I stopped by Mezzo with my cousin earlier this week and we had such a great time. We started the night with drinks and shared an appetizer, then I ordered the eggplant parm while she got the short rib pasta both were delicious. We also tried the arancini and finished with tiramisu, which was the perfect ending to the meal. Such a good dinner spot if you haven’t been yet! 🍝✨
Recently went on a hot July day, and I guess the AC was broken because it was quite hot inside and only a couple of fans to keep air moving. However, we were lucky enough to be sat at the Chef VIP table. There we got to get a peek into the kitchen and a meet and greet with the executive chef. He explained the philosophy of the restaurant and menu (all fresh, high quality ingredients, and no food waste). We were treated to an off menu appetizer based on what we generally liked, and it was out of this world ( sort of a deconstructed Philly cheesesteak). We ordered some pizzas and pasta which were absolutely fantastic. Really an amazing experience, and appreciated the attention from the chef. Look forward to coming back and will actually plan to have an event here based on our experience and meeting with the chef.
We went here today after a show at the Benedum and besides from some confusion about where to check in for our reservation everything was fantastic. Our server was friendly and attentive. The food was delicious and the tiramisu was perfect!
Just had the most phenomenal culinary experience at Mezzo. Chef Jared, who has worked hard to revamp the menu and dining experience, has created a restaurant with a true farm to fork feel. I enjoyed the pork belly appetizer, sampled the beef carpaccio, and got the dry aged steak as a main. The steak was cooked to perfection, and thank goodness the potatoes helped me soak up all the goodness on the plate! Definitely try the homemade bread and desserts! The staff was incredibly knowledgeable and welcoming (I HIGHLY recommend the smoked old fashioned’s!) Overall a 10/10 experience and I can’t wait to go back and sample the pizzas!
The second floor was so nice to dine in, much quieter. The food was great! My husband and I shared salad, the braised short rib app and the gnocchi entree. Very good!
Chef Jared is an amazingly talented chef! Staff is warm and friendly, service is great, and the food is indescribable. The kimchi and risotto were the best I’ve ever had.
Hello I hosted my rehearsal dinner here on the second level, Mezzo. All of my guests raved about the food for days after! Jonathan was great at helping plan the event. The vibe and lighting was cozy and lovely. We had a great time and i highly recommend this for an event!
Super accommodating with my food allergies and absolutely delicious food and drink!
Delicious food. Great staff. Plus live music!
Amazing food, service. And a perfect experience.
Emma the waitress made the night!!!
One of the best pizzas in Pittsburgh! We ordered the sopressata and asked for the honey on the side—absolutely delicious. The ragu was also very good, rich, and flavorful (we added a bit more of salt since we like salty food). We went for a friend’s birthday, and the staff made him feel truly special. The service was outstanding—attentive, friendly, and efficient. Highly recommend this place for both the food and the experience!
They can accommodate All party sizes and you can buy out the restaurant (aka)rent the restaurant out for any occasion, also new is they are open for brunch on Sundays 11:00am-3:00pm
Service was unmatched. Food was imaginative and out of this world delicious. Chef Jared’s talent is a gold mine. Damond is the most talented and creative bartender we’ve ever seen! For an awesome experience we can’t recommend this restaurant enough.
Ahhh so let me start off by saying this girl is a foodie. I've eaten at hundreds if not thousands of restaurants across the globe. I had the most amazing meal prepared by Chef Jared at Mezzo. It was the sea bass special and I truly tasted such decadence like they had just caught the fish. It was so fresh, cooked to perfection with most amazing crust and bed of vegetables. And the Appetizer, ahhh to die for, literally so good. Pork belly paired w watermelon and kimchi. Honestly cannot say enough about the talents of Chef Jared and his staff and how good this food is. Bar staff was also amazing. I had a great dining experience as bartender explained the drinks to perfection, such an interactive experience. If you are looking for a mouth orgasim, this is your spot, trust me.
Jared just redid the menu and it is UNREAL. My wife and I had the best experience here. Please go see the crew and let Jared blow your mind with his new menu. Elise was also super attentive as our server. This place isn’t just a go to, it’s a bucket list item.
Pizza was great. Had the prosciutto pizza with blue cheese. Recommended. The crust tasted fresh and olive oil-y. On a nice, energetic street.
Attentive, genuine and kind staff! Service was excellent! Food was excellent! Wine was excellent! (Ask to speak with the bar manager for a solid selection of bottles off the menu!) We will be back!
Great food, great service. I’ll definitely come back the next time I’m in the ‘burg
Absolutely amazing atmosphere and amazing food. The drinks were amazing and our waitress even let us try a new one that’s coming out soon. Our waitress Daisy was phenomenal!!!! She was so kind and attentive and a pleasure to be served by. We’ll definitely be coming back because of here!! You’re the best Daisy!!!
Just wait until the end!!! The pizza was the best and way too much for one person. Was expecting more of a personal size pizza but no complaints! Just meant that I’d be enjoying pizza the following day! The service was on point!! Daisy had everything that was needed before ever having to ask for it! That’s the test of an excellent server!! She was friendly, yet professional, honest when answering our questions, which insured our over the top satisfaction and return should we comeback to this area again while on a weekend adventure. I would definitely request Daisy and count myself lucky if she were to be here! The service being number one… I would have to rate the “Tiramisu” the second best thing this establishment had to offer! An absolute masterpiece which made runs up and down my tastebuds as though they were musical instruments! I have requested late checkout from the Marriott across the street just to grab one to take with me! I don’t expect to make it far & definitely not home, but why not enjoy the best things in life while you are here on this beautiful journey!! Thank You Mezzo at Sienna Mercator & Daisy, as well as the chef and back of the house whom all made my family’s visit to Pittsburg one to remember!!
Seems like a great place. Went for a small meal and cocktail before the theater. We did not have time for a pizza because it was backed up with a bunch of orders so we got the bacon wrapped dates and 2 big mozz-stuffed meatballs. It was pretty good. Cocktail was made well and the bartender was great. Music and ambience were perfect; Sinatra tunes not too loud, good lighting, warm and cozy. Wanted to go back for pizza after the show but they closed just a bit too early. I think they should stay open later especially since they are only open Thur-Sat. Need to come back again to sample the pizza.
Great atmosphere, good service, disappointing food. The charcuterie is 35 dollars but the quality was NOT there. Like, it looks like someone went to an Aldi, grabbed prepackaged sliced cheese, and slapped it on a block of wood. The Carbonara was incredibly grainy. The pizza, however, was good, so if you're going to eat here I'd reccomend sticking with the pies.
The food was good and the atmosphere was nice too. Our waiter was wonderful very accommodating and warm to my family and I, and would definetly hope to be served by her if we ever come back. The reason the service is 2 stars is because the restaurant was clearly understaffed, and they had 2 waiters on the floor who were stretched out, each with a big group of 10+ and a couple small tables. The responsibility is on the restaurant to hire enough people.
The focaccia was more like flat bread and it was barely warm, which was confusing to see from a place that considers itself Italian. I had the sausage orrechiette pasta which was fine, but the sauce was a bit more runny than I would have wanted it to be. The shrimp scampi lacked seasoning, but was otherwise also just fine. The service was great though. Our server did a great job at handling all of our orders and providing recommendations to our group.
The food was really good but it’s overpriced. I got the pork belly for a small plate. What I got were 3, nearly 1/2 inch pieces wide of pork belly for $17. Not sure if the dish is always served that way or if it was just bc it was a Saturday night and they didn’t have much to give. We were going to get tiramisu but we were told it’s entirely a whipped dessert. Not worth the $12/$14 or however much it was for pudding.
We started with the foccicia bread and shared a caesar salad, as they were was provided with our $30+ meals. The foccicia was hard, cold, however came with an olive oil and balsamic base which was tatsy for dipping. The Caesar salad was a great choice, per our server it was large enough to share and he was absolutely correct. I was supprised there was not a merlot to go with our Italian meal and the cab was vinegary at best. We instead chose an iced tea and an espresso martini, both average. My husband had a very good chicken Parm. The ragu was scrumptious and the portion size generous. I ordered eggplant parmesan, after a few bites of the delicious pasta, I bit into meat😳 our server quickly remedied this bringing me back the correct dish. If we visit again, it looks like the 1st floor will be an option. Maybe trying the pizza which has rave reviews above.
Very disappointed! Mezzo has undergone a lot of changes over the past four years which has resulted in it being one of the most inconsistent restaurants in Pittsburgh. There have been chef changes, management changes and staff changes....none of which has resulted in consistent experiences. My wife and I dined there a few months ago and had a wonderful experience. Last night, our experience was anything but wonderful. The menu had changed AGAIN. It was much smaller and the choices were limited. We shared what was "called" herbed focaccia bread....which turned out to be a round of baked flat pizza dough heavily sprinkled with dried herbs likely from a shaker that was intended for enhancing "dipping oil". We shared the entree of crab cakes which were salty and kinda "mushy" and the gnocchi which arrived at our table as a mountain of previously frozen gnocchi which were overcooked by at least three to four minutes. It was more like gnocchi mashed potatoes! The only bright spot was that our special request for a window seat WAS granted! Please know that "I" have given glowing reviews of Mezzo in the past ...but NOT this time. Please bring back my old Mezzo!!!
Let's start with the arugula salad....It looked like they reached into a bag of arugula and tossed it on a plate and threw in some sliced cherry tomatoes and a few slices of fresh mozzarella..My eggplant parm....bland as can be. The crab stuffed ravioli...just as bad. The highlight..if you want to call it that was the tiramisu. Should have gotten the pizza...NOT WORTH the $120 we spent...Do yourself a favor and go somewhere else.
Our server on 5/23, who was wearing a black bow in her hair, was nowhere to be found for most of our meal, and we often sat for long stretches of time with no service. She was friendly enough but it really felt like she knew she was getting the automatic gratuity from our table so she didn't really care to give good service.
The atmosphere is great but the food was disappointing. We got the margarita pizza and it was less than impressive. Very oily and lukewarm. The fried zucchini didn’t have any flavor and was soggy. Disappointing for the price! Our server was nice but not super attentive. I wouldn’t go back unfortunately. There are plenty of more affordable places around the city that have much better food.
Expected "fine dining" as stated on website for the 2nd floor of this restaurant. Just big, open, loud space similar to 1st floor sports bar atmosphere. 2 chefs were off (called in sick?) and, so, menu was limited. Cocktails were very good but every food items we ordered was marginal (frico app swimming in oil, seafood pasta oily & not much flavor, prosciutto pizza just ok). Felt heavy and uncomfortable after eating less than half. Maybe fault is ours for what we ordered. There was live music downstairs competing with music playing on mezzo level. Or clue should've been that this restaurant was ~ 20% occupied at 7:30p on a Friday evening (other places looked packed). Will not waste time or $ here again.
Forgot to give wine, cutlery and so slow service. Food sucks and sometimes they are out of key ingredients and don’t inform
Absolutely mid italian food for $20+ plate and a bar that doesn’t back it up, really disappointing. Black Manhattan was see through and watered down. Bolognese was $28 and tasted no better than home. Service was good. We booked reservations 2 weeks in advance and were sticked right next to the server station though, adding to the disappointment. Pasta and bread also did not come with Parmesan which I have always gotten at an Italian restaurant.
Big volleyball tournament lots of people around for lunch on a Friday. Was told they were opening at 11:30, so we waited for 30 minutes outside until 11:30. 11:40 still not open told opening soon, but left when it wasn’t clear what the real opening time was.
Reservation for 5:15 PM for two people (me and my wife). Seated at 5:00 PM Waited at the table for over 40 minutes before anyone came over to even acknowledge that we were there. It took my wife the step of getting up and speaking with the host to remind them we even existed. We order, and our pizza came at 6:00 PM, but my wife’s carbonara didn’t come until closer to 6:15 PM. Absolutely disappointing service for what we hoped would be a great place.
The pizza shells are frozen and store bought. In fact, I'm pretty sure they're the same frozen pizza shells they sell at Sam's club where you can get 20 for $30. Which would be fine except they're charging $30 for a 12" 8-slice pizza. Nothing that we ordered was seasoned. We had a decent time but the pricing does not match the quality.
Saturday night, January 17,2026 was the first time I have ever ate at a restaurant and not left a tip. I wanted to take this woman out for a nice dinner so we looked through the different restaurants participating in restaurants week and their menus. We had been to a few of them and wanted to try something different and Mezzo at Sienna Mercato had the most impressive menu. We get there, the ambiance was nice and it smelled great. We were set at a nice table. It took a while before the waiter came over and things started to go down hill. We both noticed that everyone else had a nice bottle of water at their table to refill their glass at their leisure while we were given iced water in a glass and mine was plastic. Didn't complain. We order our apps, never got any silverware and had to ask for it after the apps were on the table for a few minutes. Didn't complain. She got the Burrata, which was fire with the blistered tomatoes and balsamic drizzle. I got the Fried Calamari which could of used a lil salt imo but was fresh and cooked perfectly. We order our entrees. She got the Gnocchi Florentine. I ordered the Short Rib w/ papperdelle pasta which was the deciding factor in picking the restaurant in the first place. We were served half portions, which i know we were paying reduced prices for but you'd think these type of establishments would jus serve the normal portion size because it was a limited menu and restaurant week is an advertisement for future business. We order a bottle of Kowerich For Fairies & Elives Riesling wine, which i pronounced the best i could but the waiter didn't have any knowledge about flavor profile or what it paired with. I know Rieslings are sweeter, refreshing, and crisp so we get it anyway and it was great. Entrees come out and he brings her the Gemelli A La Vodka instead of the Gnocchi. My Short Rib and Papperdelle should have been called Short Rib flavored cause there were more rstd carrots and no short Rib to speak of. I felt like I was given leftovers for real. We had to get his attention to let him know that he brought the wrong entree. He never apologized but they did make her a full portion of the Gnocchi. Still didn't complain. We order dessert she ordered the Panna Cotta and I theTiramisu. We were told the Panna Cotta was 86, which happens but he should've known before we ordered and got Cannolis instead. The Tiramisu was pretty good but the Cannolis was the worst I have ever had we left them pretty much untouched. WE STILL DIDN'T COMPLAIN. He brings the bill, I put my card in but never looked at it cause I knew round about what we spent. I open it with plans tip in cash cause I know that's service staff preference, only to see that he charged us double. He didn't offer us discount after all this so I asked to see a manager. I tried so hard not to complain cause we were the only minorities in there and I know the stereotype. The manager finally came and I recapped or experience. He did discount the bottle of wine. I left their pissed and still hungry!! I End up at the crib eat chicken potstickers.
I ordered shrimp scampi. What I got was a bowl of lemon juice with noodles. If I wasn't starving and after the prolonged wait for the kitchen to prepare the meal I would have sent it back. I just couldn't invest as much time as necessary. The atmosphere in no way justified the wait for my meal. Our server was polite and professional. She did bring a luke warm cup of coffee, but brought a hot cup when asked. Unfortunately it took 30+ minutes to get a dessert from the kitchen to the table so my coffee was again luke warm. So after posting my review the restaurant marked me as a no show on the OpenTable reservation site. I disputed the report, obviously I have a receipt. Not only is the food quality low, their pretty petty as well.
We came tonight after an event with some friends. We placed our order and after over an hour of waiting for even our appetizer, we asked for our food to go. We really should have just asked to cancel our food, because it is quite literally the worst food, service & overall restaurant experience we’ve ever had & the food questionably edible. I’m actually appalled we spent $80 at this establishment & hope we don’t get sick from the few bites we did consume. We could barely cut through the meatballs. I wish there was a way to return food or get a refund, because this experience was all around atrocious & would love our money back.
One of the worst restaurant experiences. The only good thing I have to say about this place is that Ben , the guy who got us the table was very nice. It was all downhill after that. We order a beer which we never got. The bar was 10 feet away from us and I could see both bartenders talking killing time talking to each other. After 20 mins of waiting I got up, walked to the bar and ordered the beer myself and brought it to the table. Food ( pasta and risotto ) was very poor. Made the mistake of ordering a tiramisu after checking with the waiter to make sure it was made with ladyfingers. Sure enough the tiramisu was made with a cake base and not ladyfingers. After all that, I received a bill with a 20 percent service charge included. So disappointing that after a fun day in a great city like Pittsburgh and a great lunch at Primanti to have such a horrible experience af Mercato. Avoid if you can. If you have to eat there, really lower your expectations.
Friday night in Pittsburgh. We call the restaurant at 5:15 before our 6:00 reservation. We called to ask about parking and they informed us they weren’t serving food due to a ceiling leak in the kitchen. You would think the restaurant would call and let you know this before you show up with a party of 12 before trying to find another restaurant to go to on short notice with 12 people. Make it make sense. Need more common sense and courtesy.
We are BEYOND angry. We reserved a table for a Valentine’s dinner. We payed close attention to the menu online because I am a vegetarian and there are so many pre fixe menus for Valentines. We get to the restaurant, sit down, and see a pre fixe menu on the table with no vegetarian options. Our server was very sweet and apologized. She said the table before us also had to leave because they were vegetarians and that the restaurant didn’t put the new menu on their website. Kind of ruined our night considering it’s Valentines Day and every other restaurant is booked up for the night. Just ridiculous. Thanks Mezzo for ruining our night! Never coming back.
Can’t rate the food and atmosphere as I received a call the day before my planned visit that my reservation was cancelled due to an event utilizing the entire restaurant. How nice. I make a reservation over a month ago but guess this “new” reservation that the restaurant “just” realized was taking place took priority?? Great customer service. Won’t make a reservation there again.
The bar was practically empty because it is a Tuesday and we were a group of about 15 people. The manager on duty gave terrible service and had an attitude.
Chicken parm barely had any sauce and was watery and was extremely bland. Strawberry margarita was terrible and they put salt on the rim without asking. I mentioned to the waitress that the chicken parm was bland but she just said sorry and walked away. I will never go back here and do not recommend. However, the meatballs at Sienna Mercato downstairs are delicious, so stick to the first floor.
Would not recommend. Waited almost an hour for a table when there were plenty of empty ones in the back by the bar that needed to be pointed out to the hostess as she stated she couldn’t see them because she didn’t have time to walk back there. Then waited for over 30 minutes for our server to come take our order. When the food came out literally 3 out of 4 dishes were cold. Also didn’t receive appetizers until after the food was delivered and then one of them wasn’t delivered until after we asked. Meatballs were bland and cheese bread was cold. Servers had zero sense of urgency and walked around like they had nothing to do.
