Since 2005 I have visited Toledo when I'm in NYC. It never ever disappoints. This classic Spanish cuisine has such amazing dishes. The atmosphere is beautiful. The service is superb. There really isn't a poor choice on the menu. I favor paella, but I have delighted in many dishes. The crème brûlée is absolutely amazing. If you love sangria, then it is delicious. But, whatever you do? Visit Toledo! And, it never fails that guests are kind to each other. The staff is welcoming, kind, and so helpful! Thank you to Fernando and Marcelo!

Toledo is a classic Spanish spot that feels like a hidden treasure—one that’s hard to find in the city anymore. The place is immaculately clean, with impeccable service to match. Vilmar, the bartender, made sure we felt right at home with top-notch drinks. We started with a chorizo, shrimp Villeroy, and stuffed mushrooms with crab—each dish was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back for the paella—it’s definitely on my list. If you’re looking for an authentic, cozy spot, Toledo’s a winner.

My first visit with my dad is an excellent experience! The regal atmosphere feels like we are transported in Barcelona, Spain. I love their service and high quality food. This restaurant has been operating since 1975 so you can feel their history. I highly recommend coming here to eat Classic Spanish cuisine and enjoy your experience.

Juan was a consummate professional. This is proper old school Spanish food. Like going back in time but not stale in any way. Menu is extensive and classic in the sense the dish titles say it all - no flowery ingredient descriptions needed. Perfect temperature and seasoning of classic dishes.

This is my new "go to" restaurant for Spanish cuisine. Since Spain restaurant closed due to the pandemic, I've been looking for a restaurant whose cuisine was similar to that of Spain Restaurant (W 13 St btwn 6th & 7th Aves). I've FINALLY found it! TOLEDO RESTAURANT is AWESOME!!

My friend is elderly and likes a quiet restaurant with table covers which are now few and far between in NYC. We had dined here back before 2000 and decided to try it again for our holiday meal. Just perfect! The food was wonderful and service was excellent. Thanks for a memorable dinner.

My second favorite class in college was public speaking. My favorite assignment in said class was to talk about anything I wanted for 10 minutes. I chose to talk about bananas. There is only one type of banana that is commercially sold, the Cavendish. Since there is only one main type of banana, one disease that does not get along with our good old friend the Cavendish could wipe out nearly the whole population of bananas. This is what is happening now. Bananas are going extinct. If we could cross breed the Cavendish with another type of banana, then this new banana could have the genetic resistance to fight the new disease. But! Most Cavendish bananas do not have seeds, and you need seeds to cross breed (only 1 in 12,000 Cavendish bananas have a seed). In an effort to try and get ahold of a Cavendish banana which could cross-breed, scientists are crushing thousands of bananas in an attempt to find some seeds. To showcase this during my speech, I took a towel out of my backpack, laid the towel on the floor, and took out a ziploc bag with a banana. I looked around the room, and jumped on the banana, crushing it for everyone to see. Unfortunately, there was no seed to be found in my banana. Given that I am unable to solve the problem of bananas going extinct, I thought I might as well enjoy the glorious banana fruit while I still can. And that is certainly what I did at Toledo. The grey sole with bananas and hollaindaise sauce immediately caught my eye as I peered through the menu. My parents said “David, don’t get that”, but I got it anyways. I’m such a rebel. After an adequate amount of time in between order time and delivery time, the waiter came and lowered the plate in front of me. At first, I was confused, the bananas were nowhere to be found! But I soon realized they have been browned through cooking. I realize I am giving an incredible amount of detail right now without even telling you how the fish dish tasted! It was lovely. I have never had such a beautiful sweet fish before. It made me think, “why don’t we put bananas on everything!” I was beyond satisfied. At the end of my banana speech I said “Now the story of the banana is much more interesting than you probably imagined. Just as you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, don’t judge a banana by its peel” (for additional dramatic flare, at this moment I also brought an additional banana out of my backpack and unpeeled it while I said this line) Don’t judge a book by its cover, and don’t judge a grey sole by its banana.

Great tasting food, friendly and helpful service. The baked snapper with house special sauce was good, albeit a bit salty. The restaurant does not allow us to open our own wines, so we ordered 3 bottles from the expansive wine list. Overall a memorable dinning experience. Will come back for sure. The setting and decor is along the classic and traditional theme.

It’s a 5* restaurant, but food had issues. Main courses were excellent, but did not ring especially Spanish. Went for lunch so could be a contributing factor, but the complimentary items are all off, the bread was served with butter and was decent, the potatoes seemed to be cooked in old oil, and the rice was a little off as well. These are easy enough to ignore as you did not come to this place for these items, but just adds a element that takes away from the overall experience.

The octopus, while commendably tender, was unfortunately drenched in olive oil, to the point that it overwhelmed rather than enhanced the dish. A similar fate befell the mushrooms stuffed with crab meat: a decent concept in theory, but again, the excessive use of olive oil dulled the flavors instead of elevating them. Our waiter enthusiastically recommended the baked red snapper, describing its preparation in great detail. The dish was enjoyable overall, but I found it difficult to justify the price point based on the flavor alone. What made the evening even more surreal was the complete absence of other diners—we were the only two guests in the entire restaurant. It almost felt as though my date had gone to the extravagant lengths of renting out the place for the evening. While it did add an oddly luxurious and private feel to the night, it also left us wondering why the place was so empty. Upon arrival, the host presented us with the option of simply "red or white wine," which was oddly amusing and left us wondering if that was the extent of their wine selection. Moments later, another waiter arrived with what he called the "Bible" of wine menus—complete with a table of contents. We opted for the Spanish house white wine, which proved to be unremarkable and forgettable. The restaurant’s interior evoked strong memories for me. With its traditional décor and classic paintings, it bore a striking resemblance to the dining hall of the preschool I attended in Italy—formal, nostalgic, and oddly evocative of childhood PTSD. Despite the culinary missteps, I must commend the staff for their warmth and professionalism. They were attentive, accommodating, and refreshingly nonjudgmental, which made the overall experience more pleasant than it might have otherwise been.

I found the food to be ok. There was too much saffron on my rice, and my chicken did not have that much salt/flavor. The fish was very tasteless. The restaurant itself is lovely.

We had a very disappointing experience at Toledo. We were a group of five celebrating our last evening together before friends returned to Tokyo. Unfortunately, the service did not match the level expected for a $50–100+ restaurant in Manhattan. We were not given menus until we requested them, and when we asked for a drink menu, we were told there wasn’t one, which later appeared to be untrue. Our main dishes took over 40 minutes to arrive. Requests for knives were ignored twice, and when we asked again, the response was abrupt. When we mentioned our fries were missing, there was no acknowledgment. What made us uncomfortable was noticing a clear difference in attentiveness compared to nearby tables. It was disappointing for what was meant to be a special evening.
