Ubicado en el segundo piso de un edificio histórico, posee una vista agradable desde sus ventanas hacia la catedral de Nuestra señora del Carmen. De trato amable y ameno por parte de su personal de origen zapoteco y ataviado con el tradicional huipil que te muestra, y explica si lo solicitas, su menú que consta de platillos tradicionales de la cocina oaxaqueña y otros platillos de autor inspirados en la misma como la crema de chapulines o la pechuga escapulario (rellena de hormigas chicatanas). Las sopas te las llevan borboteando aún en los tazones de barro, con tortillas de maiz hechas a mano. El plato fuerte anuncia su llegada desde antes de tocar la mesa con su apetecible aroma y su encantadora vista hará que le des la primer cucharada de inmediato. El sabor único y exquisito de los platillos mezcla de tradición e innovación es increíble, además de que todo se hace al momento. Los precios son bastante justos, incluso un poco abajo del promedio. Ampliamente recomendable.

Los mejores moles y sopas están con Teté venir a comer con ella es la mejor experiencia gastronómica sin duda 🫶🏼

Había leído comentarios que la espera era larga sin embargo en mi visita había poca gente. Consideró que los tiempos son de acuerdo a que los platillos son elaborados al momento y sin duda vale la pena la espera. El mole negro riquísimo y la sopa de guías otro nivel. Los sueros una delicia y no duden en probar la nieve de mezcal, no encontrarán otro sabor igual.

La comida es DELICIOSA! se siente el sabor de hogar, te recuerda tus raíces, se prepara con ingredientes locales, la comida se hace al momento. Definitivamente un manjar.

Me lo recomendó un amigo de aquí de la ciudad y la verdad superó mis expectativas. Si estás buscando comida realmente Oaxaqueña El Escapulario es el lugar perfecto! Excelente atención en una ubicación inmejorable y de la comida ni qué decir! De lo más rico y de lo más auténticamente Oaxaqueño que he encontrado.Y obvio, para el desempanze un rico mezcalito!

Que delicia sus moles. Una caricia para el paladar. Nada picoso, plátillos de buen tamaño, la atención de quién sabe todo los ingredientes a detalle y ataviada con su traje típico le da un toque aún más auténtico. Disfrutamos mucho el lugar aunque sencillo lleno de mucho sabor.

Teté es la dueña y una chef y persona maravillosa. Yo conozco este restaurante hace unos 15 años y siempre ha sido una delicia. He comido pollo a la chcatana, sopa de huitlacoche, mole negro y mezcal. Delicioso, un grumete casero y el lugar bello. Saludos Teté!

Comida súper rica y elaborada al momento. El platillo de degustación de moles, gran recomendación, incluso duró para 4 personas (que igual pedimos caldos).

La comida increíble. El servicio estupendo. Pendientes de nuestras órdenes y que no pidiéramos más de la cuenta. Un grupo internacional y terminamos yendo 2 veces. Extremadamente recomendable.

Esther es una chef increíble que cocina con pasión y tradición. Sus moles y todos los platos salen buenísimos. Comí acá 3 noches seguidas para ir probando mas del menú. Si buscas comida de Oaxaca, este es tu lugar.

Wow! We were going to another restaurant, but tried this instead. It was very VERY good, good-sized portions, reasonably priced. This is more of a locals place than touristy. We loved it and will return. Be sure to try the mole amarillo with chicken!!!

An incredible local eatery in the heart of Oaxaca city just near the main square where you can sample Oaxacan delicacies in a cosy, homely setting. This feels very traditional - not like the other fine dining fusion restaurants we were recommended (which are also great, but feel more tailored to a tourist clientele or an Instagrammable dining experience). We had tlayuda, huitlacoche quesidilla, grasshopper tacos and chicken with mole rojo. Everything was superb. You can also do a mole tasting if you want to try a few. In the corner of the dining room there is a window looking out over the square - it feels like peeking onto a movie set. It’s also very reasonably priced. Highly recommend this place.

Absolutely loved our meal here! One of the best in Oaxaca and that's even comparing it to much fancier places with more accolades. Food tasted home made and the ambiance is casual, so the food took a while to come out, but worth it if you have time! Loved the Sopa de Conde and Mole Negro!

Went here to try manchamental and chichilo (both very hard to find), and it was incredible! The chichilo was duely somber, hearty, and mostly simple in flavor, with only very subtle complexity, and the vegitables and dough pieces complimented the tone of the dish brilliantly - enjoyable but not so pleasurable as to be inappropriate for a mourning family. The manchamantel was very lively, fruity, rich, bright, fun, and fairly spicy for a mole. And again, the other items in the dish complimented the mole brilliantly. The manchamantel is now my favorite of the 8 moles of Oaxaca, and the Chichilo is my significant other's favorite. The food was absolutely amazing, but do bear in mind, you will likely be waiting a while for your food. In my opinion though, it is well worth the wait! The decor is also fairly plain.

A quiet and sweet restaurant with some of the best moles I’ve ever had. The mole testing menu is a must try! My favorites were Coloradito, negro and rojo. The crema de chipolines is amazing. I loved the champurrado, the drink that I got which is a mix of corn and chocolate.

The restaurant is a modest setting like being in someone’s home for dinner, very cozy and we were lucky enough to sit by the window getting a great view. The staff were very friendly and very patient with us while we spoke broken Spanish. (Thank you!!) Finally, the food!! It was so good! One of the most authentic restaurants in Oaxaca! It’s so good that even locals were expecting us to have eaten there when we spoke with them! The menu even included traditional items like Chicatanus, which is seasonal (June-July) but a little tricker to find (at least it was for us) for those more adventurous!

What a feeling to be home, far away from home. India to Mexico, with broken Spanish speaking like a parrot, ordered all sharing our intentions and emotions, they were so well understood, accepted us with arms wide open. And had us taste such delicious traditional food. Mole negro puerco, Quesadilla and chile entrada of ormigaas. Muiii dricooo! Michaladas are spicy and really yum.

Extremely good moles! Ordered the 5 sampler. Look at other reviews for types. Best traditional mole I’ve had yet! Big recommendation to come here. The combo also comes with drinks which is nice. It’s quite pricy though - see my menu photo. The 5 mole combo with rice and 2 beverages is 650MX. Worth it though!

A truly authentic experience, and probably the best mole I've tried in Oaxaca, after ~100 restaurants. The mole negro is fantastic, but I urge you to try the estofado verde - it's a green mole based on olives and capers. Incredible dish, and one that most gringos don't ever hear about. The doña in charge of this place knows what meat should be in a certain mole better than you do - and she will not be shy in telling you that you should get a different meat for a specific sauce. This is a true Oaxacan restaurant, and if you appreciate good, authentic food, you will enjoy it greatly.

Excellent food, some of the best mole you'll ever have. This was the only restaurant we went to twice during our 2 week stay in Oaxaca. We made sure to visit again on our last day. The chef uses special local ingredients that help create a truly unique experience that everyone should have when visiting Oaxaca. Also my father in law is a vegetarian and they easily accommodated him. Our first visit was flawless, our second visit was less flawless just based on how pricey the mole sampler is (other reviewers have mentioned the same complaint, I should have listened!). Yes the mole is amazing but almost $40 US for mole and a small bowl of rice and veggies is steep. It does come with a lot of beer/mezcal, but that only helps dull the pain of the bill. Just stay away from that dish and you'll love this place. I'd visit again and just order other delicious dishes.

What a delightful gem this restaurant is. We chose it based upon the reviews and it exceeded our expectations. My husband had the mushroom mole, which was incredible and made him happy to find a vegetarian option! I had the chicken mole, which had beautiful flavors and the right amount of heat. The tortillas were delicious and the lemonade was freshly made! The ambiance is quaint and this was my favorite meal so far in Oaxaca.

Wonderful restaurant lovely views. Everything taste fresh and just plain likable. The hot chocolate came out quite hot which is not often how it is served in Oaxaca. We ordered the simple Tlayudas that was lite with no meat. I will be back to eat other good on the menu.

A small place with excelent expertise in mole. Many to choose from and many to experience. Some of their moles needed a little seasoning adjustment because they lack the punch to the face as I expected it. Maybe that was a fearure of home made moles. I'll be back for more mole education.

La parrillada Oaxaqueña estuvo más o menos. El tasajo medio correoso y el chorizo bastante malo de sabor (se les olvidó freírlo?), y las tortillas las trajeron frías. Además el baño estaba bastante sucio.

Tried to go for dinner. They told us they were full. They told us to come back the next day around 2pm as a table wouldn't be a problem at that time.. We arrived shortly after 2pm the next day and they said come back in an hour. Then they never opened for lunch. Had to find another that offered the 7 mole sampler. Thankfully we found one.
