Fantastic restaurant. We came here for our anniversary and the food was superb. Their French onion soup was sublime. The crab avocado salad was delicious. Their Opera cake even had some gold flakes! We can't recommend this place enough
Looking for a local romantic dinner for our anniversary, we got lucky. Chou Chou hit the spot with white tablecloth like in a French bistro, great onion soup, steak frite and moules our favorites and duck confit Wellington that was new to us. Decent wine and the prix fixe is a great deal. Service was pleasant and made sure we celebrated with a gifted dessert wine. Nice touch We will return there.
Lobster ravioli was amazing. Deviled eggs appetizer is a must! Service above all was great. I found a piece of plastic in my food and was compensated with a creme brulee in top of the entree being taken off the tab. The chef came out himself to apologize for the accident. Very nice atmosphere, quiet and peaceful. Menu is not so long which keeps it conveniently simple to make decisions. Staff is very friendly.
Went here on a dinner and was very impressed with this place. They had a great menu full of options. I ordered from the pre-fix menu and was highly impressed. Great for a date night! Highly recommend making reservations!
Great French spot with all the classics and nice but not over the top white tablecloth service. Expect to have a great-tasting comfort meal with a strong wine selection in a relaxed atmosphere. I didn’t realize coming into this that doing the pre fixe menu is required, so that was a bit of a surprise but worth it in the end. Good for a splurgey night out or a non-stuffy special occasion / celebration / date night.
Excellent neighborhood French bistro. There I said it in a mouthful! Surprising find with excellent food and friendly service. The dishes are classically French, with rich sauces and complex flavors. Servings are generous. They have a year round "SF Restaurant week menu" which is a great deal. Modest wine selection but good range and pairs well.
We were recommended this place by our Airbnb hosts. It did not disappoint. Appetizers: mushroom ravioli and French onion soup. Both delicious. Meals: Lamb for me, filet mignon for him. Side of green beans were ordered because we didn’t realize the entree came with sides (menu said but we assumed). Exquisite, all of it. Only critique is lamb had a bit too much reduction on it. Wish it had come in a little pour like the peppercorn sauce for the filet mignon. Husband raved about the sauce for the filet. Said it was on Point and rivaled all he had before. Dessert: tiramisu to go. Creme brulee for the table... amazing. Wine: château Grand Marchand, Bordeaux 2018. Rated an 89; we finished the bottle. Everything came out at the right time, paired well together, and was tasty. This was easily the best meal we had during our 4 day stay in San Francisco. Will come back on return visits. Forgot to take a pic of the other items! They were gorgeous!
Marina our waitress was excellent, great service. Food was very good. Their $25 Lunch special is a good three course deal. We really appreciate their parking lot. But. The parking lot drive way is easy to miss...drive slowly to find it..

French food normally don't disappoint and the experience at Chow Chow was definitely a great one. If you like French food, I recommend you try this place. Staff was really nice and attentious. We did not have to wait to be seated. Bread was great, remembering me of European places, as a good European, I really appreciate to start of with warm bread and butter. All the food was nice: onion soup, mushroom soup, angus beef steak, shrimp pasta, apple pie. The wines are good and we even had some dessert wine. The space is quite cute. We did not try the escargot and the duck but will be for next time. We will be definitely coming back!
went to dinner with friends and had a great meal! Lamb was delicious and the deserts were fantastic. will return to try more of the menu
We went to Chou Chou a few days ago to celebrate a birthday and had a wonderful experience. The service was excellent! our servers were so kind and attentive throughout the evening. The food was great, and the prix fixe menu was a great value. Highlights at our table included the escargot (so delicious that some of us were dipping bread into the sauce afterward), the clam chowder, the mussels, the filet, and the salmon.

This is such a great restaurant in San Francisco. Chou Chou is a cozy family restaurant with really elegant decor that makes it feel special. The service is incredibly friendly and welcoming from the moment you walk in. The French food here is excellent. I loved the Lamb Rack the most because the flavor was amazing and it came with the best mashed potatoes. The Boeuf Bourguignon was also a winner since the short rib beef was so tender. Everything we ordered was honestly good. Parking Note: Just a heads up that their parking lot is for Metro customers only. You will need to find a spot on the street so keep that in mind when you are heading over. Definitely worth a visit if you want a warm atmosphere and great food.
Classic San Francisco restaurant in a not so typical neighborhood. It's nice to eat at a fine establishment without having to deal with downtown issues. Noisy? No. Hard to find parking? No. Downtown filth? No. Feel safe and comfortable in the neighborhood? YES. My wife made reservations for a ten person party for my son's 17th and my daughter's 21st birthday. We ordered a variety of food from the prefix menu. Everyone was pleased which is not always easy. I had the short ribs and it was fabulous. The only problem was when they brought out the birthday dessert for my son, they forgot to bring one out to my daughter. It was nice that they sang and everything but my son felt embarrassed and my daughter, I was like, "don't worry about it". Mistakes happen. We didn't make a fuss. Overall, we were pleased with the evening.
Came for restaurant week. It's a great deal for a starter, entree and dessert. The starters (escargot and soup) were fantastic. The mains don't stand out much. Dessert again was great and a generous portion. Service was great, the waiters were very attentive.
The restaurant is nice and romantic. I liked the outdoor option since it has heat lamps and the top is covered. Very cozy. The staff is nice and the chef checked in on us several times. I had the rack of lamb. Flavor was good, but a little salty. Brussel sprouts was good. Ravioli was delicious. I also liked the shrimp and risotto dish as well. Desserts were good too, but the souffle was more of a chocolate molten cake.
Terrific dinner with my Mom: had the bone marrow, lamb wellington, mushroom ravioli was perfect, crème brûlée and mango panna cota were divine. ****The lamb riblets was excessively salty though. Service was wonderful. Shout out to Dysha- very nice, friendly and helped recommend which dishes were great. Will visit again, from East bay!!!!
Delicious French food in a recently renovated space. My onion soup and boeuf bourguignon were excellent and the other starters and entrees were very good. The desserts were a not as great, mostly not very French and a underwhelming, though the creme brulee was the exception. The new decor is very good and feels as sophisticated as the food. Service was a little slow, but very friendly and informed. Overall a great neighborhood treasure.

Neighbourhood French bistro serving typical French dishes. The place is small, clean and simple, however, parking is difficult. The one server was accommodating and friendly and managed all the occupied tables on his own. The food was quite tasty, especially the mushroom soufflé.
The atmosphere and decorations are super contemporary giving you a great vibe . However, the service from the waitress was very poor. Once my partner and I got inside they looked at us from toes to head and we were wearing formal casual clothes. The waitress messed up three times bringing the wrong plates to our table and they ignored that we need more water ( refill), they saw our empty plates and keep ignoring them. The food was not the best. I ordered ribs with mash potatoes and the flavor for both were very plain and even the presentation of the plate was horrible .My partner ordered the lamb ( the meat was ok), but the side dish had no flavor at all. Lastly, the desserts were decorated nicely, but super sweet . We only ate ate the tiramisu and left the tuxedo chocolate. I think they changed the owner and chefs because the food was delicious before. In other words, it was a sad experience since I brought my partner to celebrate Father’s Day.

This place has good food, great service BUT they really missed on the ambiance. The lighting in the room is super bright and cold. It makes you feel Like Your eating your in a hospital. We almost did not enter. Dimmers and warmer colored light bulbs would make all the difference. Also, the background music wants to be a bit louder. You can literally hear every conversation around you.

I don't take low ratings lightly. This was one of the worst food experiences I've ever had We ordered escargot, French onion soup, lobster ravioli, rack of lamb, chocolate ganache cake, creme brulee, and Shirley Temples to drink. All told spending $150. The escargot was terrible. Just a squishy mess floating in garlic and olive oil I've had better frozen French onion soup Lobster ravioli wasn't notable, 4/10 because the sauce was overpowering in a bad way. The lamb rack was cooked properly but it and the veggies it came with had virtually no flavor at all, like a Denny's steak. Chocolate ganache cake was pretty good, warm, rich and delightful after such disappointment. The Creme brulee was also good. I would say about a 6/10. Overall definitely not worth the money and we will not be returning
