Opinions de Wabisabi Soba & Sushi Paia
We came here twice during our short stay in Maui! It’s a truly lovely spot to have an intimate dinner. The space itself is beautifully curated and calm. We enjoyed everything we tried (especially the buckwheat tea crème brûlée dessert). The service is also super charming and we enjoyed sitting at the sushi bar. I appreciated how attentive they were to my dietary restrictions.
A hidden gem in Paia. The soba and sushi are delicious, perfect on a humid, warm day. The Daikon Soba and Hamachi were divine. Highly recommend and will be going back!!
Such a beautiful setting, unusual and very pleasant. Sushi is amazing! So noodles as well. We’re so happy we found this place. We will be back for sure. We tried the eggplant and monk fish liver and they were both amazing.
Amazing flavor and great atmosphere. I've introduced my friends to this place and we all agree, we'll be back! This space is peaceful and charming, and the food is about as close as we've found to real, authentic flavors we enjoyed in Japan. If you're looking for a place to go that will wow you and your friends unexpectedly, definitely don't miss this hidden gem on Maui.
The atmosphere is amazing! Beautiful decor with outdoor seating but that added to the ambience. The broth & dipping sauce had great depth and the flavors worked well together. The presentation was also great.
Super vibey, they had set it up very cute! Nice tables and prompt service. We got the Aburi Shimesaba which was new for us, and very good! My wife enjoyed the Kakuni soup and the noodles were es expected - DELICIOUS! Also didn't know Soba was a complete protein, added bonus. The sushi rolls were good, but I did find it odd for the price that we only got a half roll (6 pieces). I think price-wise a full roll is to be expected, but everything seemed handmade and tasted clean and yummy. Water was always full, super nice server, and the mochi was the best I've had
Incredible atmosphere. I felt like in Japan. The crew was super warm, felt like more personalized service. Soba noodles made my night. After this meal I feel matcha better!
My last meal on mauai, and I really enjoyed the laid back garden atmosphere and service! The food was good. I paid $60 for a spicy tuna roll and a bowl of pho style soup with braised beef. It seemed a little pricey compared to other restaurants, but I also understand it’s Hawaii, and I did order the most expensive thing on the menu. It didn’t blow my mind, or fill my belly but I did leave happy and satisfied.
An absolutely beautiful outdoor restaurant that takes you to Japan. The service and food are amazing. The restaurant opened only a few months ago but definitely is a must visit place if you love high quality soba and sushi. They offer aged nigiri and offer a selection of rolls, sashimi and nigiri plus hot and cold soba dishes. The dashi broth is full bodied, rich in flavour but not overly salty. Everything is perfectly balanced. Service is friendly and fast. The soba texture is perfect and is the best fresh made soba I've ever had.
Excellent lunch, great service! Cold soba is perfect for this climate & it is a homemade noodle!! A wonderful garden seating area awaits you and feels so relaxing after trying to drive in Maui & cross the street 😅
Amazing buckwheat Noodle soups. Had the Kitsune Fried Tofu and it was really good. Definitely great when you want something warm and comforting. Apparently this place opened up in the last couple of days so we didn't see it when we were doing our research, but we are sure glad we dropped by. It's a pretty cool little restaurant hidden away. Highly recommend dropping by and giving this gem a try.
This is a true gem of a find. Every dish I ordered I loved, and came back for twice. Loved the outdoor cozy authenticity, so much character and comfort. Many dishes can be made vegan, including the hot soba (Kitsune) which melts in your mouth, to the miso eggplant. The tofu salad had an amazing subtle dressing, with small crisps that brought it together. Highly recommend. Lemonade was also very good. This place is in my favorites of all time, across multiple countries.
A Sweet Lil Zen outdoor space in the heart of Paia. We Enjoyed two bowls of different Soba noodles and they were both fresh and tasty. The servers were a brother and sister who were very charming and thoughtful, especially when we asked them to turn down the Beatles music playing in the background. I hope this little family run business thrives!
I can have their soba everyday!! It’s a very calming and beautiful space. My auntie and I had a warm soba with Kamo, the duck. The meat was so tender and flavorful. We finished our lunch with a Soba Cream Brûlée. So good!! Wabisabi is a must try while you are on Maui!!
Soba was true, high quality and pure buckwheat which is hard to find. Service was great and the atmosphere even better! Highly recommend for a casual bowl of noodles and/or sushi
The moment my wife and I entered we were transported to a mesmerizing secret garden in Japan, with a sacred tree, windchimes and rain catchers, and indescribable serenity. But the authenticity of this Japanese gem didn't stop there. The soba, black cod, and sashimi were out of this world, and the lemonade and sobacha were spot on. The presentation was so nostalgic, and everything was so relaxing we didn't want to leave. This easily became our favorite Japanese restaurant in the US.
Came here for lunch and was pleasantly surprised! The atmosphere of the restaurant was so beautiful and peaceful. I had the tofu salad soba noodles and it was delicious and refreshing on such a hot day. Will definitely be back!
Beautiful little Japanese garden in the middle of Maui island 🏝️. Great place to have traditional soba with daikon oroshi and wasabi !! So simple and delicious 😋!! Everything was Amazing !! Thank you 🙏
If you are craving authentic, homemade Japanese soba, I highly recommend this place. They make jyuwari, which is 100% buckwheat, rather than mixing in flour and other additives. It makes the soba more pricey, but worth it. The temaki was also delicious! And no, soba is not Japanese spaghetti.
This place is an absolute gem in Paia. Phenomenal fresh sashimi and nigiri as well as several cold and hot soba noodle dishes.
Beautiful and authentic experience for a soba place. The 10 piece omakase sushi was totally worth it and probably underpriced for the quality and flavor. You will enjoy every bite. Don’t spend too much time deciding between the difference soba choices. The basic sauce and noodle are the same. Can’t go wrong with any of them.
My favorite meal in Maui!!! Food was so good, the patio has a dreamy atmosphere, and service was excellent. A perfect experience in every way. One thing to think about - the soba doesn’t make a meal so you’ll want to plan on having probably one starter and one hand roll per person :)
We had a relaxed (serene) meal in the quiet outdoor dining area. All the food was delicate and well prepared. It’s good for the experienced sushi/soba lover who isn’t there for quantity.
Absolutely sweet atmosphere. The style is very close to Japanese style. The food was so delicious.
Our whole family had the most amazing meal here today. The atmosphere was wonderful and the food and service was top notch!
The Soba was delicious!!! The sushi was delicious with large pieces of fish. The atmosphere was nice with a very nice appearance. The tofu salad was also a must if you are eating here. This is definitely a hidden gem worth checking out!!
Food was delicious, we got sushi and soba. Service was excellent and the restaurant has some of the coolest most authentic Japanese décor I've seen. Prices aren't bad either especially compared to other sushi places on the island. Would probably recommend getting a reservation just because its a small place.
The best food and people. I love Japanese foods and have tried a lot of Japanese restaurants. And this restaurant was amazing ever.
We were recommended this place by a spear fishing guide and it was Amazing. Our server was so nice and charismatic. We had a party of 5 and ordered a variety of things. Black Cod was the highlight. The Nigiri and Maki Rolls were fresh and fantastic. And the soba noodles were also great. The atmosphere was intimate and authentic to Japan but was all outside in Hawaii fashion.
If you are near Paia you should come here. We started with the tofu salad and it was like nothing I've had before. I had the pork belly hot udon and it was fantastic. The broth was the star, so much flavor. The noodles were great. My wife had the chefs sashimi (salmon, tuna, and yellow tail, and added tuna belly. She said the fish was very fresh and the tuna belly was amazing. The restaurant itself is beautiful. All the details are done well. It is outside but completely covered. During our dinner it was breezy and cool. If you like Japanese food at all, you won't be sorry.
The place’s atmosphere is an experience itself! Everything was really good, and especially the eggplant, it was phenomenal, best eggplant I’ve ever had!
I’ve eaten sushi from NYC to LA and this place is among the best. Very sweet owners too. Get the fatty tuna nigiri :)
My wife is a soba connoisseur. This is mainly because she is very picky about her food. She loved the soba noodles, and I did too - though I am not a connoisseur. It's obvious from the bite of the noodles that it's made with 100% buckwheat. I especially enjoyed the black cod, and the crunch of the toasted buckwheat on the spicy tuna rolls. The lighting, decor, ambience, and crockery were all clearly thoughtfully selected. Service was also very warm. Soba, good people, and great ambience. What's not to like!
Beautiful atmosphere. Stop here for some sushi you won’t be disappointed. Fresh. Very pleased with the service.
Tucked away on the corner of Pāʻia, Wabisabi is a cozy spot to stop for lunch or dinner for anyone heading to or from Hāna along the Road to Hāna. Parking along the main street, we walked in and were seated immediately; only a few other parties were eating or came in during our meal. The hot soba was delicious and well-made, and while the maki rolls may have missed a few points on presentation, the portion size and proportion of fish in each roll is excellent for the price (and may be the best bang-for-buck sushi on Maui). A meal will run you around $20-25 pre-tip, which - once you get used to typical sit-down restaurant prices on the island - you will find very reasonable. I would wholeheartedly recommend stopping here for one of your meals as you drive up or back the Hāna Highway.
We were so delighted to find this absolute gem! Amazing fish and Soba and gluten-free friendly :) BYOB so, pick up sake on the way ❤️
Great, authentic food. Best meal I’ve had in a while. Simple, yet wonderfully executed soba with dipping sauce and a mochi and ice cream.
We feasted on a variety menu items! The Hot Soba with braised beef was spectacular we ordered like 5 of them! Then we ordered sushi which was a delight! The atmosphere is also wonderful. Highly recommend.
Simple but wonderful. Great food. Wonderful decor from Japan. Friendly service. Inexpensive. Healthy. We could eat here every day!
Super cute, cozy, and unique restaurant located on Maui island. We didn’t know what to expect but were pleasantly surprised with how wonderful it was. Simple menu, yet quality ingredients. We ordered cold soba noodles, 3 different types of sushi rolls, and the eggplant. We thoroughly enjoyed all the dishes we picked. Bonus: the mochi dessert was amazing!! Service was lovely - our server was attentive, patient, and provided great recommendations from their menu. Highly recommend and would absolutely go back again.
I wish their business is booming, specially for these inflation time. But their price is overpriced compared to quality. I am not saying their dishes are bad, but it is not a fine dining. They are more like dishes made by young mother in Japan. Their interior decorations are very good, made me feel a piece of Japan. However, I wish they smile more for customers, and not giving me a roofless table when drizzled. They said there are only bar table is available, and it was fine with me. I wish this restaurant blooms more in near future with better restaurant business skills.
Talk about a literal “hole in the wall” restaurant! Very limited seating but very very cozy. Food was good. No complaints from the group. The desserts where tasty too. I would come here again to try other things or to have a cozy dinner. There isn’t a “roof” so maybe not on a rainy day. Definitely bring your date here for a memorable experience! But put on bug spray before hand.
Overall experience was great but unfortunately it’s wayyyy over priced for a soba noodle dishes. I understand the price range of all restaurants in the area and the effort that they put in the decor but for a meal that cost 140$us for a family of 4, and we were all still hungry including my kids that are 8 and 10 years old, once we got out of the restaurant. For the price I paid, I would like to be full and not still be hungry. We had 4 soba meal with a side of 4 nigiri. Maybe add more noodles and sauce would have been good in the cold option. In my opinion as Japanese restaurant owner back home, they would need to bring they’re price a bit down to attract more people especially it’s newly opened recently. I wish all the best for a great success since the food was good! Mahalo
This place has a very noce atmosphere and I was very excited to go there but in the end got very disappointed. The service was very slow, with a lot of wait within one plate and the other and the person who was taking order was also preparing the sushi and taking cash from people. The portion were small and the price absolutely exaggerated for the amount of food they give you. The only reasonable portion I got was the sashimi maybe. There is no choice for sushi, only sashimi and you can take only the mixed place or the temaki. No rolls no nigiri, if someone goes for sushi here will get disappointed. I have looked at the picture of other people and saw much more stuff of the one I have seen on the menu once there. Once out we were more hungry than when we got there. In picture miso eggplant, even here I was expecting something more… I would not recommend this place
Drove all the way up to Paia with high expectations. While the ambiance gets a 10/10 …the food, especially the sashimi was lacking. Sashimi was not fresh. The presentation of the soba was good but the flavour was very average. Definitely overpriced for what you are getting.
Seems to be a small family run business, which is admirable. Cute garden atmosphere. However, the person serving us did not want us there and was extremely rude - to the point that we wanted to walk out, but had invited someone to join us so we stayed. The fresh sushi was ok and the dessert was good. The noodle dishes (one with duck) were not edible at all. I can't recommend this place.
Very good food. The atmosphere was excellent and this is the best resturant I've ever been to. The traditional Japanese appeal helped me acclimate to the splendid cuisine offered. I especially enjoyed the articulatly prepared Soba Noodles. I highly recommend this fine establishment.
This store is just well decorated. I ordered sashimi the server only bring the sashimi no plate no anything i was wait here until noodle is coming the server didn't bring the plate and no any service super bad feeling if you travel here
I rarely waste my time leaving reviews positive or negative, but after my experience tonight, I felt compelled to reach out in the hopes the owner might see this. We ordered sushi, mostly some avocado rolls, and waited over an hour for 5 avocado rolls and 3 fish rolls. That was only part of the issue. When the rolls came they were brown and I couldn't even tell they were avocado. Why the resraurat would serve rotten avocados after 1 hour and simply not have the integrity and decency to say 'I am so sorry but our avocados went bad and we cannot serve them' is beyond me. But what is worse, they put soy sauce on top to try and sneak or mask the flavor and appearance. So they clearly knew they were serving us rotten avocados and wanted them to pass for good ones. We ate a few of them, but sort of fell for it because the sauce was masking it, but ultimately we realized what we were eating was rotten, opened them all up, and couldn't eat them all because it was so gross, and felt horrible that we ate rotten food by someone tricking us. When I approached our waiter, she offered to take 1 of the 5 rotten rolls.off the menu. Thats what prompted me to speak to a manager. To the managers credit when I politely confronted her, she agreed with me and immediately took the 5 rolls off our bill and we left, still disgusted by what had happened. What sat with me was that the manager knew what she was serving, the sushi chef knew what he was serving and the waitress as well. And that says an enormous ammount of the lack of integrity. I dont care about a meal being slow or food not being the best. I get it. But when a restaurant knowingly serves bad food, it begs the question, 'what else are they doing and not telling us'. We go out to eat but a basic part of that contract is trust...trust that the people serving us food are honest and care and would not knowingly serve rotten food. This was done with full knowledge and intention. I sincerely hope that someone who owns this reads this message and actually cares.
Came here on Friday for dinner. Staff were really rude, the son? maybe, was very disrespectful when taking our order, walking away when we were asking to confirm some points on our order, he couldn't actually say anything to us after the mom? told him to take our order. He just came over and stood at us, then we gave our order and he walked away without saying anything. Hard to articulate someones face, body language and demeanor online - but this wasn't good service, we felt awkward being there after this. The noodles were then average, they were very short almost like they were cut to an inch long for some reason - the son was in the kitchen after taking our order, not sure if they were cut. Or, being it was nearer the end of the night they just use the cut ends. The noodle dishes had barely any meat in it, got the Kakuni and the Kamo. The pork in the Kakuni was really good, but just a 1"x1" cube is not enough. The duck slices were undercooked, I know slightly pink is standard but these were far too red. Got 2x sushi rolls as well - these were good, small rolls however. After spending $120 w/ tip, felt like it was a rip. the setting is very nicely done.
