I’d move back to Texas just to eat here. You get so much delicious food for a very reasonable price. I love the half chicken and potatoes. Their bbq sauce is one of a kind! You won’t regret coming here at any point in the day!
I have been a customer 30 years and it s the best cooked beef ever. Please anyone travelling on 35, please stop and taste it..you will realize it is the best tasting healthy BBQ. Thanks to Sharon and the team!!!!
Best original BBQ for a family owned business, meat always taste great lots of flavor and cooked just right . The sides are excellent and the desert as well ... if you get a chance try their beef jerky
I will definitely be back to this restaurant 😋 the food was yummy and the prices where great. For me and my husband we spent under $30 for 2 meat plates.
I'm Very picky on my bbq. So decided to try Cowboys BBQ, I had the Brisket and sour cream potatoes... the Brisket was Excellent... I can't say enough good things about the Brisket... Much Better than the "other" local bbq joint... Thanks Cowboys BBQ..I'll be back
Nice family owned Barbque place. The smoked brisket was excellent portions large and worth the money will surely stop back again.
Ordered several pounds of brisket, sausage and sour cream potato’s for my parents anniversary party. Everyone went on and on about how good the meat was and the sour cream potato’s were just amazing.
We love this place, the food is delicious and it's quick and comfortable. A great location, everything you could want. My daughter just reminded me to add that it's also a place that kids like a lot! :-)
Wow, just amazing quantities of food. Air conditioned interior and lots of tables. The combination plate was the best bang for my buck, I got the ribs (huge) and brisket with green bean and sour cream potatoes (basically chunked baked potatoes with fixings). All of it was very good and I will come back for more.
Me and my grandparents eat here every Friday (when we are all available), and always have a good time just relaxing in the welcoming atmosphere and eating together. The food is excellent and homemade, I highly recommend stopping by during lunch or dinner!
Cowboys BBQ offers a quick lunch experience, drawing a down-to-earth, blue-collar crowd. Priced at $12, I enjoyed brisket and two sides, thanks to their all-you-can-eat self-serve buffet of sides. The same staff have worked there for years and that speaks volumes about the establishment's commitment to its employees and the loyalty of its customer base. It's a laid-back venue with outstanding barbecue offerings. Menu attached in picture.

Grew up near this establishment. I consider it a historic landmark since I have been eating here since my youth baseball days. Great food!
I have eaten there twice in the last couple months. BBQ can be hit or miss sometimes (at most places) but the first stop I loved everything I ate there (Brisket, Sausage and sides). Maybe the best brisket I have had in a while and the sausage was delicious (and a lot of places that do brisket great are not so good at sausage). Second time the meat was not as good as the first but still much better than I have had at many other places. I will keep going back and maybe try to catch a band some time.
My husband and I went here for lunch. We got the chopped beef sandwich and potato salad. The food was incredibly good and the staff was very polite. In my opinion, much better than Johnny's BBQ.
We have found our new go to for BBQ. The owners are very humble and the food is amazing. We had the chopped beef, smoked sausage and baked beans and it was all very good!
Unassuming location, but we were so pleased with the food. We had a smoked chicken sandwich, and ordered 2 brisket plates. Yum! We super loved the sour cream potatoes (think "baked potato casserole"). It's a family business, and they were the nicest people ever! ❤❤❤
We were having a family reunion and needed BBQ Lunch. While they are closed on Sundays, Miguel had our order ready for us to pick up. This was truly exceptional. The food was outstanding and everyone loved it. Thank you for making our event memorable!
Chopped beef was delicious and co-worker had the potatoe and was great too

It's not bad at all. Had a sausage sandwich and was very pleased with it! Not the best BBQ I've ever had but I did leave satisfied!
We enjoyed the barbeque that we ate. My ribs were very good. The baked potatoes are huge and fully loaded.
I stopped here for lunch on my way to San Antonino.....They outdid themselves on the ribs... They were very tender. The veggies, however were bland.Other than that everything else was great....I plan to come here again whenever I make another trip to San Antonio.
It was very good but could have been smoked longer. Brisket was too pink and not smoked enough. Otherwise it was very good. The meat was melt in your mouth. So I would return again .
Food was great but service was little slow Place need it little better arrangements and bathroom little more attention on cleaning
The brisket was very tender, but lacked seasoning. It was good with BBQ sauce. The house made 'fire water' has a great flavor and is not too hot
The service was friendly and efficient. They have all of the meats and sides that a Bar-B-Que place should have. The truly surprising part of my meal was that the bark had been removed from my brisket. Others may like this, but for me removing the bark from the brisket is blasphemy.

Nice people Clean dining area Large meat servings - they leave the fat on the brisket but it was completely flavourless Sides ok - slaw crispy but needs more sauce Pinto beans plain no seasoning Sour cream potatoes great Hint hint... try Adobo on your meat
The decor/aesthetic is sub par.. the brisket is ok… kinda dry.. green beans have absolutely no flavor… neither do the beans… service is ok.. everything is pretty bland here
Brisket was great, my wife's ribs were so dry they were hardly edible. Sides were on a steam table that was cold. Won't go back.
Not bad. Rustic but very clean. Ribs were very good but the brisket a bit dry. Sauce is good if unremarkable. The slaw was decent but the green beans were the kind out of a can. The tea was excellent. I would come back if nearby but would not make a special trip either. Oh, the classic Remington Autoloader poster are a nice addition.
I have just recently within the last month moved to Salado and this was the last place I still needed to try when it came to local cuisine. The place was empty at about 5:00 PM so we were able to get in and order then sit down. It has the same ordering style as Clem Mikeska's does where you go up to the front and order then get your food and sit down. No waitresses or waiters are needed. Upon entering the place, it was kept extremely tidy. The two people up front working the counter were nice and we got taken care of immediately. Now I am a big BBQ fan and do my own which always turns out great with pull apart brisket and a nice 1/6 inch or more smoke ring (hate to toot my own horn here but I need a comparison). My wife got the brisket and I got the chicken, we both had potato salad and Mac and Cheese as our sides. The tea was sweetened just right and the mac and cheese was great along with the potato salad. Unfortunately I have to say that their BBQ needs quite the bit of work, especially since Johnny's right up the street makes a near perfect brisket and chicken. I could tell when the brisket hit the plate that my wife was going to be disappointed. No smoke ring and was rather greasy for some reason. Not sure how they prepared it, I am guessing they baked the brisket and injected the smoke since there was no smoke ring. My chicken was much the same way. Greasy and no pinkish color from smoke. Now the food was edible and for 20 dollars between two people wasn't to bad but I could have paid a bit more and went to Johnny's for a better experience. Cowboy's is not a place I would recommend since Johnny's is up the street another mile but if you are looking for a larger establishment where you can sit down, then this is the place to be since the tables are better spaced than Johnny's. I really hate to give a bad review but in this case have to. The place was clean and the staff was friendly but that was about it.
Sausage and potato salad had nice flavor. The brisket was tender but didn't have a lot of flavor.
Good small family BBQ place to eat. Food tasted really good. Was not disappointed. Bathrooms were clean. Dining area was clean!

It's fine. Not the worst, but plenty to be desired - brisket tastes like uts finished in the oven and barely has a smoke ring, ribs are so tough you can barely pull off the greasy bones. Sausage is pretty good actually, but sides leave a LOT to be desired. Came at 1pm on a Saturday, don't know if it was yesterday's everything but I won't be coming out of my way again. Sorry as it seems like a solid group of folks, just not great food. 😕
Very mediocre in terms of BBQ. Brisket was best but not very tender. Sides were just ok as well. People were very nice but I went there for the food.
Well it's bbq if your hungry. I've eaten here twice now, and it's been the same, these are the driest ribs ever. I don't know if they trim them to close or they don't mop them, but they are dry. The portions are good and the price is right, but man the meat is tough to get through. I hope the old pit master finds his old MOJO again.

I give a two as the way I was treated when ordering a chicken sandwich. The Attitude of the counter guy was terrible The sandwich was ok and potato salad was watery tasting. My husbands food was really good
Theres better bbq around.. But the staff was very friendly. Ribs were dry as the bone they were attached to. I got a chopped beef sandwich as well... First potatoe salad ive been served that was mush. No chunks no flavor. Hopefully the other things on the menu are better. I will go back simply on the premise they may have had an off day, and the friendliness of the staff and reasonable price.
It could be a barbecue joint but the brisket was still dry it nearly crackled. If you're going to serve that flat, give me a little fat juice to give it a little bit of flavor. It was bland. Sides were okay. The building is effectively made of plywood so it has a little bit of a barbecue feel to it
It smelled good outside, but after getting my brisket sandwich, it had no taste and was dry. I was very disappointed. The service was good. Nice people. There's enough parking for semi and trailer. Payed around $25 for 2 meals.

Decided to stop in after driving by for a couple of years. Price seemed fair enough, but the food was not good at all. Im usually not overly picky, but the brisket was dry, tough and lacked any sort of "bark". The ribs were also tough. The only reason I am giving it two stars is because the staff was friendly and helpful. Do not recommend.

Called over there, the guy says Cowboy. I asked if they were cooking customers turkeys for Christmas. He said, not today and Hung up. Who cares about the BBQ, no one has to be rude.
We all 3 got the loaded baked potatoes. Decent sized potatoes, decent amount of meat. Butter, cheese and sour cream on the side. Potatoes were not fully cooked and only lukewarm. Meat was plentiful, but not warm or flavorful. Very disappointed.
We stop on our way home to DFW and we only stopped because of the rating. Do not be deceived by the 4 rating. This place does not have quality BBQ. The ribs were tough and dry and not juicy and the brisket as just as bad. The mac&cheese was a pasta in cheese water terrible and the rest of the sides were not good. I think the local towns folks like the place because of the cheap prices but you get what you pay for. Cheap BBQ equals cheap terrible BBQ. Skip this place.
This was the most absolute worst place to eat bbq. Completely over priced. The brisket was all fat and no flavor. Mac and cheese was watered down, green beans straight from a can with no seasoning. If you’re gonna eat bbq in Salado you need to go down to Johnny’s because they definitely know what they’re doing over there
Finally tried it wasn't impressed. Macaroni tasted like water... Ribs and brisket had absolutely no flavor... Very dry where it was a must to eat the meat with BBQ sauce. Only thing that was decent was the pinto beans.
My first visit and asked for recommendations. The customer service came across as I was bothering him (I should have walked out at that moment). I had the Brisket plate about $11. The portions were fine for the money but the brisket was extremely dry even the BBQ sauce couldn’t save it. Cowboys have the brisket sitting under a heat lamp just letting it dry out. The pinto beans and potato salad needed seasoning. Would never recommend this place.
