What a treasure! We were greated by Don Rodrigo outside telling us about his Happy Hours 11-5! We were waiting for a room & enjoyed a cold beer. Don Rodrigo is the treasure, very dapper with a great personality. We enjoyed it so much we return for dinner the same night. The Staff is very engaging & pleasant. You feel like you are at their home. We enjoyed the Sea Bass & a very large garden salad. The table next to us had the Fettuccine Alfredo made at their table. What an experience. My friend and I were debating on where to get dinner on a Tuesday night and luckily we got to meet the BEST of the best Alvaro, he treated us like family and although we were the only people in the restaurant, we still had a magical experience!! Tableside guacamole, I had the Verde chicken enchiladas and my friend had the catch of the day and we were in heaven. Casa Don Rodrigo is set back a little bit with a smaller front, but a much bigger, better authentic Mexican experience inside. Nice bar in front with excellent cadillac margaritas and indoor air conditioned seating, and so much more outback. The tableside guacamole, and all of the dishes we ate are amazing!

We had a wonderful meal. They squeezed us in on one of their busiest nights “ Art Walk”. We both ordered the catch of the day. The fish was cooked perfectly, crispy skin and melt in your mouth meat. I comes with a choice of 3 different sauces, cilantro, pepper or garlic butter. We chose cilantro for one and the pepper sauce for the other. Both were delicious. I was in heaven as the fish come on a bed of delicious vegetables, topping the rice. We accompanied our meal with a glass of wine. I could not have asked for more. There was live music and the ambiance was perfect. The restaurant has tables that are well spaced so it is intimate and warm in a courtyard setting. Thank you for squeezing us in having no reservations. Would highly recommend stopping in or making reservations!❤️

What a great place. It feels full of history with plenty on the walls to look at. We only had mango drinks, but we'd go back a hundred more times. Definitely order the mango margarita on the rocks. Real chunks of delicious mango and a tajin finish make it absolutely superb!

Me and my gf stumbled across this place during the day after doing some shopping at the local plaza. Decided to stop in for a drink and the drinks did not disappoint. The bartenders and server were friendly and even gave us some samples of their aged cheeses. We looked at their menu and decided we needed to come back for dinner and I’m definitely glad we did. Everything we had was so delicious!!! Would definitely go back!!!

Casa Don Rodrigo has excellent service, great atmosphere and great dishes. This iconic restaurant has history. The original owner was the first mayor of San Jose. The current owner makes their own cheese. Their dishes also are a great value as they are reasonably priced, as well as creative and delicious.

Our visit here was one of the highlights of our trip! My friends and I first saw the restaurant when we were wandering around the main street during the day in San Jose Del Cabo. I glanced inside, and it was such a beautiful garden setting that I couldn’t resist going inside to take pictures. We told ourselves that we would return for dinner if we got the chance. On Wednesday evening, we decided to Uber from our resort to the restaurant. Our Uber driver happened to be friends with the head waiter, Benny. Benny greeted us at the door of our Uber and escorted us in. We were treated like royalty with attentive service, delicious food and drink, and wonderful music in a gorgeous setting. We were bewildered that we nearly had the restaurant to ourselves, although a couple came in a bit later, and there were a few people at the bar in front. I think this was because the popular nights would be on Thursdays (because of the Artwalk) and the weekend. This place is truly a gem, and when I make it back to San Jose Del Cabo, this will be on the list to visit again, for sure!

We were walking back to the resort from the art festival and were hungry We had looked up this restaurant before but didn't think that they would have availability but on the way home we stopped by and asked They had room for two we were immediately seated at a little table right in front of the band that was playing which was awesome. Our young server was very attentive, We were greeted with kindness we got the bone marrow appetizer It was absolutely amazing, I ended up getting the Caesar salad with chicken and my husband got the tortilla soup It was all very very good and we ended up getting the pumpkin tamale for dessert I didn't know what to expect and it was absolutely amazing Definitely check this place out if you're in San Jose del Cabo. I'm almost certain that the owner and his family were among the guests that evening after the band was done playing I'm going to assume the gentleman was the owner and he got up and sang some pearl jam for us which was pretty awesome.

Visited Cabo from Houston this past week and this cuuuute little 4th generation restaurant sealed the deal for us! It’s our spot when we visit Cabo! We absolutely loooved the culture here! If you’re looking for authentic food and amazing people this is your spot! It was so good for lunch we decided to come back for dinner the next night and I’m so glad we did because there was a live music band! It was amazing!! You can’t go wrong with anything on the menu but the pasta was the best I’ve ever had!!!

Excelente lugar para comer. Los quesos muy ricos y orgánicos, así como los vegetales. Recomiendo todos los platillos, muy buen sabor y la porción me parece bien. Charming Mexicana style resto. Service was great although for a time we were the only ones there. Food tasted home made, was abundant and well presented. The atmosphere was in keeping with the mexicana style although the tables could have been in better condition. The glass tops offset the defects. Es un buen lugar, platillos sencillos pero con muy buen sabor. La arquitectura del lugar es simplemente perfecta. Lo malo y la razón de tener solo 3 estrellas, es que esta diseñado unicamente para extranjeros pues todo absolutamente todo esta escrito únicamente en inglés.

Solo pasamos por un trago a media tarde, el lugar se encontraba prácticamente vacío a las 5 pm, quizás tenga mejor ambiente en la noche aprovechamos la hora feliz y fueron 180 mxn por 2 margaritas, que no tenían el frappé que se requiere en el hielo , parecían más unas palomas, no regresaría, hay muchas más opciones alrededor.

The last time we were at Casa Don Rodrigo, they had Totoaba, a local Sea of Cortez fish available only in Mexico. We ordered the fish on the waiter's recommendation and watched it being cooked on a small grill not far from our table. The fish was excellent, and we wish we could’ve found more. So, flash forward, we returned to Casa Don Rodrigo on our next trip to San Jose del Cabo, looking for Totoaba. Unfortunately, they did not have any, but we decided to eat there as it has a nice ambience and our prior experience had been good. Not so much this time. The tortilla soup we ordered was lukewarm and lacked significant flavor. My wife ordered the fettuccine Alfredo, mainly because the menu said they would prepare it tableside, which she thought would be interesting. That did not occur. Rather, they brought a plate of pasta with some Alfredo sauce to the table. Meanwhile, I ordered the special of the day, enchiladas suizas. We both found our food to be terrible, both in taste and smell. We’re not sure what it was - we think it was the cheese used on both that apparently had become rancid - but whatever it was, neither of us could take more than a couple of bites of the food before pushing it away in disgust. One of the staff stopped by and asked us if we were enjoying our food, and we told him honestly, no. He walked away. Our waiter stopped by, and we told him the same thing. We asked him to bring us the bill, and we would pay, but we would not eat the food. He was very gracious and said we should not have to pay for food we found unsatisfactory. He brought us a bill for the bottled water we had already consumed, and deleted the rest. He was very gracious and apologetic, and he expressed hope that we would return another time, given our prior good experience. He was the saving grace in this review, so we decided to combine the two experiences, one excellent and one poor, in this review.

Le pondría cero si se pudiera, fui el lunes a comer con mis amigas y el lugar está muy bonito, pero el servicio es pésimo, la comida también y a parte te quieren cobrar una tarifa extra. El mesero con su mala cara nos tomó la órden y le preguntábamos cosas del menú y nos contestaba de muy mala manera, yo pedí los tacos de arrachera y una amiga unas como tostadas de atún.. cuando nos trajeron la comida, mis 3 tacos eran de lechuga.. tenían 1 pedazo mini de arrachera cada taco y el atún de mi amiga no se veía nada fresco y sabía medio mal, por lo que le dije al mesero y no me hizo caso, y estaba otro joven que creo era el encargado y hasta que le dije dos veces fue cuando ya fue a "verificar" con la cocina y volvió para decirme que así eran los platillos, que si quería elegir algo más por lo que le pedí que me retirara el plato y el de mi amiga sin pedir nada más, mi otra amiga si se comió sus tacos pero pidió salsa que nunca se la trajeron... Pésima actitud y servicio del mesero y encargado.. Cuando pedimos la cuenta obviamente no nos cobraron los platillos que devolvimos pero venía el total de lo que consumimos más una cantidad, por lo que le pregunté al mesero que que era eso y se puso nervioso y me dijo creo es el IVA y le dije que como me iba a cobrar IVA si los precios ya lo incluyen y no coincidía la cantidad correspondiente entonces se fue a verificarlo y volvió con esa parte de la cuenta tachada y me dijo que había habido un error que el total era lo que habíamos consumido y nada más. Qué lástima que un lugar tan bonito cuente con gente que no le gusta su trabajo y se aprovechen de extranjeros que no saben ni que y seguro les terminan pagando los cargos extras más a parte propina.. que triste que tanto mexicanos como extranjeros nos llevemos ese mal sabor de boca con este tipo de gente aprovechada en vez de salir encantados de un lugar bonito y con gente amable. Don't go there!! Check your bill and food.

Unauthentic and totally overpriced food. I ordered Chicken Mole which arrived after 5 minutes. Meat was sliced and medium warm. My colleagues ordered the cheese pasta which is nothing special but the preparation beneath the table which is celebrated like a big event. The service was ok eventhoug unauthentic. The waiter told us at the table that he would like the tip in cash because the owner is not a nice person in his view. I had to decline a tip 5 times until I realised that I’m not willing to tip any amount. If your not into tourist traps I cannot recommend this restaurant.

On Aug. 11, 2025, we came for a quick bite before our shuttle came for the airport. The service was okay but the shrimp tacos we got were bland and dry even though we added the sauce that came with them. We never thought you could get a bad taco in MX, but we did. The worst part was the pressure from the server for a cash tip. It's a tourist trap. Do not waste your time or money here.

Was here back in September food was so so. Mango Margarita the ice or the food gave me stomach problems needed to be on antibiotics when I got home to recover. Don't bother with this restaurant. You have been warned!
