Stopped by after dropping off a friend at airport. Guacamole 🥑 was fresh with great added flavor. The shrimp 🍤 enchilada WOW. Amazing flavors that cream was over the top. The only thing I didn’t like what the too tall stools lol 😂 don’t you hate that!
Great place to bring friends, family or even a date. Most of the food and drinks my friends and I ordered were delicious. The only entree that I didn't enjoy was their fajitas, they were under seasoned and lacked flavor. Definitely have to order the calamari, that red sauce is soo good 😁. The Al Pastor torta was packed with flavor and the fried chicken nachos were different in a good and delicious way. Service was good, but keep in mind that the restaurant is on the small side so there may be a bit of a wait for larger parties. Definitely coming back again!
Nachos with beans of choice, guacamole, sour cream, Pico di.., Grilled shrimp, tomatoes, cremation, cilantro, onions, yum.
I cannot recommend this place enough! I live for Mexican food so I've tried many Mexican restaurants and this one takes the cake. The food was delicious, it was so rich in flavor. Everything we tried was really good, we were all impressed. We ate here twice during our 3-day stay in San Francisco. The staff was also very kind! We will be returning!
Chicken Fajitas (white meat) are outstanding!! And trust me on this one , I’ve been too hundreds of placing in search for good fajitas , and this one is definitely in my top 2 , try it try it. You will love it. Restaurant is located in a little funky neighbourhood, go and explore it.
This is a colorful and vibrant Mexican Cantina with Subtle French influence and an emphasis on well presented, organic Mexican dishes. Recommended if you're looking for a sit down Mexican fare that tastes upscale but has more of a local authentic vibe. A huge plus here is the friendly service, the abundant and safe parking, and the amazing food. Free chips and 3 salsas is also a bonus! I highly recommend their margaritas as well as the short rib tacos. We were blown away by the braised short rib tacos as they were absolutely perfect. It also appears that the fajitas here are worth ordering. The servers were passing these out left and right and the smell of fire grilled steak and vegetables filled the restaurant. It was really a great experience. Highly recommended if you want a casual vibe and amazing food but want something a little more inviting and healthy than your typical Bay Area taqueria.
Excellent Mexican food! Great ambience with both indoor and outdoor seating! Staff are attentive and service is super friendly. I tried their Al Pastor and Carne Asada (pork) tortas. Loved them! Food was delicious, juicy and flavorful. The portion size is great too. Definitely a great place!
I can highly recommend this restaurant. It is delicious, its taste is exquisite, the portions are large and at a very good price. The experience is unique and the service is always very friendly. I recommend the super burrito with. Carnitas and Elote is incredibly delicious.
Heard a lot of good reviews prior to dining here and it was certainly worth the hype! Amazing food with a cozy setting. The sangria is also a must!!!
Just sat down. First time eating here for lunch. Very happy with the space so far! The staff is very polite and welcoming. I’ll update about the food. . . Okay, Food update: it’s fantastic! Very tasty bites. I got a Shrimp platter that was really good. I was surprised at all the flavors. My colleague had cheese enchiladas that looked great, and he said it was wow. Enjoy this place! Cheers.
Enjoyed the vegetarian options. The quesadillas were one of the best I've ever had, and were loaded with veggies. The enchiladas and queso fundido were also good. I got the enchiladas with both red and green salsa but I liked the green more. The portions are quite large and those three items is excess for 2.
The red pozole was so tasty! Definitely worth trying!
Excellent Mexican food. They start you with three salsas and chips, which are delicious. I had a carnitas super burrito, also very good. Friendly staff and a very attractive interior. They have a full bar as well. Definitely the place to for Mexican classics if you're on the north side of Protrero Hill.
The food was excellent! We got 2 burritos & they were very flavorful we will be returning & i highly recommend! You will not be disappointed
Give this place a try. I loved the atmosphere. It was dimly lit inside, and there was outside seating too. The servers were very friendly, and attentive. The duck meat torta I had was amazing, my wife didn't like the grilled chicken wet burrito she ordered, it I thought it was really good. I recommended her to get a chicken torta to go, and she loved that. My son also got a beef torta which he loved too. Try the torta, you won't be disappointed.
What else can one day that hasn't already been said. The Steak frites is amazing as well as some of the best French onion soup you will find!We ate inside and the seating was a bit snug but not overly annoying. Always a treat to eat here.
I've been to Chez Maman many times and have always enjoyed the food and atmosphere. Yesterday evening was no different. I had a perfectly cooked and wonderful pork chop in the most amazing sauce. I ate so much bread just to get as much as possible. Highly recommend for anytime but protip is to go for lunch and avoid the dinner crowd!
We came here around 7:30pm on a Sunday in December, and sat outside under the headlamps on the covered sidewalk. I was warm enough o remove my jacket. We were waited on promptly, and opted for the absolutely amazing French onion soup--- this is a must. And I mention it first because it was our favorite. We both ordered the $20 burgers, a steal of a deal; it will fill you up! She got the salmon burger with side salad (which was huge), and I got the beef burger with the $3 cheese add on and fries. Both can on ciabatta rolls. I like that the burger came with a side of greens and caramelized onions to put on it if you like. I asked for a side of mustard, and that was tasty on the burger. The aioli is strong on the garlic, so if you enjoy that taste you'll love a side of that to dip your fries in. All in all an enjoyable dinner. Not my favorite burger but pretty darn good! Love the small crispy fries. Ambiance is cozy.
Chez Maman East is a small space filed with Potrero regulars who dine here multiple times a week. The French onion soup is the dish most people talk about, with a cheese cap that melts into long, stringy pulls that stay intact all the way to the last spoonful. The rest of the menu runs through the usual bistro plates, and the bar seats give you the best view and the quickest service.
Can't wait to stop by there again! Definitely on my list to visit. The atmosphere, the FOOD! I RECOMMEND IT. Had to order escargots twice, one order was not enough. Stake was good. Caesar salad was really good! Bailey soup was so good I took two more orders home.
I stopped by on my trip to SF and it did not disappoint! My server Roberto provided excellent customer service. I tried the escargot, mussels in white wine, potatoes au gratin, affagato, white wine and chocolate cake. Everything was so flavorful and you can really taste the fresh quality ingredients. This place also has a great view of the city.
Came here and had a wonderful time. Staff is super warm and welcoming. Started with the French onion soup which was great, I love the textures between the crisp bread and crispy, stretchy cheese. I got the roast chicken which was delicious, crispy skin and pretty moist. I think the breast part was slightly dry on the inside but the leg was super juicy and tender. The sauce on the chicken was really incredible. The chicken plate is definitely a lot of food for one person. Will definitely be back for this neighborhood staple!
I got the Angus Beef Burger, medium rare, with the salad side. The portions were generous, the food was seasoned perfectly, and the bread was so good it tasted amazing even with just the salad! It was perfectly value for money, with the Beef Burger going for just $20! Would definitely come back again to try their other items!
Excellent fresh mussels. Piping hot French fries with aioli was great. Loved the crispy pan fried branzino. Felt like we had a balanced meal with an ahi tuna salad. But it didn't help my waist to end the meal with tasty chestnut crepe dessert. Wish there was a little more chestnut flavor.
A living French dream restaurant in San Francisco. The brass counter and the menu brings you back to France in one second. Not only are the food options classic, but also the wine selections endures the test from the connoisseur. The escargot, the veal, the duck, the mussels, the sandwiches. All delicious. Great service and team as well. Family friendly. The dessert menu and their special sorbet menu is unique. Flavors like peach champagne, apricot, pomegranate are rare to find.
Chez Maman East, was the perfect spot for an early dinner on a gray drizzly Sunday. We sat outdoors on their covered patio and stayed plenty warm while we could smell the fresh rain in the air. The weight staff was accommodating and patient as we decided on our orders and brought extra plates since we split entrees. The food came out quickly and everything was as expected. I was once recommended the burger back in 2012 and it's taken me until 2025 to try it and it didn't disappoint! The fries are also delicious and crispy on the outside with fluffy potato on the inside so I would recommend trying that out. Overall it was a very rich and filling meal with the perfect atmosphere to catch up with friends. If your driving be prepared to find street parking in the neighborhood. In my case it was easy to find parking on the same block. Bonus points, our waiter had beautiful penmanship that he left a note on our receipt.
This lunch will be one of the highlights of my SF trip. Everything was executed to perfection and the presentation of each plate was beautiful. We started with the Marinière mussels, ordered the branzino (my favorite), 1/2 chicken, and Warm Chocolate Fondant and Crème Brule. The service was great as well, everyone was very kind, friendly, and attentive. We loved every single minute of this dining experience and can’t wait to go back to try to more dishes.

Papito in San Francisco is a cozy, welcoming spot with a menu that balances flavor, freshness, and creativity. The overall service was attentive and friendly, making the dining experience smooth from start to finish. The staff checked in often enough to make sure everything was good, but without being overbearing, which always makes a difference. When it comes to the food, everything we tried was impressive. I had the Vegetariano, which was hearty, flavorful, and satisfying without being too heavy — a great choice for anyone looking for a tasty meat-free option. The chicken tacos were another favorite, perfectly seasoned and well-portioned, not greasy or overloaded with toppings. Their quesadillas stood out as well: they had the right amount of cheese and filling, balanced and not overly stuffed, which kept them delicious without feeling overwhelming. The drinks complemented the food perfectly. The spicy mango drink had just the right kick of heat to balance the sweetness, making it super refreshing and unique. Along with a few beers, the overall mix kept the meal fun and flavorful. Papito does a great job of keeping things authentic yet approachable, offering a dining experience that feels both elevated and casual. Between the good service, satisfying food, and unique drink options, it’s definitely a spot worth revisiting when craving Mexican food in the city
I came here with a friend with no reservation and got seated right away! Food here has a real Good: - Great customer service - lots of smiles for us and lots of great checking from the staff on how we were doing - The enchiladas were huge and were decent - I got the mole and chicken one - chicken was a little dry Bad: - Food was alright - wasn't the best I've ever had - Really casual diner feel Overall enjoyed the meal, the portion sizes were great and I enjoyed the experience.
Had a team lunch here Cool hole in the wall type, neighborhood restaurant Limited street parking Good size dining room Full bar Attentive staff Great decor Good menu to look thru When you walk in, you this hang out vibe...then you look left and see this large bar and you're like, time to hang out. Lol Foodwise, mite not be what you really want to eat as compared to where you usually go for mexican food but at the same time there is a lot to choose from their menu....and their presentation and food portions will totally make you a fan...and to top it off, it tastes good!
If you want a nice neighborhood bistro, it's hard to go wrong with either Chez Maman. I had a very passable Eggs Benedict with a side salad (included), an old school cappuccino (with cocoa powder sprinkled on top) followed by an Americano. If you need a little sunshine, always head over to the Portrero location.
Lunch of steak and frites. The steak was good, lots of good flavor. Peppercorn sauce was on the watery side, should've been thicker. The aioli had slight taste of garlic. French fries were subpar, they didn't taste fresh. Ice tea was good. Service was excellent. If I went back I would get a burger and a salad, skip the fries. The atmosphere is very nice. Definitely worth a try for lunch.
Love this neighborhood Gem, Chez Maman East along with its sister restaurant Chez Maman West in Hayes Valley. I usually get a burger or roast chicken but opted for their Nicoise Salad. A generous bowl Filled with fresh crisp greens, green beans,, tomatoes, potatoes, eggs and topped with 3 slabs of ahi tuna. A light vinaigrette along with an olive tapenade ties the salad together. Solid! We finished with dessert, Pain Perdu is like a cross between bread pudding and French toast, and apple tart., warm, flaky covered with ice cream. Service was friendly and efficient. We were there early since we were going to the Valkyrie’s game, an easy walk DOWN to Chase Center, we avoided the crowd that started filling the place as we were leaving. This is French comfort food, in a cute setting. It gets crowed and noisy which adds to the ambience!
Be prepared for a wait—there’s often a long line, but it’s absolutely worth it. The food was fantastic overall. The escargot is a must-try: rich, garlicky, and perfectly cooked. The sole was incredibly tender and flavorful—definitely a highlight. The French onion soup, while comforting, was a bit too salty for my taste. I also tried the crepe, which had a great texture and was well-executed, though slightly salty as well. Despite that, everything was delicious and full of character. Would return!

French style Restaurant in Potrero Hills with a good atmoshere. We had the mussels and shared the baked camenbert and the fries. The food was really good, but for a lunch a bit overprized.
Packed restaurant, really lovely. Good food and service. We had a ceaser salad, spaghetti carbona and a hamburger, all were great. A crepe with chocolate for dessert. Very enjoyable.

We did take out and everything was soggy. Quesadillas re-crisping efforts in a frying pan worked ok, “crunchy” tacos could not be salvaged. And queso fundido was like eating solid cheese, looks and tastes nothing like fundido should. I think that item was the most disappointing.

This is unbelievalble - in short the worst Mexican food I ever had in SF (and probably anywhere). I have never written a 1* review beofore. 1) despite almost an hour time between when I put my order in and it not being an 'asap' order but timed - I got there 7 min late becasue parking was hard and the food was not ready - it was another 10 min wait 2) I only live about 5 min away and at home the food was barely warm (so probably it had been sitting there for whatever reason) - also the taco's were very soggy 3) what's up with the pineapple? it's in everything 4) the food (tacos pastor, tacos carnitas) had very little flavor, the quesadillas carnitas was also super soggy. The tacos papa con chorizo was ok. Never again!
