Opinions de Osteria dal Cantuné Pezzana
We went to Cantunè di Pezzana, five adults and one child, and we had a truly wonderful time. The atmosphere was welcoming, the staff friendly and attentive, even to the needs of the little ones. The dishes were excellent, carefully prepared, and plentiful: you could tell they use quality ingredients and that they put passion into their cooking. The service was quick, unhurried, but always attentive. The prices were more than fair for what they offer. In conclusion: a perfect evening, we'll definitely be back!
During our Iveco 50th anniversary visit to the Marazzato Foundation, located a half-hour drive away, we decided to stop for dinner, first because we'd already spotted it in the morning due to the ample parking, and second because it was on the Foundation's list of recommended places. An old roadhouse, modernized with a gray paint job, which I don't think does it justice (I would have preferred it to keep its original colors), houses a restaurant on the ground floor and this osteria on the first floor. There's an elevator, but you have to request use of it from the owners, so two flights of stairs lead to the osteria. The tables are set with fabric tablecloths, a rare find these days, but one I greatly appreciated. The menu is based on Piedmontese and Vercelli dishes. Carefully presented, well-portioned, balanced flavors. The risottos are freshly cooked, with an open kitchen. The gorgonzola risotto with hazelnuts and onions was very balanced and delicate, even if there had been a pot to clean... The fillet on creamed potatoes, etc., medium rare, was incredibly tender and buttery. I recommend booking because it's misleading to be in the middle of nowhere, but on a Saturday night the place is packed.
A no-frills restaurant serving traditional dishes from the Vercelli countryside. Worthy of note are the frogs, fried bull pxxxe, and other delicacies for adult gourmets only. It's a shame I didn't get to try the panissa; I know: making just one risotto isn't easy or cheap, but I'd be willing to pay a premium for a single portion to try a good risotto, especially when traveling between Monferrato and Vercelli!
Lovely people
These are the places I love. It's a family-run restaurant where you eat very well, with many typical dishes from the Vercelli province, and the portions are generous, yet inexpensive. You absolutely must try the pasta with bagna cauda sauce, or the risotto, the famous Panissa di Vercelli, and a real treat that few offer anymore, when they're in season, are the fried frog legs. There's so much more to try; go and discover it. I always recommend making a reservation, as it's always crowded for business lunches, given that it's located on a main road. But it's worth it because the kitchen does a great job, with such large portions. The owners are also very friendly. The coffee is good, definitely worth a visit. A famous chef even filmed an episode of a TV show about truck drivers in the restaurant... Highly recommended.
Delicious local specialties. I don't recommend the amari because they're so good you'll spend more on them than on the meal, so I highly recommend them. The spaghetti alla bagna cauda, the priest's hat, and the bull's balls à la Luigi are spectacular. The fried frogs are so good they sell out quickly, so reserve yours! Excellent selection of wines and amari, did I mention?
Stunning food, good prices and super environment! Did a dinner with some school friends and everyone was absolutely stunned!
Nice place for lunch. Good variety of choices on the menu. Friendly staff accommodated our Senza Glutine requirements for our daughter. Even our dog was treated well. Great value as well.
Amazing value and quality
A good place for a business lunch. The view of Her Majesty Monte Rosa is magnificent, and from the restaurant's parking lot, it feels like you can reach out and touch it. The dishes were of good quality. I agree with those who would have preferred the roadhouse to have kept its original color, but I've already read other responses regarding the same issue. An honorable mention goes to the charming waitress who dispensed breadsticks when the table was taken.
I really liked the family-run trattoria atmosphere; it felt like you were at a friend's tavern, even though it's obviously not a tavern, but I don't know, maybe I was expecting something more due to the hype surrounding the place, the name, etc. The staff and service were fantastic; it was pleasant to chat, the dishes were simple but well-prepared. Definitely a restaurant to keep in mind if you're passing through the area! The price was absolutely right for the quality and quantity; in fact, it's one of the few times you leave feeling happy with your money!
A restaurant in the heart of Vercelli's rice fields. Ample parking. Traditional Piedmontese and Vercelli dishes. Quality ingredients. Excellent dishes on the fixed-price menu (very good value). Wide selection on the à la carte menu; good wine selection. Friendly and professional staff and owners.
Good food, perfectly plated. The only flaw...the appetizer lacked character...and the Panissa Vercellese was a little too intense...certainly a reinterpretation. Overall, a good lunch. Prices were a bit high for an "osteria," even though they were effectively plated like a restaurant.
Osteria del Cantunè is located on the outskirts of Vercelli; I went there for lunch for work with two colleagues in February. We chose it because it's close to the highway and has parking. I was impressed by the fact that it's on the first floor (perhaps because construction was underway on the ground floor), but once you open the security door, it feels like you're walking into someone's home. The place was crowded (mostly men and workers), and a sign on the wall listed the menu price at €12. The waitress who served us told us the three first courses and three second courses, and we chose the beef steak. When it was brought, let's just say the portions weren't the same: a small one with green beans, a slightly larger one with a little salad, and an even larger one with green beans on the side. Now I understand that for €12 it couldn't have been a Florentine steak, but the fact that they changed the knife led us astray... We also ordered a plate of Pasta alla Norma, but the ricotta and eggplant were missing, so we ordered pasta with tomato sauce. We also ordered half a liter of wine (€5). What can I say: if you're in a hurry, it's fine; if you're having lunch for work, it's fine. The food was good, but otherwise, it wasn't. I'm attaching some photos of the restaurant, of my steak...
