Opinions de Gyu-Kaku Pasadena
This place was good food and a great experience. We had never done Japanese BBQ before and we really enjoyed it.
Great food selection. Too many foods to choose from in my opinion but if you like opinions you will be at home. Lol Our waitress was very informative and quick.
Brought a family member here who's never been to this type of BBQ restaurant before. We got seated fairly quickly and the food came out pretty timely as well. The service was prompt and on point. Nice spot here in Pasadena, the only downside is parking but luckily there is a parking structure nearby.
Came in right at opening and food was very fun and grill worked well. Definitely a good place if you are wanting closer to 40-60 minute meal rather than a quick bite if you are going for the grilling option.
Had met some friends for a quick bite at the Downtown location and thought it was pretty good. Definitely good enough to give it a solid try for a full meal. Went for diner with 4 people total. We decided to go for their 4 person package diner which included several appetizers, sides ,meats and a desert. We opted to add a few items simply because everything on the menu looked delicious. Definitely for than enough food for everyone. A steady stream of items, each better than the last. Service was fantastic as well. Everyone had a great meal and a fun night out. Already planning on the next visit.
We had the absolute best time at the Gyu Kaku Pasadena. Food and service were on point, Emily was our server, and she truly gave us a 5-star service, would definitely recommend!
We had to wait a bit for a table, but it wasn't so bad because they let us sit at the bar while waiting. Awesome staff made us feel real welcomed. After we sat down we were able to order right away; got our drinks, and shortly after some appetizers. Honestly when very smoothly. All the servers were awesome. The managers were the best!
Great food- good selection of uncooked meats to choose from . Staff is great as well as the manager/ super nice person. I tell everyone about this place- my family loves to this place.
Food was amazing but the experience was enhanced by Georgia my server. Excellent customer service and great recommendations. I will be returning
Soo yummy! One of our favorite date night spots! The food is incredible, the atmosphere is great and the price is reasonable! 10/10
Meats were marinated to perfection. So flavorful that we didn't need the sauces.
Amazing place, I will definitely be bringing all my friends here. Initially I thought ~80$ for food and drinks was steep for 2 but I can say it was worth it. Great quality food. The 75$ combo for two is a great deal. Huge selection of dishes. soup, salad, fried chicken, desert, and like 6 dishes of meat. Came out feeling like I had just had AYCE. servers were busy but always made time to refill drinks and make sure everything was going good. Only complaint I have is the meat sushi dish. Really not good and I'll be asking to sub it out for something else next time. Still a 5/5 experience.
Delicious! The tables are a decent size considering how many plates you can end up ordering. I’ve only ever gotten the all you can eat option. Good cuts and tasty seasoning/marinades. Seniors and kids get a discount. Kids under 6 eat free! Score! There’s some metered street parking, otherwise there are nearby parking garages.
Although this is a chain, it is much better than alternative barbecue spots. A great selection of meats and side dishes.
Came here on a weekday for dinner. I did make a reservation on OpenTable just in case it was busy but that day wasn't at all busy and we were seated right away. there is free parking for 90 mins on the structure across the street. there's some street parking but very hard to come by. Food wise we got the Meat Lovers BBQ course. The menu says it's good for 2 people but it was easily enough for 3 people. The set was great from starters to the bbq items and of course the smores. My favorite among the meats was probably the Premium Sirloin very tasty and tender. Other items were also very delicious. They have a cooking guide on the menu on how long the meats have to be cooked. The smores at the end was a nice touch, I haven't toasted marshmallows in a while. Service here is good they do regularly check on you and they change the grill as needed. Would definitely go back here and try the all you can eat!
The staff here is UNBELIEVABLE! I brought my family here twice last week. After the first time we couldn’t resist coming back 🤣. Our servers were Jonathan and Georgia. Each night they were so on top of everything. The manager Quentin came by our table to grab dirty dishes . He was so pleasant! He asked if we were a rewards member, which we weren’t. He then showed us how to download the app and sign up to get the points. It took 2min. It’s rare to find a place where the food is good and the staff actually want you to enjoy yourself!
This is my favorite neighborhood spot. I come here often and it never disappoints. I always get great service from the staff and it surprises me when people are grumpy and leave negative reviews. Management is always working hard all over the restaurant and the food is great! My friends and I come here for a good time and to eat like kings. Their latest menu with the meat mountain was a great value!!
Great experience! The meat was excellent, the sides too. All best quality, the portions were huge and the price small. Highly recommended for a different dinner experience with friends.
Great service they are very attentive and the food was fantastic and the music was even good
Stepping into Gyu-Kaku for our Thanksgiving lunch felt like entering a realm of culinary delight and hospitality. The moment we walked in, we were not merely welcomed but embraced with traditional Japanese courtesy, setting the stage for an extraordinary dining experience. The staff's acknowledgment of our arrival in Japanese epitomized their commitment to honoring cultural nuances. This yakiniku haven transcends the ordinary by catering not only to meat enthusiasts but also to vegans and vegetarians with an array of delectable choices. The outstanding quality of their cuisine paired with the staff's remarkable knowledge and impeccable service truly elevated our meal. The interactive in-table roasters allowed us to savor various meats, seafood, vegetables, and desserts, a feast that left us thoroughly content. The menu, abundant with diverse dishes and inclusive discounts, including exclusive offerings for students, amplifies the restaurant's appeal. Opting for the meat eater specials and garlic noodles was a decision we relished; the noodles, served in a hot stone, presented an explosion of flavors that tantalized our taste buds. And no indulgence is complete without dessert, where Gyu-Kaku shone brightly with its creamy and delightful green tea ice cream and marshmallows. While parking posed a slight challenge during the holiday rush, the nearby Raymond parking garage offered a convenient solution. Despite this, the value of the set prices remains impressive, and the current holiday magic set meat menu for two at $80 is a steal. Seize the opportunity and indulge in a lavish feast during this festive season. Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in Pasadena delivers an exceptional dining affair that is not to be missed.
More than enough meat! Great service. Fun experience.
The best japanese bbq I have ever had with high quality meat! We thought of ordering couse meal for two people for $75 but after taking a look at the menu, all you can eat option with $50 per person is the best option if you wanna try all kinds of meat options + the deserts!! The green tea ice cream and s’mores are reallllly good!
We had a wonderful dinner thanks to manager Quinton! He was kind and very helpful with answering our questions and gave us a great dining experience!
It was my first time at Gyu kaku. I had a great time! My date and I ate so much food and it was a great deal for the AYCE. The restaurant was clean and my waitress was great!
Happy hour 7 days a week! Great place and great prices. I've been coming here for a couple of years. The service is good. Make sure to listen to the servers recommendations on minutes needed to cook your food. This is a Japanese grill where you are the chef on some items. I love their ramen soups (even when it's a 100 degrees outside). Give this place a try and it will most likely get on your list of frequent places to dine.
Joana & the other manager who worked tonight were so kind! Food is great and the staff is very nice :)
PROPS TO FOH STAFF! Busy Friday before Valentine’s Day’s and the place was so packed that front of the house staff were forced to help in the kitchen. Special acknowledgment to Joanna and the servers for being so attentive even though the staff was short. A+
Our server was named Alyssa. She was so good and catered to our every need. When you go there ask for her and sit at her area but everybody else was helpful too. Great management better than the last time we went.
Me and my family really enjoy the service and quality of food at this Restaurant!! The food is excellent and the atmosphere is great. Prices are very economical as well. Make a reservation and enjoy.
We had a WONDERFUL Valentine’s Day! The restaurant was very backed up, but the team handled it so well. Extra shoutout to the manager, Quinten, he suggested some great appetizers, kept the evening fun (despite the chaos) and made the night very special.
We went tonight (new years eve) Georgia’s service was great! They were busy but Georgia was still very attentive the best service I’ve ever had at a resturaunt on New Year’s Eve. Food is amazing tasty and filling.
The lunch menu is the best around town. Love coming here on my lunch break. 15 bucks for 2 meats, soup salad and rice. The lunch all you can eat is cheap as well. Lunch stops at 5.
I don't normally leave reviews but my friends and I had so much fun tonight here! We ate a lot and got a beer tower. Great vibe and amazing atmosphere. Glad I boxed up my leftovers from the course we ordered.
Stopped here for lunch. Hot stone dolsot bibimbap (spicy beef) we so good, and under $15 for th lunch portion including 25% tip for the server who was extremely fast and professional! 10/10 would recommend
The food and vibes were amazing but the service from Kevin was outstanding. Had wonderful recommendations based on our food choices, so kind, genuinely made my day so much better by concluding it with this meal. The Meat Lovers for 2 is a well priced wonderful meal!
Service was friendly. Atmosphere fun. Food fantastic!! 3 different levels ($, $$, $$$) of all you can eat between $45-80 per person. Please your tastebuds with options of beef, pork, chicken, seafood or veggies. Marinated yumminess cooked to your own liking because you cook it! The green tea ice cream was delicious!! We left beyond full asking for a doggie bag…which they DO NOT provide. Thankfully I had my own ziplock bag with me.
Every time I eat here, it feels like I'm in heaven. I salivate just thinking about coming back. Being able to grill your own meat while enjoying it with friends and a cold beer is priceless. Though, I never leave until I feel like my jeans buttons are about to pop. It's definitely a must every time I fly to California.
First time at this restaurant, the host staff was very kind, and my server was honest and helpful with menu questions. The quality of the meat was very good! We got the dinner combo for 2 (they also have ALYCE but this combo was plenty for us). Next time I would pick a different combo. The bibimbap was just okay, I would prefer plain rice, and the fondue was American cheese (maybe Velveeta lol), nothing special. Overall, I would come back because of the quality of meat, AND they have happy hour prices + staff is all around attentive .
Food is super tasty , different options, also vegetables are available. Service is great they are very attentive. There are different specials, like lunch special ... The area is very nice located parallel street to Colorado street where you can visit different shops and walk around after you eat 🙂
I’ve been going to Gyu-Kaku for 9 years now and boy have the prices progressively gone up. Happy Hour is maybe 1$ cheaper than regular prices and not much of a happy hour. It’s disappointing to see as I used to go to gyu kaku every weekend, my favorite being the Topanga mall location. Now it’s maybe once every other month, my friends feel the same, They’ve been growing and raising their prices even before how bad inflation is now. Anyways I will still always love gyu kaku, this particular experience was okay. We ordered 2 yaki shabu’s, 1 filet mignon, sukiyaki bimbimbap, and the chicken karage. The yaki shabu portions looked smaller than usual especially for the price and the chicken karage was exceptionally dry and over done. We still felt a bit hungry afterwards but we felt it wasn’t worth the price and didn’t order more. Gyu kaku is definitely somewhere you need to go atleast once for anyone whose never been, the food and meat always tastes so good! But the prices just aren’t worth what you’re getting anymore sadly.
Went with my family, a group of five. We were sad that we could not do the all-you-can-eat unless every single person at the table did it because there was only one person who didn't want to do it because salmon isn't offered in the all-you-can-eat. The only seafood you can get an all-you-can-eat is shrimp or calamari. Our waiter was great and very friendly. I really think they need to season their vegetables and side dishes better, they were pretty tasteless and dry. Some butter, oil, something! I do recommend the mushroom packet though it's delicious if you cook it long enough especially. That does have butter. The garlic noodles are the best ever. The vegetable spring rolls were a hit and it was so fun to do the s'mores at the end. Decent value and good location.
2/27/26 So visiting with my mom and dad, they like this place so we came here for dinner and we were sat immediately. Servers were great, I say that because our first one went on break and then the second one had a break so we had Scott who was awesome. I didn’t remember the names of the other ones 😆 sorry. We ordered the Yakiniku Party which is for 4 people(See Photo). The meat and sides just kept coming but we were all hungry and it ended up being just right. Service was great. Food and Portions were good . Ambiance was very chill with music playing but not loud . All in all Me and My son and parents had a good time and food was good . Enjoy !!!!
We came on a Sunday and there was no wait. We chose the basic all you can eat which comes with a ton of options. 90 minutes limit, at beginning we didn't order too much because we were scared if we can't finish. Big mistake, apparently the meat quality was very high but very small portion. It was also takes time for the waitress to come back to order more. So we basically wasted a lot of time just staring at the empty grill. Food was great though, nice dessert and the marshmallows. Parking was also easy because it is by a parking garage. I would recommend ordering as much as you can and also early before you ran out of food.
First of all it's extremely welcoming 🙏 to get served at this place! It was my first time and Sergio was an amazing 👏 waiter and the staff is super friendly and fun! It was an incredible experience and word to the wise the bathroom is clean 👌! The Manager Georgia is super friendly and it was great!
We had such a great time last night , we took our daughter and our granddaughter for a New Years Dinner, Lisette was our waitress. She’s top Notch. She took care of is, we got our food and drinks quickly. She is just the best.. I totally recommend Guyu in Pasadena. Lisette deserves recognition she does an amazing job.
I had heard about this place 15-20+ years ago, although hadn't tried it out before today. The server I got was pretty experienced, so he helped me cook my meat. Unfortunately, I forgot his name, but he told me he had been working at this restaurant for seven years! Anyway, I only ordered the beef and pork meats. I felt like the quality was pretty great. All of them were super tender, which I prefer with this type of food. The side salad with eggs is delish and filling as well; I had to get two. They even offer special veggie dishes with baked cheese fondue. I liked my egg soup. Only gripe seems that my kimchi was too spicy, although I don't eat spicy food so my tastes are warped. By the end of the meal, I was already stuffed but still got a chocolate cake with ice cream... Hit the spot. Probably not a place I'd crave often. Wouldn't mind coming back, though.
Rice was overcooked, meat was okay. Any korean bbq spot in rowland heights would be better than this for half the price.
The restaurant is pretty spacious compare to Gyu Kaku in Beverly Hills. The atmosphere was good, hostesses were super friendly. Food was amazing as always. To start we had miso soup & salad. We had tuna poke nachos, chili & yuzu roast beef (both were delicious). For the meat we had 6 kinds. Everything was almost perfect till the last part that we were given wrong dessert (we asked two orders of s’mores but we got one s’mores + green tea ice cream). Our waiter was missing in action so we had to swallow it since the ice cream started to get melted. I also had to ask the hostess to swipe the card cos our waiter, Aaron, was nowhere to be found.
I wish they had a few more sides, but the food is delicious and they have a good selection of meats. My issue was with the advertised pricing not being honored. On their website, it mentions lunch pricing goes until a 'last seating' of 5pm, which would indicate as long as you are seated by 5pm, you receive that price. After planning our visit around that, it turns out they do not honor lunch pricing for any order placed after 4:30pm, so nothing to do with 'last seating' or '5pm.' The manager was nice enough to offer a little discount, but it doesn't change the fact that the advertised price is not being honored, and that deception definitely tainted the experience.
food was low quality, down to the vegetables. atmosphere is cold and slightly dirty feeling. won’t come back
This is my second time here. Really disappointed. We waited for food half of the time. The waitress was evidentially overwhelmed. (And don't have the best attitude...) Customer service from this woman is a one. (Or 0.5). Hannael, If you don't want to work on Thanksgiving Day, don't... I'm sure you have a choice? Food was okay. I had a real good experience several years ago. Not sure what happened. but. Definitely won't be coming back. (Left the restaurant feeling real grouchy... :( )
We've been to gyu kaku in different places many times, this place in Pasadena is the worst! Ordered a set but missing kimchi, miso soup, 1 salad instead of 2. The smores sold out but didn't let us know before we ordered it. We have 4 people but they only gave us 2 ice cream as replacement instead. Never oiled our grill. Missing a sauce plate. The miso soup (that we have to ask for it ourselves) tasted like water. The meat wasn't marinated properly. Overall the one in Brea and Huntington Beach are so much better than this one.
Paid +$2 for garlic rice, which was sour and on the verge of complete spoilage - tasted sour and unappetizing. Individual ingredients did not look or taste fresh. Limp sauteed onions seemed old. Miso soup did not seem fresh either, and also had slight pungent smell. Always disappointing to go out to eat and be served spoiled food. Meat did not taste old, but got many pieces of chewy unpleasant fat and connective tissue. Nice variety of meats and marinades. Ice cream was yum. Salad was yum. Hesitant to eat out again soon - seems many restaurants are so willing to put out old rotting food. Dined in for lunch special $15 for 2 meat choices & happy hour $4 for 12oz. Love the frosty mugs. Opt for plain white rice. I saw later the garlic rice popped up in other reviews as also being spoiled. My roommate got full on diarrhea. I got a sour stomach and bloating, but I took a bunch of tums right away. If we got the plain white rice would rate 4 stars.
This place used to be good went back and waited 40 min on Sunday for lunch when the restaurant barely had 6 tables but the delay because on 2 servers working and after that she told us it’s going to take 45 min to get the order so we left and they didn’t even care that’s horrible management.
This is the worst interaction with a manager I have ever had in my life. I've written a great review about this location before, but now my thoughts have completely changed and we'll never be coming back. We were a party of 8, so we were seated with two grills. Our friend's grill was working perfectly fine, but ours.... it took 45 minutes to "steam" the beef on top. 20 minutes in, I flagged to a staff passing by and he said he'll get someone. 10 more minutes go by, I flagged it to the waitress who dropped off more meet, that we couldn't cook since we were still trying to cook our first plate of meat, and she said "oh it could be the skirt around the grill" and then took it off with her bare hands. That should've sounded the alarm bell to her that obviously our grill was not hot enough if she could touch something that had been in direct contact with it and not be hurt. Then 10 more minutes go by, no improvement and the beef on the grill was finally a safe temperature and we started on our next plate of beef. The restaurant recommends 45-90 seconds per side, and at that point we were at 40 minutes for just this plate of beef. Our waiter, who had not stopped at our table ONCE, since this all started, I had to flag him down after he dropped off something for the table next to us and tell him our grill wasn't working. He finally put his hand over the grill and realized, oh yes, something was wrong. He then grabbed the bus boy and had him help us. At this point, we're an hour into sitting down, have eaten one plate of meat, and technically are supposed to be kicked out in 30 minutes. The bus boy who came over to fix the grill had to use a toothpick to stick into individual flame spouts to clear our the crud and char that had been stuck and causing the flame to not come through, it was DISGUSTING. I flag that to the waiter and ask to see a manager. 25 minutes go by and the manager comes to drop off food to our table. I wait for him to say anything, and he doesn't so I finally ask if he is the manager. It's obvious he is because he wearing a completely different uniform and his name tag has "manager" on it. He says yes, and then I begin to tell him our problems with the wait time, that none of the staff believed there was something wrong with the grill until the 3 person and we had been waiting over an hour now to eat just one plate of meat, and the fact that I had asked to talk to him and he didn't come to do so when I had done so twice. The manager immediately became defensive and backpedaling saying he didn't know that he was supposed to come to talk to me specifically and that he did fix the grill and that side of the table looked to be having a good time laughing. I was furious, of course that side of the table was having a good time, they didn't have the problems, and he should've asked the whole party and table how we were doing instead of assuming. It was very clear we were one party and one table. He just said he would go check with the staff what happened and be back. I did not appreciate the way he spoke to me condescendingly and that I was in the wrong for trying to get something fixed in the first place. It was also very clear he had never handled an upset diner before because he continued to evade my questions and backpedal. I never once heard an apology from him. This was only my first interaction with him, the second one is worse, but Google won't let me write anymore so I wrote it all on Yelp.
Made reservations for Valentine's day weeks ahead just so I would be waiting 40 + for a table.
I was told by the server that the entire table had to have the same package for the all you can eat portion of the menu. While I can certainly understand this regarding the tiers, meaning if two people have a lower tier then a third orders a higher tier, the two could sneak portions, etc. You'd like to believe the best in people but that's life. I asked the staff if there was any way to make an exception because I was taking my daughter and her friends out for a large party, and I was going to order a la carte because I don't eat meat at all. They were completely unwilling to make any sort of exception. I'm completely willing follow the rules, however, I politely challenged them on saying a number of options and absolutely stone wall. Rigid adherence to policy and a lack of customer service ruined the experience for me. Then I sat for forty five minutes in their bar area and no one came to take my order. It was much longer, but the reason I mentioned the forty-five minutes is a spider dropped off the ceiling and landed on my head
I ate here with friends last night, the foods were made with so much fat and sodium, they were made without intention to nutritious, but to create harms for our bodies. The dinning room is filthy, shared soy sauce bottles sticky from lack of cleaning, the servers were there to toss foods on the table, very unprofessional and their tips are added without consent. Avoid this place at all cost
The overall one star is mainly for service at this restaurant. I love their food but with a reservation even, we waited 15 mins to be seated. It took about 30 mins for the food to start coming. Yes, start coming meaning they brought it out in very big gaps. We got the shushito pepper when we were done with dinner, and trust me it took a long time till we were done with dinner because they brought out the beef but not the rice or noodles. So we sat there till the rest came out. Overall it was a horrible experience because the service was horrible. I have been there a couple of times and i always get frustrated over the service but this time was really bad. Thats why i had to leave a review.
I called in just to make a reservation and check my gift card balance. The manager there, named Lynn, who was extremely rude, dismissive, and incompetent straight off the bat refused to assist. I was asking another question when she kept on cutting and interrupting me so I told her to wait and listen to me first, in which she abrasively just hung up on me. This kind of harassment and next level professionalism will only kick all potential customers away and I don’t get why they are paying someone who does nothing but kicking their customers away.
Terrible service and a very disappointing experience overall. We spent nearly two hours here and received minimal food and attention the entire time. In that span, we only got three rounds of meat and two water refills, which is unacceptable for an AYCE-style BBQ experience. The rice we were served was undercooked. When we informed the staff, they didn’t take the rice back until we specifically asked them to. Even after that, it took about 15 minutes for replacement rice to arrive. Our waiter told us he would check on us every 5–10 minutes, but in reality, we saw him around three times total during the entire two-hour visit. We also only received three grill changes in that time, despite cooking continuously. The lack of urgency, follow-up, and basic service made the experience frustrating. Unfortunately, this visit completely missed the mark, and we won’t be returning.
I’m leaving a 1 star not for the restaurant itself but for the bathrooms. I’ve never been into a Gyu-Kaku let alone a restaurant that has such nasty bathrooms. There is a blue film all over the sinks. Grime on the backs of the toilets. Calcium built up on the hand dryer. The paper towel dispenser doesn’t work. There is dirt grime on every corner of the bathroom and the partition bottoms between the stalls and around the sinks. These bathrooms need a deep cleaning.
Extremely slow service, our waiter must’ve clocked out or went on break without saying anything. 50 dollars per person for AYCE wouldn’t be so bad if our rounds took so long to come. I understand it’s only 2 plates per person but it had still taken about 25 minutes just to get what we ordered per round. We didn’t order any appetizers, only the meat to cook. Had to flag down our waiter several times to make sure we could order our rounds before we went hungry again. We ordered drinks but only half of them ended up making it to our table. We ended up getting charged for one that we never got. At the very end we had seen no sign of our waiter for at least 30 minutes and had to flag another person down just to leave. It was not busy at the time, so I had no idea why it took so long just to get just about anything. Left a one dollar tip. Could’ve had something but the service was that terrible. Food was okay.
