Opinions de Seoul Gom Tang Oakland
Wang galbi tang. Great homemade broth as pork flavor can be tasted while the meat itself was tender, soft and chewy. Noodles were chewy while the mushrooms was fresh. The date in it was an interesting addition but was still tasty. Soup came out bubbling so that's a good sign to start drooling since it's chilly and warm soup speaks to the the heart.
We came here on Saturday 2:40 pm for very late lunch and the place wasn’t crowded. We had a parking spot on the back right away. Bulgogi that my son ordered was delicious and it’s pretty big portion for a person. I ordered gom tang which the restaurant was famous for but I found it less flavorful than how I remembered from the last time I visited 3-4 years ago. Based on what other people are ordering next to our table, the steamed dumplings are the popular dish here. Dumplings will take some time to make and steamed to be served, a patron ordered another dish to start her meal then get dumplings. Unlike some other Korean restaurants, only 3 different kimchi are served here. the large chunks radish (daikon) kimchi are the popular side (Kkakdugi) and I ended up finishing 2 small plates. A lady who served me was so attentive and very sweet. She offered more sides and checked on us often with water & barley tea. This place is almost opposite of fancy for a restaurant and maybe I’m partially drawn to the fact that they focus on the food but less of ambience of a restaurant. I will recommend bulgogi & dumplings for folks who’s trying this place especially for the people who may not familiar with Korean food.
Went here for dinner on a weekend and was greeted with a delicious array of food. As the restaurant name suggested, had to try the signature Seolleongtang (ox bone soup) and was not disappointment. Flavor was complex but very light. Soup was super hot and burned my tongue on my first few spoon fulls. Ordered some Bulgogi as well to satisfy any additional meat cravings. Overall prices were a bit on the high side but still on the realm of reasonable. Enough parking in the back on a private lot. Service was quick and friendly.
Homey. Great service. Banchan all crunchy and given right away. I had rice cake bone broth and a delish seafood pancake. They have many healing soups. Im embarrassed i usually go get bbq and not tried these healing soups sooner. There are single folks and families alike! Love this place and cant wait to come back!
I moved to Oakland from NYC last year and I’ve been looking for a Korean restaurant that gave me all the feelings of home. Seoul Gomtang is everything I could’ve asked for and more. The menu focuses on home style cooked Korean dishes that are not readily available at other restaurants where typically they cater to those searching for BBQ. Service was wonderful and the taste of the food immaculate. I’ll definitely be going back. I am very glad to have happened upon this gem of a restaurant. 감사합니다 🩵
This restaurant is amazing! The food was spectacular, and far more better than all of the other Korean restaurants I have tried before. The flavor of the bulgogi was absolutely delicious. It was tender, sweet, and juicy. The waitress was super kind, and let us stay for extra time to finish our meal. Service was quick, and the prices of the meals were worth it. I definitely recommend you going to this small business because it is super underrated and super amazing. Thank you Seoul Gom Tang for making our experience amazingly delicious! 👏👍
This is one of my favorite restaurants in Oakland. The soup is on par with what you will find in Koreatown in LA, which is hard to come by in the Bay Area, unfortunately. The vibes of the restaurant are exactly what you'd hope to eat some delicious gomtang at, homey, no-frills, but clean. The people who work here really love their craft and are very nice. I recommend dining in because I don't think this stuff does well as takeout. Don't expect an amazing sit-down experience, do expect some of the best broths you've ever had in your life. Their seafood pancake is also great! P.S. most of the bone broth dishes are not salted by default. You have to add salt yourself. This is normal!!
I got the "Wanggalbitang" because I read that the broth here is very delicious and that this dish included soft, tender meat... and it's true!! I don't think I could have ordered a more heart-warming and tasty broth. Yes you have to add your own salt here, but even without that, this broth is special. If you feel like noodles, long mushrooms, and some bits of congealed things too (maybe it's cartilage?), this dish is the one.
LOVE their food and services. Its traditional/ classic korean food. My relatives (make traditional korean food) and friends also like this place. Especially there is a parking lot! There are good hangover fix and yummy dishes. Menu is simple but their specialized items (SOUP) is worth the $ and drive.
I eat here pretty much every week at lunch. Menu is same all day. I don’t have to mention more about the food here because it’s better than anything else in Oakland, and better than other general Korean restaurants that do Korean BBQ because this place specialize in beef bone broth (gomtang) soup. They’re consistent and comparable to LA and Korea.
If you want authentic Korean soup pot this place kills all the rest of Korean restaurants that I have been to. Their beef soups what ever kind is spot on. Ox tail, ox knee, short ribs or intestines is so right. Even the chicken gensing is really good. I wish they have galbi but I didn't see it on the menu. I only tried the bulgogi which is good too and the seafood pancakes is really really good.
Best Korean soup I found so far. The mixed beef broth with the knee and intestines and all that good stuff was amazing, and the seafood sundubu tasted like real seafood, and lots of it. And no MSG coma like most other Korean places! Served by very nice motherly ladies.
Loved this place! The green onion and seafood pancakes were so good, the Kimchi dumplings and the staff was very skilled. The food came out very quickly and they even helped us made a couple decisions when we were hella indecisive. The atmosphere was also very good, very well priced. Will go again and will bring friends too!
The beef soup is excellent! It’s not salted, so our baby enjoys quite a bit as well!
One of the best gom tang places I've been to. Huge portions, and lots of meat. The blood sausages are really tasty here as well as the seafood pancake. Even the yukgaejang was really good, meat is soft and soup is flavorful, not salty or chewy like most places. Side dishes are authentic and compliment things well. They have their own parking lot.
They have a very authentic Korean menu. I highly recommend the beef soondubu soup as well as the kimchi spam bimbimbop. They really know how to cook. The place is clean and well ventilated and presentation great.
This place is legit! I got the chadol gomtang which had thinly sliced brisket in it. There was a lot of meat for me, enough for a second meal. Salt and add scallions yourself, which is how the authentic places do it and it’s important to me because I like my soup very lightly salted. It comes with generous amounts of 3 kinds of kimchi. Got a seafood pancake for the table and it was great too.
The soups in this eatery are the bomb - we had seolleongtang (oxtail soup) and kalbitang (rib soup with mung bean noodles), both of which were nourishingly delicious. I had them with rice and it was just the perfect meal for a chilly day. I liked it so much that I returned the next week - we had extra yukkejang, which was spicy and tasty and also the crispy and flavourful seafood pajeon.
+ Extremely authentic and low profile. Feels like a family style restaurant and we saw lots of native Korean families there. + The soup is one of the best in the Bay Area. Rich and organic flavor. We ordered beef soup with tendon and tendons are so tender and soft that it almost melt in the mouth. + Large portions. + Owners are super friendly
I have been coming to Seoul Gom Tang for more than three years. It is a family-run restaurant owned by a Korean family, and that sense of family is visible throughout the space. There is a hanbok hanging on the wall, which I believe may have belonged to the owners’ daughter when she was young. Every family member is attentive and welcoming. In the evenings, the father often sits in his SUV in the parking lot right outside the restaurant, wearing something that is visibly similar to a security uniform and keeping a flashlight on, trying his best to make customers feel safe. The atmosphere is cozy and comforting. As for the food, my favorites are the Beef Soondubu (soft tofu and beef soup) and the Haemul Pajeon (seafood pancake). The soup is consistently smooth, the tofu retains its natural flavor, and the pancake is generously topped with seafood. The food here is not “Instagram-friendly” in a trendy sense; it is traditional, which I personally prefer. One additional note: there are two restaurants in the Bay Area named Seoul Gom Tang. The owners’ daughter confirmed that the one in Santa Clara is owned by a different owner.
Dolganitang soup was absolutely amazing! I loved the fresh kimchi—three kinds, all fantastic. The price point is great for the excellent quality, and the super warm service is such a bonus. Definitely my new go-to spot!
Specializing in Korean soups, milky bone broth is their namesake and forte. Mul Naengmyun, buckwheat noodles served in ice cold beef broth with sliced radish, cucumber and pear make for a refreshing meal. Make sure to add in vinegar and mustard to taste. For hot-cold combo, order with some Kalbi (marinated and grilled short ribs) — a practice popularized in LA Koreatown, now widespread. For sharing, Gamjajeongol (감자탕전골) comes as a bubbling savory pork neck and potato stew, spiced with chili, black sesame and chives. Yum!
Legendary OG spot with great authentic vibes and convenient location/parking. I go for their soups and my favorite is their gamjatang but their pork bulgogi is also the best I’ve ever had and none of their dishes have ever missed. Support a local family owned business dispensing delicious dishes!
My family had an amazing Father’s Day meal at Seoul GomTang! We had many of their appetizers, soups, and noodle dishes. The food was amazing as usual - we were really happy with all of it. The portions were plentiful and the service was impeccable as well. If you’re not sure what to order, I would look on the walls or ask the very nice server for advice. The owners know their food very well and try their best to help you out! Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone curious about Korean food. Must try!
Best Korean food in the neighborhood! Their signature soups & hot pots are SO filling, warming, & delicious. Highly recommend the Yuggaejang & Gamjajeongol, but everything I’ve gotten there has been amazing & their kimchi is the best. If you’re ever feeling under the weather, the Samgyetang will heal you right up!
Great little hole in the wall, friendly fast service! Safe parking as well if that is a concern. You get the full experience, with korean news TV and korean posters. I definitely will be back to try other dishes as well!
chicken stew was incredible!! chicken was incredibly flavorful and the carrot was probably the best carrot i had in my life. can’t remember it’s official name but it’s the far right column in the special section, the chicken stew.

Yuggaejang and dolsot bibimbab were so good. The side dishes are all perfectly done!

Seoul Gomtang is a homey restaurant with really good soups made with bone broth simmered for a long time like mom's home cooking. Delicious cucumber kimchi.
I've come here for the better part of 25 years now and the food is always on point. Hot, delicious and authentic. What more can you ask for??

The restaurant has a spacious setting, and the food is decent with generous portion sizes. However, it's a bit pricey compared to other nearby options.
This is a great home in the wall restaurant that is family owned. There is a mix of halmeoni and haraboji and non-koreans. We ordered the Ox Tail Soup - KKORIGOMTANG (꼬리곰탕) and it was good, just slightly under seasoned, but there is salt to flavor at taste. The Seafood Panacke - HAEMULPAJEON (해물파전) is very tasty and crispy. The Chicken Bulgogi was my least favorite dish, just underwhelming IMHO. Great restaurant overall.
Two words: seafood pancake. This place nails the seafood pancake - it’s thin, crispy, not too oily, large, and yes; loaded with seafood! The soups here are nourishing on a cold day. We got the ox knee soup which tbh was a bit bland, it’s only got ox knee in it. But the rice cake soup was delish.

Food: 3/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 4/5 Portion to Price: 1/5 Overall: A bit expensive for the portion size. The extended review... Food: Galbi Jjim - 3/5 - Taste was pretty standard fare in comparison to others I've had. Service: 3/5 - Standard service. Ambiance: 3/5 - A nice indoor spot although we grabbed our order to go. Portion to Price: 1/5 - Given the portion size and price I won't be coming back for this dish. Maybe for something else possibly.

We liked the soup a lot, but dumplings were stale and the server lady with glasses misconstrued the ingredients in the dumplings. She said the dumplings had beef and kimchi and it turned out to be diced tofu sort of with very little beef incorporated, and refused to send the dumplings back to the kitchen. She also didn't list out the ingredients in the soup, and we felt very threatened by her attitude. Felt like she took advantage of us being younger girls and kind of got angry at us when we said we didn't like the dumplings. We still paid $20 for 5 dumplings we never ate and feared the food safety of. Tasted like dog food tbh. Kimchi Soup was good, though. Just kinda sucks that the server is the type of Korean lady who only seems to care about saving face in front of the white people, but if it's Asian customers, she can treat them however. Hopefully they can hire another waiter in the future. Will be reporting to the FHS departments.
I'm not sure if this is a restaurant or just a cover for something else, ..money laundry mat most likely,
Good Lord. Their prices have doubled. I just picked up one small take-out order of oxtail soup, for one person. It was $34.00!!! (incl. tax) Absolutely appalling. My parents used to come here for years. No longer. What a shame.
