I would say that the restaurant lived up to expectations and had the best pizza I've had in San Francisco so far. I would suggest you order a cheese pizza base with pesto, goat cheese and cherry tomatoes, its chefs kiss. The restaurant also offers other delicious things and are flexible with customizations.
My wife and I love Original Joe’s in North Beach! It’s an absolute staple in the neighborhood and one of the most consistent restaurants in San Francisco. The Food: • Chicken Parm: I always order this. It’s a massive, thin cut of chicken with a generous portion of cheese and delicious marinara. Get the ravioli as your side! • Seafood: My wife usually rotates between the Salmon with lemon beurre blanc or the Dungeness Crab Louie (they don’t skimp on the lump crab meat). • Dessert: Do not leave without trying the Butter Cake. It is incredibly rich, so definitely share it. The Wine (Pro Tip): The wine list here is solid, but many of the bottles are heavily marked up. We used the Sip Savvy app to scan the menu for the best value vs rating bottle aligned with our palate. It flagged the Austin Hope 1L bottle as the Best Buy—it was $98, which Sip Savvy showed was one of the lowest markups on the menu for that quality. It paired perfectly with the Italian food. If you’re a wine person, definitely try the app here. It takes the guesswork out of finding great bottles without overpaying!
Sat in the lounge at opening. No need for reservations! Got an amazing prime rib and whiskey. Not the cheapest but a great time on beautiful North Beach!
My experience was awesome! If you enjoy the Italian Authencity. This is the place for you! 5 star All the way around for me. Beginning from the hostess to the waiter to the food runner.. And WaLa! The food (kissing my finger tip) I had Chicken Parmigiana!! Just excellent!!
An absolute North Beach classic! I’ve visited many times for both brunch and dinner. Dinner reservations are recommended, especially for larger parties, though the bar seats are usually available without one. The spicy rigatoni is hands down my favorite: so good! Brunch is also fantastic with big portions. The space is charming with cozy booths and a beautiful holiday setup during the holiday season. Cocktails in the back area are excellent, and service is always top-notch.
We had our post-ceremony wedding luncheon at Joe's at the beginning of December and couldn't be happier with how it went. They were incredibly accommodating during the entire planning and booking process leading up to the big day. The day of, service was immaculate and the food was incredible. All of our guests were raving afterwards about how great the luncheon was. I strongly recommend Original Joe's for private dining events.
10/10 meal and experience. At a super busy time (6:45 ish) we were seated immediately at the counter, which I’d highly recommend. Gives you an appreciation for how hardworking and skilled the cooks are. The food was immaculate. We got shrimp cocktail, the Prime Rib (rivals House of Prime Rib), and the spaghetti with meatballs. Everything was delicious. It’s loud but the ambiance is part of the experience. Such a cool, classic old school dining experience.
Delicious old school North Beach restaurant with great service. The spicy rigatoni and grilled prawns were perfectly cooked and the sauce was delicious and mildly spicy. For dessert the warm butter cake with ice cream smelled amazing, with a hint of nostalgia. Take a look at the wall of family photos and celebrities. Reserve your table at least one month in advance, this place is always busy. There is a bar area for walk-ins, but people do get turned away on very busy nights.
Original Joe's offers a truly classic San Francisco dining experience, the moment you step inside, the timeless atmosphere, complete with plush red booths and dark wood paneling, sets the perfect mood. The food quality is exceptional across the board: the grilled steak and rack of lamb were both cooked to perfection and beautifully presented, while the hearty Italian dishes, like the rich ravioli and comforting spaghetti with meat sauce, were satisfying classics. We started with delicious, crisp fried calamari and finished the night with a festive birthday dessert, capping off a meal where the service was consistently prompt, professional, and attentive. Original Joe's flawlessly delivers on high-quality ingredients, excellent service and a fantastic, old-school atmosphere.

AN ABSOLUTE MUST FOR ANY REAL FOODIE. Loud, proud and oh so good, I was a little intimidated (and maybe a little deflated) sitting at the counter. But I went with it and how happy I am that we did. No food photos, we were too busy having the best italian food we’ve ever purchased. It’s the last night of our 4 week honeymoon, we’ve eaten a lot of food! And this was hands down just the best. A bottle of wine recommended by our wonderful server, the arancini, farfalle pasta (OMG - drool), the veal piccante and a side of ravioli. We managed to squeeze in tiramisu. It was all to die for. But again, that farfalle was the best tasting sauce. What impressed us both most was the kitchen staff we watched for nearly an entire 3 hours. The volumes of respect in that kitchen is INSANE!! Every single person worked their butts off, non-stop. It’s a tight space and every one has a write to play and every single person was respected for that role. So glad we got to see the smiles and a bit of a joke amongst all the staff when the rush eased a little. We’re so so glad we stumbled across you guys and were so glad we sat at the counter where all the legends belong! My partners only words - “this place is special” Thank you thank you!
Definitely one of the best places in San Francisco ❤️ You need to make a reservation, but it’s totally worth it. We had the prime rib, fried calamari, and ravioli, all were delicious. They also have veal Milanese, which, as an Argentine, I’ll definitely be back to try! The service was good too.
The food was very good, the service was top-notch and it is an extremely clean eating environment, even the baththrooms were spotless. I gave a four for the atmosphere only because the place can be very loud at times and it could ruin an intimate setting. We had the veal milanese (the veal milanese wasn't on the lunch menu, but they still made it upon request), with a side of meat ravioli and the second dish was spaghetti and meatballs. When we are in San Francisco agian, we will definitely go back.
Had a fabulous time here!!! Nested within the Little Italy neighborhood, this restaurant is popular!!! We got there around 8pm hoping we’d be able to snag an open seating as the weight was 1 hour & 45 minutes to get seated. If you want to go here, get there early to write your name in. Or if you plan ahead (like I don’t) then use open table and get your name on there a week or couple days in advance. The burger was fabulous!! Top 3 burgers I’ve had in my lifetime. It’s a stovetop juicy burger with a crunchy chewy sourdough bun. Definitely an Italian American take on a butter burger. We were debating between pasta and this burger and one of the locals said it was best burger in the city-(think his name was Blair) and I agree!! Worth the wait after a long day of walking around SF! My friend and I decided to just stalk the “open seating” and the servers do their best job to make everything equitable. Of course, some people are really quick and get to a table (it’s very vulture like lol) but the server had noted we were waiting and she eventually sewed us into our table! Don’t bank on that though-just come prepared to wait. Super worth it though
We had such a pleasant lunch here on a Friday early afternoon. We did make a reservation, but it was not very busy at all. The service was great, our waiter was very attentive and made the meal all the more pleasant. The ambiance was nice too. Our food was amazing, I would highly recommend the spicy rigatoni.
We came to Original Joe’s for my birthday, and I’m so glad we did! The food was absolutely delicious, and the service was top notch. It made the celebration extra special. This will definitely be one of my go-to favorite restaurants in San Francisco!

We sat in the bar area since it was all booked up with reservations on a Wednesday (I think because of the salesforce conference that was going on). I got the spicy rigatoni with meatballs and my partner got the chicken picatta. They were both good!
The food stole the show for us. The meatballs, filet mignon, and spicy rigatoni were absolute must haves. Would not recommend the crab cakes. Wish we got dessert but overall very good place to eat if you have the time.
We went to Original Joe’s in Italian Town to celebrate our marriage day with family and friends — about 11 or 12 of us in total. We didn’t have a reservation, but the staff were accommodating. While waiting for a table, we enjoyed a bottle of champagne at the bar, which was a nice start to the evening. After a short wait, we got seated outside. The atmosphere was great, and everyone had a good time. The food and wine were both excellent, and my friends and my wife really liked the overall experience. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of a small moment that made me uncomfortable — when I politely asked the person pouring water if he could turn down the heater a little (it was very hot behind me), he reacted in a way that made me hesitant to ask again. Apart from that, our server was wonderful and very professional. We also ordered the pork chop, which came a bit undercooked inside. We didn’t realize we needed to ask for it to be well done. We mentioned it to the server but didn’t send it back since we were already full. I also noticed one hair in one of the dishes, but I understand it’s a busy restaurant and things happen. Overall, it was a memorable evening for all of us. The food, the energy, and the place itself are great — just a few small details that could be improved. Still, I’d definitely recommend this restaurant for special occasions or celebrations.

I loved this place the 1st 3 or 4 times I went so I recommended my son on having his Birthday here. He was excited and so was I. We had a party of 6. 4 of us showed up at the same time, the other 2 we had to wait for. We were informed that we had to leave by 8, we arrived at 6pm. That is reasonable but I had never in all my experiences had a time limit on my restaurants whether it be Denny's or House of Prime Rib. I figured maybe because it was a fairly larger party than maybe a typical party of 2 or even 4. Either way we complied and ordered. The server was fairly nice but seemed bothered, maybe something personal happened in her life or earlier that day. It didn't seem personal towards us but she was definitely not happy. It was my son's Birthday so I informed the waitress so they could bring something after for him and also I was hoping a change in her demeanor. She stayed the same but like I said I don't think it was us necessarily us. The food was pretty good, not how I remember and my lasagna and my son's filet mignon was pretty salty. I don't know why, maybe because it was a busy Friday night. Everytime I have went it's been pretty busy though and the food was great. I'm just glad all my other experiences were much better here and I will remember and cherish those. I just felt bad for my son not loving it as much and having my same experiences. Maybe that's me just being a father. He smiled and it didn't seem to bother. I asked the waitress if we didn't finish by 8 and wanted dessert could we move to different table? She said let's just try to finish LoL I said how about worst case scenario? She said let's just try and finish again. Towards 7:30 my son said he had to got to the bathroom, I said go then, he was like well it's #2 and I don't want to not have time to eat. I said don't worry, he stayed seated even I asked him 2 more times to just go and not to worry. Our bill was $475. We weren't there just lollygagging and or spending $75 either way we shouldn't have been rushed. I feel like it was unprofessional and just overall not the experience I expected from here, especially even after I informed them it was my son's Birthday. Either way I like the place and would still recommend but this was just some insight to what happened that night. I hope maybe a few people read this on the staff and change their protocol for parties with with 6 people or whatever. I just felt I had to share this.
If you’re coming here for their “famous” burger, prepare to be humbled. Instagram lied to me. The burger is so dry it deserves its own drought warning. Absolutely get cheese without it, you’ll be chewing for 3 days. Nothing special, nowhere near worth the hype.
