My husband and I came to San Francisco to see his family and we had a “wonderful “ dinner here. Cannot begin to say the name of every special meal but ALL was delicious. Sharing pics. If you come to San Francisco, you need to find this place for authentic Italian cuisine.

It's a great cozy Italian atmoshere but with limited seating. We arrived about 6 pm on a weekday, without reservation, and there was ample seating. By the time we finished (7-ish) there were people waiting for seats. The food was great and prices very reasonable. I recommend the house wine if you don't want authentic Italian wines. A very cozy atmosphere. Of course parking can be a pain (street parking in little Italy of SF) but if you don't know this ahead of time, parking generally sucks anywhere in San Francisco.

The Caprese is out of this world. I love the addition of red onion. The tomatoes and mozzarella are perfection. The tortellini is so good. We ate every bite. Pesto, white sauce, can’t go wrong. The atmosphere can’t be beat. We sat next to a signed phot of Frank Sinatra. Because of course he loved this place. We will be back!

First time here and it was all that I expected from reading the story on the website. The food was so good, and the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Thanks Rachel for being so attentive and funny (we were keeping up with the football game and the Rams won...boo!) The beautiful wedding picture of the owner's parents on the wall, Mark who greeted us like we were family and gave us a hug on the way out and said hope to see you again soon. What a great place and experience. Too bad I don't live too close or I would definitely be there having a cocktail at the bar and enjoying dinner at least a few times a week. Don't worry we'll be back soon! ❤️

Straight out of central casting! Old school and absolutely un apologetically old school family Italian food! These beautiful people have been making Italian food the old school way for over a hundred years! Get the lasagna, get the house salad..go home happy. The lasagna was rich in cheese, the marinara rich and the ricotta they I used is spectacular. My wife had the veal parm and it was beautiful. Trust Alex when she makes a recommendation! She’s served in most of the restaurants in the area before landing at SodinoI’s and knows the menu well!

If you like dark places to enjoy your meal- go! If you like great service- go! If you’re into gnocchi that’s like mamas-go! From start to finish all and all a great meal at a great value. And a very generous bartender/server. Thank you!

One of the last best authentic North Beach experiences, great Italian heritage and atmosphere all around, amazing interior, and super awesome service in every corner. Don't change a thing, please. You’ll feel like your Nonna smuggled you into 1950s Little Italy in a time-machine disguised as a spaghetti bowl! The building housing was probably constructed in 1910, and feels like the interior décor has been largely unchanged since the 1950s, complete with original signage from its prior incarnation, making it a living time-capsule of North Beach’s Italian-American dining scene.

We had to visit because its No reservations, Decafe or desert. But its yes on everything else. Only problem is the tables are too small for the food that is presented. Bring friends and share.

A lovely divey in all the best ways, old school Italian spot. Full of regulars, great food & the staff is so nice. We come often - I know there are so many Italian options in North Beach, but Sodini’s is among the best. Their house salad is one of the best I’ve ever had, and the minestrone is a little thick which makes it great for bread dipping. We started with a salad, which even split between the two of us was huge. Then the Lobster ravioli and the chicken Sodini. If they have the lobster ravioli, get them and thank me later. My favorite in the city. Portions are big - so come hungry or plan to share!

Solid spot! Extremely generous portions that will definitely leave you full, and very well made food! Came in on a Friday and had a 20 minute wait for 2 people, which is not bad by SF standards. Staff is extremely friendly! FYI no desserts served here but there's plenty of late night dessert spots in the area

I highly recommend this restaurant for excellent classic Italian dishes in a cozy dining room in North Beach. The service is excellent. We loved the Gnochi Gorgonzola, chicken picatta, seafood linguine, and tortellini carbonara. They have a good selection of Italian wines. We also enjoyed caprese and wonderful bread.

I came here because a friend recommended me their gnocchi. Oh my gosh, it was so good. We also got the seafood pasta. The portion was very big for both plates. The server were very friendly and serve as well. They don’t serve any dessert and we luckily brought our own cake. They provide a fork to us. The environment is full of special decorations from the owner, and I love that they put a wedding picture of the owner in the restaurant. I will definitely come back again and try more food.

Dinner was fantastic. We walk in and Mark greeted us finds out what we’re looking for and then makes our evening special. We sat at the bar and Casey mixed us some cocktails and we chatted with the regulars and the staff. Then Mark sat us at the intimate Window table for two. They have a good wine by the glass list and they also have an inexpensive house red and white. Dinner was amazing. And affordable.

LOVED this place! Immediately greeted at the door and assured us we were welcome. We asked what time they closed because we didn’t want to be ‘those people’ at the last minute. They stay open until 9:30 and it was about 8:15. The waitress came right over and helped us with our decision. I asked for guidance as I do like to know what a staff might recommend. I ordered the Seafood Fettuccine and my wife got the Gnocchi Pesto. This all happened in under 5 minutes. We weren’t in a rush, but after our experience next door, (see other review for other Italian place) this was a nice change. Our food came out and was perfect in presentation and flavor. It was excellent! Thank you Sodini’s for making our dinner great! Great service and atmosphere! We like when there are no TVs and we have a favorite place in Texas that is very similar to this type of atmosphere. Brat pack music playing in the background. Low lighting, etc. There is a reason they have been around since 1906. Tried and true. Great job!

The gnocchi…. Oh my gosh is it amazing. The texture and sauces are outstanding. We also had the cannelloni which is so hard to find one that is delicious and this was bite after bite of delicious flavors. Rachel makes the food even better with her wit and charm, of possible ask to be sat with her because she makes the meal better. We also had a house salad and the dressing is a bit creamy and the toppings in the salad include beans and mushrooms which are such a bonus. I have to come back next time I’m in town. Simply delicious and with Rachel, this is a wow! Btw… I saw someone eating the polenta as an app and I have to try it next time Looks fabulous!

Home. That is how I would describe Sodini's. We were seated quickly, the bread and water arrived shortly thereafter. We scrambled to make our decisions and the waitress sensed our rush. She then sat down with us and began to talk with us about why we were there and our timing. Then said, no need to rush, the table is yours. Let's order some drinks and then we will work on dinner!!! Holy smokes, did that just happen?! Her recommendations were fantastic, the service was impeccable and the overall evening was a smashing success! Did I already say the food was amazing?!!! We were there on July 4th with our 2 daughters. Can't wait to go back. Make sure you have the tortellini carbonara, the Veal and an Elizabeth Taylor (cocktail). Absolutely incredible!!!!

Loved this place! A hidden gem in Little Italy. Walking in you feel like this is an old school Italian home. Family photos on the wall, locals at the bar, and an open kitchen for you to watch. I can’t even tell you the last time I saw a restaurant staff laughing with each other and be so attentive with their guests. The food was amazing. I had the linguine with clams. It was creamier than I was expecting and that was not a bad thing. The dish was full of clams and flavor! My wife had meatballs and minestrone soup. Both were very uniquely homestyle. I wasn’t a fan of the meatballs but everyone else loved them. The garlic cheesy bread was fabulous and the service was superb. Would definitely go back if for nothing else but the vibe or family!

Vibes here are wonderful. They’ve mastered the atmosphere, even in the super busy time, which is when we were there. If you want to fully enjoy it, don’t go on a Saturday night- we waited for an hour. They comped us an appetizer which was lovely. The minestrone soup is to DIE FOR. Get the soup and a drink and nothing else. Chicken parm was a little rubbery and watery, and the pizza was really cheesy and greasy. Pictures aren’t great because of the red lighting. They put us in the cool triangular booth with red lights! Yay!

An older Italian place. Service was good. Wine was overpriced. The bruschetta was ok. My wife liked her Veal Picatta but my lasagna was overcooked with too much cheese.

We had amazing Service here. My spaghetti and meatballs was good. As as the salad. People at my table, had the Jeannine and clamps that they said was excellent. Our server went out of her way to make us feel comfortable, even though we had a two-year-old at the table. They have a lovely red wine in carafe’s for a good price. Not a bad place to check out. They have been around for years.

Food was quite disappointing. Steak was lacking seasoning and too charred. It tasted bland and burnt. Pasta could have used more sauce. Soup and salad were nice. Cool vibe overall, wish the food was better!

Last time I’m trusting reviews- the place was cute but the food was definitely not what I was expecting. More casual Italian-American if anything. Ordered the di Lucca pizza and it was basically a step over Pizza Hut. The seafood pasta was in a heavy cream sauce and the seafood was a bit overcooked. Would not recommend this place for authentic Italian food as there are many other options available. Extra points for the ambience though.

Sodini’s boasts a charming old-school Italian ambiance that initially sets a pleasant tone for the evening. However, my experience was mixed, and I didn’t quite receive the dining experience I had anticipated. I asked for a dish recommendation, and based on the waiter’s suggestion, I ordered “the most popular dish.” Unfortunately, it turned out to be just okay, lacking the flavor and excitement I had hoped for. To make matters worse, the waiter never returned to inquire how the dish was. The bread served at the start of the meal was also disappointing—cold and hard, lacking the warmth and freshness one expects at an Italian restaurant. As we were leaving, an awkward moment occurred when the bartender yelled at my husband, saying, “We’re closed.” My husband replied, “We just ate here; we’re leaving. I’m waiting for my wife who’s using the bathroom.” This interaction felt unprofessional and added to our dissatisfaction. Another notable aspect was the open-concept kitchen, which allowed us to see the kitchen staff. I noticed them casually sipping from wine bottles, which detracted from the overall dining experience. When it came time to settle the bill, I requested an itemized receipt. Unfortunately, what I received was nearly illegible, resembling chicken scratch rather than a clear breakdown of charges. To add to the confusion, I noticed an unexpected charge on my bill. When I inquired about it, the staff explained that the credit card machine had added a percentage, which felt a bit off. Overall, while the atmosphere was enjoyable, the service, food quality, and professionalism did not live up to the expectations set by the setting. I would recommend considering other options if you're seeking a truly satisfying Italian dining experience, as this place feels more like a tourist trap than a genuine Italian restaurant.

We must have gone there on an off night, we sat at the bar, and the barman couldn't have been more miserable and less bothered if he tried. We ordered a house salad to start and that was ok, I'd say salad dressing forward, but not bad. But the veal parmigiana was quite possibly the worst I've ever had! Not only was it overcooked so tough as an old boot, but the tomato sauce on the pasta tasted like it had come out of a jar, the only thing that was ok was the pasta, which is hard to get wrong. We didnt get offered parmesan cheese which might have helped the pasta sauce some. We couldn't get out of there quick enough. Hopefully youll have better luck than us!

Evette

You're paying for the Instagram backdrop, not the food. The calamari, angel hair, gnocchi, and pizza were all forgettable—bland, basic, nothing you couldn't make better at home. The calamari was surprisingly super tough and flavorless! The sauce on the linguini (north beach style) was so disappointing; it had maybe 2 sun dried tomatoes in it. For these prices, I expected homemade quality. This wasn't it. Golden Boy is right down the street. Go there instead.
