Opinions de Chapeau! San Francisco
Phillipe and the team were amazing hosts and treated us very well. Great food, amazing neighborhood spot
Extremely friendly and attentive staff and service. Multiple people congratulated us on our anniversary. The duck confit was amazing so was the filet mignon. Try to earl gray martini too. It's realllly good. Thanks for the great anniversary dinner!
Just a wonderful place. The chef/owner Philippe came out to visit. Our server was delighted to share recommendations. The food was fantastic. From the amuse bouche to the cassoulet and ratatouille, the French onion soup and salad. One course outdid the next. Can’t wait to return!
Superb cuisine that’s truly so authentic. Attentive service where the owners make you truly feel at home. Lovely cocktails and wine list. It’s a restaurant you leave knowing you’ll be returning back time and time again for years to come. My new obsession!
Gem in SF! it's not far from the de Young museum, so we went for dinner after we visited the museum. We ordered escargot, duck salad, filet mignon, and the french toast. They were all so good! The duck salad was really a surprise, I ordered it just because we wanted some veggies, but it was so delicious. The filet mignon was very tender, nicely medium rare. Will definitely come back to try more!
I have dined at Chapeau many times, and its safe to say this is one of the best restaurants in SF overall. The food is exquisite: presentation is fantastic, taste is immaculate, portion size perfect. The way the different flavors and textures blend together is indescribably satisfying. I highly recommend their salmon trio, it is my all time favorite. Service is beyond expectations, and the atmosphere is elegant. Chef Philippe comes out to greet diners as well.
What a lovely place. Everybody who works here is warm and friendly and smiles and loves their job and loves their customers. The superb food tops it all off. This place is wonderful.
We had our anniversary dinner here. We started with a tasty amuse bouche of tomato soup. The rolls were so good we order several more! The food and cocktails were delicious, and the owner came by to chat. Even with Covid restrictions, we had good service, and the parklet gave us good shelter from the wind.
Attentive, friendly service. Well presented and delicious food without pretense. A nice experience overall.
Chapeau is one of those rare neighborhood spots that feels like home the moment you walk in. Philippe, the owner, a friend of ours for over 20 years, greets every guest by name — and again when they leave. It’s that personal touch that keeps locals coming back. The food is classic, generous, and comforting, always prepared with care. You won’t find gimmicks here, just honest French cooking paired with good wine and a warm atmosphere. What makes this place special is the community it has built. Regulars know each other, the conversations flow easily, and you always feel welcome. Away from the busy restaurant scene, it has quietly become a favorite gathering place for those in the know. If you’re looking for authentic food, a friendly face, and a place you’ll want to return to, this is it.
We had a porterhouse steak. Large portion means enough for two of us. Absolutely amazing.
Such a great place for a fine dining in such a friendly atmosphere, always hard to leave. Philippe is an exceptional host, ruling with grace and professionalism. A gem to enjoy with a tasteful menu built to please everyone! Chapeau à vous! On vous aime 🥰
French classic food is pretty good. Excellent service and choice of wines. Surprised they have Pinot Gris and even more surprised they offer it by glass. It gets loud in here. They'll make something special for you to celebrate your special occasion.
We stopped by just for dessert. And what can I say: it was the best crème brûlée I’ve ever had. The waiter was very attentive and responsive. Definitely recommend!
We had a lovely experience in this beautiful and quaint french restaurant. We had the 3 course dinner with wine. The food was excellent. We had onion soup, fresh beet salad, mushroom risotto, duck confit, salmon and an array of delicious desserts. The duck came on a bed of cannelloni beans and it was delicious. Everything was well prepared and delicious. The main chef also met us at the end of the evening. We loved this cosy restaurant and are looking forward to going back again. The only downside was finding parking which took more time than expected.
A family atmosphere with exquisite customer service. The food was extraordinary. The first restaurant I have been to with alcohol-free cocktails. French food and the host Phillipe, oh la la. The man knows how to make patrons feel like family. If you are in San Francisco, you need to visit Chapeau! We give them an A. Phillipe coup De Chapeau!
This may be my favorite restaurant in the city (definitely top 3!). I’ve eaten here numerous times and dinner is always outstanding from beginning to end. I’m my opinion, it’s tough to find a place that delivers a 10/10 on every single course; Chapeau always delivers. This place is absolutely worth your time, it’s a magnificent dining experience!
Came in here last night for dinner. It was a Friday evening so had reserved in advance. I have so much to tell about this place so I’ll split it into three parts. 1. Service We were driving from South Bay and was easily at least 30 minutes late. When we called to inform, we were greeted so kindly and were told to not rush and that they would hold the table for us! This felt so sincere and caring, and got us in a good mood already. On arrival, we were immediately taken to our table. It was already packed, so we were surprised that they held the table for so long. During the dinner too, the service was top-notch. Each food was carefully prepared only after we were done with our appetizer. 5/5 2. Food I’m not a French food expert but the food was so good, we left feeling happy. We had escargot, mesclun salad, soup a l’oignon, and filet mignon. Everything was delicious, meat was tender and juicy and left us feeling pretty full. For dessert, we ordered their French toast. I have never had French toast as a dessert after dinner but boy am glad I didn’t miss this. The bread just melted in my mouth. 5/5 3. Ambience For the price range, you’d expect a fancier ambience. But it’s very casual. The space was small, so it felt crowded and was very noisy, just like other reviews had mentioned. There was no music, so maybe that made it worse? Not sure. Ambience gets a 3/5 But I’d still give it a 5/5 overall just because the food and the service left us feeling so happy - the way you’d feel after watching a really good movie. Would definitely be visiting this place again!
The food is delicious, the ambience is amazing, and the staff are very friendly. We just moved to SF from NYC, and if you're from back east and were a fan of Jean-Georges or Daniel Boulud, you'll love this place (and be additionally amazed at its charming neighborhood-y feel).
Amazing delicious food. Amazing kind helpful staff. Seriously the food here is absolutely amazing. It traditional rich French cooking with a nice selection of mostly French wines. The owner helped us select two lovely bottles of wine to go with our meal. Both were excellent and exactly what we’d hoped for. Everyone in my party was amazed with their meals. I personally ordered the duck salad, the steak, and the baked Alaska. All of which was fantastic.
Excellent food and service. The Chef comes out to greet his clients. Whether you call or book online the service is elegant. Bravo!👏🏼 Merci Beaucoup Chef 👍🏼
I’m going to be honest. I was feeling lazy and wanted to cancel my reservation but it was an hour before and they said that the system would charge my card so I went anyways and begrudgingly. I have lived in the area for years and never came here, even though I walk by it daily. I’m so glad I came. The food is nothing short of artistic, creative, and downright inspired. Best meal I’ve had in my SF life. This is a true French experience down to the chef coming out and shaking your hand. There are a lot of upscale rated restaurants in the area but this is the only place where I feel as though the costumer is the focus. Food is a 10 and the service matches. If you want to eat art, come here. I was blown away with the flavor.
Best French restaurant in San Francisco- An authentic, sophisticated French restaurant with absolutely savory and delicious food. Pictured are the dishes we had- Hors d'oeuvre- Trio of Salmon and Salade Landaise, both perfectly executed-the frisee was seasoned wonderfully and the Trio of Salmon was the best salmon tartare I have ever had- it included gravlax and salmon roes along with roasted capers, egg crumbles and cream fraiche. Plat Principal: Toulouse style cassoulet with duck confit and mushroom risotto, both were fantastic and cooked to perfection. Dessert: We both had the profiteroles, easily one of the tastiest desserts I have ever had, perfectly executed, not overly sweet, highly satisfying.
Excellent ingredients prepared with skill. Went for birthday dinner but was unable to talk with our two guests due to excessive noise in the restaurant (think sports bar). Certainly not intimate. Service was friendly but not on top of their game. (Who ordered the steak?) Waited more than an hour AFTER ordering our appetizers to be served an excellent salad, then an excellent steak. Will continue to search for a more intimate setting with an equal kitchen.
The landaise salad was super tasty. The wine was great. Giant piece of beuf was done right and served beautifully. The owner came and chatted and sang songs in French with my girlfriend. You can't get more French than that. The potatoes au gratin were the best I have ever had. Dare say better than my own mothers. This place has been there for 25 years almost and has gotten better consistently throughout the years.
Excellent french food at a reasonable price. Came in before 6pm and took advantage of early bird special (avail except on fri and sat). The service was friendly and the atmosphere was vibrant. The only downside is that the tables are very close together but this is *exactly* the way it is in a Parisien bistro. So authentic to the very end :-)
Wonderful, homey French bistro with some original takes. Well thought out wines by the glass. They make you feel like you've been invited to their home.
A warm, so-French bistro with great vibe and people. It started with the daily house-made baguette and soup. Appetizers looked more interesting and you could not go wrong with any of them. Our fav was the duck frisée salad - one of a kind and amazingly delicious with the chicken liver paste. The seafood in the bouillabaisse was also first-class - could taste its the sweetness. For dessert be sure to have the french toast - the best one you could have, a harmonic of caramel and hazelnuts! Thank you chef (who walked around to see how everybody’s doing and even followed us all the way to the outside and waved us off) ;)
We had an excellent time at Chateau! The food was incredible and the service was great. The restaurant is cozi and everyone is so kind and warm that you feel like your eating at your french uncle's house. Sebastian was awesome! He gave us good tips and talked about the food with so much passion that it was hard tnit to order everything in the menu. We had the duck breast that was cooked perfectly and a very nice cod. No matter how full you are don't skip on dessert, the french toast and the vanilla bean cremebrulee are to die for!
Dinner at Chapeau was a fantastic experience - probably the best meal I’ve had in San Francisco. The menu was simple but offered many French classics, and the food was delicious while avoiding the overcomplicated style you often find in French cooking. The drinks and cocktails were excellent as well; my personal favorite was the Earl Grey martini. Service was attentive without ever feeling intrusive. It just goes to show that getting the basics right makes all the difference, and it’s no surprise this restaurant has thrived for over 25 years. Long may it continue - and hats off (pun intended) to the Chapeau team!
Every single bite here was amazing. The service was wonderful. The bartender took our drink orders, the chef brought our entrees with a twinkle in his eye, the server nailed the wine pairings, and the dessert chef blew our minds with a magical take on french toast. We were so busy enjoying it we only took one photo! This place was an absolute treat and I cannot recommend it enough!
An authentic French restaurant with absolutely savory and delicious food. Pictured is the escargot (pesto looking dish), soupe a l'oignon, mushroom risotto, cassoulet, creme brulee, and the chocolate cake. The occasion was a dinner date during restaurant week and the owner kindly let me know that the prices are the same year round, which is fantastic! The French martini was also very delicious and well made. I would come back again easily
Absolute class, A1. A jewel of Clement restaurant row. What’s not to love. Order whatever catches your eye. Filet is aces. Cassoulet is aces. Cheesy potatoes are aces. Smoked old fashion is aces. That’s a lot of aces.
One of my favourite restaurants in San Francisco! The owner always greets every guest with a warm welcome. The food is beautifully presented and delicious! We had the trio of salmon, escargots, roared duck breast, bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, basil Napoleon, and profiteroles...all were amazing! They also have a great wine list and friendly service.
All I can say is.. chapeau! We had a beautiful night here, everything was perfect. The service, the food, the atmosphere, everything. The vol au vent is still in my mind almost 2 weeks later, so I have to be back. We toped the evening off with the profiterole and creme brule and wow… I still think about them too
Tried their 3 course today. Over experience is great. Definitely recommend the standard seat. When you make reservation, the standard seat goes quickly than bar table and outside tables. So if you have a choice, make the reservation for standard seat. The portion of the food is pretty generous. The Filet Mignon is recommended. Trio of salmon is also excellent. Escargot is little too small although.
I’ve been 3 times recently and it’s been great all around each time. Nice cozy, neighborhood atmosphere with great French food and friendly staff. It’s sort of entered into my top handful of restaurants I’ll regularly return to even though I don’t live in the neighborhood.
We enjoyed some very tasty food, ordering the vol-au-vent, escargot, and black cod and profiterole for desert . My husband also tried a signature cocktail made with bourbon and Aperol, which was excellent. The service was top-notch, and the staff were friendly and welcoming. The place was clean and cozy.
Loved this restaurant! Excellent service! You definitely need to try it! Every course was so worth it, our favorites the onion soup, the filet mignon and the creme brûlée, delicious! If the outdoor dining setup was a bit “nicer/romantic” it would definitely add value to this restaurant!
We went on what was an incredibly busy night with a reservation. People didn't leave things backed up. Philippe and Ellen went out of ttheir way to help us as we waited. And then the food and wine were magnificent, of course.
I think our group of 5 all agree that this was one of the top meals we’ve ever had. Our server Abdel was so interesting (in a good way) and told us about his trips to all the national parks (which we loved as outdoor lovers ourselves)! Philippe, the chef, was so personable and knew how to work the room. He told us the process of making some of the dishes and was so hospitable. Every part of our experience was fantastic!
My boyfriend and I dined here for Valentine’s Day and had an exceptional experience from start to finish. Despite the restaurant being at full capacity, we were seated promptly at the time of our reservation with virtually no wait. Upon being seated, we were warmly welcomed by the owner and an attentive, genuinely gracious staff, which immediately set a positive tone for the evening. The menu struck an impressive balance between innovation and approachability, pairing flavors in unexpected yet thoughtfully composed ways that felt both creative and refined. Each dish reflected intention and precision. The cocktails were equally impressive. Overall, it was a seamless and elevated dining experience that felt both special and effortlessly executed. We definitely will be back!
I came here for my birthday dinner Amazing prefix menu with really delicious food Service is great My favorite dish is Vol au vent Overall for me is the really good French cuisine with affordable price
Outstanding experience from start to finish. Both the filet and the cassoulet were perfectly prepared—rich, flavorful, and beautifully presented. The relaxed atmosphere made for an unhurried meal, and the staff was attentive and friendly. Highly recommend and looking forward to returning soon.
We had an awesome dinner at Chapeau! — classic French comfort food done really well, with a warm, cozy vibe and great service. We ordered the French onion soup, mesclun salad, filet mignon, and cassoulet, and everything hit. The onion soup was rich and deeply flavorful, the salad was fresh and nicely balanced, and both mains were excellent — the filet was tender and perfectly cooked, and the cassoulet was hearty, savory, and exactly what you want on a chilly SF night. We finished with the crème brûlée, which was spot-on with that perfect crackly top. The $75 prix fixe menu is a fantastic deal for the quality and portion size. Also worth calling out: the cocktails are great — the Bijou was a standout. Highly recommend for date night or a special dinner that still feels relaxed and neighborhood-friendly.
Everything we ordered was soooooo delicious. Also amazing customer service. I got the sweet bread entree and it was beyond delicious. The owner of the restaurant told us the story of how they make the sweet bread and it was so interesting! He also gave our table a free dessert. I would definitely come back here again.
Amazing food! Some of the best French food youll find anywhere! We hadsmoked salmon, vol au vent, moules frites, ratatouille, and pain perdu (best french toast in SF), and best french fries (as good as Bon Delire & Zuni, possibly)... everything was delicious
This is one of the best restaurants I have ever dined at in my life! It was such a great experience my last night in SF. Food was delicious, service was excellent. I will be sure to come again next thing I’m on the west coast.
Truly 5 star experience. Food was incredible, vibe was popping, and so charming that may of the wait staff are all family. We took my in laws who are huge New York foodies and they shared it was some of the best French food they’d had. Exceeded all expectations, will go again
Hubby took me here for a birthday dinner, really cute little place with amazing french food. It was one of the most memorable meals I had all year, maybe the most memorable. The service is top notch. I had the fish and my hubby had the steak. We topped it off with some choclate cake for desert. I can't wait to go back some day.
Chapeau is a nice French restaurant in SF with amazing food and great service. Staff was kind and very attentive on this busy night. We started with Pate En Croute, Beet Salad and Salmon Trio Tartar. Very well prepared and tasty. For the main course, Cassoulet, Branzino, and the Duck Breast which was outstanding. Washed it all down with a bottle of Pommard Rebourgeon. Too stuffed for dessert. Reservations are a must.
Second time at Chapeau, and it’s always such a great experience! I celebrated my birthday here with friends and had a larger party of 10, which they happily accommodated (so appreciative & I reached out 1.5 months in advance). Chef Philippe brings such fun energy, and I really appreciated that he checks in on guests personally. The dishes were both delicious and beautifully plated, and the team was attentive throughout. Standouts: soupe à l’oignon, filet mignon, mussels, crème brûlée
One of the great gems in San Francisco. I live in Philadelphia but I travel to SF often and I must say this is one of the best dining experiences I’ve had in your fine city. The escargot were the best I’ve had outside France, and the cassoulet is something I’ll be dreaming about on a snowy Philadelphia evening. The chef embodies the passionate, joyful, and slightly impish nature of all great French cuisine. I love this place, and I mourn that I will be 3000 miles away from its cozy confines.
More than delicious bistro food, what made Chapeau! A French Bistro truly special was the stellar service and hospitality. Run by a French expat family, they know their way around a stick of butter and how to make their guests feel welcome and special. Plus, we were a group of six with as many wine bottles and stems, in a tiny dining room. I would love to do another wine dinner there again soon. #thefoodietraveler
Great service! The place is relativity small, so it can get quite noisy. It’s amazing how many people they can fit though. We went during Restaurant Week and will definitely return! All of the staff are incredibly kind and friendly. The food is delicious and they have an amazing bar - from cocktails to wine. I tried an earl grey martini (well I tried a few 🤣) - wonderful flavor with the perfect balance.
A perfect evening! Impeccable service and exquisite cuisine. Chapeau is a tried and true French bistro with a distinctively neighborhood feeling that captures all the best things French food and culture have to offer. From the moment we stepped inside, the staff was friendly and attentive. We were there to celebrate a special occasion and they acknowledged this several times, which made it feel like they really cared. The food was incredible from start to finish, as well as the beverages. A wonderful place to celebrate, bring a date, or catch up with friends and family. We will return!
Must make a reservation if you plan on eating here. This restaurant is definitely one that can very easily be overlooked, and maybe only known by word-of-mouth, if not for yelp or Google maps. It is a small hole in the wall type of location that doesn't have its name anywhere in the face of the establishment! The food is delicious, and the service is good. That being said, I couldn't give it the five stars because as good as it was, it wasn't as impressive as it should have been at that price range... If not for the few exceptional tasting appetizers, the entree and desert were pretty basic, for that price range. I have to say that there are other restaurants that can really stand out when charging these kinds of prices, this restaurant is not one of them.
Ideally, I'd give Chapeau a 4.5/5. Chapeau offers a bright and inviting dining space with a lively atmosphere. The service, while friendly, could have been a bit more attentive, particularly during peak hours. We indulged in their four-course Restaurant Week menu, which was a delightful culinary journey. The meal began with a creamy and comforting soup, followed by a trio of salmon that was both fresh and buttery. The scallops, served as the second course, were cooked to perfection, tender and sweet. The highlight of the meal was undoubtedly the filet mignon. The meat was cooked to a perfect medium-rare, juicy and flavorful. The rich demi-glace complemented the steak beautifully. While the cassoulet was a hearty and satisfying dish, the duck was slightly dry. However, the overall flavor profile of the dish was good. For dessert, we tried the French toast and crème brûlée. The French toast was a decadent treat, with the salted caramel ice cream providing a perfect balance of sweet and salty. The crème brûlée, while delicious, was a bit too dense for our taste. The French martini was a delightful cocktail, with a taste reminiscent of Jolly Ranchers. Overall, Chapeau offers a memorable dining experience with a focus on quality ingredients and classic French cuisine. While there were a few minor hiccups in the service and one of the desserts, the overall experience was positive.
Chapeau is one of the highly recommended French restaurants in San Francisco, the locations is nothing worth mentioning since it is tucked in the middle of the Richmond residential area with absolutely no curb side appeal. The interior is quaint, clean and simple. The cooking is definitely traditional French and it has been the same for the past 20 some years, but ever now and then you will find some Asian flare mixes in there, that is mainly due to the influence of Ellen Gardelle, the wife and co-owner of Chapeau to chef Philippe Gardelle. But overall the cooking discipline follows the traditional French method to the T. You won't find any surprises here except for great quality traditional French food. My favorite is still the duck confit cassoulet. To me it is the ultimate French comfort food. I also love the wine selection here especially for the red. Great service, perfect timing on these orders but you have to know how the menu works, many of the prices that you see on the menu for the main items are actually add-ons to the Le Petit menu, but I'm sure you know that you're not going to pay just $49 for a filet mignon in San Francisco.
It is our first time here. We were looking for some place near us to have dinner together for our anniversary. I have lots to say about this place! Appetizer They are both great! We ordered Escargot and Salmon Trio for our appetizer and they both are so good! For me, personally, the escargot is a little too salty but when it paired with the bread, it was really good! And the bus boy recommended us to pair them and they taste so good together! Thank to him :)) For Salmon Trio, my husband and I agreed on that it tastes okay but not so incredibly good. Entree Halibut was soooooo good! It is the only one dish I would come back for. Fillet Mignon is somewhat salty but I don’t eat beef, so I can’t really comment on this but my husband is a meat eater and he said it wasn’t a wow for him but it was fine :) Dessert Crème brûlée is good but maybe slightly too sweet for me but I think most people would like this one :) French toast is so good!!! The toast was soft inside and crispy on the outside and it was topped with salted caramel ice cream which is so rich in cream and so tasty! Here is what I was expecting; The service Our server last night, 11/04, was not really good and we were quite disappointed. He asked the tables around us how everything was doing but he skipped our table every time, every single time. He kinda looked down on us a little too. So, it is very unpleasant and sad to see such good restaurant in our neighborhood being not as friendly as it should be like this. The hostess is great! The moment we stepped into the restaurant, we were impressed by him. He was so friendly and warm welcoming us. I forgot to take his name but he was awesome! The bus boy was actually our 5 stars last night, his name is Carlos, he is great and super awesome!!!! He was the one who recommended us to try the bread with the escargot sauce while our server didn’t really care about us. I used to work in food and beverage industry for many years and still working in customer service industry, I think Carlos should actually be our server not the other. And we decided to give good tips where we really want our tips to be for Carlos and the hostess who gave us such a great service. I just don’t think our server deserved our tips at all. So, two stars off from the service point for what I expected from our server and really came out disappointed. Those good stars were for service indeed that we received from Carlos and the hostess. Thank to both for making our night last night so great 🤗🙏🏻
Came to celebrate our anniversary here on a Sunday night. The waitstaff was super friendly and attentive, I can’t say enough good things about how great the staff was. Unfortunately the food was just ok. We order oysters and the 3 course meal. The escargot and the salmon trio were good, though nothing stood out as amazing. The fresh bread was great. The crust was so crunchy and the inside was steamy and fluffy. We paid extra for the filet, which was cooked perfectly medium rare. Unfortunately the duck confit cassoulet was dry and not very flavorful. Desserts were good but you can’t really go wrong with crème brûlée. For $65, the 3 course was definitely worth it. I would come back here again if I’m ever in the mood for French food.
I had a lovely dinner here and was able to try a nice selection of dishes to share, including their oysters, vol au vent, salmon trio, and scallop dish. I ordered the filet mignon (medium rare) for my main and a couple of crisp glasses of Cremant— just the way I like it. The service was kind, and made you feel as if you were dining among friends. For dessert, I tried their blueberry clafoutis and chocolate fondant. After the meal, I was left with more to be desired because I felt the salmon too fishy and steak too tough (especially for the $). However, it was beyond any meal I could have made!
Ok, so to be honest the food is very good. But the menu is purposely deceptive and they add items and quickly say a price so if you miss it it will be added to your bill and you'll have a nice surprise at the end. I felt like I was being taken advantage of and the experience, despite the food, was not good. If they have set menus they should have them clearly written out and then show the add ons clearly along w their prices. People are happy to splurge but when you trick it out of them, it's not a good feeling, I wont go back.
The bread was fresh and with a good crunch. Escargot was hot with lots of garlic and basil - great for bread dipping. The salmon trio looked cute but nothing special. The pork tenderloin was moist and tender. The charred cauliflower was tasty but the risotto was soft but the flavor was just ok. The French toast with caramel ice cream parred well and the chocolate lava cake with vanilla oozed out. Excellent service. The cook greeted us and the workers filled out hot water cups and wine. $35 for wine corkage fee.
Overall way under expectations, especially the two mains. Mussels in bouillabaisse were fishy, told the server and didn't get anything done; cassoulet was okay but salty. There were multiple servers but all were busy; the lady server was impatient and kept asking us if we were done with our appetizers. We spent $80+ each and were expecting something better than the service we got. Personally I wouldn't recommend it to any friend and probably won't visit again.
Oysters were good. The french onion soup was okay. The cassoulet was fine, the chicken in it was just not fresh. I was hoping the desert would end the meal on a high note, but the french toast was atrocious. The bread tasted spoiled. We also tried the creme brûlée and it was quite possibly one of the worst I’ve had. There are many better french restaurants in the city.
I came in with high expectations, but the experience left me extremely disappointed. First of all, be mindful about the 🤑TRAPS IN PRICE🤑: if you order a 3 course and add an extra entrée or appetizer, they charge whichever item is more expensive as the “extra.” And seeing a 5% SF mandate fee at checkout — with no prior mention — was infuriating. The kitchen completely ruined the meal — even after clearly stating that I cannot eat raw food and confirming I needed my filet mignon well-done, it still arrived medium-rare🥩(not even a medium!). The highly recommended cassoulet was also so salty🥵 that no one could finish it. The only good part was the service, the servers were kind and attentive even during rush hours. But great service can’t cover up for serious kitchen mistakes and the unreasonable charges.
The service is amazing! All the staff pay attention to the needs and wants of every table. They welcomed us with a tasting of a creamy chestnut soup it was delicious! The restaurant is small and the menu is limited, only 4 or 5 main dishes and even though the food tasted homely we felt the price is too high for the small portions they serve, like $38 for a vegan dish like the Ratatouille.
Came with my husband for a date night and was so disappointed. The quality was nowhere near $300 worth. I had a glass of red wine, which was fine. Not good enough to want another one. The oysters were quite fishy (husband couldn’t finish it). I thought the salmon trio was also quite fishy, and I couldn’t stomach more than 1 bite. Ratatouille was almost inedibly salty. My lamb shank was fine, but there was so much of it! It’s definitely a 2person entree! The couscous looked (and tasted) like the instant kind you get out of a box. We got the French toast and blueberry/vanilla bean desserts. The French toast was *drowning* in some brown butter sauce, it was basically a not good soup. The blueberry vanilla bean dessert looked like it was made with frozen tiny blueberries, and the flavor was enough after 1 bite. The service felt both frenetic and lacking. We never really got to know anyone, a new face was in front of us for every plate. When they asked why we didn’t finish the fish plates, I said it was too fishy, and they just said “you must not like fish!”. 🧐 no, I like fish which is why I ordered it. they didn’t comp it or offer to replace with something else. Sparkling water is $9 and they do NOT tell you that up front. Atmosphere is fine, but the white sconces are a little cold/blue hues, especially against the pale green hospital color walls. I’d prefer warmer colors. The first time we went 5-6 years ago, we were also underwhelmed. We thought we’d give it another shot, but alas. We won’t go again. It’s too bad because this could be a restaurant worth driving across town for, but it’s not. On a Friday night it’s probably 60-75% full for a reason.
Came here in a bustling Friday night in search of French cuisine. The ambiance and service were great but the food left a lot to be desired. I ordered the escargot which was so delicious and garlicky. Perfect for crusty bread to soak up the flavors. For my entree I ordered the risotto which was a huge mistake. The dish was so bland and lacked sufficient seasoning. I added salt and even that didn’t do the trick. I struggled to finish the dish and ultimately ended the meal with no third course. For $38 dollars the risotto needs work because it’s just bad and way too expensive. Don’t know if I’d return given the meal I had. Way too expensive for the lackluster meal.
