Opinions de Yume Japanese Burger Cafe Ojai
Very cool interior. Delicious food. Biked to ojai with my friends from Ventura and feasted here. Waygu burgers are the bomb. Same with chicken sandwich and the octopus balls(they’ve got a different Japanese name on the menu). And Uwe brownie yummm. Also great value for food. Will visit again for sure!
A Japanese burger dream 🍔 🇯🇵 I’d been craving karaage for weeks, and after spotting Yume’s menu months ago, I couldn’t wait to try it. It did not disappoint. If you love burgers or Japanese fast food, this place is for you. The patty was buttery smooth, the chicken perfectly crispy, and the sauce had just the right tang—everything just worked. The regular fries felt out of place, but the okonomi fries instantly took me back to my time in Osaka. The ambience? On point. With vintage Japanese posters covering the walls, this spot made me miss Japan a little less.
Went sightseeing in downtown Ojai and couldn’t resist trying Yume Japanese Burger Cafe! The Wagyu beef definitely lives up to the hype - it was delicious in both the burger and in the loaded fries. If you like traditional Thai Iced Tea, order the “very sweet” version (Yume offers is 3 ways). Service was great, and the outdoor patio is picturesque plus offered plenty protection from the heavy drizzle that was coming down at the time. 10/10 plan on going again.
Everything we had was absolutely amazing. One of the staff (maybe the owner) was super nice to my dog and gave him a treat. We ordered inside and sat outside on the large patio. Pet friendly. Don't skip this place if you’re in Ojai. I recommend the spicy miso chicken sandwich and the wagyu cheese fries. 10/10. Great vibes and great food.
Super tasty food! We had the classic waygu burger and the spicy miso chicken sandwich both were top notch. They gave us free fries too! Definitely want to come back here and try their various loaded fries dishes. Good beer selection too.
This random find on a stroll in Ojai is now one of my new favorite places to grab a bite to eat. The food was delicious and the service was fantastic. The owner was very kind and we enjoyed the atmosphere. There were so many delightful choices on the menu. We will definitely be back again!
Visited Ojai to see what this place is all about and I was very impressed with the quality and flavor of their Spicy Chicken Karaage Sandwich, Ube waffle, and BBQ Wagyu Loaded Fries. They have a very small and cozy indoor seating area but their beautiful patio has plenty more seating. This place is definitely an Ojai hidden gem. Final verdict: 10/10 would definitely come again!!
So good! Only $16 bucks.for a Japanese burger with Wagyu Beef? Yes please! Owner is super nice. Came out to the back patio to chat with us and check up on us a couple times. Everything was great.
Absolutely LOVE Yume Burger! Our group of three tried three different ones plus red garlic fries, and they were all delicious! Great selection of drinks too, alcoholic and non alcoholic, including boba. The owner is also so welcoming and kind! Will definitely be back soon to try the rest of the menu!
This is a must have place when stopping in Ojai. The burgers, the bowls, the booze. You can't beat the atmosphere, the food, or the drinks. You can catch the sunshine on the back patio or sunset on the front porch. Views of the mountains out the back porch too. Must have some Japanese food when in Ojai. My favorite drink is the Kubota sake, but you must ask them to heat it up for the best tasting experience.
In this economy… you can’t really beat the $13.99 Wagyu Burger Meal deal! You get a burger, some fries and a can of coke or Diet Coke. Id recommend getting the onions grilled in order for them to fuse better with the cheese and wagyu patty. I got my stuff to go but wouldn’t mind eating inside if I had to.
Came to this place for the first time! Ordered classic burger and Ojai burger! Omg it was so juciy and tasty! Love their atmosphere, pet friendly, and the staff were very welcoming and nice! Highly recommended 👌

I tried shaved ice that tasted almost like bingsu. (Mango and strawberry) nice one. They have the back area to sit. The interior is Japanese anime fun. I didn’t tried the burger but I think it might be good. Young vibe.
Found this place last weekend and have been dreaming of it ever since! I had to stop in for lunch today as I was passing through Ojai. I’ve only tried the classic burger with cheese and avocado but plan on trying more of the menu in the very near future. Staff is always friendly and kind. I love their back patio eating area. Their inside ordering/table space has the best AC for those hot days.

Walking past the tiny shop but the pictures in the shop looked appetizing. Friendly service and helpful recommendation. Enjoyed the Topa Topa Chicken Sandwich.

Loved the burgers and wagyu fries. Everything was seasoned deliciously and the fries were delicious as was the meat in both the burgers and fries. Love the art work, especially in the bathroom (Studio Ghibli themed). Will definitely come back again.

I’ve had this place bookmarked for some time now, but it was always busy when I tried to dine here. I finally managed to catch them on a day where it was less busy. Yay! There’s not much to this restaurant ambience wise. It’s pretty small inside, with a couple booths in the front with window views. There’s more seating located in the back, as well as a restroom. For food, I ordered their Ojai Wagyu cheeseburger. It comes with fries too. Their Wagyu beef is marinated for 24 hours before serving it. Making this burger a melt in your mouth experience! Unfortunately, after my first bite, it fell apart. No matter how much I tried putting the meat back inside the bun; it just kept falling apart. I had to use my fingers to scoop up the meat and finish eating. Messy good though! I would have preferred that my burger stay in tact to enjoy it more, but nonetheless it was a very flavorful juicy burger. The fries were thin, lightly salted and fried. Nothing much to them, but they were decent. Overall, I’m glad I could finally try this place. I would love to come back to try their chicken sandwich and a few other items on the menu.
Burger and fries were great. They have a 3 year anniversary special currently (as of a February 2025) to get free fries with select burgers (you can upscale the fries and pay like $1 or $2), so that makes it worth it, but without the deal the prices would be high at about $18ish for the burger. Everything tasted amazing and the service was great. Nice aesthetic Japanese-style cafe and craft burgers

I saw the place on google and it seemed unique compared to others and the only "Japanese" burgers in the area. I ordered the Ojai burger which was their recommended pick for me as a first timer. It came with a side of fries and I also ordered a boba thai tea. The burger was okay......smaller than I expected. The waygu patty was very tender, soft, & juicy. Flavor of patty was okay. Also had some mushrooms & pan fried onions? And some sauces. One of the sauces were kewpie i believe? The hamburger buns could be better(small/low quality. The fries that came with it were just normal fries but they do have some japanese inspired fries you can order. Overall it was okay....its basically a japanese burger place thats americanized. Not sure if I would go again. If I do, I'll definitely order something else. 5/10 meal. But I do like the backseating area and the wall of anime posters.

I ordered the Signature Yume Burger, the Grilled Chicken Salad, and the Peach Mango Smoothie. Since the hamburger originated in the U.S., eating one here naturally feels different in terms of taste, portion size, and presentation. American burgers are overwhelmingly better in flavor, but the Yume Burger, with its teriyaki sauce, was still enjoyable. That said, it’s more of a “try-once” experience, and I don’t see a reason to go back for a Japanese-style burger again. Prices are on the expensive side.
Beware of the service charge, they slap 12% onto every order as an automatic tip, even on take out. They were hesitant to remove it when I asked. Got the double chicken sandwich and it was alright but I wouldn’t order it again. I would recommend the single if I were to order again.
Yume is unique in Ojai Valley. It is a genuine Japanese owned joint serving burgers and other comfort food with a Japanese twist. The owner was super friendly and we generally had a good experience. However, I must say that it didn't live up to the hype. Everything is supposedly "wagyu" beef, and perhaps it is. However, I though wagyu was supposed to be tender and soft. Unfortunately, the wagyu beef on the rice bowls were as tough as rubber and were cooked bland. The restaurant definitely uses the okonomiyaki sauce healthily in many dishes and that may be the saving grace. However, it was not enough to make up for the general blandness of all the ingredients. The usage of brioche in their burger buns was a genius move, but easily replicable in other burger joints. It is quite amazing how authentic Yume ran their operations and menu, especially staying truthful to the Japanese heritage. But somewhere in the translation of culture and cuisine, the true soul of Japanese street / western-style comfort food has been lost. I hope the chef takes a bit more attitude and character towards the cooking and leans heavier into differentiating with their Japanese roots. The sauce can't make up for everything else.

I had a really disappointing experience at Yume this weekend. For two people, we spent $71 on two wagyu burgers, two wagyu beef fries, and two canned Cokes, which is wildly overpriced for what we received. The fries were fine, not terrible, but nothing special. The burgers, however, were a letdown. They were large and looked promising, but completely flavorless. There was some kind of gravy on them that added a gelatinous texture with zero flavor, which honestly made it worse. The meat itself was falling apart and just not enjoyable overall. What really pushed this experience over the edge was the 12% service fee that was added without being mentioned anywhere. I only noticed because I wasn’t initially given a receipt. When I went back to ask for one after seeing the total, I saw the fee buried at the bottom and then they still ask for an additional tip on top of that. That’s not okay. If you’re charging premium prices, at least deliver premium food and be transparent about fees. Pay your employees a livable wage instead of price gouging customers for mediocre burgers. Won’t be coming back.

TERRIBLE FOOD, TOTAL SCAM. It is nothing like the photos or online menu. DO NOT TRUST THE ONLINE MENU. If you’re feeling in the mood for a funky burger, just go to in ‘n out instead. It is literally worse than any fast food burger you can get. It seems like they changed ownership and it became a shell of the former restaurant. It’s a total ghost kitchen. We had to leave after the first bite of food because we could make this food better at home easily. THE WORST. 0/10 BAD!
