Opinions de Mama Lupita's Salinas
Love this place. The soup they serve before the meal is simple, but one of the reasons I love this place. My husband and I had our first date at another restaurant this family owned. We found out they opened this one, and10+ years later we still love everything they do.
A must-have hole in the wall for locals in Salinas! Excellent food from a family owned restaurant. I definitely recommend it!
The food is good. And the service amazing. Loved the hand made corn tortillas. And the chocolate abuelita WOW, they even give you a little pot full more chocolate.
Amazing Tortillas! Warm service. I had the machaca con huevos, it was sensational and very generously portioned. I will be back when next I am in Salinas.
Love it every time I go here! My family chooses this place over all other options after a family get together. It's a small kitchen, so if you have a big group, expect a bit of a wait. It's worth it!
Amazing homemade Mexican food. Friendly staff. I usually get the vegetarian burrito, it comes with a little cup of soup. And they serve beers now! Bring cash for a tip, their credit card machine doesn't allow them to put a tip.
This restaurant has been a long time favorite for lunch with family and friends. Their service is prompt and the food is good. It's also a great option for a quick business lunch.
Delicious and full of flavor. I knew it was a great spot just by trying the salsa. Easily some of the best horchata I've had in a long time. Great food, great price, fast service. Definitely worth trying if you're in the area.
Excellent service, great piping hot food that's fresh and made to order
Only had a chance to try the breakfast burrito, but it was delicious. The home made taste of the tortilla, scrambled eggs, potatoes, bacon and salsa was delightful to the palate. Very filling. Will be back to try more on the menu.
Came on for posole on this cold day, it was absolutely delicious. The broth was flavorful and the meat was jucy and soft. The horchata was brought in a large cup and perfectly sweetened. Absolutely recommending to my friends and I will definitely be returning to try other menu items.
Great breakfast burrito wrapped in a sensational tortilla, spicy salsa and chips were a lovely bonus. The cookies for sale at the counter were a nice surprise, absolutely delicious!
if you want Mexican authentic food...come to this place.
When I want to sit down and have Mexican food, I don't want the typical watered-down Americanized experience. This place was authentic, started to become packed with locals, which is always a good sign. I've told a few people recently that I prefer this kind of experience to a high-end restaurant experience. I just want to sit down, be comfortable, let my belt out a couple notches if necessary! Great food, friendly service, feels like part of the family.
Fantastic food and great service. Combo plates are a great value. Lupita’s daughter was so kind!
Truly one of the best hole in the wall places I’ve ever uncovered. I’ll spare you the story, but I highly suggest you try their food. If it’s early, go with the breakfast burrito. Probably the best breakfast burrito I’ve ever had when considering overall value of food quality, quantity, and price. They even give you free chips and salsa to go with your order. Nobody does that. Enjoy and tell all your friends!
It's one of those hole-in-the-wall mexican restaurants. Those are the best because they always have amazing food. This place definitely didn't disappoint! The tortilla for my street taco was homemade and delicious. The rice was top-notch. The waitress was sweet and helpful and deserves a raise. I would definitely come back here at any point.
First time here, quick lunch stop. The decor is modest, and the food is authentic and delicious. I had the Happy Bowl with cactus. It was very delicious, and a perfect portion with feeling overstuffed. My wife had Caldo de pollo soup, also delicious. Lunch for 4 was $70.
It's my first time here.. it's a Small cozy dinner. Exactly what I was looking for. The waitress was very nice. She alone gets 10 stars. The food was cooked to perfection. I had sausage omelet with cheese. Side of vegetables and bacon. I'll be going back here for sure.
Food was perfectly seasoned, waitress was very personable and provided excellent service. Was told menudo only available after 4pm on weekdays but all day on weekends. Bitt of a bummer but doesnt detract from food n service.
Family home style food.. lots of it, took half back home for breakfast the next day.. awesome veggies breakfast!
Hidden just up the way, Homemade Posole Verde and Rosso. That is my Mission every time.
Got the Mole covered enchiladas! Delicious
This place is delicious! The server we had was very nice and effecient!! Their food is delicious!!!
Always good eats
Great selection of breakfast and lunch dishes at affordable prices. The service is always good, too.

Great selection of breakfast and lunch dishes at affordable prices. The service is always good, too.
Great food and great service! Fave Mexican restaurant in Salinas.
The food was so good, fresh. The carna Sada was not cooked until you order it! I had a burrito supreme, less the sour cream, so good. The chips were probably one of the best I ever had. My husband had tacos and he said it was good too. We will definitely go back! Clean restaurant and service was good too!

Very good Mexican food and great prices. They are not price gouging like most other Mexican restaurants in town. The remain affordable and the food is great. You get chips and salsa with a consomé with every sit in meal.
Fantastic service! We were greeted and seated right away. Great home made chips. Good Mexican coffee. We were given a complimentary hot soup because it was raining. Food was delicious, big servings.
This is a quaint little spot in South Salinas for authentic Mexican food. I love their burritos. Each meal comes with chips, salsa and soup. Prices are fair and food is delicious! Service is excellent and staff is attentive and kind. Stop by and check it out.
Tamales and burrito were excellent. The salad was so little for the price...barely any meat too.
I came to Mama Lupita's for lunch one day after several hours in the court room listening to juror selection procedures. So I had pretty high expectations and an empty stomach. There's not too much to say about the restaurant itself. It's somewhat bare, but it's the kind of raw, undesigned design where you can be pretty sure you're about to eat some incredible Mexican food. But let's verify that. How good really was it? To begin my meal, I was provided the standard chips and salsa, as well as a consommé that was more like a fiery noodle soup and was quite enjoyable. The chips tasted fresh and rich. But I was let down by the salsa. It really just tasted like watered down cayenne powder, with no interesting notes in flavor or texture. Thus it was also unjustifiably spicy, which is a terrible sin for a salsa to commit. I ordered the costillas con nopales, and they arrived on an enormous platter with fresh, housemade corn tortillas. The dish was also quite spicy, but this time it felt earned. There were layers in the rich scarlet broth (it looked much brighter in person), some of which were supplied by the meat and nopales. It was a cohesive dish, and not like anything I've had before. The beans and rice were surprisingly good, as I thought they had an anemic appearance. The tortillas were intriguing as well. Not as succulent as a typical housemade corn tortilla but with a curious chewiness and leathery exterior that gave them a delightful mouthfeel. I wish I could have had a few more. I had a pretty good lunch, and I had the good fortune to discover that Mama Lupita's also has rather comfortable bathrooms, which beat the courthouse stalls by a mile. If you're looking to beat the jury duty blues I wouldn't off the bat recommend this place (there are plenty of others to try, and I have found better not too much farther away) but given the short walk and decent food I wouldn't tell you not to give it a shot -- just don't take that as legal advice.
Two people ate here for $25 with tip. We had the chili relleno, (pepper with cheese). I had a horchata drink and a canned Spite. The food was tasty. White nose in the back ground with the refrigerator in the dinning room was annoying but got used to it. Will come again.

4.5 Pretty good overall I’d say the asada fries was a small portion and the wait was a little long for two people but id eat here again. I like how they gave us lollipops after we paid its a nice gesture.

A lot of food! I ordered the fish taco plate. I didn't think it was very good. The tortilla fell apart and the whole thing wasn't very flavorful. The refried beans were soupy. The salsas were ok, salsa verde was my favorite of the three provided. The chips were good, greasy, crispy and thin. There was a free soup in my takeout that was awesome. The staff was pretty absent or else I would have bought a coffee too. They get stars for the value, soup and chips.
I was craving caldo de res, came here based on the reviews. Got the caldo de res, was lacking flavor, the vegetables were really hard and corn tasted old. From where I was sitting I could see the man warming up everything in the microwave so the tortillas got hard and cold quick. The service was great and the place looks decent. My spouse did like the food he ordered so maybe just the soup isn’t their best.
Ordered the enchiladas and the rice that was served with it was dry and tasted like it was sitting out for a while. Everything else on the plate was yummy. Service was good as well.
Don't get me wrong The food was good I just wish the wet burrito was more wet Plus the waitress told me that it comes with sour cream and avocado and it did not

Not sure if they are trying different methods of cooking.. the refried beans were very bland they needed some seasoning.. salt at a minimum.. chile rellenos were very soggy and greasy.. two stars for the consomme (sp). The one waitress did not come around for refills and we were the only 2 customers in the restaurant. I know the reason for this now. Mom used to love this place..
Been going here last few weeks giving it my business. I went this evening and bought one chicken burrito and one chicken quesadilla. Waitress was nice but never brought the check to our table. When we went to pay she totaled our meal up to $28.50. My brother paid but I told him the price was outrageous. Our receipt didn’t have itemized statements so I asked to see the charges. Turns out she charged us twice for the burrito and for drinks. We only had water. The waitress played dumb, said I ordered a super burrito and that the other charge was something else we didn’t get. Eventually she called a chef over to help settle the dispute. He redid the math and refunded us the $8 difference. Can’t help feel it was intentional based off how much she resisted to make it right and change what I had ordered. To say the least I’ll never be back here again. The food was fine but she was suspect and this is the second time she over charged us. Just checked the last statement from the other day because I remembered her from lunch and she charged me then same $28.50 for the same food at lunch. It’s a shame she would put the reputation of the restaurant on the line for a few measly bucks.
The steak ranchero salsa needs to be made with actual tomatoes and not canned tomato sauce also the salsa was so spicy my sinuses cleared up after my meal. The milanesa meat dish tasted flavorless, most of what we ordered had terrible spicing, I almost wanna say they get their cooking supplies from a food bank and that why it tastes so horrible. The server was so sweet.
I found a roach in my food I told the waitress she didnt apologize or said anything she just grab the plate and left .I lost my appetite afterwards Infumigate you place !!
Paid 20$ for an order of albondigas (meatball soup) and they only put 3 meatballs in it. I will never eat here again. Don't like getting skimped on my food when paying top dollar. Only a tiny bit of rice and beans too. I think they are trying to starve their customers.
Visited Mama Lupita's this morning for breakfast and unfortunately, the food was disappointing, and disgusting. My dish arrived lukewarm, the seasoning was bland, the sauce watery and the texture suggested it had been sitting out for a while. The service itself was polite, but the quality of the meal did not match the price point. I won’t be returning and can’t recommend it based on this experience. Please don’t go it is horrible.
