I heard about its famous telephone booth entrance. The legend was that you’d step inside, make a call, and be granted access through a hidden door. In reality, the process wasn’t quite as magical as I imagined, so the anticipation I had built up over decades didn’t fully match the experience. That said, once inside, the place was fantastic. The atmosphere was intimate and stylish, with a great energy that made you want to linger. We sat at the bar, where the bartender was exceptionally kind and attentive. The drinks were masterfully prepared—balanced, flavorful, and beautifully presented. Overall, while the “secret” entrance wasn’t the mind-blowing moment I’d been dreaming of, the interior experience more than made up for it. I’d still recommend visiting, especially for the cocktails and the warm hospitality.
The phone-booth entrance leads into a dim, intimate East Village speakeasy. The drinks are the highlight—well-balanced, carefully made, and consistently impressive. Their classic cocktails are solid and straightforward, while the seasonal creations show real skill without being overcomplicated. The space is small, and once it fills up, it gets noticeably tight. Not uncomfortable, but elbow room is limited so it can feel a bit crowded when busy. Overall, PDT delivers excellent cocktails in a cozy, tucked-away setting that’s worth seeking out..
Unfortunately, the highest ranked NYC bars are often the most mediocre? Our first drink here, the Nanie Ma's Achar was not very good. However, the server then gave us another drink with a basil and tomato and it was amazing! I'd recommend this for hype and most of their staff was very welcoming but not sure a very long wait is worth committing to!
PDT (Please Don’t Tell) was a fun and memorable stop. Entering through the telephone booth added to the charm and made it feel like discovering a true hidden gem. The cozy atmosphere and expertly crafted cocktails gave it a classic New York vibe—intimate, relaxed, and effortlessly cool.
Love the entrance and ambience of this speakeasy. We didn’t make a reservation but got put on a wait list with no estimated return time. Luckily it ended up being 30 minutes when we received the text to return. When we went back I told the host that we had a reservation for ** and he felt the need to differentiate that we were on the wait list and it wasn’t a reservation. That honestly rubbed me the wrong way and felt unnecessary since they were already prepared to seat us. Other than that, the ambience was great and the bartender was nice and wonderful to watch. Drinks were great as well.
Nope. Would not come back - very pretentious staff and patrons. Took the fun out of the speakeasy experience. \nAesthetically, it is beautiful inside. Too bad.

Very cool little speakeasy place. I also like the cool entrance thru the telephone booth. The drinks were actually quite good and the dawg I ordered was pretty good.
Came here on a Tuesday evening, in the middle of the summer for some pre dinner drinks. We had a reservation and would recommend having one to make things easier and so you would not have to potent…
Not my fave speakeasy but def a cool one! Drinks are good, def make a res if you can because the wait can be long if you just show up
The entrance to PTD is very cool. My wife and I arrived for our dinner reservation and were seated at the far end of the bar (minimal room for eating dinner). For cocktails, my wife ordered a Blue …

A nice speakeasy. The entrance is cool, you go through a phone booth. However, the wait is absurd. Basically, they ensure that each patron has a seat, and the bar is small. Therefore, at any given time, there are only like 12 people in the bar. On a Monday night, we had to wait 45 minutes. Most bars were closed and/or empty at this point, but this one had a long wait. Also, since they have this seat per person policy, the bar is pretty empty and dead. Don't go here if you want to meet people. Also, they have a one-drink minimum policy, and the cheapest drink is a beer which is $8, which is very high. My friend got a chili dog and he said it was very good. The staff was nice. Overall, you should go here if you like speakeasies.
I hadn’t been here in probably 15 yrs but boy has it gone downhill since. Drinks not particularly special, hot dogs were small and cold, tater tots were undercooked. Menu needs refresh and quality control. Vibe is still good but I cannot live on vibes alone 😕
Cocktails are good, but not exceptional and rather pricey. The location atmosphere are alright. Nothing exceptional either. The only exceptional thing in this place is the entrance, though a phone booth, and the extremely long waiting time from the moment you ask for a table and the moment you get a seat. They said "Between 2 and 3 hours waiting time". It took 3 hours for us to get a table. We were only 2 people. Could have been placed in the bar, but kept us waiting instead. In my opinion, this place is overrated, and not worth the wait.
Do wait if u don’t have rsvp. Their waitlist works sucks. And there’s no RSVP button on google and no instruction. But they describe the written RSVP rule on the door. Added to the waitlist at 10pm and until the business closed there’s no msg notifying you get a table. ‘There are lots of reservation today’. Then donot offer waitlist if there’s definitely no table available. Or learn from other bars like Toki Jazz of table rotating operations.
We went to get some drinks after dinner but we didn't have reservation so we had to wait until they contact us for table which was about 30 minutes. The 4 of us got seated on the small table, half the size of some tables that 2 people being seated (table under the bear) and right next to the bathroom and you can see the bathroom through the curtain which was certainly not nice. Since it was very dark people always hit the table we were at whenever they go in and out of the bathroom 😞 And since the table was small, 4 of us were very cramp in there, not at all comfortable. We had a drink each then left.
You could do worse, you could do better. Cool entrance through the hot dog shop, but it's a tight space without much ambiance other than darkness going for it. Server was helpful, but the drinks we…
Please dont tell is a cool place with an alternative vibe – where they have created a hype around rather bland food (though the drinks are magical). Before you enter the restaurant, you pass throug…

Loved the atmosphere and the experience of getting in - going through a phone booth in a hot dog shop. Drinks were decent. I’m rating 2 stars because of the service. It took us a while to get in - not because it was full but it seemed maybe no one could hear our telephone rings (loud inside) or the hostess stepped away for some time. Immediately after we paid, I noticed the waitress began subtly rushing us out by making multiple visits to our table and taking one item at a time. One of the visits she spilt the drink on us as she was reaching for it, staining both my purse and my friend’s jacket. I later also noticed I was over charged on my card and they put in a higher tip. Added some photos below for proof. Took a look at the reviews and it turns out it’s been happening to others as well. Will not be returning.
Nestled within the confines of "Crif Dogs," Please Don't Tell, affectionately known as PDT or the "phone booth secret bar," epitomizes the quintessential New York City experience that could well have sprung from the reveries of Taylor Swift herself. This hidden gem skillfully curates the consumer journey into a speakeasy narrative that stands unrivaled. Nevertheless, it is imperative to scrutinize the finer details. The libations, though undoubtedly captivating, and the service, regrettably, do not ascend to the loftiest heights, ultimately missing the mark in crafting an indelible and truly extraordinary encounter.
Most of the drinks here are very good and unique. Unfortunately the service is much worse than it used to be. From forgotten orders to mixed up orders (gave an alcoholic instead of the NA drink requested!) it really brought down the experience and was extremely inconsistent with the price point. I really think the drink recipes themselves are very good, but the execution was sorely lacking.
first let me say that the ambiance of the bar is very cool and elegant, love the dim lighting and candles, also the speakeasy thing is fun. i arrived at the bar in a super quiet sunday night, must have been like 4/5 people tops. as soon as i sat down at the bar i greeted the bartender and let him know that i was super excited for the experience, that this was my last night in nyc and that i wanted to have a couple of drinks. i started with one that was quite good, nothing out of the ordinary but tasty nonetheless. soon after i arrived a couple that was also sitting by the bar finished their drinks and left, so i was left alone and to pass the time i made some small talk with the bartender. he would answer whatever i said but he had no intention of whatsoever of chatting with me (i think it’s part of the job of being a bartender), mind you that was my first drink of the night so i wasn’t acting like an annoying drunk or anything like that. i had a hot dog to go with the drink and when it arrived the bartender continued chatting with his co worker, to the point (and this is what broke the whole experience) he leaned against the bar and was completely giving me his back in front of me while he kept talking to the other bartender. it got so bad that i finished my drink and for at least 5-10 minutes the bartender didn’t realized, he only asked me if i was done after i asked for some cutlery to finish my food, and he never asked me how everything was. i originally wanted to stay for a couple of drinks but i got so annoyed by him giving me his back that i asked for the check (45usd for a hot dog and a drink) and left without giving any tip at all. took my business to another bar where they actually had some manners. terrible experience in what seems like a nice bar.
They did not let us in and were clearly very racist. I went there with one of my friends 3 times and they denied entry all 3 times. We waited for 3 hours once and still didn’t get entry that too on…
Regurarly reserved a table via Resy (you can reserve ONLY via Resy, no other options). Received both email and sms with confirmation. Entered the phone cabin at 9,40pm (in the reservation process …
I’ve been twice and have yet to enjoy any drink I’ve gotten there (tried 5 different cocktails). They tend to be not balanced and overly boozy. Attempting to get in is a major pain. Reservations open on the phone but you have to call 10x before you can potentially reach a person. If you try to put your name down at the bar, they will grossly underestimate the time (will say one hour when it’ll be actually three hours). Staff are not friendly. There are a lot better bars and speakeasies in the area without the price tag and the hassle.
Terrible PDT experience !— would not recommend for walk-ins🔥 We arrived at PDT around 8PM and left our phone number with the host, who told us that while they couldn’t guarantee a time, we would be notified via text or call once a table became available! We went next door to Amor y Amargo for drinks and continued waiting for a notification. By around 11PM, we checked back and were told there were still 6–7 parties ahead of us, so we waited some more time in patience! Shockingly, even by 12:30AM — nearly 4.5 hours later !— we still hadn't received any call or message.!When we returned to the bar to ask the host,we were told they had given our spot away without notifying us at all. No explanation, no apology — just an unacceptable level of disorganization and disregard for guests. Absolutely terrible hosting and service! If you don’t have a reservation in advance and are thinking of walking in or leave a phone number to wait the SMS. PDT is never your best choice!Unless you enjoy wasting your great night waiting for a call that never comes!
I was a regular costumer just last year im a bartender in San Marks and I know pretty much the people on my neighborhood. at the beginning the atmosphere and the service was incredible from the part of pdt but suddenly I walk to Crift dogs one day with my girlfriend I was not drinking we were just enjoying the hot dogs they sell there however a really rude staff member which name is Jessica threw the food to me and my girlfriend . I been Working in the industry for almost five years and it made me really upset and disappointed also angry at her we pass back to the pdt because I was your really upset Then suddenly they decided to make me 86 of the bar just because of the rude actitud from Jessica I hope the owner fire her because that’s not way to treat people overall really disappointed
Arrived at 10, they weren't able to provide an ETA but put us on a wait-list. After 2 hours, we returned and dialed the "secret" number (1), they still had no idea how long the wait would be. Ended up never receiving a text back and wasted time waiting for one. It is entirely possible to take the amount of people in line, the number of reservations made, and calculate an ETA. Hope they are able to figure out how to do this for future customers.
