Quite delicious curry and katsu! Ordering takeout at the window is easy, and the portions are large and price is reasonable. The katsu was crispy and not dry, and the curry was flavourful with medium spice being a good level
[Take out only] Muracci’s curry is legendary! Oddly enough, this my first time eating their katsu curry! Fried katsu (pork) cooked upon order with choice of white or brown rice. The main comes with accompanying cabbage which is pickled (yum) and there is the traditional red pickles too. The katsu is the key point though, right? Crispy, with the finest panko type coating. Delicious! The pork is flavorful and quite a thick cutlet. Satisfying the most voracious appetite, this dish really hits the spot! This shop is the only one in the city. Their other outpost is a sit down restaurant in Berkeley. I say go here and get curry anything. In fact, with a good sauce like this I’d happily eat rice & curry sauce alone. A plus: Muracci’s lets you choose the level of hotness of the curry sauce. I like that!
Delicious katsu curry! The hot is actually pretty spicy for Japanese curry too. The guy taking orders was super friendly even while being busy. It’s small with just a few tables outside so have a backup place in mind to take your food just in case.
Ever since I had Japanese curry in Kyoto I've been on a quest to find the best Japanese curry stateside. This is top 3. Actually top 2 because as I'm writing this I can't think of a third one that's memorable. The Karaage Curry is the BEST. Of course the Katsu Pork is solid (and it's THICC). The Katsu Salmon one is also pretty good, but it was cooked a little too much/high temp. But I fish is hard and it was still better than many katsu pork cutlets I've had. Anyway. Give it a chance. Or two in my case. P.S. the krokke/croquettes 🤌🏽 **Update 2 years later** Still 🔥 That is all.
Fantastic Japanese curry. This small "hole in the wall" type restaurant is quite tasty. I took my father visiting from out of town, who lived in Japan for 2 years and he loved it. We had the chicken and beef curry, but the kastsu looked even more delicious if you like your chicken or pork fried. Worth it.
The chicken Kaarage is really worth for the price, amount of food and flavour of the food + the sauces. Got the pork katsu but spicy and I think that’s why I didn’t like it. Will definitely come back to try it but mild instead. Feel that the katsu is slightly overpriced but not terrible. Also the bag is 25 cents which we didn’t need as we went down the street to eat at the bubble tea shop.
Veggie udon was a delicious and hearty way to warm me up on this cold winter day. Noodles had perfect al dente resistance, vegetarian curry was mildly spicy (as ordered), had a lightly creamy texture (starchy, not dairy) and the tofu was fresh and silky instead of fried (my preference). I only needed half the curry on the noodles so will save rest for home use. Notes: Takeout only but open til 7pm Yellow curry will stain so use your napkins strategically! To the Veggie Freaks like me: I would like if there were more veggies but that’s how I feel about most dishes like this anywhere. If I take home, I typically supplement with my own veggies.
Great curry place downtown. Big portions and really tasty. The chicken katsu is delicious. No indoor seating, so be prepared to get your food to go.
I love this place. The battering here is amazing. Chicken, pork, or shrimp are all fantastic choices. Have also had their beef option and the croquettes as well. The owners are amazing and staff is really friendly. I usually get the curry, extra spicy with cheese. Don't knock it until you try it!!!
Delicious curry and easy to go ordering at the window. Ordered the hot curry which was spicier than I expected, not complaining though I liked it. Pickled veggies were a nice touch as well.
Came in around 12:30noon on a friday, no problems with seat availability. I ordered using the self-service kiosk and had no problems using it. Food was great, i had borscht (24oz) and pan-fried beef gouda dumplings (20pcs). Especially nice on a chilly day Service was good, food was served to me and the server was pleasant. Atmosphere was great, good place for having a chat with 2-4 people. Music was light but not obtrusive.
I have been searching for the Napoeon cake in my childhood memmory forever and Leleka is the best I have had in the states! so creamy and fluffy, delightfuly sweet but not overwhleming❤️ The honey cake and Kyiv cake are great too! I can't describe in words but the honey and nutty flavor in them are so rich love the mint seasoning in lamb dumpling (orange ones) and the gouda in the beef dumpling. I brough frozen dumplings for my mom.
Uh…wow! One of the best meals I have eaten. Ordered chicken dumplings in chicken broth covered with caramelized onions. Well balanced flavors like just enough fat, salt, sweet, onion but not too much of any of them to overpower the others. The dumplings are plentiful and exquisite. High quality ingredients. Tender and textured. Truly am impressed. Going back again later this week.
OMG 😱😱😱 I'm very picky about the cleanliness of restaurants and this place is one of the best in the SF! The service and food are top notch ❤️❤️❤️ The attention to detail is immediately noticeable: it's convenient to order (nobody pressures you), the food is served very quickly and I was especially surprised by the size of coffee 😁 The dessert contains a minimum of sugar, which is really cool! Highly recommend! 10 of 10
Tasty, well-priced food that came out super fast! I love pelmeni and varenyky so I was excited to try Leleka. We got lamb , potato, borscht, pickles, one of their pies (bacon cheese maybe?), a beer and a glass of wine. Everything was nice, and it's one of the cheapest meals I've had in SF. I also really liked the onions for the dumplings. We got butter too and there were a few other options too !
I had never had Ukrainian food before but this restaurant popped up and I HAD to try it. First off the menu is very straight forward and the prices were very reasonable for San Francisco. We spent $75 for enough food for 3 people and we also bought a beer. I recommend going with others because the portion sizes are big and personally would have been too much for just me to eat. The cabbage rolls were so flavorful and the chicken dumplings dipped in the bone broth were incredible. I will be back next time I’m in San Francisco.
I went to Leleka with coworkers for lunch while at a conference in San Francisco. We asked for some of the most often ordered dishes. We got the Borscht, chicken dumplings, beef dumplings, and the potato and cheese dumplings. They were all well cooked and tasty. If you haven't tried Ukrainian food I would highly recommend it.
**Ukrainian Restaurant: Leleka** I liked it. Authentic Ukrainian comfort food right in the heart of San Francisco. Cool that they play Ukrainian songs, though I wish the atmosphere had a bit more of that unmistakable Ukrainian vibe. You know, the kind where simple dumplings stop being just dumplings and become *справжні вареники*. Ifykyk. Still, for a taste of home or a proper intro to Ukrainian cuisine, it’s a solid pick.
I gotta admit, I haven't had much Eastern European food, let alone Ukrainian, but I was pleasantly impressed by it. The borscht was pretty tasty and flavorful, particularly with sour cream. The beef dumplings were pretty plain but not bad. Drinks selection is limited, but they had a pretty good honey lager. The staff is quite helpful with recommendations, and the place itself is more reminiscent of a quiet cafe with a patio than a restaurant, with both indoor and outdoor seating.
I am Ukrainian and I loved this place! It is authentically and beautifully Ukrainian and is not trying to pass as a generic Eastern European restaurant, which is a big deal for me. I ordered borscht and potato dumplings and both were great and made me feel like home. Also, the place has a very nice location with beautiful decorations and modern Ukrainian music on the background. Highly recommend and hope more people will come to try and enjoy our cuisine. Thank you! Дякую!
I got chicken Karaage and ramen with hot curry and fried gyoza. The ramen and curry were great and the curry was nice and spicy and the gyoza were fresh and flavorful but I would have liked them better of they were pan fried on the bottom instead of deep fried. I would try other things here for sure so I would recommend ordering ahead of time.
Katsu curry was good, chicken was tender, curry was flavorful. I got the large karage too for $9 the flavor is good I wish they will fill it up all the way to the top since i paid for the large karage it looks like i got the small portion but in a larger container.
Had the delicious Chicken Katsu curry (medium spicy) and was oh so delicious - perfectly crispy pieces and such a flavorful curry. As of yesterday, the place doesn't offer any dining options either indoors or outdoors, so you may want to figure out a nearby park or seating quickly to consume it while it's hot!
They say it is cheap. Well that is only to SF standards because I don’t find it cheap. Food is really interesting taste wise. Staff is friendly and food prepared to order quite quickly. Location is off tourist places and surrounded by many other cafes. Inside very little place for dining. Good for take away. Has toilet inside and no wifi.
Interesting Curry Style Japanese food. Line at lunch can run out the door and across the corner. When you ask for spicy, it is SPICY not for the faint of heart. Chicken is perfectly fried
I’m a regular but lately, there has been some deterioration in food quality. I usually get the curry pork cutlet. The pork was fried to almost brown (maybe they don’t change the oil that often being so busy). Prices have really gone up so I hope they give customers a break.
This restaurant is cozy, and chill. It's easy to order you food, sit back and relax. It really is comforting Ukrainian food, and very filling too. I had the borscht and it was my favourite dish between it and the chicken dumplings. But don't get me wrong, the chicken dumplings were delicious as well! And very eye catching to boot! There is plenty of seating. You seat yourself and order at the counter.
Got a medium spicy katsu curry and was fairly spicy! So if you are unsure, err on the lower side! Food tasted good, nothing super special. Not the worst curry I've had, but also not the best. Fairly liquidly curry, not thick at all. This is also one of those pick-up only locations, so don't expect to be able to sit down and eat. You order and pick up at the window.
The vegetarian curry sauce is good. However asking about if the tofu and vegetable curry has potatoes the clerk said "I don't think so, but you can order them as an add-on." I did that but it seems from other photos potatoes are already included so I paid the extra charge for no reason. Overall it was pretty expensive for curry ($25). I don't like that it's takeout only and you can't really tell that from the photos of the food on the reviews.
Ordered a Katsu Curry for dinner via DoorDash. The curry was subtle and good. However, the katsu was flavorless and unseasoned. I loved the pickled vegetables though! I probably wouldn’t order again.
I would like to give zero star for this place. I ordered 30 minutes ago online but had to wait in line for pick up. I asked for a bag for this take out but they said I didn’t order the “bag”. I had to say every time I ordered here I was offered a bag when picked up. I was being treated differently today because I saw others pay without a “bag” while I stayed in line but they still were offered a “bag”. And the ladies gave me extremely bad attitude I wouldn’t come here again.
