I really liked the place for several reasons: the location is very easy to find and well-lit; it's not a problem to get there. The Oaxacan-style decor made me feel like I was in Oaxaca. The singer is very versatile and has excellent music. The food is reasonably priced and good quality. If you have a birthday or something to celebrate, it's a fun and festive experience, with a true Oaxacan flair. I enjoyed it and will definitely return.

Today I would like to highly recommend this restaurant, "La Reyna Oaxaca," located on Av. Canal de Tezontle, Central de Abasto 3, Iztapalapa, Zip Code 09040 Mexico City, near the corner of Canal de Churubusco, for its flavor, service, ambiance, parking, facilities (super clean bathrooms), and price. I was pleasantly surprised. I ordered the Caldo de Guías, an ancestral recipe made with pumpkins, squash blossoms, corn pieces, chepil leaves, piojito grass with chochoyones (small dough balls), accompanied by a bravo chili sauce. A delight, warm for these rainy days. My husband ordered the Zapotec soup, strips of fried tortilla in a broth with a touch of holy leaf and avocado leaf, served with crispy fried mulato chili, fresh cheese, avocado, pork rinds, and a delicious ranch cream, accompanied by fresh lemon and cucumber water. For my second course, I ordered a Coloradodito with fried chicken, leg, and thigh, served with a couple of enchiladas. It was a delicious dish. My husband ordered guacamole with grasshoppers and tortilla chips, also delicious (the guacamole has a different but delicious touch, the perfect combination for the grasshoppers). I ordered a delicious "Mi Mezcal" to accompany my Coloradodito. Finally, my husband ordered a homemade Imperial Flan, which was truly "Supreme." We've tried it in many places, and this one took the cake. Try it and see for yourself. I ordered a "Mepuchi" cappuccino, made with mezcal, and I was very happy because I liked it and it was simply spectacular. Thank you for the flavor, Monse's service, which was very good and attentive, to the kitchen staff for their seasoning and food preparation, to the beverage area, and to everyone. Thank you. From now on, this is and will always be one of my favorite places, not only for lunch but also for breakfast. Congratulations ♥️ If I'm taking a few minutes for this review it's because you deserve it...
We went to celebrate my mom's birthday. I made a reservation that morning and inquired about the birthday celebration. They were very helpful via WhatsApp and answered all our questions. When we arrived, our table was already ready, and the hostess let us know that our waiter was aware of the surprise for my mom. The waiter's service was excellent. As more people arrived, the service was a little slow, but nothing that detracted from the overall experience. The dishes arrived at different times. The portions were generous, and the food tasted good. There was live music, which added to the experience. The atmosphere was family-friendly and festive. Parking costs $40 and is valet. I recommend it for a family meal, a birthday celebration, or simply enjoying a pleasant atmosphere. The staff, in general, is very friendly.
It was worth giving them a second chance. This time the food was fabulous, the mezcal top-notch, and the dessert... I'd been here a few years ago and honestly, I didn't like it much back then. I came back and was very pleasantly surprised. I ordered "wise children" soup and Carmen rice. Don't worry, you won't find it like that on the menu. What the restaurant offers is rice with mole and fried plantains. I add a fried egg and turn it into a main course. With the typical Oaxacan mole, it was spectacularly delicious. Since I was celebrating, I ordered the house mezcal, delicious with its orange frosted with worm salt. There was barely any room left for dessert: water chocolate with a couple of slices of egg-bread that I enjoyed dipping at will. All at a very fair price considering the quality of the products. It's a danger because I won't want to leave. Oh, I forgot my bean tamale, which has a play area for children and beautiful traditional decor.
A place with a wide variety of menu options. Several traditional Oaxacan dishes and other Mexican specialties, including some steaks. The flavors are interesting and definitely taste different. Not exactly ancestral, but made with high-quality, artisanal ingredients. The service is very friendly and good, however, it's a bit slow, so be patient. It's also worth noting that it's a spacious place with several tables, and even a children's play area on the first floor. Prices vary but tend to be on the higher side. It's worth it if you want to try things like basic tlayudas or tlayudas with meat (and generous portions), mole negro, tejate, and other Oaxacan options.
I had the opportunity to have breakfast at La Reyna de Oaxaca again. I'm not sure whether to deduct a star, since they're now charging double for parking and leaving cars on the street. I asked them what happens if my car gets hit there, and they replied that they have insurance, which is fine, but the inconvenience of being without a car for at least a month while it's repaired, not to mention it being a total loss, is unacceptable. They should simply say they're full and not mislead customers about parking. I recommend they be more careful with this, as the customer is always the one who suffers. The restaurant itself is one of the best I've been to. Thank you for your service. Date of this comment: July 15, 2025. Good place for breakfast. Parking costs double after 10:00 AM. A variety of dishes with authentic Oaxacan flavors and seasoning. Very good and personalized service. Fast, reasonable prices, live music, and a pleasant atmosphere for conversation. Highly recommended.
Beware of the "breakfast packages"—they actually charge for everything separately, even if you arrive before 1 p.m. and even if you ask the waiter. The food tastes good, but it takes a long time to arrive. They have parking for an extra $40. They have a play area, which is thankfully free.
The food was delicious, the service was just okay, but the noise was extremely annoying. They tried to recreate the Guelaguetza festival, but the volume of the music and noisemakers was unbearable; you couldn't even have a conversation. I told the manager, and she said that was the whole point, recreating the Guelaguetza, but the big problem is that the Guelaguetza is usually held in open spaces, and this was an enclosed space. I won't be going back because of the excessive noise.
¿Entonces qué me iban a dar si pedía unas “picaditas”?
The atmosphere is pleasant because of the singer, but the customer service is terrible. They take too long to serve us. I don't know if it was the waitress or something, but she made terrible faces at us... Then we told her we wanted tortillas, and she told us the machine wasn't working. It took them a while to give us a tlayuda, and my family was already halfway through their meals. Plus, the tlayuda was freezing cold, and so was the soup. I definitely wouldn't go back even if it was the only restaurant in the neighborhood. The tlayuda was very ordinary.
