Came here for my birthday Sparks never disappoints. Started with drinks had the mozzarella and tomato and the broiled shrimp absolutely delicious. There were three of us we had one filet mignon one steak and peppers and one steak with the mushrooms nothing was horrible let me tell you we went out with bags cuz we could not eat anymore. We also had their famous hash browns delicious broccoli it's just steamed nothing fancy I would not necessarily get this again. Would definitely go for the hash brown potatoes and the creamed spinach again. We had cheesecake for dessert delicious. The atmosphere is old school dark woods elegant great service, clean, very friendly.

Delicious meal with fantastic service! I felt like we were taken care of extremely well by the staff. Our waiter Miguel was top notch and will request him again whenever I return. A surprise cocktail was crafted for me which was perfect (would highly recommend the pomegranate martini). The house wine was fine but nothing to write home about. The bourbon cocktails were also fantastic. Well worth the price but definitely a venue for more special occasions. For appetizers, we ordered the mozzarella and tomato dish as well as the mixed vegetable salad. Both were delicious. Served with olive oil and vinegar. For the main entrees, we ordered the filet mignon and strip steak 'medium rare plus'. They looked slightly on the undercooked side but it didn't taste like that. It tasted fantastic! The filet was quite thick but melt in your mouth delicious. Would definitely recommend the filet over the strip steak but it's also a personal preference. We also got a side of brocolli, asparagus, and sauteed onions. All tasty. Didn't think the sauteed onions were necessary for the filet but perhaps for the strip steak. Dessert was walnut pecan pie a la mode with a side of coffee. Delicious.

I had made a reservation here several years ago not knowing they were on strike and when I showed up there was a union line to cross. I’m a union girl so I said ok I definitely have to come back here when the strike is settled. So many steakhouses so little time… I’m obsessed with the decor. It reminds me of when I was a kid and going out to eat was an exciting experience. I truly miss when restaurants used to look like that. I don’t have much to say about the service. It was neither impressive nor upsetting 🤷🏼‍♀️ I wasn’t wild about the bread but I was glad because who wants to waste valuable stomach space on bread. We had the buffalo mozzarella appetizer. The extra thick veal chop was perfectly seasoned, seared, and crusted and perfectly raw inside. Most places cannot achieve this. The creamed spinach also had a perfect balance and was not soupy or overly creamy. The mushrooms were underwhelming. My husband had his usual…filet/mash. I loathe mashed potatoes but they truly looked beautiful and silky. For dessert I was torn between the default chocolate truffle and the mixed berries Romanoff. I was glad they were out of the truffle because the Romanoff was wonderful.

Everything about this place is excellent. Best steak, great wine list, only thing that's disappointing is the bread. They switched to whatever they're using now a year ago, must be to save money. Great waiters and vibe.

Best salmon ever. The service was amazing and sets the standard. I started with the Buffalo Mozzarella with tomatoes. It was the freshest mozzarella I’ve ever had, and the waiter said it arrived daily from Buffalo. Great atmosphere and even better food.

O
Omer Hayun

Great stake house. I'm not a big meat eater, but the filet mignon was a huge dish and was easily sharable (we didn't know so each person got one, non of them even finish a third of it because of the size). I had the salmon which was very good. The spinach cream side was very good.

The restaurant’s commitment to hospitality extends beyond the menu. Guests with special dietary needs will find attentive accommodations, including gluten-free selections prepared with the same care as the classics. For those seeking a more intimate setting, Sparks also offers private dining rooms, available through its reservation services. With its combination of culinary excellence and timeless New York atmosphere, Sparks continues to embody the essence of refined steakhouse dining.

I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude for the wonderful evening I spent at Sparks Steak House. The moment I stepped into the establishment, I felt like a special guest. The cozy atmosphere, exquisite interior, and impeccable service set the tone for a perfect dinner. The waitstaff were attentive and considerate, displaying professionalism and a thorough knowledge of the menu. The steak was undoubtedly the highlight of the evening. The meat was of exceptional quality and cooked to perfection, accentuating its natural flavor and juiciness. The side dishes served with the steak were equally impressive and complemented the main course harmoniously. I must also mention the wine list. The sommelier helped us choose the perfect wine for our dinner, which made the taste of the dishes even richer and more memorable. Thank you for an unforgettable dinner. Sparks Steak House truly stands out for its commitment to quality and high level of service. I eagerly look forward to visiting again and will definitely recommend it to friends and family looking for an exceptional dining venue.

We had a blast here. The atmosphere, the food and the service were top notch. My server , Anas, was one of the best waiters I’ve ever had at any restaurant. I can’t recommend this place enough. We had the filet mignon, the strip steak , potatoes and the mushroom caps. All were top notch. Can’t wait to visit again.

My boyfriend took me here for my birthday last night. I love the traditional steakhouse look! We shared a bottle of wine, caesar salad, each had the filet mignon (which I didn't ask how many ounces it was, but realized when they came out that we could've shared), with two sides and we were stuffed! I didn't want to have to carry anything as we were going out after, but wanted to save room for dessert. So ended up taking some of the steak home. Little did I know that they came out with a complimentary slice of cheesecake with Happy Birthday written on the plate. I did not know that was going to happen as I only asked for the weekend to be low key. We got there early and definitely packed out by the time we left. I really liked how the tables are set up and the paintings on the wall, bottles of wines just everywhere. The staff was wonderful and the pace at which everything came out was good. It was an awesome start to my birthday!

Proper traditional steak restaurant in mid-town with old-fashioned attentive service and lovely ambience. I have to say the Prime Sirloin steak served medium rare was one of the loveliest steaks I've had this decade. And I eat a lot of steak. Says it all. I'll be back.

The only eat I can describe my filet is to say it was creamy like butter. The saltiness and moisture of heartiness with a touch of power. It was not just a dining experience it was rejuvenating my personal strength. I ate steak not to eat it but here I experienced the strength and power of the cow transferred to me. It was a spiritual experience as well dining. I felt the genetic history of a hunter and the pleasure of consuming what I had killed. It was a connection to my primordial self!!

Sparks is fantastic. It's the only restaurant in nyc that my wife and I keep coming back to. The Chilean Sea Bass was the best I've ever had.

D
Danny

Traditional old school steakhouse. This doesn’t try to compare to a Benjamin’s or a Peter Luger as they don’t try for the Porterhouse for 2 meal. They have quite the extensive wine listing and make a fantastic filet mignon. Traditional sides like potatoes and spinach. Overall very good steakhouse. The desserts are expected but the walnut pecan pie wasn’t as good as expected as it’s served cold (doesn’t appear fresh).

This is hands down my favorite steakhouse in the city (from someone who grew up here). I have been to all the so called best places for the most part and for some reason nothing can beat sparks. The atmosphere is so classic and timeless. It is the epitome of a steakhouse. Waiters are highly trained and the service is excellent. The food is very well priced and you get what you order. No special presentation, just the perfect version of whatever it is you order. Order a steak? You get a plate with the best steak you have ever tried on it and nothing else. It’s everything you want from a steakhouse with nothing more or less. It’s a classic old fashioned nyc style steakhouse and I will be coming back for the rest of my life. 10/10 recommend. You cannot go wrong with anything on the menu.

Spectacular lunch. First time back since covid and everything was perfect. Champagne split was icy cold! Special mixed vegetable salad of asparagus, broccoli, spinach was delightful. Chilean Seabass was perfectly prepared. The prime sirloin steak was delicious and perfectly prepared. Our side of steamed broccoli was great and was served with a heated plate! Service was very attentive. The pecan pie could not have been better. Sparks is a promise, that has always been kept!

Just had yummy prime sirloin steak at this OG steak house in NYC 🙌🏼 The portion was HUGE, so we had to share 🤣 But seriously, the steak was cooked to perfection and had the most amazing flavor 🤤 And the melon prosciutto was a must-try – the melon was so sweet and paired perfectly with the prosciutto.

This is a great post war steak house. Very classic American vibe. The funniest part about this is they don't have that many cuts of meat. They don't serve the combined porterhouse. You have to choose filet or strip. Also don't have the ribeye. But honestly I think it's great. You know you're going to come here and get a delicious cut of steak. Comes exactly how you like it. Salt is perfect and the meat is sweet. Sides are well cooked and well portioned. I dare say ordering a strip and a few sides is a healthy balanced meal that doesn't leave you feeling bad. Desserts are good too. Everything comes on beautiful flatware. Tables are nice and spaced out and there are nice pastoral paintings adorning every wall. Truly a pleasant and enjoyable experience with friends.

One of the best steakhouses I have visited in New York, or anywhere else for that matter. The service was excellent, they knew the menu cold, and suggested great wine. The steak was huge! Perfectly seasoned, just delicious. We also ordered fish which was magnificent. I expected the least from the sides, but even that was an unexpected surprise. All in all it was a terrific dinner in a great place.

S
Sinnamin Brown

I hosted dinner for our team in one of their private rooms. We ordered our own appetizers and proteins as well as multiple sides for the table. I had the Oysters, the Lamb Chops, Asparagus, Mushrooms, and Potatoes. The food was delicious and the portions were large. Also, the service was excellent. Someone told the staff that it was my birthday and they brought out dessert for the table. I would return again for dinner.

We have been to Sparks a couple of times for dinner and once lunch over the years. This is one of the must visit, historical, steakhouses in NYC. The wine list is out of this world, maybe the best I've ever seen, especially the half bottle list, which is beyond amazing. The food and service have always been solid on every occasion. Love this place!

T
Theo de Haas

For appetizers we had the baked clams and the lump crabmeat For the entree we had the signature sirloin and the sliced beef with onions and peppers, with a side of salad and creamed spinach. The appetizers were ok, but not outstanding. The 5 stars are really for the meat, which was perfect and, incidentally, is the main reason you should visit this iconic steak house in midtown east. Service was excellent, as were the Martini's.

Exceptional service! A friendly, relaxed atmosphere in an elegant dining space. At Sparks, there was a jovial spirit in the air with people laughing out loud and having a good time. The friendly energy was infectious because we were chatting and laughing at our table, too. Some fine dining places are usually stiff and contained, not here. Sparks has delicious food served with minimal frills. We had a wide range of dishes, from vegetables to seafood and more. The protein dishes were generous portions served without extras, and you could order a side of vegetables to complement your dish. I don't eat meat yet, I had an easy time picking foods I could enjoy. I had a delightful mixed green salad with an excellent vinegarette and some hash brown fries. Others in my party had fish, beetroots salad, steak, and another type of salad, but I don't think it was Ceaser Salad. Honestly, we shared a variety of salads, sautéed veggies, and potato dishes. All were freshly made and delicious. The desserts were A+, especially the cheesecake and chocolate mousse/yogurt cake. I would go there again as the warm welcome from the manager and staff made an impact on us. I would recommend Sparks Steakhouse for a fine yet fun dining out.

Our family had a wonderful dining experience. It was a traditional "old school" NY steakhouse. The food and service was exceptional. We enjoyed the Shrimp and Crab Cocktails, Raw Oysters and Ceasars Salad as appetizers. The restaurant was very accomodating allowing us to share steak and fish entrees to create our own surf and turf plates. The kitchen actually split entrees for us- the servings were perfect allowing us to enjoy both the steak and fish options. Portions are large! It was truly a rewarding experience, one that I would highly recommend.

Honestly, some of the best steak that I have had. The atmosphere was warm and cozy. We walked to the restaurant from our hotel. I ordered the Caesar salad and Medallions of Beef. The mushrooms that come on top of the steak were almost as delicious as the steak itself. They added sooo much flavor. Absolutely amazing! I went with a group of 3 others and all sides ordered were shareable between the 4. Portion sizes are big. We had the creamed spinach, mushroom caps, and mashed potatoes. Our waiter, Lucky, gave a 10/10 service and had an amazing personality.

I was definitely expecting less, but I was proved wrong. This place is really really really good! The service was perfect, the food was incredibly delicious (thumbs up for one of the best mozzarellas I've had in a restaurant) and the ambience was great. This is one of the places that are getting into my "must-visit" NYC list. Be careful with the Steak Fromage if you are not a fan of strong cheese!

The absolute best steakhouse in the city. Between the history of the restaurant, the phenomenal service, and the top notch food, you can’t go wrong. This restaurant is my go to every single time I’m in the city. I’ve never left dissatisfied or hungry.

D

The epitome of old school New York steakhouses. What this boils down to is steak, and the verdict is simple: the steak is breathtakingly good. Beautiful cuts of the highest quality meat, seasoned and cooked exactly right. The sides are good, the deserts are terrific - especially the cheesecake of course. The waiters are friendly and helpful and reassuringly of a type. The decor is fabulous. You even have the history of a genimob hit. The wine list is impeccable, though it ranges from expensive (you won't pay under $100 for a bottle) to the take-out-a-mortgage eye-watering ($8000+). But is comes down to the steak and the steak is outstanding.

T

When I lived in NYC, I visited Sparks regularly and they never disappointed. It's been a minute since I've been. So, why the hell am I posting this? A friend sent me a picture of somebody posing as Paul Castellano on the sidewalk recently. Too soon?

Sparks Steak House is a true New York classic. I went to celebrate a lifelong friend after he beat a big case, along with two of his colleagues, and it was the perfect setting. The service was polished and professional, the atmosphere old-school and confident, and the fact that the 70-year-old menu is still this good says everything you need to know. The steaks were excellent—perfectly cooked and full of flavor—and the sides and wine list made it feel like a real celebration. If you’re marking a big win or milestone in NYC, Sparks is exactly where you want to be.

Went on the weekend at 8PM with a reservation. Not too crowded, you can get away without a reservation. The staff is welcoming, very professional, and cares very much about appearance and customer satisfaction. They have an extensive wine selection for all budgets. The food was delicious. The shrimp is fresh and large. The cocktail sauce was perfect. The steak was perfectly cooked. Ordered medium Well, showing pink, but not red. The steak is well seasoned.

I’ve been here many times and the experience is fantastic. It’s definitely the best steakhouse in New York City. The old-school ambience, as good as it gets. I had the fillet which is the best with a lightly charred exterior. Also, the hash brown potatoes are unbelievable. Don’t forget the New York cheesecake. Take a look at my photos. Five out of five.

We recently dined at Sparks Steak House in NYC and had an incredible experience, thanks to our server, Paco. From the moment we sat down, Paco went above and beyond to make our evening special. He was attentive without being intrusive, knew the menu inside and out, and gave fantastic recommendations for both steaks and wine pairings. What really stood out was his genuine care—he anticipated our needs before we even had to ask, ensured everything was cooked to perfection, and checked in at just the right moments. Paco’s professionalism, warmth, and attention to detail turned a great meal into an unforgettable experience. If you’re dining at Sparks, ask for Paco—you won’t be disappointed!!

Came to Spark’s Steakhouse because of the story of Paul Castellano, but I stayed for the incredible food. The street still has this frozen-in-time vibe, even the restaurant looks like time politely stopped somewhere in the late 80s out of respect. The steak? Yeah, it’s expensive. But it was fantastic: perfectly charred outside, juicy inside. We had hash brown potatoes and mushrooms on the side which tasted great as well. The meat portions are big. We were very full, but the friendly waiter convinced us to order a dessert anyway so we shared a cheesecake which tasted good as well.

We live in Rochester Ny and I’ve always wanted to go to Sparks Steakhouse, on Oct 11 2025 we were down in NYC and we went to Sparks for Dinner. I’ll tell you something in 1989 my old man passed away from heart disease so that year was the last time I had eaten any steak. I told myself when I go to Sparks that will be the time I will break that rule and enjoy a nice steak. It was hands down the best steak around and well worth the 36 years I waited to get one. I will be coming back. My waiter was great, he was on top over everything and had a great sense of humor. We will definitely be back

Had to go to this iconic steakhouse because of the history and of course, steak. Not at all disappointed with everything we ordered. We had the steak with the Roquefort cheese, the prime sirloin, tater tots, beef scallopini with mushrooms, and filet mignon. We had accompanying Malbec wines to pair. Everything was great including our server.

A true New York classic. Sparks Steak House is everything a legendary New York institution should be. The food was excellent perfectly cooked steaks, rich flavours, and classic sides done exactly right. The service was attentive and professional, the kind you only get in places with decades of tradition behind them. What really stood out was the atmosphere. The energy in the room is incredible. Knowing the history - from the Gotti era to its iconic place in New York’s mafia lore, makes it feel almost like visiting a museum, but with outstanding food and a vibrant crowd. If you want a real New York experience, Sparks delivers. Highly recommended.

The food was great. The location is pretty big on the inside with seating downstairs where you can have private space etc. The steak was awesome. It is in my top 3 but I can't even remember the other 2 afternoon eating this. The staff was great and they worked as a team. This is the first location where I saw staff members tag team to support the guests. I'll be back for sure. It is an expensive location but it was good overall. I had a four course meal and it was worth the trip. Sorry I don't have more videos. Next time.

Sparks is an amazing steak house with lots of history. The food is always amazing, the service is always great and it’s nice that they’ve kept it traditional. The steaks, the apps, the wine, literally everything is so good and reasonably priced . I highly recommend visiting this steakhouse when you’re in NYC.

Tonight was amazing, a bunch of colleagues/friends went here for a dinner to celebrate the start of a school year. Yes, we are all teachers and wanted a feel of old NYC . From the time we entered until the time we left we were treated with warmth and hospitality. Our server was there to meet our needs and the host who has been working at the restaurant for 44 years provided us with executive level hosting. Our appitizers consisted of bake clams, creamed spinach and an amazing crabmeat dish. As we continued on to our main courses, we all ordered a different cut of steak and from the reactions from four NYC teachers it was beyond standards. All captured by a a cheesecake with vanilla ice cream with fresh fruits and whipped cream. We were then treated to a tour of the restaurant which is part of our overall experience. Just an amazing night with colleagues/ friends in NYC! Give this place a try if you are ever in the area. Oh by the way, their wine selection is beyond exquisite! 👍👍👍👍👍

Went to Sparks Steak House in NYC, and this place is straight-up New York steakhouse royalty. Dim lighting, classic old-school décor, zero gimmicks—just history dripping from the walls and confidence in every plate that hits the table. This is the kind of spot that doesn’t need to chase trends because it is the standard. Started with the shrimp cocktail—big, cold, snappy shrimp, perfectly seasoned, exactly how a power steakhouse should do it. Then came the bone-in filet, and wow… tender, rich, cooked with precision, and full of that deep beefy flavor that only comes from knowing exactly what you’re doing. Paired it with a loaded baked potato—fluffy on the inside, fully dialed in, no shortcuts, no apologies. Now let’s talk about the birthday dessert. Absolute over-the-top decadence. The kind of dessert that makes you reconsider all your life choices up to that moment. Honestly? I’d go back tomorrow just for dessert alone. Service was polished, professional, and effortless—the kind where nothing is rushed and nothing is missed. If you appreciate history, classic steakhouse execution, and top-tier service, Sparks delivers on all fronts. Final verdict: Old-school NYC flavor town at its finest. If you know, you know. And if you don’t—go find out.

A Wonderful Evening at Sparks Steak House We had an absolutely lovely dinner at Sparks Steak House. The steak was cooked to perfection—tender, full of flavour, and truly one of the best we’ve had in a long time. The Caesar salad was just as impressive: fresh, crisp, and beautifully balanced. The atmosphere was classic and elegant, and the service made the experience even better. The waiters were warm, attentive, and genuinely kind. The oldest waiter even told me that if I return, he’ll share the famous Paul Castellano story with me—a charming and unexpected promise that added a touch of mystery to the evening. Overall, delicious food, a welcoming team, and a memorable dining experience. We’d happily return!

A True New York Classic We had a party of 10 at Spark’s Steakhouse in New York and it was exceptional from start to finish. The experience felt timeless. Classic steakhouse atmosphere, old-school service, and a room filled with history. You walk in and immediately know you’re somewhere special. Our group covered at least half the menu. The four-pound lobster was outstanding, perfectly prepared and presented. The formaggi steak was rich and memorable, and the other cuts we ordered were cooked precisely to temperature with excellent flavor and texture. Every plate coming out of the kitchen was consistent and impressive. We shared at least a half dozen sides, all generous and executed the way a proper steakhouse should. Nothing felt rushed. The pacing was excellent, which allowed us to relax, enjoy the evening, and truly connect with friends. Dessert capped off the night perfectly. The entire meal felt celebratory and elevated without being pretentious. Spark’s delivers exactly what you want from a classic New York steakhouse: substance, history, quality, and hospitality. It was a pleasure to experience it with friends, and I cannot recommend it highly enough.

V old school new york steak house.. where the menus are big and the wine list even bigger. Like how much rent are they paying to store it all? Service was great but not the best vibe as its so big and it wasnt too busy. Not the best steak i had ever eaten but not the worst.. great portion sizes we all left very full

So my steak was well done when I ordered medium rare. Disappointing. I could have had them redo but I didn't. Sides were surprisingly unseasoned but that complemented the steak that was in the salty side great desert. Terrible coffee. Gets bumped to 4 stars for atmosphere. There is a reason it's not my favorite steakhouse though.

Old school steakhouse that’s worth the visit. Portions are big and the staff does not rush the patrons. Started with the fresh bufala mozzarella with sliced tomato which was great for sharing. For the entree I went with the prime sirloin steak which was kind of charred (didn’t really expect) on the outside and medium rare as requested on the inside and highly recommend the Hash Brown Potatoes for the vegetables.

Ambiance is very traditional. The location is walkable from Time Square. The restaurant was busy and loud on a Monday night. The service was good but because I wasn’t drinking wine my refills were slower. The food was huge portions, the presentation was great and the food was all flavorful. We had crab and scallops appetizers that were incredible, steaks and fish that were large portions and tasted amazing. It is an expensive meal but you get the quality with this food.

S

Wonderful dinner, exactly what I expect from a steakhouse. Although the service is a bit sloppy at times (the waiter brought wine with wine dripping down the side of the glass, leaving a mark on the table, threw down the butter plate so that butter spilled out onto the table), the food more than made up for that. The only thing that was questionable was the bread, which was tough and tasted a bit metallic. It saved us room for yummy food though. Even the simple green vegetable salad was super flavorful and light, great way to start the meal. Crab meat and scallops were perfectly seasoned and light. And the main dishes were amazing. Lobster was flawless, no need to even dip in the butter sauce since it was bursting with flavor. Steak was cooked well, but a bit more burnt on the outside than I usually like. Mashed potato was like liquid gold, so creamy, smooth, and rich. The simple dessert of berries and vanilla ice cream was the perfect way to end a great dinner. It’s such a simple combination but somehow, the restaurant elevated it even more. It’s understandable why Sparks is one of the top rated steakhouses in NY.

In all honesty, I wanted to visit this steakhouse because I’m intrigued by NYC mafia history. That said, I knew it had a good reputation. Very nice staff. I feel like if we had any special needs or concerns they would have addressed it. It was a pricey dinner. I had the sirloin. Very juicy. Mashed potatoes were good, not great but good. My wife got the beef medallions and wasn’t that impressed, but she did enjoy her meal. The cream spinach just didn’t taste good. We got blackberries for dessert and I got an espresso (which might have been the smallest serving I’ve ever received). We had a total of 6-7 men attending to us over the 75 minutes we were there. Not overly friendly other than an older gentleman who, if I remember correctly, has been there over 50 years. We don’t drink, but I’ve never seen so many wines - over 800! Surprised to see a few customers in hoodies. We weren’t dressed up, but c’mon. Honestly, I believe there are better steakhouses and good, less costly steakhouses in the city, but we enjoyed our meal. Sparks has history. Glad I went. I give it a 7/10.

A
Adam Stewart

Based on other steakhouses, food was just a 4 out of 5. Winelist may have been the most extensive I have seen, and prices weren't ridiculous, comparatively (like 2.25X what you pay at Total Wine). Menu was a little limited. I would have liked to see a bone in ribeye (or any ribeye), bone in filet, or a porterhouse, but all were absent. Their main offering is a sliced sirloin, but I opted for the filet, which was THICK and cooked to medium rare perfection (wicked tendah!). My wife's Shrimp and Lobster were quite good too. Creamed spinach and asparagus were both quite tasty. So why the 4? Well, the Lump Crab Cocktail wasn't. As I am a huge fan of the crab, I order this wherever I can. Common grading of "lump" crabmeat mean that it is generally in chunks the diameter of your fingers (thumbs if lucky). This was small pieces, that were probably "backfin" grade. And it only came with cocktail, horseradish, and Tobasco. Would have liked to include a sauce with less power, like an aoli. Service was quite good. (Note that photos are after our initial first tastes)

If you google “Best steakhouses in NYC”, Sparks will come up. Does it deserve that description? I am currently trying to answer that question for myself after a meal there last weekend. I think the answer I have landed on is probably. In terms of ambience, this place feels totally frozen in time. It’s endearing. It doesn’t whack you over the head with its historic charm like a place like Keens might, and to its credit it’s a lot newer than Keens (at least at this location). Instead it feels completely unaware of itself, and in that way completely authentic. The service was outstanding. The steaks were perfectly cooked and the cocktails were strong. The wine list was huge and very competitively priced. I’m not sure what to deduct points from on here. It feels like there was room for improvement somewhere but I can’t say where. Would definitely come back a second time.

Went for Valentines. Set menu only. We asked for a la carte but wasnt an option. We had steak and sea bass. Both were tasty . Steak was on the rare side of medium. Massive portions!!! Big fish and 14oz filet . Service was not great, had to ask for water and wine to be topped up. Overall a big hearty meal but over priced for what it was. For 2 people with wine was $480

Really cool place. Old school vibe. Landscape paintings line up every well. I mean every wall space! Service was exceptional. Our server Juan thought of everything, including splitting our shared appetizer dish. The dishes were all very good. The filet mignon and sirloin were tender and flavorful! The outside was a bit burned. Old school style … We enjoyed the experience a lot!

A traditional steakhouse in NYC. The steak was good, but not the best Ive ever had. Service was excellent, ambience was nice. Was there for a business dinner and everyone had a good time. By the way the hash browns are more like roast potatoes - very nice!

It’s a steak house and a solid one at that. Our waiter was excellent. I think his name was Jr V. I sat in the HUDSON ROOM first table to the left in the entrance. Everyone is nice- the bartender, the host, waiter and support staff. Only one misstep- the Caesar salad was awful, no was gawd awful. I even shared with them the Caesar salad was invented in Tijuana Mexico. In other words I know Caesar salads and I can make a good Caesar salad. Of course the steaks were good. Prepared as we requested. The bernaise sauce was ok. I had just returned from six weeks in London Rome Istanbul Amman Aswan Luxor Cairo and I asked my young colleague to go to dinner and have a steak and a steak you can only find in USA and especially in NYC. They delivered on the steak! They delivered on American hospitality which steakhouses usually succeed fabulously. Great job!

The history is the reason to come here. Classic NYC Spot but that’s where it ends. Great wine list but I have to say the food was underwhelming. I was disappointed with it. Didn’t feel like it had any love it in. They really don’t even have that many choices for steaks. Service was pretty good, I’ll give them that much. But overall I feel like this is somewhere you go once and then that’s it. Feels like they ride their name and the history but the kitchen is on cruise control and is asleep at the wheel. Better steak houses in the city and pay same amount.

Saw this listed as a steakhouse to try so we did but were not impressed. I have been to much better nyc steakhouses. Staff was great, friendly and attentive but the food is just okay. I have nothing bad to say but also nothing great to say. There was nothing with outstanding flavor snd the most disappointing was the creamed spinach, it was bland.

I have wanted to go to this restaurant forever. Finally made it to NYC with my son. We get reservations. Reservations definitely not needed. We get there on Friday night, place is huge and was sad to see how empty the place was. Our waiter kept pushing us to order certain things on the menu. I finally told him we were ordering filet mignon. Told him I wanted medium rare as I like my filet very pink and juicy. He said it was a cold center and recommended medium as it will be warm and pink. I said OK. Wish I didn't listen to him. The steak came and it was more medium well. Grayish and dry. It wasn't very tender either. It looked and cut like it was a roast. Potatoes were good. Capped mushrooms were not good. (Suggested by our waiter) The broiled shrimp appetizer and their bottled water was the best thing we had.

G
Gina Barley

Atmosphere was great… service well the waiter acted like he didn’t want to be there . Was not very friendly and barely spoke to us. When my husbands steak was less than acceptable because it was cooked medium rare, with rare being most of it, instead of medium he then took an interest in being somewhat hospitable. For the prices that they charge the meat was just ok nothing over the top. The meal was very pricey and unbelievable for sides and appetizers.

I came to this steak house because of the murder of mob boss Paul Castellano outside the restaurant in 1985. I give a chance to try even I saw mix review on the internet. How I feel as a new Yorker? Admitting, here again you can't go to famous place without tourist and most of touristy place has higher price than local place. I expected to get a knowledgeable service with a good taste food but both of them were below my expectations. Steak was ok but my server gave me the wrong wine. He gave me plum wine instead of Moscato. It was obvious that the color of the wine I ordered was different. I actually had a sip to make sure he gave me the right one in case I was wrong, but it turned out to be he gave me the wrong one. I called him but he acted offensive and keep saying it was correct, and it was bartender gave it to him so it shouldn't be mistake. He wanted to prove me wrong so bad so he went back to the bartender and turned out to be the bartender gave me the wrong wine from the beginning. My point was, I expected the server to be knowledgeable enough about everything the restaurant sells and if it is a question from a customer, the server shouldn't have an ego. If he/she didn't know they should ask first before assumption. My opinion, if you want to experience one time restaurant that has a history. You can try here.

We were so excited to come back here again after a few years. Unfortunately this was a way different experience. Our server barely spoke to us, our steak was undercooked, & when we said no to dessert our server told us it was on the house because it was my husbands birthday and then charged us ($16 for a scoop of chocolate ice cream I may add). So disappointed

I was told this was a great place by a friend so we made a reservation before coming into town. The experience was not great. I went with my husband. Our service was sub par.. we asked for the menu for a glass of wine. We are not big drinkers and did not want to order a bottle.. our server looked as us surprised when we asked for the menu for a single glass. We knew the portions were big, so we decided we would order several things and split it so we could try more items. Our sever looked at us like, oh you are not going to spend a lot here. So I guess she did not want to service us. Our mushrooms were cold coming out. Our steak was over cooked- when we asked medium rare. No one was there to refill any water even asking for more water.. I literally had a water bottle in my jacket that I brought out to fill our glasses. It took 20 min to get our check once everything was cleared from the table. We paid in cash and feared it would take another 20 min to get change so we reduced her tip so we could get out of there. I am sure they have better service and food experience than this, because I know my friend would never tolerate this kind of meal.. but for $200 - you might do better going somewhere else…

Traditional American steakhouse with deep roots and solid food. However, they seem to be firmly stuck in the 1980s in more than one way, so you cannot make a contactless payment! The food and overall experience was of excellence and everything I was looking forward to upon my visit to New York City, until one thing that will unfortunately always remain in my memory of Sparks is being requested at the end by the waiter for a bigger tip. This request drained the classiness I felt from this place and has ruined the special memory of this place that would’ve been. It’s a shame such a nice restaurant allows its waiters to extort and manipulate the customers after they’ve already paid full price and left a tip.

L
Lilian Hu Nguyen

Our experience was good until it wasn't. Food was overall good including reasonable portions for the prices. The Chilean sea bass was not salted well - some sides had way more salt while other areas were completely bland. The steaks were all cooked to the proper temperature. The one major negative about our meal was our server. Though very efficient and seem to really want to put on a show, the service was sloppy. There were wine and sauce stains all over our tablecloth from him. He also had a huge problem with upselling every other dish. He would tell us what we shouldn't order and what he would do for us instead. All of his recommendations ended up hitting our bill at the end, and we didn't like any of them. Our server alone really dampened what could have been a great dinner.
