I am visiting SFO and reserved a table for afternoon teas to celebrate a special occasion. I have been to many places for afternoon teas in different states, but this place is the best because all had very delicate combinations of flavors. Some items had Asian twists such as Yuzu ginger scone and hojicha chocolate cream cup, which signified diversity in this beautiful city. I give A++ or 12 out of 10. Highly recommended!!!
What an amazing place for a peaceful and elegant break in the heart of San Francisco! Pauline and Keith are wonderful hosts and made me feel so welcomed! Seasonal menu, fresh pastries, thoughtful tea pairing suggestions, beautiful music (jazz and French), lovely decor, Dartealing has it all! We talked with Pauline about our love of tea and shared experiences and tips in the very niche business that is tea tasting. Tearooms like this are rare in the US and you cannot find a better tea tasting experience in SF! The freshly made food is absolutely incredible, pricing is extremely reasonable and it is cosy and intimate, a true “salon de thé”. Yes, I did visit the Garden Court, and while the decor is grandiose, the tea tasting experience was overpriced and food/tea very unimpressive. I had booked a Rotonda high tea experience at Neiman Marcus and I actually canceled it when I checked the place a day before as it was so noisy and impersonal… As a passionate tea taster travelling the world, my preference is for authentic, cosy, intimate tearooms experiences, so thank you Keith and Pauline, you created a beautiful memory in San Francisco for me!
Really lovely afternoon tea service. The interior is cozy and welcoming; a place that doesn't shy away from a little self expression and whimsy. The service was incredibly friendly and knowledgeable. It's clearly a small creative team working on something they love. When the tea tray came out, it was absolutely bursting with delicious food; savory finger sandwiches, scones still slightly warm from the oven, and teas that were perfectly paired with the meal. I will definitely be back soon and cant wait to recommend Dartealing Lounge to my friends.
Went here over the weekend for the afternoon tea and it was a fantastic experience. The tea house is delightful and filled with teapots and cups that are pretty and mismatched while still being coordinated. The tea menu was asian inspired and changes quarterly. It was all delicious with the kimchi fritters and potato croquette sandwiches as surprising standouts. The scone was the best I've ever had with pieces that melted in my mouth into buttery goodness. The rose lychee macaron had a perfect flavor balance and finished the wonderful tea tray of food perfectly. The recommended tea pairings were spot on and they were able to make additional recommendations as well. If you want a great afternoon tea experience you can't go wrong here.
I brought my 13 year old granddaughter here for her first proper Tea. We had wonderful service, a vegan meal was prepared for me and a typical meal was made for her. Everything was very tasty. My granddaughter loved the food so much she ate it all in a matter of minutes! She loved the hole experience, an so did I. We recommend this tea room for your future tea event!
Visited 4/28 before a Giants game. This place made the whole street corner smell good as we waited for the doors to open. Their reservation process sounds more complicated than it was. Once I filled out the form on their website, the rest was done via text and my reservation was confirmed within minutes. Service was awesome! It's a prix fixe menu so you just need to tell them the tea that you'd like. I opted to pay an extra $5.25 to have their memories of Saigon blooming tea. It comes in a glass tea pot and opens as it sits in the water. Tea was good but the blooming part (really slow bloom) sounded cooler than it actually was so I'll stick to one of the cheaper teas next time. Warm scones and cream were my favorite part! They don't have a parking lot but metered street parking on Stillman St was super easy to find. It's limited to an hour though. Our tea time visit was an hour and 15 min.
What a fun and endearing place to go, and a must see for anyone visiting the Bay area. I was so impressed by the quality and flavor profiles of the food they served with the yummy teas. There were so many great varieties of teas to choose from to fit the unique experience you want to have. I will definitely come back to this place and bring other people so they can enjoy the experience with me.
Came here with a friend Saturday 1pm. The place was very full. Reservation was recommended but they let us walk-in. (Thank you! Great atmosphere. Service is good. Attentive but not too much. Food is good. Savory bites were somewhat creative. Sweet items were good too. My favorite was the matcha tart. The tea was average though. Overall good for its price. I could see this place perfect for a team building lunch/afternoon tea.
Amazing afternoon tea experience. All of the food was very tasty. The scone was awesome and lots of different savories. They are very accommodating for vegetarians. The tea selection is wonderful, as well. I highly recommend for any tea lovers!!
Amazing experience! I'm a big fan of tea like this. I don't live in the SF area so this was my first time here. This is an independent tea house, not a tea in a luxury hotel like I was used to. The quality of the tea and snacks was comparable with the big fancy hotel I usually go to in my area, but at a fraction of the price. There was a huge selection of teas and they give you a lot. The tower in this pic is for 4 people and it was plenty, we even had leftovers. The pots are one per person. It was street parking only and in an area with a sports stadium so keep in mind when making a reservation the area could be crowded due to a game. We did find parking a few blocks away.
Really great value tea set! Under 40$ a person with plenty to eat. Their scones are really delicious, great texture, and the sandwiches are also really good. The space is cute and well-decorated, and the tea tastes great too. Would definitely recommend for a girl’s day out!
I went here for my birthday celebration with my husband and daughter. I already cannot wait to go back. Our reserved table was cozy and the teas were delicious. The chef came out and brought us the sandwiches and desserts and gave us details on all the items she made and added a birthday candle to make it extra special. My favorite tea that I tried was Her Majesty’s Secret Service.
This place is oh so cute! They take reservations via email and they have vegan options as well. The servers were oh so accomodating and the sandwiches were the best I've ever had! Also definitely definitely definitely take a look at their tea menu, it is fabulously creative, which is pretty obvious from their wonderful name. As a fan of vanilla rooibos teas I got the mother of dragons and it was like the tea was named for me. Would definitely go again !
Dartealing has a great selection of teas. Sandwiches were really good. I liked the honey and lavender cream sandwich. It had a delicate flavor and was delicious. Visited this place with a group of friends. We ordered different types of tea and spent a couple of hours. It's a nice place to spend a Saturday/Sunday afternoon with friends and family.
High quality afternoon tea at an affordable price in the city! I submitted a reservation inquiry for my friend and I the weekend before and they were able to accommodate an 11am seating the following Saturday. The place is a little hidden as I don't recall seeing any signage outside but has such an inviting and cosy atmosphere inside. My friend and I selected Debutante Ball,a jasmine green tea, and Place de la Sorbonne, a fruity black tea. Cannot recommend Place de la Sorbonne enough! The tea set comes with 4 types of sandwiches, which were ham gouda and honey mustard, bacon jam and picnic potato salad, fresh cucumber and herb, and brie fig chutney and apple, an English sausage roll, a meatball, a scone, and a selection of desserts, which includes a small raspberry crumble, petit four, and a macaron. The highlights for me were the ham and honey mustard sandwich, sausage roll, scone, and the raspberry crumble. My only critique is I prefer when there are an equal number of desserts for everyone rather than having only 1 item (macaron and petit four) and trying to split between 2 people. Will definitely be back!
It's a very cute afternoon tea place, and it's one of my favorite ones in the Bay Area. The price range is a bit lower than other ones I've gone to, but overall not too bad. You can order on add ons if you want more food, like more savory items or sweets too. I would recommend to reserve a table rather than walking.
It is amazing how delicious this food was and how complex the teas tasted. It is highly recommended to make a reservation first, but after waiting they allowed us to walk-in. Atmosphere cannot get better. I only have two suggestions: There is one waitress that doesn’t smile at all and speaks quietly, so service could be better. Our table had crumbs as if it was not totally cleaned. Highly recommended.
The Owners and staff are very knowledgeable about tea. They easily crafted an experience that you will remember for a life time with their approach, sandwiches, snacks, and tea selections. I'm living in Arizona and plan to order tea to support and be sure to return when I'm in the area. Thanks Keith and everyone at Dartealing. You're all awesome.

Tremendous selection of teas. My son doesn't like tea so he had hot chocolate "best ever" he said. The food was quite right - you get to select from about twenty adventurous varieties. For next time we will try the "fish and chips" because we overheard others raving about it. The pastries were beautiful, the scones were nice - only critique would be that they should have jam as well as cream with them. But overall a very nice time that I and my kids really enjoyed as a nice break from the hurly-burly of city life.
There should be more places like Dartealing! They are always my first stop anytime I'm in San Francisco. Even throughout the pandemic they've switched to pick ups and its still phenomenal! Everything is delicious and they always accommodate my food sensitivities.
We came for Valentine’s Day and had an absolutely wonderful time. The space is charming, intimate, and cozy, with a touch of British décor that creates the perfect tea time atmosphere. The menu had just been updated in honor of the Lunar New Year, offering a mix of flavors you don’t usually associate with tea time, and it was a delightful surprise. We had a lovely conversation with the owner, who explained that the menu changes regularly, sometimes returning to more classic selections, which gives us every reason to come back and try more. The service was excellent and the team was incredibly kind and welcoming. French visitors will appreciate small touches like the “Place de la Sorbonne” tea. The owner lived in France and thoughtfully incorporated hints of that experience into the menu and tea blends. You can truly feel the care, heart, and creativity behind the baking and the overall concept. We highly recommend it to anyone looking for a unique and memorable tea time experience!
This place had amazing food - themed for the Lunar New Year - that was so delicious and filling. Scones were yummy and the tea was lovely. Came with two friends & they were kind to accommodate the vegetarian with a swap of the sausage savory item which she loved. Would recommend and come again!
