Opinions de Ryoko's San Francisco
Some of the best Japanese dishes I've had in SF. And the vibe has such an old world Japan feel. I've saved it in my favs for sure!
One of the best, if not the best, sushi bars I've been to in San Francisco in the twenty years I've been staying here. Itamae-san Atsushi was very skilled and quick at making sushi, as well and friendly and charasmatic. I came back a second night with a friend and the service was just as good, if not better with the pre-existing rapport from the night prior. Even their security guard Vern was a delight to talk with. I highly recommend trying the o-toro and ika ki zuke.
Incredible sushi. It’s a place you come and have a few sapporos with friends and eat simple, but incredibly tasty sushi, while the music bumps. Awesome spot. My favorite sushi place in the city.
My daughter and I went Sunday night at 9pm as it was only one of a handful of restaurants open at the time around our hotel. Great restaurant only a short 6min walk from the Westin St Frances Hotel. Ordered two sushi rolls, spicy garlic edamame, and a tempura basket. Restaurant was cozy but not small. Sushi was fresh. Staff were friendly and knowledgable. Service was spot on. Will return.
This place is ridiculously good. Great service in a nightclub type of environment. Their Spicy Golden Gate and Jumping Salmon rolls are mouthfuls of flavor 😋 And I loved the cocktail I recently had there. I believe the drink was called Samurai Sunset.
I've read that Royko's was a hole-in-the-wall Japanese bar with great vibes and sushi. Missing izakaya vibes in Japan, I had to stop by, and I did not regret it. Because Ryoko's was just that. Small, cozy, dark, lively. Great food and drinks. The sushi was top notch. The beers were good. And I had a few other items on the menu like the Shoyu Ramen and Chicken Teriyaki. All pretty good. I loved Ryoko's. The vibe was definitely reminiscent of izakayas in Japan. Good service. Id say come here for the vibes, the drinks, and the sushi! The sushi was more on the pricey side (around $12 - 15 for 2 nigiris). However, it was so good I couldnt stop ordering for more 😅.
Super cool and happening Japanese Sushi and Sashimi restaurant with an amazing original decoration, a large menu of super high quality seafood, a DJ who blends the right atmosphere and a truly friendly service team. Loved the O Toro, awesome real crab California roll, excellent sashimi platter and really good spicy scallop roll. The place is a real experience!!
I had a great time dinning in at this restaurant . The food was great, I got 3 rolls (Pokemon roll, Tiger roll & California roll). I really enjoyed the Pokemon roll. It was delicious. I enjoyed the raw salmon and mango; great combination. I had the Sakura cocktail and it was amazing. I also had a draft Sapporo while l enjoyed the music. The staff was very friendly and attentive. They made sure I was having a good time while I enjoyed my food. There was this lady who was attentive to my service; I loved her. She’s such a sweetheart! Would recommend this place to people that enjoy sushi! Did I also mention that you get to see your sushi being made in front of you? That was really cool.
Maybe I am just hitting the lottery or SF is really that good with food choices. This place the ambiance is amazing with the piano sitting in the middle. Service is impeccable and the sushi is amazing. Just be prepared for massive lines and long waits. But if you eat during senior citizen hours like me.... It's fine
This is one of the best restaurants I visited in SF. There was a line to get it, but it's worth it. My sushi was simple but very fresh, and the absolute best tempura shrimp—not exaggerated. The atmosphere is rather loud with club music, which was kind of odd at first, but I ended up looking it quite a bit. My servers were nice, and above all, fast with everything. I sat at the bar and had fun watching the two chefs make food for the whole restaurant. Pro tip: try the ice cream mochi...so yummy.
This place's decor options confuse me. It has dark wooden paneling, but also cement shiny blue walls. There's mirrors from the 70s, but also an Irish looking bar. The tables and chairs seem like they're from the standard Chinese restaurant, but the ceiling fans are British? Is it a dive Japanese bar? We went here after the show at 1130pm, so we didn't have high expectations. My shoyu ramen was one level above $3 packet ramen, but not worth $19. Beers were good. I guess I'd come here for that late night cap. People seemed friendly enough.
Ryoko’s is fun and unassuming spot for some delicious sushi. The basement restaurant vibes are in full swing for this underground sushi joint. The fish is served in generous portions, as well as the rolls. The Hot Tuna and the Crunchy Crab are some of my favorites here. Their nigiri may not be as nice looking, but the flavors and freshness transcend its looks with some thick pieces of fish. The staff here are attentive and quick service. It may be busy, it may be slow sometimes, but Ryoko’s is a great place to fill your belly with sushi
Food: 3.5/5 Service: 4/5 Ambiance: 3.5/5 Overall: A solid option for downtown. The extended review... Food: Chicken Karaage - 3/5 - Got a few pieces. Taste was standard fare. Caterpillar Roll - 3.5/5 - Tasty rolls with cucumber, eel, and avocado. Standard fare. Service: 4/5 - Friendly and attentive service. Ambiance: 3.5/5 - It's an interesting spot. You go down to a basement level and there is sometimes someone at the piano.
Really fresh and tasty sushi, and good value too. The soft shell crab and the octopus appetisers were so good I’d say they’re a must. We tried a few rolls and they were all amazing, probably my favourite was the salmon skin one. Dessert was interesting, but too sweet for me. Service was good and fairly quick. The music was too loud and felt too party-like for a sushi dinner.
This place is a really cool spot for good food and better vibes! It’s pretty hidden being that it is underground and has a dj at dinner playing lots of fun music. The food took a little while to come because they were really busy, but it was definitely worth the wait! Everything has such a rich taste and great combination of flavors. You can tell the food is really fresh here and they give proper portions. Highly recommend for a fun night out with drinks and food!
Sushi was very average. Service was fine except the waitress kept asking anyone at the bar if they were done soon after they finished eating, even when there was no line/wait. Don’t understand the high ratings given the standard of food & service.
Cool atmosphere and a unique vibe, but the sushi itself was pretty average. We ordered a variety, and the only one we really enjoyed was the soy wrap. The special hot sake with lemon sounded fun, but the flavor didn’t stand out either. On the plus side, the service was friendly and attentive. Overall, not bad, but definitely not a top sushi pick in SF.
I've never seen a bouncer at a restaurant, ever. If you come here you will see one though, very strange. Very loud dance music playing making conversation difficult. Service was unorganized and not good. Food was fine, very average.
Anniversary Dinner with my wife, food was ok and good flavour. However the service was abysmal. They took our order promptly, brought the food, never came back to ask if we wanted more drinks, did not bring extra sauce my wife requested, and the only time the server returned was to present the bill before we even finished eating. Message received, did not feel welcome at all and we won’t be going back.
