The best wood fired Pizza 🍕 in San Clemente. Open for take out and dine in if you call and make a reservation for the outdoor patio during COVID-19 which is awesome 👏 Super stoked! The Margarita Pizza is my personal favorite, highly recommend you try it. The wood oven bakes the pizza crust perfectly 👌
Such a cool place with great food, service and vibe. The menu has great selection for types. Shareable plates and sizes for that family style eatery's. The pizzas had 6 slices and made fresh. The service was great, and the tables were perfect. Great views from the or back. Loved the open air concept. We had a great breeze. Price wise, it's par for the area, but worth it. Parking is tough, but should be expected in downtown SC.
Stunningly delicious Italian fare in a warm, tastefully-rustic space that radiates the intimacy of the best meals together. Prior to our meal at Brick, the best pasta dish I ever enjoyed was frutti di mare in Manarola. Tonight, that dish was edged out by Chef Pratt's take on Orecchiette, full of all the rich complexity of the best ingredients prepared intentionally for the culinary symphony they played together. Our son thinks there is only one food group (pizza) and is very picky about his pies. After our meal, he informed us it was the best pizza he'd ever had ("Top 5?" "Top 1"). The other dishes were fantastic as well. The squash blossoms were perfection, and the meatballs a delight. Everyone on the line was focused on consistently executing this excellence. The front-of-house staff was just the right amount of attentive and ensured our needs were met without hesitation. Can't wait until our next visit to California for another special meal at Brick.
This is not your usual Pizza Kitchen-this is magic! Chef David and his amazing team source the best local ingredients mixed with some of the best imported grain to ensure the highest quality flavor. More than that-the team pours their love into every dish! Be sure to ask about what they are working on as they may give a sneak peak. Hands down best in South Orange County!
Me and some family members are visiting from out of town and randomly decided to eat here, as it was near our Airbnb. Everything on the menu is made fresh AND comes in generous portions. My brother & I shared the meatballs which came w/slices of the best focaccia bread I’ve ever had in my life! Highly recommend this place.
Excellent little gourmet pizza and meatball spot. Grey food. Great service. Clean. Good ambiance.
Great pizza joint worth stopping! Highly recommend the Cesar salad, margarita pizza and or the meatball calzon! The portions are generous and the food is fantastic, you will absolutely love the chared flavor of the pizza dough from the wood fire brick oven. Perfect for splitting a meal between two people. The patio is on the sidewalk and it features a couple of tables and it's perfect for eating when the weather is beautiful. Definitely a worthwhile stop!
Excellent food. Can be busy and hectic, but the quality of the food it outstanding.
Acorn squash appetizer was really good. Pizzas were excellent and the kids loved make your own pizzas. Staff was very nice and helpful. Thanks for the great food!
First of all Mark the young host was absolutely awesome, he came right over introduced himself and had the type of energy I love to see in a host. The Cesar salad was great, the main course for my husband and I was the gnocchi pork Bolognese, and It was absolutely amazing, authentic, all ingredients were very well put together. The meatball calzone my husband had was also unspeakable in other words there are no words for the wonderful taste of these two dishes. The calzone had a hint of sweet and robust at the same time. This is a must try resturaunt if you find yourself in San Clemente California. Great job guys you put your heart into this food!
Amazing food! Chef let us try one of newest creations and it was fantastic!! The meatballs are to die for and the spaghetti was awesome!! On vacation from Colorado and always make time for this gem!
Absolutely delicious. I was trying to save room for South Swell Ice Cream and that goal was not obtained (but I managed to stuff some in anyway because that stuff is delicious). This was too. The boys thought the buttermilk fried chicken was delicious, the rest of us had pizza and it was so good. I can see that I am using delicious a lot in this review but that is the only word that accurately describes this place. Really good. Walked in here vs. waiting 90 minutes at South of Nick’s after not being allowed to make a reservation for a group of 5. Isn’t that when you need a reservation the most?? Very fortunate that S of N had a long wait.
This place is amazing! They make everything in house, with rotating seasonal menu items. They have an open kitchen so you can watch them make every dish, and exceptional staff both in the back and front of the house. This place is one of my family's favorite spots, and every time I am in town we make sure to find time to go. I would personally recommend their pasta dishes (all fresh made in house), my dad loves the risotto, and my mom gushes over their ceasar salad. But honestly, you can't go wrong, we haven't met a dish there we haven't loved.
Every Sunday we do family dinner and try a new Italian/pizza place. (Which means we have been to just about every restaurant) This was by far the best! From the grilled peach pizza to the Orecchiette and homemade sausage WOW!!! Best pizza and pasta. The Gelato Trio was just incredible. I do feel badly; however, we enjoyed it so much it was 9pm before we realized it and they never rushed us yet they closed an hour prior. We look forward to making this our weekly family dinner.
Loved everything about it! The food was delish and the service was incredible! The server was so on top of refilling on our water and Diet Coke, he made our entire experience so enjoyable and relaxing! We will definitely be coming back.
Everyone in my office has been talking about how wonderful the food is here, so I finally decided to give it a try. Wow! What was I waiting for? I went with 3 girlfriends and we shared some food. The pizza was the best I've ever had. Perfect crust and just the right amount of cheese and topping. The wood fired brick oven gave it a perfect flavor. We also had some dates. OMG. Delicious. The squash blossoms and the sausage pasta were both perfect as well. Now I want to try everything. Honestly, this restaurant is way more than a pizza place although the pizza is pretty yummy! If you haven't been, you need to try it
I dined at Brick in San Clemente last week. I ordered the veggie pizza. The ingredients were fresh, the crust was thin, and the food was prepared very well. It was a great meal. My date also really enjoyed her meal. There is a great vibe to the restaurant. The food is on the higher end for the menu they are serving but if you are someone who values quality and dining experience, Brick is the place for you. Yet the main reason I am writing this review is because as I was paying for my bill, the waiter accidentally ran my debit card for the incorrect amount - the meal was $44 and he ran it was $97. I noticed this and pointed it out. The waiter, who was a professional who takes pride in his job, was extremely apologetic and voided the transaction immediately and ran my card for the correct amount. He mentioned the $97 might show up on my card as a pending transaction and just to keep an eye on it and give them a call if there are any issues. As a college student who was traveling for the summer, $97 is not an immaterial amount to have sitting on my account so I was slightly worried. I wanted to be sure it would clear off. I called the restaurant the next afternoon and explained the situation to one of the staff members working. He said their general manager would give me a call. He did and was very receptive and listened to my concerns. He said he was going to let the accountant / bookkeeper know and I would hear from him. The next morning I got a call from the bookkeeper and he explained that there was nothing they could do from their end but that it should clear off my account soon. It did two days later. I was impressed with the entire staff's responsiveness and care of their customers. I spent a mere $44 and am probably never going back there again as I am from the east coast. But they made sure to listen to my concerns and solve the problem.
Incredible service. It was our first visit and both the waiter and chef explained the menu and ingredients (fresh, local or homemade!) with enthusiasm. Food----fantastic. We had the squash blossoms, salad and pizza--all terrific. And we took home two pasta dishes for another day. This will be a favorite place.
Hi everyone! So it was my birthday, we were bumped from a reservation and other places couldn't/wouldn't accommodate...until I found Brick. when I spoke with Kolby(Colby) he said, "it's your birthday?.. I'll find room!" and he did...10 minutes later in an amazing spot out in the patio -all while adhering to any current Restaurant guidelines. fast forward to Neil our server, wonderful explanations,. caring and attentive service - they even allowed my 9 yr old to make his own pizza! couple that with absolutely amazing, tasty, fresh and light eating and we were in heaven... everyone was a bit stressed after our original plans fell through...what you all did for us will remain memorable. thank you from all of us! Oh and my goodness... Regardless of what you order, please try at least the 3 order of meatballs... OMG! Enjoy!
I went with some people from our office for lunch and loved the food. I had the Carne pizza and it was outstanding. Extremely flavorful and the thin crust was perfect. One of my fellow co-workers had a sausage pasta and let me try it - OMG - it was the best I've ever had. The atmosphere is very cool. Kind of hip but nice. Prices were extremely reasonable unless u are used to all u can eat buffets! Clearly a top place in San Clemente and all of South Orange County
We came to Brick via recommendation of a bartender from another place and it did not disappoint. We had the dates and they were a wonderful balance of sweet and savory. We also ordered the squash blossoms but unfortunately they were 86. We had a bottle of the Chefs preferred wine and the pasta dishes recommended by our server, Porter. The papperdelle was exquisite. Rich but no so much so that you couldn't continue until you'd had your fill. The orecchiete was divine. We topped off with Gelato and Cannoli for dinner and left with a little for later. Fantastic meal. Great service. Will definitely return our next time in San Clemente
This place just opened so we figured there was no way we'd get a table but tried our luck anyways. Fortunately, there were spots both inside and on the patio and we were seated immediately. The entire staff, from the hostess to the chefs couldnt have been more friendly and accommodating. When our young child wanted strawberry lemonade, they said they didn't have it but that they could figure it out. The place is new and it seems everyone is still getting the rhythm down but the staff is more than happy to keep the patrons happy in the interim. When one of our dishes was delivered to a neighboring table, they happily comp'd the dish plus gave us a free appetizer while we waited for the food to arrive. The prices weren't outrageous and the food was simple but hit the spot. Pizza tasted very fresh and healthy. If you're looking for greasy, heavy pizza, this isn't the spot. If you're looking for light, fresh, tasty pizza that hits the spot, then this is it in San Clemente.
I have been a number of times and the food just keeps getting better. I think the food critic for Orange Coast magazine had it right when she said to call this place a "pizzeria" does it a disservice. It is way beyond a pizza place. The pastas are fantastic and the salads and appetizers are to die for. Great atmosphere and is a perfect blend of nice enough for adults but kids like it too - especially the make your own pizza. Genius idea. Sure if you like some Geno's frozen pizza junk or think Dominos is the bomb, you might find The Brick too much for your liking. For the rest of us though, it is a great addition to South Orange County!
I always seem to wanna go here when friends come into town. It's unique and fun (though tends to be a little loud). Amazing meatballs for sure!! From what I understand, the owner is incredibly knowledgeable about wines (sommelier status), so that's an awesome bonus for wine lovers!
Great customer service. We were camping and hadn't made a reservation, but waitress was able to squeeze us in. Cesar salad so fresh and the pepperoni pizza with Calabria chile oil and balsamic drizzle divine. Order 2 large!!!!
this is a great restaurant they even carry a selection of imported Italian food such as risotto rice and Umbrian lentils, very gourmet. the pizza was excellent some of the best I've had in Orange county, they told me they cook it at 720° and it was not lacking cheese which I find most neapolitan pizza does. I thoroughly enjoyed it and would give the pizza a 9 out of 10. the service was just as good if not better and I give it a ten out of ten...because it's never my objective to fault people to, to critique people especially in the service industry, or to play games with online reviews I'm giving it to you straight this restaurant is worth going to period oh and don't let me forget there's Caesar salad is way more than anyone expects. Caesar sticker shock? Regardless, it is the best Caesar salad dressing I've ever had, and that is saying a lot as I'm a Caesar connoisseur. So I have to give it to them, it's actually worth the price.
Best chef in the OC, and the crew works harder than you will ever know, to bring you the best pastas, pies, and salads in the region. You may not know good food till you eat here and compare it later.. the ingredients are selected by Chef Pratt, and their flavors coaxed out for your delight. Great food philosophy and execution..
What a blast! My fiancé and I recently moved to the area. Walking by Brick we were pulled in by the inviting open layout and friendly staff. Great ambiance and comfortable seating. We’ll be back based on the entire experience. Our server, Anthony, was enthusiastic and knowledgeable. We learned about the history of a local brewery and heard about some cool aspects of the area we hadn’t known. At his recommendation we started with the pizza special for the evening; a blanco with fresh peaches and prosciutto. The dough was incredible (talented kitchen and wood fired oven did wonders) and the toppings were the perfect pairing of sweet and salty without being overly filling. It’s good we weren’t stuffed because for an entree we shared the veal ragu pappardelle. The house made pasta was a perfect al dente, and the sauce was outstanding. If we weren’t so satiated we would’ve gone for the lava cake dessert, but it’s something to look forward to for next time. Awesome spot!
Maybe the best pizza in the neighborhood. Other foods are good too. We go back many times. Love it. There are some hidden jewels like this. Topel wines is great, Sixty one hundred bread has best sourdough bread.
Local, organic farm produce along with perfectly fresh ingredients makes for a wonderful dining experience. Homemade pasta that has plenty of vegetarian friendly dishes. Friendly, efficient service. Will definitely revisit when in the area!
First ever staying in this part of the California coast. We left the resort at Capistrano Beach to venture out. After visiting the pier at San Clemente, we did some research and found this nice pizzaria nearby. My son enjoyed making his own pizza. Our pizzas were delicious and the brick oven makes a difference. The little bit of charring on the crust makes it that much better. Pricing is a little on the high side but the quality is there. Andre took care of us that afternoon and he did a great job!
Absolutely delicious food! Super fresh ingredients and quality food all across the board. Loved their pizza crust and the flavors are so good! Definitely recommend thus spot.
Best pizza in OC and I've been to almost all of em. Authentic, farm to table fresh, and for the price is very reasonable. Loved the lunch special. You can't beat that quality of food for $15.
Great inventive food menu. The bucatini, brick oven pizza & ceaser salad were over the top. Service was very good. The chef-owner even came to our table to check out our opinion of his food!
Great food, generous portions, nice beer and wine selection, killer cocktails. Server was knowledgable and attentive. Atmosphere lively and family-friendly. Pizza was the absolute best.
The food and service here are amazing! I went to Italy this year and the food was just as good if not better at Brick. The fact that it’s a locally owned business too- with locally sourced organic ingredients- is a plus 🤙🏻. My favorite is the brick meatballs with the gluten free penne. I could seriously have them everyday 😂
Friendly staff and good service considering the busy friday night. Bricks Pepperoni Pizza was really good and the meatballs were amazing. The Margherita pizza was a little overpowered by burned taste from the bottom. Totally would go back especially with a group of 6-10.
Great service, great food, a lil pricey or 5 stars
The menu was pretty unique, and the food was overall very good. Our waiter lacked personality, but was not bad. I didn't feel it was worth the price, but it was a fun change. We ordered the English pizza, the farm raised pork ravioli, and the stuffed zucchini blossoms. My wife drank the gooseberry margarita, while I enjoyed the Lost Coast Winterbraun, and would like to forget the Eel River Blonde ale.
Well it's trendy but I was a little disappointed in the pizza. On the plus side, my grand daughter loves it. Children can build their own pizza. You tell them what topings and they bring an uncooked crust and all the makings. The child then gets to put everything on the crust and send it to the kitchen where he or she might also get to put the pizza in the oven. Adequate service and land toward healthy selections.
Brick oven, great crust and inventive topping combos stand out here. The chef is always looking for local, fresh ingredients to combine into tasty pies. Great wine list, and different seating options makes this place an all time favorite.
Good food. Pizzas are good but not the best. Have had better, and have family that own 2 higher end pizzerias on the east coast, so I know pizza. The appetizers are pricey but delicious. $18.00 corkage tells you everything, and the least expensive Chardonnay was 38.00. It's easy to spend a lot of money here, so you better have it. Can get a little loud because it's a little cramped. Very nice service and servers. Overall nice place, expensive, comfortable good food, busy location
Nice little high energy place to grab some bites, could get busy during peak hours so reservation is highly recommended. Fusion kind of food, servers are very friendly. This area does not get crowded even at peak times but parking could be a challenge sometimes. Overall, highly recommended.
Pizza was ok, parts were undercooked, parts tasted burnt, too much variation, but we were one of the first pizzas made that day. Spicy watermelon margarita was refreshing. Service was great and nice patio size given the current conditions.
We found Brick before the secret was out and when the food was amazing. Recently the past 3-4 experiences we've had there have just left us very disappointed and not planning to go back. Both in the food quality (quality feels rushed and literally has been missing ingredients) to the service. I did a pick up order and they gave my food to someone else so I had to wait around for them to redo it and it was undercooked because they rushed it. No discount, no sincere apology, just here's your food, our bad. Then we had a reservation which the host told us they gave away on accident and when he went to get the manager to see what could be done, the manager comes back and straight lies to our faces saying the our table was almost done, the waiter was just about to pack up their leftovers. We watched the table and over the next 20 minutes THEY WERE JUST BRINGING THE FOOD OUT! Just straight lied to our faces and we're looking right at the table. Really disappointing because this was my wife's favorite restaurant in San Clemente, we frequented it often, and referred many people to it. Not anymore. C'mon Brick... be better, and get a better manager.
The food was really great. Had the Caesar salad and a couple of pizzas. The service was below average, we walked in and it was a few minutes before anyone even acknowledged our presence and then a few more minutes before we were seated. This is on a Wednesday night, it wasn’t that busy. The ambiance is nice but be warned this place is very loud. You cannot carry on a basic conversation because of all the sound echoing and bouncing off the walls. Some sound absorbing material would really help. Our server seemed very rushed and we saw another diner go and get menus herself. To summarize, great food, below average service and really LOUD.
Menu online is quite different than actual menu, we chose for a large group based on what was available online. Kids build your own pizzas were great, but adult pizzas were awful. Vegetable pizza was inedible, and margherita was close surprisingly bad for what should be a staple of any decent Italian restaurant
We were so excited that they added the Hanger Steak back to the menu. Food was spectacular. Service was horrible. We waited at least 20 minutes for our drinks, waitresses never smiled then entire night. She forgot our 2nd appetizer, she forgot our 2nd round of drinks.
I have nothing good to say about the service. The girl at the front door couldn't hear me for the noise in the background and then told me I had a bad line, and to call back. When I did she said she couldn't understand me and my first and only language is English! When I showed up to pick up my order, the girl then told me she couldn't make my pizza that I had ordered. She proceeded to show me the menu, to which I pointed at the pizza I wanted. She had obviously screwed up the order. When I had called, I left my phone number. She waited till I got there to tell me that she couldn't make it (the wrong one)! Furthermore I had to wait another 15mins for my order. I frustratingly come back for an overpriced meal to then asked for another 16cents on top of that! I found this to be unsatisfactory and won’t order from your establishment again. The pizza was SO bad that my 3 year old child could have done a better job making it.
As locals, we have supported this business since it opened. Originally it was one of our favorites. Through the pandemic, we ordered regularly and always recommended this place. We knew servers by name and they literally knew our orders the minute we sat down. Saturday 2/11/23 we planned a night out for Valentine's and booked reservations weeks ago with a request for our usual High Top Table - when we arrived it was busy as usual for a Saturday night. We were told the reservation (which I am pretty sure was ours) at the high top was unavailable we could wait for the next open table even though we had reservations for weeks. Then we get seated and we are told "no pizza" - wait it's a pizza place! Did they call or tell anyone who had reservations that they had no pizza? NO! It was so chaotic and unorganized and literally they did not care. We had made no other plans for dinner for our Saturday but the rudeness, the chaos, and the disregard for customer care - well sadly we walked away and probably will not return. :( Truly sad to write this negative review. We have supported this place for so long but it has turned a corner where the $$ is all that matters and the customers suffer for it.
