Opinions de Kinfolx Oakland
Good cafe for work or study. Free wifi, bathrooms, and plenty of seating. I went on a Monday around 2:45 and it was pretty crowded. Around 4pm a lot of people had cleared out. My rating is based mostly on atmosphere/vibes because I didn’t get any food but I did enjoy the drink I got. I bought an iced matcha lavender latte with oat milk and it was very tasty but I wish I tasted more lavender- I feel like I barely tasted it at all. If noise and music bothers you, you may not want to go here. Even when it was more empty toward the end of the day, there was a man playing music outside quite loudly and while I’m not completely sure if he was affiliated with the business, I think he was so I’m guessing they have performers come play music often. It didn’t bother me but did pull at my attention sometimes.
I ordered the mocha, it has a great balance between chocolate and coffee, it's more on the chocolate side. Service was great. Loved the vibe, the walls, the drawings, it reflects the culture of the neighborhood, that's the beauty of Kinfolx. It's a great place to work with a laptop, there's a decent amount of outlets I would definitely be visiting again
Good vibes here. Pretty good chicken pesto sandwich too. I would recommend getting here early if you want a seat, as it's pretty busy every day.
There are places that simply feel right, and Kinfolx is one of them. It’s a thoughtful third space—calm, beautiful, and unforced—suited for focused work, meaningful conversation, or an easy first meeting. Kinfolx offers a sense of ease and belonging that feels true to Oakland. It’s the kind of place you’re glad exists.
Their is food delicious, I ordered their veggie breakfast sandwich without cheese and they accidentally gave me one with cheese. I asked if I could gift it to someone rather than let it be trashed and they allowed me. I got to give it to another Black woman :). They remade my sandwich quickly and it was tasty. 😋 The oat milk latte was standard and delicious and beautiful. The music had me bopping around and singing. I came in fully expecting to listen to my own music and realized there was no need to lol. The bathroom was clean and the toilet seat was warm. We need more spaces for Black people and this felt like such a safe and inviting space for us. :) I will be here again. ❤️🖤💚
I felt incredible joy as I sipped on a delicious oat latte (beans from Mother tongue!) and a flavorful chicken patty (made w/ vegan flaky shell) on a super comfortable chair. All of it contributed to a homey atmosphere. But the best part was watching all the folks in community at kinfolx. People played puzzles, some discussed books, and others worked on laptops. This is a beautiful third space and one I’ll be visiting frequently!
Stuck a cool spot across from the climbing gym great western. Definitely worth a visit, ample of seating, fairly crowded, but still lots of space.
As an Oakland native and techie, Kinfolx is a dream. A perfect place to connect, share ideas, enjoy a great breakfast and get a great cup of coffee or drink of your choice. I had never been before and I invited a fellow native who currently lives in Atlanta. She too felt the vibe. Keep it going!
Beautiful corner coffee shop in downtown Oakland. I loved it so much I came just about every morning during my 5 day visit. My only complaints: 1. warming breakfast pastries isn’t standard. I hate being handed cold pastries. 2. The heat shields do not fit over the small cups. 100% recommended.
Great space! I also had the ginger snap cookie and it was great.
Love this place to study! Their coffee and amazing as well as their matcha!! Had their vegan patty and it was DELICIOUS 😋 Their music is 🤌🏻 and their staff is so lovely 🥹
Five stars for the best, most balanced latte that I’ve had during my one month in the Bay Area, and I’ve been looking. 5 For the friendly helpful service. 5 for the relaxed vibe decor, music, people quietly talking together, lounge feel, as I read my book in the window. But let me tell you about the bidet… I’m little embarrassed about a pic of a toilet, but the seat rose up and the toilet cleaned itself as I entered. There is a whole control panel for how you want to be treated and there is even a seat warmer and heated water. It then cleans (?disinfects) itself and folds the spout away😜. 5 More stars for the added luxury.

Charming, tasteful third space: the decor is the best I've seen in the Bay Area so far, the vibe is adorable and friendly and the lattes are bomb.
An unexpected cafe gem, would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a place to chill and talk or work. It was quite busy when we arrived mid-noon, and the drinks are on the sweeter side, but the comfy decor (and clean, high-tech bathrooms) created a really nice ambience. They unfortunately ran out of the kinfolx latte, but would love to try it the next time I'm back!
Wow - what a hip cool spot to chill with great coffee/other drinks! Exactly the kind of coffee shop I’ve always dreamt of opening myself ;) They have fast free Wi-Fi, lots of comfy seating & nice airy space. It was about 230PM Sunday afternoon and we grabbed the last two seats! Barely 5 minutes walk from 19th St BART station & there’s even a Shake Shack across the street & other good eats nearby. Def stop by when you’re in Uptown Oakland!
Kinfolx is a great place for coffee. The staff is very friendly. I immediately feel welcomed and appreciated. The large space is bright with natural light. But the most beautiful thing is seeing all of the young people working and socializing. They host events too!! It's located in the Uptown area, steps away from BART any many bus lines. It's very important to support our Oakland businesses and Kinfolx is truly a great place. It's like a work space and a place for coming together in community. Im a senior citizen. In this place I have been treated as an elder, with appreciation love. It FEELS like creative space. I'm sure it's a place where great ideas are born!!
A nice cafe in downtown Oakland with ample seating options. They serve breakfast food (think egg sandwich and pastries) and your usual coffee offerings. In addition to tables and chairs (often taken up by people on laptops during the week) they also have some couches. It's a nice spot with good vibes. No parking but so close to Bart and bus options. Support a local business!
Good vibes. Good coffee. Kinfolx is a sweet cafe in downtown Oakland that's nice for your favorite cup of joe, meet up with a friend, work or just hang out. Love that it's Black-owned.
Good coffee, good food, and a great focus on the community- with plentiful seating and great ambiance. All around, a fantastic place to get some work done or socialize, with one other feature I've never encountered in other cafes or restaurants: a bathroom with a full BIDET. A truly unparalleled luxury. Spend your time and money here.
Kinfolx is the best community cafe in Oakland. Not because of what they sell, but because of what they offer. Going to Kinfolx both feels like a cozy cafe and chillin in your living room. There community programming is top tier, and better than anything else in Oakland. They are so community focused and driven, they are so intentional in creating a warm, inviting, and inclusive space. I do find the drinks to be a bit overpriced for what they are, and the food to be underrated (the veggie breakfast sandwich is delish) but I'm ok paying a premium to support a community, black-owned business trying to provide a living wage for staff and maintain a large, inviting public work and gathering space. Get here early because seats will fill up at what I like to call, #ClubKinfolx :)
This little was great. Recommended by someone completely new to town from Southern Cali. While small, this cheesy little cafe has ample seating. Tables, bar stools, lounge chairs, sofas, as well as benches and outside seating, they may the been offer free WiFi. The eats were great, tasteful, and interesting. If you like Caribbean food or a little bit of a kick to your empanadas, come try. I lived all the art and the inside colors that decorates the atmosphere. Everyone welcome, I've never seen such a diverse crowd inside of a cafe, like this, all at once. It's like a little chill spot to work, treat yourself, and be in a safe space. Go, check it out and enjoy. Staff was very pleasant! Great spot, we will return.

I am not a person of color, and this is hands down the coolest cafe in Oakland town. If you love Oakland like I do, then this is another reason why. I would describe it as a much bigger and wealthy Hasta Muerte cafe. Oh, I enjoyed the mirror at the entrance. Nice.

The physical space here is genuinely great—easily a 4.5/5 for the layout and the food/wine mix. Unfortunately, the service consistently misses the mark, offering blank stares and shrugs in a city where coffee culture usually comes with actual hospitality. The disconnect peaked on my last visit. After finishing a coffee, I placed my cup on the service counter and was shouted at by two employees to move it to a bus bin. In any other cafe, a barista would simply grab the cup; here, they chose to make a public scene to 'train' a customer rather than just be helpful. I make a conscious effort to support Black-owned businesses in Oakland, but the recurring hostility makes it impossible to justify returning. This place feels ripe for a self-service kiosk, because the current staff culture is actively insulating a great venue from the people trying to support it.
It was cold and raining so me and a friend went here to talk and have some coffee. I love the atmosphere, and the service was good, but my coffee was barely warm. I never complain about food or drinks because I’m terrified about retaliation, but if your chilled and want hot coffee you might not get it here

I’m giving this place 0 stars because they don’t accept cash. At least, the last time I passed through and I didn’t buy anything thankfully, I think they had a sign that said, “no cash.” Not everyone has a bank account “kinfolx,” but I feel like some of the people who own that place know that, and just don’t care. Black people can be capitalists too, unfortunately. This isn’t the Starbucks that used to exist near the 12th street Bart station. At least back in 2018, it was a cool place where unhoused people could hang out. So places in Oakland change, just like everywhere else, but they definitely lack culture and soul.
