Sapori Ristorante is a well-regarded Italian restaurant in Newport Beach, known for its authentic Italian cuisine, generous portions, and great atmosphere. Many reviewers specifically praise the pizza, and several mention excellent service. Some found the noise level high when busy.
Tip: The pizza is thin crust and cooked great. Consider ordering it, or the meatballs, which are described as 'to die for'.
First time at this local italian eatery. Loved the atmosphere and was very impressed with the salads and pizza that we ordered. Staff was cheerful and friendly.
Probably the best or one of the best pizza places, if you really want it made in Italian way. I love how thin the crust is, so you don't feel like you've eaten a brick, which is often the case with pizza. The service is also excellent, polite and unobtrusive. I highly recommend it!
Some of the best Italian food I have ever had! The meatballs are to die for! this is a true Italian family owned restaurant that’s been here for decades. The ambience was perfect for our date night. We sat outside under the lights and had incredible service.
A go-to favorite spot for our family to gather. Incredible service. Wonderful outdoor seating.
Beautiful Italian restaurant. Great for date. If you want to wear something special, this restaurant is that for. Food is delicious. The Prisoner wine 2021 Cabernet Savignon is my favorite!
This place is very good! Tried both the pizza side and the fine dining restaurant both are amazing! The staff has always been attentive, very good homemade bread and the food is great!! The pizzas are made right in front of you in a brick oven!! I added salmon to my pear salad, I loved it!!
Great, solid and authentic Italian food. Must try. When they have their chicken soup, get it. I wish they’d make it a mainstay!
Sapori is a hidden gem for Italian food in Newport Beach. The food is delicious with really generous portions. I don't think there was anything I disliked and the prices are very reasonable.
I enjoyed it and I'm picky about Italian food, I live on the East coast with plenty of homemade pasta and I have to say this was great. I'd definitely go back. Nice atmosphere and food choices. I had the swordfish off the specials menu and it was perfect. The pasta and meatballs were also very good. Sweet place, a good choice.

Beautiful setting, great Italian food, friendly waiter and service personal.
Delicious food and great service!
Everything I have tried here has been very good, had the lasagna last night and have to say that it is probably the best I have ever had.
Great food, service, atmosphere. A favorite. Paulo was terrific.
Amazing wait staff, tasty food. Would go to again, without hesitation.
Wow!!! Still cant get over the taste of fettuccine alfredo!! Highly recommend
Great food, Excellent service. Very local chill vibe
Favorite restaurant in all of Orange County! Food is always top notch and the service is excellent!!!
old school Italian food, outstanding. spectacular service. modest location.
Nice place, fun location right off Balboa Island. Great food and service.
Excellent service and delicious Italian food! When in-restaurant dining was available, they have a lovely patio which felt like outdoor dining. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
The food is delicious and the service is wonderful. Makes for a very nice Italian dining experience.
Table of 5 this evening. Sarah was our server and she was outstanding. Great service, personable, knowledgeable and fun. Food was great.
Once they opened up their pizza shop I started coming here on a regular basis. The pizza is fantastic and a definite must try for anyone who love authentic italian food.
This is our go-to especially for special occasions. Paolo is the best!!!
Fantastic service, food is terrific, and an excellent wine list. I had the Sea Bass at my last visit and everything was fresh and simple.
I've been going there for 10 plus years It's always been great.
Excellent food and service. Outdoor patio seating with white table clothes. Special place with walk up parking.
If you love Mexican food, then this is not the place to go because it's Italian food.. the entire menu is mouth watering but the pasta is the best
They treat you like VIPs. Great food, atmosphere! It's in a strip mall and wouldn't know it but, it is a great place!
Loved it! The food was great, the service and ambience was pleasant, and the $$ wasn't bad (for Newport Beach).
Cute place with awesome spaghetti & meatballs. A few hundred yards from the bridge to Balboa Island where one can enjoy a nice after dinner walk.
Excellent experience. Food was great. Service was top notch
True Italian restaurant, great atmosphere, food and staff. We really felt to be at home, highly recommended!
lowkey spot with the best vibes and food, one of the best places to eat an intimate setting around OC, come here at least once a month , love it
I got the Chinese chicken salad. It was good. I git to sit outside, and they brought the meal to me. Friendly staff!
Lovely evening, cozy environment, food was delicious, and service was perfect from start to finish!
Amazing food, and a really great environment. Right next to Balboa Island, and it has a really romantic and enjoyable outdoor seating area with a fireplace and he dares surrounded by a garden of greenery. The waiters are extremely professional and classy, and most of them are actually Italian. All in all just a great place with amazing food
I am italian and I was in LA for few days for a work trip. I had a great pizza at this restaurant. The owner and the chef are Italian and so are all of the ingredients they use. Also the calamari I had as appetizer were great. The service was quick and the waiter nice. The place is very elegant, quiet and clean. Congratulations guys!
I went for the first time alone and had a comfortable experience with seating, great service and excellent food and wine.
Exquisite! Food was possibly the best Italian food I've ever experienced. We ate outdoors but under canvas roll ups and electric heaters, very cozy warm. The service was authenticly and genuinely Italian hospitality. They absolutely saw to our every need without being an intrusion to our get together. The wine was premium, and my dish was a chef's special linguini with Alaskan crab and jumbo shrimp. I cannot wait for the next opportunity to revisit this hide out of a gem restaurant.
Just had dinner at this restaurant and it was excellent! The food is delicious, the ambiance is great and the location is cool. You just cannot go wrong here. Also the owner Sal and his wife are very friendly. Highly recommend!
It was a little crammed the night we were there and it’s a tight squeeze, but the food is definitely worth it. The closest food I’ve had to real Italian since I was in Italy. Service was fast and our server was friendly, but not overwhelming. Great experience.
We love the variety of the pasta and the authentic recipes that are light and fresh and delicious. The new pizza parlor next to the restaurant is so great, just like in Italy! The ambiance is cozy, especially the outside patio with fireplace and heaters and covered Roman shade awnings. The owners are friendly and accommodating and the waiters are great and very Italian, and we enjoy "take out" food from either restaurant or pizzeria, when we are too busy too cook! Thanks for always taking care of us!
The menu is awesome but the off menu items are the bomb. Next door is their pizza/pasta fast/slow casual with a stone oven from Italy. Best Pizza and the calamari looked awesome @ next table....oh also full bar on both sides of the house...
What an absolutely beautiful restaurant! The Italian food was so good, I wanted more but I couldn't fit anymore in my stomach lol The food was real genuine quality Italian food, we came here for a family gathering and it was such a great magical time, the customer service was so good and I'll definitely be back many times again thank you so much for having a great space oh and don't forget the interior is designed really really nice
A semi-local Italian restaurant to the Newport Beach/Balboa Island/Newport Harbor folk. It was started by an Italian immigrant family maybe 50 years ago. It is a fairly nice restaurant, not as upscale as some but with business suit clients at most times along with NB vacationers. There is for sure some of the more longtime residents of NB here. The service and food are typically 5 star with prices often to match. Certainly worthy of special occasion outings.
Amazing. We have been coming to Sapori (& getting takeout here) for YEARS. Tonight I picked up dinner for my husband and I and we cannot stop talking about how good our meal is. I'm usually never as impressed with a restaurant when we get takeout. Best salmon I've had in years. My husband requested a special order of veal parmegiana and it was excellent. We both commented on how good the sauce was one each of our dishes. We even were notably impressed by how delicous our sides of vegetables were.
The food is superb, I had chicken scalops covered in prosciutto, all in marsala sauce with sides of asparagus and roasted potatoes. The service was execelent, the distance between tables is conforming to our 'new life' regulations and...the tiramisu paired with espresso do not have equal
Our family usually goes here for Italian food. It is tremendous. Typical Italian pizza, pasta, entree's, and desserts. I like their lobster ravioli, papparadelle, lasagna, calamari (must have), gnocchi, and tiramisu (must have). A disclaimer: if you are one of those low-salt people, ask for very low salt, as they tend to aggressively season their food. Friendly and attentive service, good drinks, well-kept, sanitary, and a very nice location. The prices might seem high, but are more than reasonable. Feel free to bring the family. What more could you ask?
We have enjoyed Sapori for many years. The food is always delicious, the service is wonderful, and we love their patio fireplace. It’s our favorite spot for a great meal in town.
This is a lovely place and everybody is so nice. I had the lamb ragu and it was delicious. The only negative was that the ziti was al dente and together it ate a little heavy for a woman. The veal saltimboca was very salty, but I don't think you can always control the saltiness from the purveyor. The sausage and polenta and special with shrimp / scallops were both good. I am going to go back and try something else from their wonderful menu. Worth more than one try.
We have been going there for years. Good quality of foods. Nice neighborhood restaurant!
Always a wonderful delicious place to eat. Great atmosphere especially dining on the patio. Very friendly servers and staff. Great ding experience.
Always a warm friendly place to enjoy a terrific meal. Management never overlooks the details. Highly recommended for the atmosphere and the prompt Professional Service.
Such a great place to sit and have a very nice Italian dinner. Great service, atmosphere, and food.
First time visiting Sapori. The food was amazing. Service was excellent, and the whole place had a great atmosphere. The staff all seemed to be enjoying their jobs, which made for a more enjoyable experience. The owner, Sal, stopped us on our way out to thank us and we had a great chat with him about Italy! Will definitely be back!
What an amazing dinner. Wow, loved our burrata appetizer and Chicken piccata . Sarah, at the bar served us and we asked her favorite. She has impeccable taste and was very up beat and attentive. Great place. Compliments to all
Great vibe. Came in fresh off a plane from Australia and we were close to closing but we were accommodated. And the food, even close to closing, was absolutely delicious. Top notch pizza and calamari
Pasto meraviglioso, assolutamente delizioso What an amazing meal Everything was prepared just the way we wanted. Paulo our waiter was fantastic. Salvador his assistant was super too. Can't wait to return. This is a special place.

We decided to treat ourselves to a fancy dinner for the holidays. We ended up at Sapori. Our server was attentive and kind. The overall aesthetic of the place is cozy and romantic. The dessert was to die for. The bistecca was also cooked to perfection. There is ample parking in a no-frills shopping center close to Balboa Island. It's a nice neighborhood. We would return again to sample more items from the menu. Check out these photos!!
Cosy Italian food restaurant in Newport Beach ticked away in upscale strip mall near Balboa Island. Pricey but good, and satisfying. Can bring your own wine for corkage fee, but call first. Otherwise, pretty decent wine selection. Can split salad and or appetizer and save room for yummy selection of dessert! Nice place. Reservations recommended, especially on weekends. Plenty of free parking.
Ordered salmon farfalle to go. It was delicious! Excellent with the bread, too!

Great food (we had pasta as well as pizza) and well mixed drinks!
Service and food way above average. Authentic Italian cuisine!
We had poor, slow service the night we were there. However, the food was excellent and we were able to have a conversation around a large table with little difficulty.
Feels like I was thrown into Italy for dinner: very authentic- great fresh pasta, great wine, not so warm service.
I ordered a sausage and pepper on fusilli with parmesan reggiano to go. The dish was prepared with small pieces of sausage that looked like they were purchased frozen for breakfast burritos at Taco Bell. The sauce was definitely not a cooked from raw tomatoes and herbs. It could have been from a jar purchased at Pavilions. The peppers were soggy. The parmesan reggiano, plastic-ware, and napkins must have been extra since they were not included. The fusilli was spaghetti. The bread was plain bread, not garlic bread. The butter and taste excluded. This was a plate of mediocre spaghetti for $19.98. I am certain this same stuff is available in a frozen food section in a grocery store for $8.95. When I arrived to collect my dinner, there weren’t any patrons and the wait staff was standing near the entrance waiting for the crowds. It was Friday night 6:00 P.M.
Great neighborhood restaurant Food is delicious, Service needs to be improved....
Always come here with my grandparents. Good food with a nice atmosphere. Can be a bit pricey.
If you want Italian restaurant opens late in New Port . Food needs more improvement
Beautiful setting, great Italian food, friendly waiter and service personal. Ate there twice over the weekend; once with a group of 15 family members traveling to Newport Beach for our son's wedding and the second time with my son and his new wife. Reason for not getting five stars is on Saturday night everyone received their meal except myself and after waiting several minutes my wife had to tell one of the waiters about it. On Monday night we were seated right next to the kitchen where it's a little noisier when other tables were open. Will definitely go back if in Newport Beach area again!
Food was astoundingly good. Service inexplicably poor. Bordered on surly. Manager acted like I'd requested a taco when I asked for some balsamic vinegar to go with the oil on the table. Waiter gave the distinct impression his shift had ended two hours earlier and he'd been forced to stay on, thus missing out on something really cool. And it was all our fault. Must be an explanation for this. They couldn't survive if they were always like this--although as good as the food was, maybe they could.
When here last night for dinner, the patio was just set up beautifully!being able to eat at a restaurant was a lovely treat, the restaurant was full obviously very popular. The wine was great, the food was good, the company was better!
I would have given a 5 to service but our somewhat snobby waiter was reaming out another worker ( busboy ) in Spanish within earshot. Just not appropriate 😔
I know this place is an institution but I wasn't impressed. The pizza was poorly cooked (Ie: toasted on the outside but doughy in the middle.) I also had the lasagna because I am a lasagna enthusiast and I also wasn't impressed. The noodles were way overdone (like a gelatin texture) and the flavor was basic. I also had a fun drink and the balance was pretty rough. Needless to say I wasn't a huge fan. For 60$ a person I expected something more impressive.
Very nice and romantic place, very nice food, very tasty
Charming restaurant. Outdoor seating available. A beautiful, garden like atmosphere. Dined here last night and it was very busy. Couldn't hear ourselves talk. Other times I have visited this was not the case. Service is good. Italian food combined with American. Salmon is very good, good size portions. They handle special requests with ease. You are never rushed. Reservations are advised. While children are welcome, it is more conducive to adult dining. Price is average for this kind of restaurant. Not outrageously expensive and not cheap. Good for date night, special occasions, birthdays, anniversaries, congratulations, thank yous, business meeting. Pleasant experience overall.
We really like their Pizza, Thin & cooked great. We come here few times a year, usually pretty consistent. They should really update their hours, It says they close at 10. We walked in at 9 they hesitated to sit us. We knew what we wanted ordered right away. Meatballs came lukewarm & pizza was amazing my main complaint is that we rushed so much to eat & get out we really didnt get to enjoy the food as much as we could have.

Very popular, however their pasta dishes I found to be lacking subtle flavors and textures that inspired Italian cooking is known for.
Amazing pizza, probably best in the area. But they closed an hour early and I was craving this after work :(. Beware of this and plan accordingly
Dined here during travel for work and was on my own. I was seated between the front door and restroom on a cold day. The cold air blew in every time someone opened the door, and when it was closed it smelled like I was seated IN the restroom. I was generally ignored by wait staff. Food was decent for the price.
In my opinion- the food was not bad... but in the opinion of everyone else I was with it was. The pesto is just how I like it- but my family disliked it. I thought the Alfredo was fine- but my sister wouldn't eat more than a few bites. She was disappointed and I was fine. Not a place for the picky.
Popped in for some dinner with friends over the weekend. This establishment is connected with Pizzeria Sapori, which was a little confusing to us. First impressions, definitely has a nice ambiance and atmosphere. We made reservations for Saturday night and got seated right away upon arriving. The service was very friendly and helpful. We opted for both the main menu and the pizza menu for the attached pizzeria. Once seated, we had fresh bread, oil and vinegar brought to our table. They have a great selection of wine, but the price per glass to bottle $$ was not worth snagging a bottle for the table. I thought the food was good, but nothing that clew my mind. I ordered the PENNE OTERO CHEF'S SIGNATURE DISH - which of course seemed like a no-brainer bring the chef's signature dish. I subbed the bacon for chicken to be a bit on the healthy side. The portion was generous, and the flavors were good - but it didn't have a pop of wow that would make it seem like I couldn't do this with some Prego and pasta at home. Overall, great service, nice ambiance, but the food was just okay for me.
Service was fantastic, sat at the bar. The restaurant was hopping. Food was ok. Nothing was salted, everything was bland, from the salad, to the burrata, to the pasta and the chicken. It made sense when we looked around that everyone had salt and pepper in front of them and they were salting every dish. Wish I could give the place a better rating, but Italian food should have flavor. This just didn’t.
My family and I enjoyed it, food was good some better than others pasta’s and steak was good, calamari and salmon was fishy. Atmosphere quite and cost casual
As an Italian restaurant in an upscale neighborhood there’s a high bar- I’ve lived in NYC, LA, Paris, Portofino, etc…there are plenty of options even in Costa Mesa- nothing stood out to me- they didn’t have burrata, and looked stunned when I asked about it. It’s good- not excellent. I never knew the restaurant existed and I grew up in the area. If you’re really into Italian food, you may be disappointed- if you’re going for the company and a good meal - enjoy!!!
We have had good food there and they have a beautiful patio with a fireplace. Unfortunately, our waiter couldn't be bothered giving two women the time of day. I believe that he was from Italy and maybe he has just been working too long as a waiter for too many years and he is tired of his job .

Vegetable soup pretty bland. And others dishes amongst the table pretty bland. Restaurant had no glazed balsamic vinegar for my carpese salad. Won’t be back
Average food, average service, $25 for spaghetti with garlic butter with 3 medium shrimps and 2 scallops. Will likely not come back.
Friends in Newport and Lido Island recommended Sapori as a popular locals spot for a casual dinner. We made an early reservation including out of town guests visiting for a family wedding. Travel issues occurred and two guests out of a party of twelve were unable to join us .The hostess was exceptionally rude, chastised us repeatedly and told us she could have used the table for another party. We offered to wait if the staff wanted to rearrange the table and remove a table for two from our combined seating arrangement. We were told it was too late, and it would have been nice if we could have let them know earlier. The restaurant at 5:45 was not crowded.. Our table was in a dark corner near the kitchen doors. As the hostess, I was embarrassed and offended. Our waiter was very cordial and professional, the dinners were fine, but I would never return.
Extremely noisy, we couldn’t hear each other speak. So not recommended for business meals or dates. No air conditioning, so we were sweating the whole time. Also my friend found 3 full cloves of garlic in her pasta. Otherwise, good wine selection and delicious deserts.
I'm done with this place. Went here for 2 years during the pandemic and over 20 times means nothing to the boomer hostess. Service was always subpar here. Waiters were looking at me like the Gestapo standing behind them would fire them if they tried to help so shrugged their shoulders "sorry." I get more accomodations at the food court. Zero respect or concern for my family of four. Instead of walking here I will drive out of my way now to a much better place in Foretti's CDM-best meatballs in the world. Shame on Sapori ownership.
This was by far the absolute worst meal I have ever had in my life. I was very excited to celebrate my birthday here and could not have been more disappointed. The service was atrocious and the food could barely pass as slop. Our server did not check on us once during the meal and our food was cold. The bolognese had definitely been sitting under a heat lamp before being served, the lasagna tasted like it was out of a chef Boyardee can, the chicken was rubbery, and the polenta was a joke. This ruined my birthday and I will certainly never return.
As a Dasher, I came to pick up an order for two customers, there was a Hispanic pizza preparer about 40 year old or acook in the kitchen that was very rude. He told me to wait for a minute before pickup the orders. I waited 10 minutes just for him to cook the pizzas for other customers. After 10 mins, he came to the freezer to get an item for my customer that only would take 20 seconds. And everyone know that DoorDash order comes first. I don’t know what about the quality of the restaurant but that guy should be fired or disciplined. Even there was a waitress there that agreed with him. Either they service Dasher correctly or take DoorDash customers off their bussiness, I would say.
The waiters, host were great. Very friendly but the food was not good. The veal looked and tasted weird, the spaghetti was under cooked the sauce had no taste and the meatballs tasted like dog food. Overpriced food when I would have happier McDonald’s
We were here last week for dinner, their listing shows that they close at 10pm on the website and google maps. When we walked in, the waiter rushed us into ordering all courses at once(which is unfair and we had no clue why).. you need to either let us know before making us sit at the table or correct the timings everywhere or the waiters need to give a heads-up or not let any customers walk-in past 8/8:15 and expect them to leave early by 9pm. People come into restaurants for a reason, you just cannot keep rushing. This place sits in a shopping strip plaza charging fine dining prices.. we were offered to go for the entrees after paying around $150 for 2 people just to come sit eat at home.
Horrible horrible people and business avoid at all costs!! My daughter and I tried to come here after her volleyball and we were dressed casual not messy or anything and we got there at 9 p.n and they closed at 10:00 p.m we said party of 2 and they took one look at us up and down and said they were closing early and would not seat us. We asked to order Togo and they said no! Then another couple came in behind us and we're seated!! They judged us by thinking how much money we have and how we were dressed which is absolutely absurd! Many way nicer places would be more than happy to have us and take our money. This place is cheat with horrible people! You all should be ashamed of yourselves!! Do better!!!
