I wish there was a better platform to express my gratitude and appreciation for this venue and their incredible staff. Seriously, I stopped in randomly with a small group of my restaurant-industry coworkers to unwind after *yet another* insane day at our shop; while our group certainly was not the best behaved, we were treated with the upmost respect by the DS staff — who were clearly doing their best to maintain the smoothest possible operation under the current circumstances (the technology is especially impressive — put our own online ordering system to shame!) Follow the rules, listen to the staff and you’ll have a great time — hopefully the next time we’re there our team will all be on the same page...

Great service and delicious drinks at Double Standard. The location is legendary so I dare you to ask about its history. Batrenders and the owner are real. Only bar in downtown Oakland with a huge tree thats lit. Chill vibes and diverse crowd. One of my favorite hangout spots in Oakland. Double Standard is a must visit local or visiting. My guy D and security will definitely take care of you.

Currently they have the bar decorated for the holidays and it is so beautiful! They have holiday themed drinks as well with a holiday menu. There is a nice outdoor patio with lots of seating.

It's not my closest bar. It's not the cheapest bar. But it has a short but well curated tap list, an inexpensive combo (can of beer and a shot), a slightly more expensive "Gentleman's Combo" (tap beer and shot of Fernet), and, of course, the best patio I'm this part of Oakland.

Came here a few weeks ago with some friends, Jay was the bartender working. Super nice and genuine guy very knowledgeable about spirits and a great conversationalist. Thanks Jay!

Great pricing, tasty drinks, good service and wonderful decor. The back patio was particularly nice juxtaposed to the super loud kinda sport bar indoor area. There's a good amount of seating. I got one of the hot toddy drinks, it was good. Large selection of beer too.

LOVE this backyard! So hard to find patios in SF so I head back to my favorite Oakland stomping grounds. It's like hanging out in an amazing yard with trees and benches and cool people. Talk to the people sitting next to you, you'll likely become best friends. Cocktails here are nice too, although pricey if you're a fast drinker so beer on tap is a safe bet. Great bar!

Their lovely Coast redwoods are the Christmas trees! Eggnog, brandy drinks, hot buttered rum, antique Victorian sounding drinks in specialty holiday glassware. All delicious.

Very large bar, went on a Sunday and it wasn't very busy, but probably more people would go on Fri/Sat.

I thought this would be a dime a dozen dive bar type spot, but thankfully I was wrong. It was pretty poppin for a Monday evening, but not enough to where it was overwhelming. The trees are fantastic, and the cocktails were actually good! We even got a nifty NA cocktail as a nightcap. I'll be coming back next time I'm in the area.

Wasn't a fan of the food which was served from a nearby restaurant, but I went there primarily for drinks and I can't wait to go back!

This bar has such genuinely beautiful energy pulsing through the place. My colleagues and I went last Friday to bid farewell to a lovely colleague of ours. It was a sad occasion to say the least but the staff and the thoughtful energy coupled with wonderful beverages really made for an outstanding evening. It was like a family reunion in your aunt's backyard under giant redwoods. Just a beautiful slice of paradise. I'll be back again soon to experience that beautiful energy again. The huge trees in the backyard seating area is a talking point. All of the staff were friendly. Reasonably priced drinks. The bar is well managed - they have express lanes for beer and wine and for closing the tab. Good vibe and decor too.

There is a Hidden Gem at the backside of this bar. There are redwood trees in the middle of the patio! You would never know it existed unless you actually walk through the bar. They have cocktails on tap which means you can quickly get refills at the bar without having to wait for them to make them. And they're pretty good too.

So cute but no heat and the door is kept always open - a real design flaw on a chilly winter night. Seems like the perfect place for a warm night. 5 stars for summer, 3 for December thru February- because I love to take my coat off indoors and be cozy.

This bar is always a good time! The crowd/environment is always very fun and exciting. The drink are delicious and staff are friendly. The biggest drawback that they have is the bathroom situation. The females in the (LONG) line for the bathroom were told by staff that the next woman coming out of the “Mens” bathroom would be kicked out. We’re in the Bay Area of CA, we should be past the gender inequality portrayed by the bathroom segregation. The “womens” only has 2 stalls and the “mens” has a short line, yet we, women, aren’t allowed to utilize. Ridiculous

This is a cool bar that you wouldn't see just driving past, unless you actually knew where to look. The drinks all have lil "innuendo" names, but very tasty! I highly recommend the "Side Piece," although it comes in a relatively small glass, it packs quite a punch!

I've been here a few times. Great spot if you're meeting up friends or if you want to drink on your own... I ordered a witch drink which includes vodka. The service was good. Chill environment.

This is our closest bar and it’s awesome! Love the vibes and love the back patio. It gets pretty crowded though during peak times so that sucks. I also wish there were heaters in the back patio so that it is more usable during the colder months.

Wonderful back garden. Decent drinks. The lady bae Tender in the afternoon is a little too self-assured but her male replacement (sorry, i didn't get their names) know how to make good cocktails. Who would have thought that you could sit in a quiet place under mature redwood trees in the middle of Oakland. Also, i like the concept of a bar with BYO food.

Since moving to Oakland in May, this place has become our go-to for cocktails. We've only been during the day but it has a nice large patio with dogs allowed and the cocktails themselves taste like a upscale cocktail bar, without the hefty price. We'll be back many more times!

Really good drinks, and its a great space. The service needs improvement though. This one guy at the end of the bar spilled his drink and no one came to help clean it up for about 20 minutes. It took me about 15 minutes to get my first drink. It wasn't even that crowded.

Apparently they’ve been open for 5 months and haven’t figured out how to allow patrons in with bicycles. In a city both known for cycling and bike theft. I wasn’t going to leave my custom build expensive bike out of sight. Lots of other establishments make this accommodation. I’m from the UK and just moved here and was going to have a few beers from this place as recommended by a friend. Well I won’t return or pay it forward. Also, I had a lock—just wasn’t going to risk it. Even Drakes recognises this is a concern as there racks are out of sight for courtyard patrons and make accommodations. Honestly less hassle to go drink in SF.

So o just got to this place and I order my self a drink... old fashioned! I give the guy a $100 and on return he gives me $78 I ask the guy $22 for a old fashioned? Obviously he knows I'm not drunk! And gives me my change back. Shame on bartenders that try to take your $$ away. Always be aware and drink only enough! #Nohonestlyanyplace!
