What a vibe… very LES vibe compared to the West Village one… (WV is more posh (in a good way)) this one is still the same amazing food, we were there for Super Bowl Sunday and they were chatting with us, super chatty and fun… great vibe. The lucky chicken can IPA beer was super also along with all the Sake!
Souraji Omakase was such a solid spot. The food was really fresh and flavorful without feeling overly fancy. Service was friendly and attentive, and the whole place had a relaxed, good-energy vibe. Definitely a great casual omakase experience.
A small, intimate restaurant that’s definitely worth booking in advance. You can sit at the omakase counter and watch the skilled chef prepare each dish or opt for a traditional table seat. The service was both professional and relaxed, which made the experience even better. We started with a set menu featuring sushi that just kept getting better with each bite. At the end, we could order freely, with the simple rule that we finish everything. The 90-minute dining experience was well-paced, and the sake tasting was a great addition. Highly recommend for sushi lovers!
Celeste was phenomenal!, my cup was never dry! She was extremely knowledgeable and hospitable! She made the experience 100 times better!
Came here for my anniversary and did not disappoint! Had a 5:30 resy (right when they open) and they wasted no time. Every single serving was fresh and delicious. At the end, there is an “unlimited offering” but, you give your count of how much you would like and there is no adding or subtracting to the order. It’s not like a rodízio where it’s “all you can eat” but I liked that the food is not wasted. Any sushi leftover has a surcharge. Overall, great omasake experience including unlimited sake and beer. Shout out to our girl, Phoebe who made our anniversary memorable!
If you’ve been hunting for that elusive intersection where "hole-in-the-wall" charm meets "fine dining" execution, SourAji on Avenue B is currently the city's worst-kept secret. It disrupts the typical $300 NYC omakase gatekeeping by offering a purely hedonistic experience: high-grade fish, inventive fusion bites, and a value proposition that feels like a glitch in the matrix. Stepping in, you get that classic East Village energy—unassuming and intimate. It’s not trying to be a temple of silence; it’s lively, well-lit, and chic without being stiff. It feels like a place where you can actually hear your friends (and the chef) while nodding along to a curated lo-fi playlist. The Omakase Experience The core offering is the 13-course flight, and it hits the ground running. The Fish: The sourcing here is serious. The King Salmon is often a standout—buttery, rich, and likely torched just enough to release those oils (a must for anyone who appreciates a good salmon prep). Unlike purist spots, SourAji isn't afraid to play. Expect small plates that blur lines—think miso-glazed eggplant or sashimi with subtle citrus/herb marinades that nod to Peruvian tiradito styles.
All you can eat and all you can drink makes this place an easy yes. The food keeps coming, drinks never run dry, and the vibe is relaxed and fun. But honestly the highlight is the host Zaw. He’s incredibly sweet, thoughtful, and makes sure everyone is taken care of the whole time. You really can’t ask for better service.
Before this wall of text—shoutout to Greg and Eric! You guys seriously made my wife’s and my night so much fun. Hope you see this, come back again, and send your friends here too. I was definitely a little too drunk by the end of the night to grab your contact info, but wishing you an awesome Saturday date, Eric. Hope you take your gf here as well, Greg. :) Now onto what was probably one of the most fun restaurants I've been to in the city: I had a great time here and walked away genuinely impressed. I’ll admit I was hesitant at first because the reviews were pretty polarizing—people either seemed to love it or really dislike it. Concerns about undercooked rice or it being labeled “party sushi” gave me pause, but after actually going, those worries completely disappeared. The quality of the fish was excellent, and the rolls had just the right amount of rice. More importantly, the rice was not only properly cooked but clearly well-prepped, which made every piece feel intentional and balanced. Service and execution were standout positives. The sushi chef was incredibly friendly, attentive, and efficient. Even though the pace was fast, nothing felt sloppy or rushed. Simple requests—water, ginger, or anything else—were anticipated and delivered almost immediately. One highlight was the ground wagyu roll, which was torched perfectly: cooked enough to avoid that unpleasant raw texture while still preserving the richness and quality of the wagyu. That said, the experience isn’t for everyone. The service runs quickly, and the crowd skews younger, which might feel energetic or rushed depending on what you’re looking for. The restaurant also operates on strict 90-minute seating blocks, which can feel rigid at first. Even so, despite already being well into the three rounds of unlimited sushi within the first 30–40 minutes, everything was spaced out so thoughtfully that we were able to enjoy the entire 90 minutes without ever feeling pushed out. When we arrived a few minutes early, it initially seemed like we weren’t being acknowledged, but it quickly became clear the staff was fully focused on making sure current guests received their full time. Once seated, we were treated exceptionally well. The sake program added a lot to the experience. The four house sakes were all delicious, each with a distinct sweetness level and flavor profile. By the end of what turned into an impromptu sake flight, everyone at the table had a clear favorite. Even if you’re not sure which sake you want, they’ll simply serve all four as you finish each shot, making it easy and fun to explore. I didn’t expect to drink as much as I did, but I definitely got my money’s worth. For sake enthusiasts, there are also two premium sakes available for unlimited drinking at an additional cost. I’ve seen some people say this wasn’t their best omakase experience, but it absolutely was mine, and I wholeheartedly believe it set the bar quite high. Sitting at the bar is key—you’re right up front, served as quickly as the chef turns out each roll. He’s informative, engaging, and quick to explain what you’re eating without disrupting the flow. Overall, what might sound like a “party” concept on paper turned out to be a well-executed, thoughtfully run omakase with high-quality fish, great sake, and attentive service. I’m really glad I gave Souraji a chance, and I’d happily return.
I went here for my solo birthday dinner on a Sunday evening at 5:30 and let me tell you it’s such a blast and pleasant surprise. 12 pieces of sushi I don’t even have photos of, every bite was heavenly and I was doing little happy dance in my tiny bar chair because it was just wonderful. Fish was so fresh with amazing seasoning based on the fish and just no words. Free flow of sake and beer and other drinks is a bit diabolical to be honest. 🤣🤣 the dragon god sake was absolutely insane. I can sip that thing all day and night. People next to me had plum wine and seem to be good too. Also have beer and tea etc. All you can eat comes later but the downside is you can only order once. So you really have to think like playing a game. I went for 2/4/6 but next time I’ll definitely get more. Those toro were so good 🥹🥹🥹 Vibe was great. The waiter was chatty and funny, and I made friends with people next to me during the meal, rather a casual and fun vibe than what I expected but in a good way. Will come back for sure when I’m more hungry and will plan my all you can eat part better lol. Thanks for making my bday dinner such a good memory.
Everything here was amazing from food to the service to the amazing staff. Every bite was bursting with flavor and they have an ayce portion after the omakase. You really can’t beat the price either. The staff was so welcoming and friendly I felt like I was having dinner at my friends house. Will def be back again and def recommend to everyone
One of my favorite things about myself is that when I take an L, I'm very consistent in getting my lick back. I'll do anything to get a lick back. However, one lick I have been unable to get back is Montezuma. Bro just has my NUMBER. The last 4 times I have gone to Mexico I got sick as a dog. Montezuma is getting every last bit his revenge for Hernán Cortés massacring and enslaving the Aztecs. Talk about getting a lick back... All this to say, I had a dinner planned with my girlfriend's cousin at SourAji to demolish the all you can eat omakase here. When I committed to the res 9 days prior, I had no idea I would still be in a DOGFIGHT with Montezuma... and what was I gonna do? Cancel last minute? How would that look to my girlfriend's cousin? In hindsight, I should have absolutely canceled as raw fish is the last thing I should have been eating. But hindsight is always 20/20, we need to look forward. We entered the clean Japanese interior of SourAji and were seated at the bar. One of the chefs looked at me and said "Are you the chicken guy!? I love your videos!" I wish I could have interacted with him more and gotten his name, but I was so locked in on trying to have a solid poker face. The first 14 pieces of sushi were delicious, and I got through them pretty easy. I was feeling myself. However, after the omakase course, they come around and give you 3 options for all you can eat. You get to pick however many lean tuna, fatty tuna, and wagyu nigiri you want. Anything you don't eat, you have to pay for. Big cuz leaned over to me and said "We are about to go CRAZY! How many do you think you're gonna get?" I said "probably like 3 each..." which sounded like a lot in my current state. He responded with "THREE!??! THAT'S IT!??! I thought you were a big dog..." I upped it to 6 each to which he said "THAT'S IT!?!" But 6 each, 18 total pieces of nigiri, was more than I thought I could possibly finish. I informed him I was operating at around 43% of my full strength right now. I got 6 of each, and he got 6 lean tuna, 8 fatty, and 10 wagyu nigiri. TANK. I made it through the first 12 somehow, but when those last 6 wagyu nigiri came... man. I had to look myself in the face and say "who are you as a man?" I was scarfing them down and chugging water. I picked up the last piece with my chopsticks, beads of sweat rolling down my face, and shoved it in my mouth against my will. Job finished. He said "we have to come back when you're at full strength." Absolutely we do, I’ll be back to do some DAMAGE. IG @jnov_ Tiktok @jnov__
This was a really fun omakase. The service is excellent, and the fish is fresh. The sake does not stop flowing. Come here really hungry. After your 14 course you have 3 more rounds of limitless ordering but make sure you order exact because you have to finish what you order on top. Unlimited miso soup too!
The all you can drink and eat omakase experience was amazing. Kudos to the staff for letting us sit before our reservation started. Thanks for the chef to allow me to reorder 10 additional pieces of wagyu sushi. And lastly huge thanks to Thai! For the drinks refills and extra Mochi ice cream!!!!
- 12 pieces from the omakase - unlimited pieces of tuna, toro, & wagyu nigiri - you order the amount you want for all three just once at the end - all you can drink sake, plum wine, etc - miso soup - mochi ice cream at the end our service was solid and the sushi was really good! i went to souraji west last year and it was really lovely as well. the miso soup is sooooo good I want to make it myself lol we were also struggling to finish all our pieces 😭 but since the place wasn’t fully booked the next round we were allowed to stay a bit longer and finish up 🙏🙏 thank god. i would probably recommend souraji west over souraji butttt they’re definitely basically the same! really solid option if you’re tryin to get full on some gourmet sushi
Overall a great experience with friends. This is a straight forward omakase that has all you can drink, followed by one order of all you can eat of three types of sushi. The three types offered were lean tuna, fatty tuna, and seared wagyu. There is a small dessert course at the end unless you order too much sushi and run out of your reservation time. Do not yet your hubris get the best of you and you will enjoy the ayce portion 🤣. 4 stars was because the services felt a little disjointed and the restaurant started becoming uncomfortably hot. Overall it was a good experience and the nigiri were flavorful with an appropriate rice ratio.
Highly recommend booking ahead of time. This is the second AYCE omakase I have been to and I believe is better than the first one. The fish overall are thicker in general that the other place. This place focus on tuna toro and Wagyu for the extra pieces. While the other one has scallop, it really depends which one you want to go for. AYC drink also bring a different aspect to this. There are plum wine which is a personal favorite. I feel the drink selection for a AYCE and drink is much better here than the other. You might call this a more “omakase” feel while the other is more converter belt like. As a matter of fact, I would skip sushi by bou and come here instead. You will feel a lot more satisfy. Also, mochi ice cream in the end. This is very good bang for the buck. Other AYCE omakase offer scallop but this place offer tuna, otoro and Wagyu. Would come again.
The seating was tight and an unpleasant experience getting seated. Got the omakase and unlimited (but limited drinks and AYCE.) Appetizer was bland and served in a cheap wafer. Some of the fish selections was good- seam bream, scallops, uni- but the waygu...a shame even to be called that. It was grisly and couldn't chew through it. The rice was super soggy but the drinks were flowing, ended with a mochi ice cream in a plastic pouch. The whole experience seemed like a college temu omakase experience. It was not worth the 💰
Went on a Friday night and the place was totally packed. It was super loud and felt really cramped. Our server didn’t even say hi, just walked up to the table like we were an inconvenience. When he realized we weren’t 21, he took the wine and glasses away without saying anything. Didn’t even ask if we wanted something else to drink. Later another server came to tell us the names of the nigiri, but my family called me because of an emergency so I picked up the phone. She just walked away mid sentence and never finished. The service the whole night was honestly terrible. The nigiri was fresh, I’ll give them that, but that’s about it. I wouldn’t come back. Definitely not worth the money.
These guys ruined the experiences of Omakase. The sushi rice was undercooked. The fish was cut small and thin with a big roll of undercooked rice. Our chef is probably a newbie. He didn't deliver the sushi to your plate carefully; instead, he threw (or tossed) them. The newbie chef used too much fire-gun on the beef sushi. The only positive thing was the service which the servers kept offering the unlimited Sake. This is a copycat Omakase operating by people who don't care about the true experience of it, the presentation of the items, and the quality of the food. I didn't bother to take enough pictures.
Should’ve checked the reviews before we went. The food is way overpriced for its quality. 100 per person for a rushed 12 piece sushi omakase. The atmosphere was horrible, loud and crowded room, single bathroom, fold up chairs. The sushi tasted not fresh, the wagyu seemed overcooked as it tasted bitter. The all you can eat is after the course but you can only order once and if you over order, you have to pay. They said “homemade ice cream for dessert” it was actually just a plastic sealed mochi that had freezer burn. Although I do have to compliment the servers, very polite and fast.
We tried the all you can eat omakase experience at SourAji and while the food was delicious, the experience was quite rushed. Make sure you arrive on time because they basically start right at the time your reservation is. The first 14 courses of the omakase was a blur and the fish was great. If you sit at the bar, the drinks require you to flag down the waiter to pour you more. The all you can eat portion comes in 3 rounds and you have to specify how many pieces of each round you want and that’s all you get. The pieces are quite big so you fill up quite fast. Would recommend trying once but maybe not again.
I didn’t have high expectations but for an omakase restaurant the fish is not good. The main appeal is in it’s AYCE and unlimited alcohol, however, with that they sacrifice enjoyment of the customers + quality of the fish for speed. Although customers have 90 minutes to eat, it’s still so rushed to the point the pieces are shoved on your plate 2-3 pieces at a time. The chefs didn’t even have enough time to introduce the pieces to us and it didn’t have that comforting hospitality that I expect most omakase places to have. The AYCE section is only limited to lean tuna, fatty tuna, and wagyu so the flavors get tiring fast. After a while of eating the sushi, all you get left with is a taste of metal and fishy-ness. The service is decent, and the place is very busy and sort of cramped. Overall, I would not come back again.
Went on a weekend night, full house. Place itself could use an upgrade, had a hole in the wall feel. Chefs were responsive, hosts were friendly but maybe too friendly?, give patrons space. Various sake offerings were a nice touch. Enjoyed omakase but if commitment makes you uncomfortable, you may not enjoy the ayce because you apparently pay for what you don't finish. For the salmon round, they had me choose in advance the # of pieces. Then while I was eating it, they asked me the same for the toro round, & then finally for wagyu. Overall, the food quality is just ok, varied by fish, didn't feel worth the $100 bill. Would not go back!
I needed to read reviews first but I really wanted to try this “experience”. I left so irritated, cause it’s extremely loud, there were mostly men literally screaming and yelling instead of talking. I got overstimulated and couldn’t enjoy. I liked the fish, but rice was not fully cooked. How I you can charge that much and have a hard rice? ? They have kids menu. My daughter is extremely picky. So they don’t tell you what they gonna serve. They gave her 3 different types of rolls which is pretty weird for kids options. I ended asking for rice cause my didn’t like it. Service is bad for sure!! 0 vibes. Not worth the money at all😭
I came here and ate 55 pieces total. The business model is kinda a scam and made the experience so much unenjoyable. They ask u to order each round before u even got a chance to eat and finish the previous round. It just seems so rushed and “gambling”. The quality of the wagyu is actually trash and makes me want to throw up after a few pieces. The omakase portion was very standard and below mid. For the price and the experience, I would never come back. Aww I tickled the sensitive guy running their SM. If u truly care about ur business, maybe take customer feedback and change the way u operate.
Alright, first and foremost, let me clarify that the sushi was indeed good and above average. However, it was incredibly loud, making it difficult to have a conversation with anyone. Additionally, the service was unprofessional and the dress code was too casual. The dining experience felt rushed, with three plates of omakase being served within just 20 minutes. The $100 omakase experience turned out to be nothing more than a hurried and rushed dining experience. This is probably the worst Omakase experience I’ve had, I don’t recommend you to come here. Attached are videos that provide a better perspective on the loudness of the restaurant.
