Opinions de Tokyo Taiyaki New York
This place is amazing!! The person that left the complaint about it being raw hasn't had mochi yet I guess? It's perfectly chewy and heavily filled. The fillings aren't too sweet, and the taiyaki by itself is delicious. It's also run by the sweetest couple ever! I highly recommend going to this place if you're in the area :)
I was here at 4 pm to get some nutella + red bean tayaki and it was so so delicious. The girl working here was very kind when i was confused on how to order. I would 100% recommend.
I got matcha soft serve with fruity pebbles and mochi bites! The matcha flavor wasn’t too strong or too sweet. It was perfect with little mochi bites. They also have seasonal special taiyaki and drinks. I’m definitely returning to this cute little shop again to try out taiyaki next time. Update : Back again after months, and it’s still good like the first time. I had a Nutella taiyaki this time. It was warm, crispy, and had a lot of nutella inside. I would say best taiyaki store in nyc!
I actually quite liked this dessert! The Taiyaki gives a delightful chewiness and the ice cream felt like the right balance between the matcha flavor and sweetness. Our dessert was also prepared very quickly. My one “gripe” if any is that there isn’t any space for standing/sitting.
I love their matcha ice cream! And they have great selection of toppings. Yummy!
After an amazing dinner at a local restaurant we decided to head to this small but mighty i cream shop for a delicious Taiyaki, they take your order through a door, they have a variety of flavours to choose from and the service is amazing! We really enjoy this late night treat while strolling around East Village.
I didn't expect it to be so good! It's crunchy on the outside and mochi like on the inside! I got the 2 fillings custard and red bean. Red beans filling is 👌 👍
Very cute little spot! I had the half one with ice cream. Very tasty, I recommend the matcha powder on top. Minimal seating so come with the intention to keep walking while you eat. Quick service and very tasty
Can’t go wrong: half custard Taiyaki, half matcha ice cream with matcha powder and chocolate sprinkles for a crunchy texture. Easiest order of my life. No place to sit down though, pickup only. Order through a machine.
chewy dough with lots of fillings. the dough was pink for valentines day and i got their special which had strawberry jam and white chocolate chips inside. it was really good. however because of how small the space is you will have to mostly wait outside (they do have a heater outside right by the door). and because of demand it may take a while to cook the taiyaki.
Mozzarella cheese taiyaki was shockingly good haha. These guys also made mine fresh to order (as it should be).
IT WAS SOOOOOO GOOD So I went there yesterday and got a Nutella Taiyaki. When I went in the shop they asked me if I wanted to try a strawberry pocky. I said yes and it was so good. And before I left they asked me if I wanted free ice cream to taste. I never tried matcha before so I said yes and of course it was awesome. When I left the store we forgot spoons so one of the workers literally ran and gave us spoons.(I rated everything 5 stars by the way)
Tokyo Taiyaki is such an underrated spot because it is hidden on the second floor but their dessert did not miss. I got the red bean taiyaki and the taiyaki cone with a variety of toppings and it was sooo good. The bread was fresh and mochi-like and paired perfectly with the red bean. I loved the matcha ice cream!! It was incredibly creamy and the flavor profile of the matcha was not too sweet and not bitter either. I think their matcha lattes are a nice addition but the desserts definitely shine through. I think they deserve extra love since they are a one-man store.
Get the CHEESE TAIYAKI!!!!! A delicious savory snack with crispy mochi dough for the outside. Mind blown, I want more savory taiyaki options now!!!!

Had the sweet potato taiyaki; delicious, soft and warm. All the people saying it’s undercooked probably haven’t had mochi before lol. Please educate yourself before posting and misinforming people 😂😂
Best matchs soft serve ive had. Great w oren crumble!
Super good, super fast and they put so many toppings on it for free. Pretty standard New York prices for ice cream so the toppings bit surprised me. Perfect sweet treat. Hope they expand to more flavors soon, but even if it’s a day they only sell matcha it’s still worth it. No place to sit, except stoop if you’re into that. Very sanitary and COVID-19 cautious which is always appreciated. Just order at the screen outside and then pick it up.

I was pleasantly surprised by this place! I didn't care much for the custard filling in my custard/red bean taiyaki, but the red bean was so great it canceled it out- I'd recommend it as a go to filling here. Nice texture, perfect balance of sweet to savory. The taiyaki itself was very nicely done, gold and toasty. I've been missing it badly- I'm gonna have to go back soon for another. The matcha soft serve also hit the spot, the sweet angel person behind the counter gave me free mochi with it! Which was very nice and kind and it's not even relevant that the mochi itself was a dried out mess. But back to the soft serve. Soft served (great texture), not too sweet, good matcha flavor, went well with the red bean taiyaki and chocolate drizzle. Extremely solid dessert, I was thrilled with it. Happy to have a new go to

Updated (Sept 2024): attempted to go a couple Sundays ago before realizing that it's actually closed on Sundays. Went back again today, and was told that the sweet potato is no longer on the menu. This was the only reason I came here, and was a filling that made this place unique among the taiyaki places in NYC. They weren't able to tell me when it'd be back on the menu, so I guess it'll be a while before I come back again. It's too bad, I used to buy several at a time. Original review (May 2024): What a find! I’ve been missing the sweet potato taiyaki from Osaka, and although this is not nearly as good, it’s as good as it’s going to get for NYC (I’ve had MUCH worse). The dough was fresh and chewy, and the sweet potato filling was generously added and had the right amount of sweetness.

I gave this two stars, but maybe it deserves one. The taiyaki was not fully cooked and I got a few mouthfuls of raw dough. This was after it took like 15 minutes to make. I gave most of mine to my dog who also sniffed it weirdly (not hungrily like dogs do when they like something). My husband threw most of his away. Do better!

This was the most disappointing food establishment I've ever had the displeasure of even being in the vicinity of. Not only was the cashier completely unprofessional and seemingly didn't want to do his job, but I had several of the people in my group have 30+ minute waits. There is no excuse for such a subpar exlerience. Oh, and the food was mid and undercooked. You'd be better off starving. At least you'd be sure it was coming.
